A/N: Howdy all! For all who have read my other story, this is gonna seem a LOT different. For one thing, it's a short one-shot. For another, it's Shoujo-ai (gasp!). I looked. You know how many Shoujo-ai stories there are out there? Yeah, about three. So I decided to fix that. This is written for a friend (Hey Tristan!), but anyone can read and enjoy. So, read and enjoy!

Disclaimer: I don't own FMA. If I did, that would be sooo cool!

Warning (Case no one noticed): Contains Shoujo-ai. You don't like it, leave! Don't leave a flame going "Eew, that's nasty!" You don't have to read it.

Comforting- RizaXRoss

A knock sounded on the door, and Hawkeye looked up. "Come in" she said, managing to sound curious and annoyed at the same time.

Ross came in, and Hawkeye was immediately worried, though she kept her face unemotional. The normal cheerful woman's face was clouded, and there was an air of sadness about her.

Hawkeye folded her fingers together and leaned her head on them. "Alright, what's wrong?"

"What do you mean, what's wrong? Can't I just stop in to say hi?" Ross said, sounding defensive.

"Oh come on, with that look on your face? I think even Ed could tell something's up, and you know how oblivious he can be at times."

Ross gave a short, mirthless chuckle. "Yeah, I guess so…" She sighed. "It's just, well, you know…" She walked forward and slumped into a chair. "It's everything."

"No, I don't know. Care to explain it to me?"

"It's just... well, it's how I have to watch everyone that I love put themselves at risk. I mean, I already lost one person I cared for; I don't want to lose any more. Like Ed, Al, Roy, you…"

Hawkeye's eyebrow shot up and she chuckled. "Love? Me?"

Ross's head shot up, and a blush appeared on her cheek. "N-no, not like that! I swear, I just meant it as love for a friend."

"Don't worry, I was just kidding. I know what you mean. I love you as a friend too."

Ross's head slumped back onto the desk. "It's just so hard! I mean, I know I put myself at risk as well, and there are a lot of people who worry about me, but I just can't help it. I don't want to lose anyone dear to me…" She started crying silently, her shaking shoulders giving her away.

"It's okay, I promise. Things will be better someday. I swear it." She leaned over the table and started softly petting Ross's hair.

Despite the clichéd lines, Ross felt herself relax. The gentle stroking was like a lullaby, and almost without noticing she stopped crying.

They stayed that way for a while, Hawkeye stroking Ross's hair, and Ross trying to compose herself. Finally, Ross lifted her head up, wiped away the tears, and smiled.

"Sorry bout that. Didn't mean to get that emotional. I'm all better now." She pushed herself to her feet and got ready to leave.

"Oh, sit back down. You don't have to leave yet. It's alright, everyone needs someone to talk to, so they can get things off of their chest. And I don't mind you crying, everyone needs to do that once in a while too. Even me." She smiled, a pure genuine smile that was rare for her.

Surprised, Ross sat back down, just staring at Hawkeye. Then she looked down at her feet. "Um, Riza?"

"Yes?"

"Well, you know when I said that I just considered you my friend?"

"Yes?" She sounded more curious than anything, which gave Ross the courage to go on.

"Well… I… I lied."

"Huh. Well, guess what?"

Ross looked back up. "What?"

"I was lying too"

Ross's eyes widened. Hawkeye smirked, then leaned in and, grabbing Ross's chin, kissed her firmly on the lips.

Far too soon for her liking, Hawkeye leaned back. "Well?"

Ross blinked, than said, "I, I'm glad you were lying."

"Good" Hawkeye leaned back in. Ross's last coherent thought before she fully gave into the kiss was 'Well, maybe things will turn out good after all."

A/N: Short, I know. I'm sorry. I tried my best though. I may write a follow-up, so keep watch!
