"John! I got the results for your causeway shooter. It matches across the aboard. He's going away." Calleigh said as she saw Detective John Hagen walk through the hallway at the CSI Crime Labs.
"You got that right. Patrol picked him up already." John replied.
"I thought you needed ballistics to file on him."
"We got ballistics. He shot someone else after we cut him loose."
"I thought you were going to watch him." Calleigh answered.
"We did. He got into a beef with a street-level dealer; grabbed his gun and put two rounds in him before our guys could get out of the car."
"God, I am so sorry." Calleigh said.
"Hey, one lowlife pops another. The streets are safer for it. Just be glad it wasn't a tax payer, for you and Horatio's sake." John said, a smile flickered over his face.
"Oh, no, that release was my call. He didn't have anything to do with it." Calleigh defended.
"Listen, I know you look up to the guy…" John began, thinking it was the perfect time to tell Calleigh how he felt about her.
"Sure, I do." Calleigh answered, slowly realising something she missed before.
"I'm just saying, it's a hell of a lonely road he's walking."
"Well, that's why I'm walking it with him." Calleigh replied, as she gave John the file. She then turned and walked away. That was the day John realised any kind of relationship with Calleigh was not going to happen, other than that of a purely professional one. He watched as she walked away. That day Calleigh also realised something. In the few steps in took to walk away from John she realised why she wanted to walk the road with Horatio. She did more than look up to him. She knew the road wasn't getting any shorter, and did the only thing she could. She began to run down that road. Past everything in her way, everything stopping her being with the one she had fallen in love with. Little did she know, deep inside Horatio felt it too.
