Prologue
I let out a sigh as I walked into a large open space of a room. In the middle was a box made out of dark grey metal. This box was roughly the size of a small studio apartment which goes to show how big the main room was.
"Can you go check to see if there are issues with the wires," a voice crackled over the room's speakers system.
Do I look like a damn electrician? The damn ad that you just needed someone with basic skills? You know an extra hand to handle the mundane shit. Damn kids.
I just grunted and entered the 'box'.
Kids, I say that but I'm not that much older than them. Granted I'm older than the average college student but not that much older. I haven't hit thirty yet.
Still doesn't make it easier to work under them, especially when they don't know what they are doing, but I need the money. It isn't cheap creating a studio after all. From the equipment and soundproofing materials, it's pretty expensive. Especially for one who graduated and is working on bachelor number two.
"Hey old man, can you hurry up?"
"I'm only twenty-nine!" I yelled back before I muttered, "Fucking runts."
I began to walk around the interior of the box and check the walls for any exposed wires. Since they weren't specific on what they wanted me to check I'll do the basics before reporting back and see what they really wanted me to do.
That'll make them squirm a bit.
If it wasn't for the money and the fact that they were running an interesting experiment I would just walk out.
I turned my head to the center of the room where there was a device that I couldn't even fathom. Wires, metal, and pipes crisscrossed all over the place. In fact, it looked like a hot mess. With a look around the room and not a single wire out. I guess they wanted me to check the machine?
No, why would they send me to check that monstrosity? I'm not a scientist. I know nothing about dark energy or whether it could be captured or conducted through any kind of metal. Either way, I went up to the machine and gave it a once over, with my hands quickly shoved into my pockets. Nothing seemed out of place.
I wonder if this is what they were going to use to generate dark energy, but how?
Okay, I lied, I know a little about dark energy. Both the Mass Effect version and real-life variation. Not the levels of the squints that I'm working for but enough to know that it shouldn't be possible to harness. But eh, I could be wrong.
My glint caught my eye and I looked to see that a wire was not only exposed but pulled out. Without thinking I reached down to move the wire to see if it was supposed to go anywhere. I got a zap for my effort.
"Fucken shit!" I yelled in pain as I snatched my hand back.
In the process of retrieving my hand, I bumped into the machine.
A high pitch whine picked up and everything began to flash blue. Electricity crackled over the device as a dark sphere began to form. A sphere where nothing existed.
Not even light.
A black hole.
"Fuck," I muttered.
Red lights began to flash as a screeching sound screamed inside the room. I turned around and saw that the door was slowly closing. With a burst of energy, I ran to the door to escape the room before it was too late, but I was too slow.
As the door closed it snuffed out all hope for me and my legs collapsed just as I reached the door.
Is this it?
Is this how I die?
This...this is BULLSHIT! I finally found my purpose in life and this shit happens! FUCK THAT!
With my teeth clenched I let out a roar of defiance as I straightened up and began to bang on the door.
NOT LIKE THIS!
"HANG ON!" a voice blared out from the speakers, "WERE TRYING TO OVERRIDE THE SAFETY PROTOCOLS!"
THAT'S ALL I NEED!
With a smile, I kept prying at the door trying to pull the door open.
I'm going to make it. I'm going to get out of here and bust my ass to become a voice actor. Hell, I'm going to one of the greatest ones to ever live. I'm going to make everyone proud and prove to them that they were right about me.
My body began to feel heavy and I could feel it be pulled to the center of the room. I ignored it and kept trying to pull the door open.
There was a crackle of electricity from behind me and I felt the hair on my body stand up.
Stupidly I turned around to look at the event horizon. Blue and black lightning danced around the gravitational ball. It would have been cool to watch, but I would rather do that somewhere safe. I watched as the dark energy began to course through the electricity before a stray arc of lightning flew out and came right towards me. I tried to move out of the way but I was struck by my left arm. I watched in horror as my arm started to unravel and pulled into the black hole. It didn't stop there it continued, and as if it just acknowledged what was happening All of my pain receptors went off at the same time.
Thankfully my screams didn't last long as my throat disintegrated soon after that before everything went black.
Meanwhile, in the observation room, three boys dressed in lab coats watched in horror as their help was sucked into the black hole like a spaghetti string before it poofed out of existence with a resounding, POP.
One with short brown hair and small glasses collapsed into a chair, "Well fuck," he said as he rubbed his brown eyes.
At the same time, his colleagues were arguing with each other on who they needed to tell what just happened.
"Who is going to tell the professor?"
"Who's going to tell his family?"
It didn't matter who they told, everyone was going to find out what happened here and the blame would be put on them.
"GHA!" I gasped out as I shot up and took a deep breath. With my head on a swivel, I looked around to see that I wasn't in a hospital or in the black hole room. In fact, it looked like I was in an alleyway completed with a dumpster and the occasional flicker of paper trash.
"Where am I?" I muttered.
Did they seriously dump my body in an alleyway? Yo, what the fuck that ain't cool.
With a groan, I moved to the mouth of the alleyway.
Might as well find out where I am and get home. I'll be definitely giving the university a call as well as the police. This is fucked up.
Wait...something feels off.
I looked down at my body and saw that I looked a hell of a lot younger than I was before. A bit shorter too. My clothes were different as well. I had on a t-shirt a pair of blue jeans, but now I had on a white long sleeve shirt that hung loose on my frame with a pair of grey sweat pants. I took a youthful hand and rubbed the body down and felt the developed muscles underneath. Yea definitely not my old body.
What the hell? Hold on, ah fuck me you're telling me I have to go through puberty again, man fuck that shit!
I took a deep breath to calm my mind, "Okay let's calm down. Freaking out isn't going to help me so let's take this one step at a time. First thing first, where am I?" Now calm down I poke my head out of the alleyway to gather my bearings. The magnitude of bright colors, fast-moving traffic, and the number of people was so overwhelming that I winced a bit, but I did manage to look at one of the buildings and spotted the sign.
It was written in Kanji and Japanese.
That is when I was able to take in other sensory information from the world around me.
Okay so based on the writing this is Japan. The characters are too flowy to be Chinese and the people talking around me are also pretty soft so definitely Japanese.
With this new information, I go back into the alley to gather my thoughts and start putting the pieces together.
Okay so I figured out where I am at, now how did I get here and got this younger body.
And I'm drawing a blank. I know that the eggheads were trying to fused dark energy onto metal. I know little about dark energy myself but I have a feeling that what just happened shouldn't have happened. Yet I know nothing so what the hell do I know. Fuck, what to do now!
I stuff my hands into my pockets to see if there was anything of use. Only to find a few yen and some lint. Stuffing the items back into my pocket I exit the alleyway and start walking. As I walked I tried to figure out a game plan.
I guess I could find a consultant and get back home, but I don't know how much that would be effective. I don't have any proof of ID, and I doubt that my SSN would be much effective since I'm in this body. Hell, I'm not even sure I look like myself.
I reached up and pulled down some hair and saw a clump of ocean blue hair.
That's a nope, I defiantly look different. Fuck me.
As my mind was elsewhere I wasn't paying attention to where I was going and the obvious happened. I bumped into someone.
I stumbled back and I looked up to see that I was staring right into the chest of someone tall. Like really tall. My head slowly looked up into I was staring right into the yellow slit eyes of a seven-foot-tall green scales of a monster. The fact that he was wearing a business suit didn't even occur to me as he began to glare at me and grumbled at me in Japanese.
"Anata ga iku tokoro o mite kudasai," he growled at me.
"What the fuck?!" I muttered and took a step back. My heart began to chill as the lizard man took a step towards me.
The lizard man reaches out to grab him but that makes him go further back. "Chotto kodomo kiwotsukero!" the lizard man said.
It was then that there was a loud honk sound and I turned to the source to see a massive truck come barreling towards me. Time slows down as it speeds towards me.
Is this how I die, again? Today is just not my day.
There is a tickle at the back of my mind and my body began to move on its own. My arms came up and a blue wave that flickered like fire envelopes me and the corners of my eyes glowed blue just as a blue bubble formed around me.
Time resumed speed and the truck came at me like a bullet and as soon as it hit the bubble I felt myself get launched into the air. It took a moment to realized that I was flying in the air. "What the fuck!" I screamed in shock at my current predicament, and in that moment of shock, I lost that feeling making the bubble and field dissipate.
My thoughts were zipping through my mind What the fuck was that? Was that a lizard man in a suit? Did I get hit by something? Am I flying? Did I cast a barrier? Am I going to die? Wait I'm falling.
The wind rushing past my ears as I fell to the ground. I closed my eyes and waited for the end.
Something heavy and hard slammed into me and I felt the wind change directions and coming from the side. I blinked my eyes opened to see the city zoom by me as someone was carrying me bridal style.
"I know it is a nice clear day," a deep booming voice echoed in slightly accented English. A voice that instilled confidence and inspired greatness, "but maybe you should stick to the ground," my savior chuckled. Slowly I looked up to see who my savior.
My savior has short blond hair, swept backward, with two distinct tufts that stick up above his head, leaning slightly to each side. He was a very large man with an equally muscular and well-defined physique that was coved by a white t-shirt and green pants. His face was chiseled had a prominent strong jawline and pronounced cheekbones, and bushy eyebrows. He kinda reminded me of the comic book heroes back home, like Superman and Batman. His strong features cast a dark shadow over his face, but I could still see his bright blue eyes as he smiled down at my astounded face.
I did an impression of a goldfish as I looked into the smiling face of the Symbol of Peace, All Might
Oh fuck, I'm in Boko no Hero Academia, or My Hero Academia.
