I apologize it's been so long since my last update, I moved about a month ago which is very time consuming and I had some writer's block with this chapter. But I will be updating this more often now.

Thank you to Aragorn II Elessar for his help with this chapter.

Max Niemuth: Glad to hear it. Okay.

Kent Farm

Night

Clark was awakened by a knocking on the front door. He sat up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes as he wondered who could be here this early in the morning. Throwing the blankets off him, Clark got off the couch and began heading over to the front door. Quickly using his X-Ray Vision to see who was on the other side, Clark was surprised and opened the door.

"Hi Clark. We've never properly been introduced," Sam greeted him politely.

"You're Sam. I know who you are," Clark told him. "Are you here to see Paige?"

"Actually yes. I realize it's late but I need her help," Sam said.

"Clark, who's at the door? It better be a demon," Paige said sleepily as she came down the stairs before stopping short, seeing Sam. "Sam."

"Hi Paige. Sorry to wake you," Sam said awkwardly as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"What do you want Sam?" Paige asked coolly.

"I know I have no right to ask this, but I need your help," Sam told her.

Judging by the look on Paige's face, Clark was wondering if he was going to have to break up a fight when he felt his phone vibrate. Pulling it out from his pocket, Clark saw it was a text from Tess.

'Need your help.'

"Everything okay?" Paige asked as she saw Clark's face.

"Not sure yet," Clark said as he pocketed his phone. "If I head out, will I come back to a murder scene?"

"Cute. We'll be fine. Go do your Blur thing," Paige waved him off.

Clark looked back and forth between Paige and Sam for a moment before grabbing his jack and speeding out of the house.

"And you think you've seen it all," Sam muttered, staring at the spot where Clark had disappeared.

"It takes some getting used to after Orbing," Paige agreed and there was a beat. "So, last time we spoke, you said you were leaving because you putting me in danger. I'm getting whiplash here Sam."

"I know, and I'm sorry. But it's different now. I'm not here for my daughter or a Whitelighter. I'm here for a Witch," Sam explained and Paige raised an eyebrow.

"What's up?" Paige asked, getting down to business.

"One of my Charges, a little girl named Rose. She's meant to become one of the most powerful witches of all time, a champion under the guidance of her father," Sam explained.

"So what's the problem?" Paige asked wearily.

"Rose's father, John is planning on giving Rose to an orphanage," Sam explained, to her shock. "I need your help to figure out why, so I can stop him."

"Father's abandon their kids every day, it's nothing new," Paige said, sounding bitterer than she intended.

Sam looked at her sadly, knowing she was likely still angry over their last encounter. But Sam put it aside for now, as his charge was more important.

"I know John; he loves his daughter more than anything. He wouldn't give her up unless he had no other choice," Sam said with certainty. "Have you ever heard of a man called Constantine?"

"No. Should I?" Paige asked, wondering where he was going with this.

"John Constantine. He's a witch, although he prefers to be called a Warlock. Most steer clear of him because he likes to walk a bit on the wild side," Sam explained and Paige understood.

"And he's Rose's father?" Paige asked and Sam nodded.

"And knowing him like I do, I know that John would never abandon his daughter if he had any other choice. She lost her mother a few years ago and John promised her on her death bed that he would be there for Rose. John is…well, he's an ass but he looks out for the people he cares about," Sam explained.

"So you think what, something magical is going on?" Paige inquired.

"It's the only thing that makes sense. And I need your help to figure it out and solve this before John does something he regrets," Sam said.

Watchtower

Not long after

Clark walked in, looking around for a moment before spotting Tess flipping through what seemed like a scrapbook.

"Tess," he called out and Tess looked over her shoulder, visibly surprised to see him. "You said you needed help. I thought you meant at Watchtower, not scrapbooking."

"Clark, I meant when we came into work tomorrow morning," Tess said as she got to her feet.

"Well since I'm here," Clark noted and Tess nodded.

"Someone broke into the mansion and left this with a gift tag," Tess said as she picked up a music box with a ballerina figurine on top before she handed it to Clark. "It said 'happy birthday Tess'. It's not my birthday. Someone's messing with me Clark. And I had a nightmare where I was a little girl and I was holding this exact music box. Then I woke up and I found it in the library."

Clark accidently turned it on and it began to play before Tess grabbed it, stopping it. Clark could see how shaken up by this Tess was.

"I thought I'd find a picture of it in this old photo album but…this just reminds me why I don't like going home for Christmas," Tess said lowly as she picked up the scrap book again, turning a few pages.

Clark looked at her, sensing there was a history there, but it wasn't Clark's business to pry. Looking back at the music box, Clark turned it over and saw the tag Tess had mentioned on the button. Looking at it, Clark quickly realized it was covering something and removed it, finding an old, faded tag.

"Tess, I may have found something," Clark said.

Tess looked at Clark sharply as he walked over to Tess's desk, placing the music box on the scanner. After a few moments, the tag is digitally restored. Although it's partially ripped, it did say 'property of St. Louise's orphanage'.

"Does St. Louise's mean anything to you?" Clark asked Tess.

"This might come as a surprise to you Clark, but I've never really identified with any saints," Tess said dryly.

Ignoring her snark, Clark put it in the search engine and he and Tess watched as a news article about an old woman came up.

"Who is she?" Tess asked, paling as she recognized the woman.

"Woman who runs the orphanage, Mother Teresa for orphaned children. They call her Granny Goodness," Clark said. "Guess we have our lead."

Los Angeles, next day

Morning

"So this is where he lives?" Paige asked as she and Sam stood outside a rather modest looking apartment. "From what you said, I was expecting something, well…"

"More rundown?" Sam supplied and Paige nodded. "John cleaned up his act a bit after taking in Rose. He's not perfect, but he's trying."

"We talking about him or you?" Paige snarked and Sam looked at her with guarded eyes.

"Is there a reason you're so angry with me? I told you why I had to go away," Sam tried to explain.

"And I got that. It hurt, but I got it. Only it turns out you've been lying to me. You made it sound like my Whitelighter powers coming in was an accident, but it wasn't, was it?" Paige snapped and Sam stiffened. "You made me get assigned as Clark's Whitelighter. Why?"

"It's complicated and I don't have time to explain. Can you just put it aside for now and help me help John?" Sam asked with surprising calmness.

"Fine. But this isn't over," Paige told him and Sam nodded.

"I understand," Sam said before they walked up to the door.

Sam knocked and, after a few moments, the door opened to reveal a dark haired man with light eyes.

"Sam," Constantine greeted calmly.

"John. It's good to see you again. Can I come in?" Sam asked and Constantine shrugged.

"Free country. I see you brought a friend," Constantine noted as he stepped aside, letting Paige and Sam in.

"This is Paige," Sam introduced them.

"You a Whitelighter to?" Constantine asked as he closed the door behind him.

"Not exactly," Paige said awkwardly.

"John, I'm here about Rose," Sam said and they immediately noticed the change in how he held himself, stiffening as his face became more guarded. "John, can we just talk?"

"There's nothing to discuss Sam. I'm doing what I think is best for my daughter," Constantine said stiffly.

"And how is abandoning your kid best for her?" Paige demanded, beginning to grow angry.

Before Constantine could respond, the lights began to flicker in the room. As Sam and Paige looked around in confused, Constantine grew noticeably tenser.

"You need to leave, now!" he snapped at them.

"No John, I'm not leaving. Tell me what's going on," Sam said, realizing his suspicions were proving right.

Before Constantine could respond, a drawer from the nearby kitchen was yanked open by an invisible force. A butcher knife came sailing out towards Constantine.

"Knife!" Paige said, instinctively holding out her hand.

Constantine looked on in disbelief as the knife Orbed into Paige's hand safely before the realization sunk in.

"You're a Charmed One. I've heard of you, the half Whitelighter-Witch from San Francisco," Constantine muttered and she nodded.

"Since I probably just saved your life, feel life sharing what's going on?" Paige asked shortly.

Metropolis

Same time

Clark and Tess stood outside the orphanage, Tess holding a picture of a girl who looked like an exact replica of a younger version of herself standing with Granny Goodness on the front steps.

"I swear to you, I have never been here before," Tess said as she lowered the photograph.

"You may not remember, but that was you standing on those steps twenty years ago. And someone broke into your house to remind you," Clark pointed out.

Tess frowned, not wanting to believe it. Still, she and Clark walked over to the entrance where Granny Goodness rushed down the stairs to meet them.

"Hello! You must be the reporters who called," Granny said excitedly, shaking their hands. "Welcome, welcome. The girls have been so excited. They already feel like celebrities knowing that our humble little home will be featured In the Daily Planet."

As she spoke, several young girl came up behind Granny all dressed in the same uniform. At Granny's instruction, the girls began to sing 'Amazing Grace'. As he and Tess watched, Clark paused, hearing something that sounded like a whimper with his super hearing.

"I left my notebook in the car," Clark told Tess before walking off without waiting to see if she bought his excuse.

Once he was out of view, Clark used his speed, following the source of the whimper to a side entrance. Walking through it, Clark entered into what seemed like a horror movie. It was a simply lit room with a girl strapped to a chair just down the hall. Clark quickly walked over, removing the strange device round her head and the gag around her mouth.

"Are you alright?" Clark asked in concern.

"Hurry, before Granny comes back!" the girl pleaded.

"Granny did this to you?" Clark asked in alarm as he began unstrapping her.

"She said she was gonna make me forget my parents," the girl said tearfully and Clark paused. "My mom and dad just died in a car crash. I can't lose my memories of them to!"

"Let's go," Clark said firmly.

Clark began leading the girl out of the room when they heard the clashing of steel. Clark paused as he noticed the girl become ore terrified.

"That's what Granny turns us into," she whimpered.

"I won't let that happen, I promise," Clark knelt down in front of her before leading her over to another room. "Just wait here, I'll be right back."

After making sure the girl was hidden, Clark followed the sounds to see several young women who were sparing with weapons. As Clark entered the room, he began to feel weak, almost falling to his knees. Looking over at the side, Clark saw a woman forging weapons in green fire. Kryptonite.

Hearing movement behind him, Clark turned around to see a young woman performing a hand stand before she kicked him in the chest. Clark stumbled back before he was struck in the back by what felt like metal, stumbling back towards the first woman before she slashed the side of his face with three metal claws attached to her wrist. Clark was surprised to feel he was cut.

"I'm here to help you," Clark tried to explain.

Another woman used a wrap that they wrapped around Clark's leg to knock him off his feet. Clark landed on his back before the women with the claws used her leg to pin Clark to the floor.

"No one here needs saving, except you," she said coolly.

Los Angeles

Same time

"It started a few weeks ago," Constantine said as he, Paige and Sam sat around his kitchen table. "I was coming back from an exorcism when I felt like someone was watching me. I thought I was just being paranoid until after I put Rose to bed, a bottle of scotch flew out of my liquor cabinet and nearly took my eye out. Then the next day, my taxi driver lost control of his taxi and nearly killed me. I realized someone was coming after me."

"And how does giving up your daughter tie into that?" Paige asked and Constantine sighed heavily.

"The other day, I was taking Rose to a sitter so I could try to figure out who wants me dead when the brakes suddenly went out. If I hadn't been able to use my magic to regain control…" Constantine trailed off but they understood. "I can handle these people coming after me, but Rose is innocent. I can't let her suffer just for being my daughter."

"And she doesn't get any say in that? I've seen you with her, Rose adores you John," Sam argued.

"It was a mistake bringing her into my life. I stayed away because I was afraid of my enemies putting her in danger and that's exactly what happened," Constantine said in guilt.

"From the sounds of it, she's supposed to be some paragon of good in the future. You're throwing away her destiny," Paige argued and Constantine scoffed.

"Don't talk to me about destiny. I'm sentenced to go to Hell when I die, I know it. I was a fool to think I could do some good with Rose," Constantine ran a hand over his face and they could see how tormented he was by his decision. "Do you know what it's like to look at the person you love most in the world, knowing she's better off without you? Knowing the only way to save her is to make sure you're not in her life? Do you?!"

"Yes, actually I do," Sam said as he looked at Constantine, carefully avoiding looking at Paige.

Paige likewise avoided looking at Sam, the parallels between her and Sam and Constantine and Rose not lost on her either. But the important thing here was helping Constantine.

"Look, from the sounds of it, this is a haunting of some kind. My sister's and I had to deal with something similar about a year ago. Which is good news for you, because that means you don't have to be a dick and give up Rose," Paige said and Constantine looked at her sharply. "First step is summoning the spirit to figure out why this is happening. I can do that for you, but only if you're willing to do this with us."

"What do I have to lose? Alright, it's a waste of time, but okay," Constantine said with a heavy sigh. "So, where do we start?"

Constantine would be the Keanu Reeves version. Thank you to Aragorn II Elessar for the suggestion.
