Chapter 5
Miki's Quirk

Its been a month now since Nyssa's return and her and Shoto were getting close and Miki seemed to have quite a bond with him. Endeavor even let Nyssa bring her to work on days off of school or she had to finish some work. Usually Kirashima would watch her for a bit or Bakugo took her. Nyssa was surpised he had a soft spot for kids since he always had a temper and was hard headed. It was nice to see a different side of Bakugo. But Miki's favorite spot when at work was on Shoto's lap watching him work when he wasn't on patrol or meeting. Nyssa never saw her ex treat Miki like a daughter, but Shoto was treating her like a father figure would and Nyssa couldn't help but smile.

Nyssa opened the door to her apartement with the groceries in her arms. Miki ran ahead in the apartment as Nyssa closed the door with her foot. Shoto was finishing stuff up at work. Nyssa set the stuff on the counter. She started to put the stuff away as she heard Nyssa's giggles from the bedroom. Nyssa smiled. She heard her phone vibrate and grabbed it. Shoto had texted he was on his way. Nyssa felt her heart leap. Miki will be happy. He had been gone the last two nights on partrol with villians coming out a bit more and Nyssa had a feeling her ex was looking for her more. She would go to work in a hoodie and keep up the hood. She had felt a few times like sheh was being watched.

'It's only a matter of time before he finds me. But what the hell do I do when he finds me. I don't want to disappear again. I don't think Shoto would forgive me.' Nyssa said. She closed her eyes and opened them. 'I need to tell him the truth and soon or he will find out on his own.' A scream comes making Nyssa's blood run cold

Mommy!" Miki called. Nyssa ran towards the bedroom and her eyes widen when she saw Miki. Fire surrounded her white hair side. The fire ran up her arms and to her side of the head. A paniced look on Miki's face told her it just manifested and she wasn't sure how to control it. "Mommy. I'm scared."

"Relax, Miki. Your fear is making the flames stronger." Nyssa said, walking towards Miki. Miki backed away and the flames almost grew from fear. Nyssa saw it wasn't burning her and the flames were red like Shoto's.

"Nyssa!" Shoto called as the door opened and closed.

"Shoto. In here. I need help." Nyssa called. Shoto hurried in and eyes widen when he saw Miki. "She just discovered it." Shoto saw the fear in Miki's eyes. Shoto came up to her and knelt in front of her. She moved away.

"Miki. Your flames are a stronger cause your afraid. Take deep breaths." Shoto said. Miki looked at him. The fear was still there. "Trust me. I can help you control it. Just listen to what I tell you and you'll be fine. Understand?" Miki nodded and started taking deep breaths. Nyssa sighed as the fire started to lower till it was gone. Miki threw her arms around Shoto and hugged him. "Are you burnt anywhere?"

"My palm hurts a bit." Miki said. Shoto sighed.

"You'll have to be trained to learn to control the heat and how to use the quirk. I'll teach you." Shoto said. Miki looked at him.

"Really?" Miki asked. Shoto nodded. Miki squealed and hugged Shoto tighter. "Thank you. Thank you." Shoto hugged the girl back. Shoto let the girl and stood up. "But what about my other quirk?" Shoto and Nyssa share looks.

"What do you mean, sweatheart?" Nyssa asked. Miki held out her hand that wasn't used for her fire quirk on her blue hair side and a wall of water forms in her hand. Nyssa and Shoto's eyes widen. Miki's quirk was half water, half fire. Shoto was just as shocked.

"I think me and Shoto both will train you with your quirk, honey." Nyssa said. Miki smiled. Shoto came up to her. He had put two and two together on something.

"I want to talk to you after she's down and can we try and keep this from my father for now?" Shoto asked. Nyssa nodded.

"Your not going to be able to keep this hidden from him long, Shoto." Nyssa said, looking into his mismatched eyes.

"I know, but for now. I want her to have a childhood unlike mine." Shoto said. Nyssa didn't argue. She knew of Shoto's past with his father.

As the night went Shoto sat in silence as they ate and watched a movie. Shoto kept an eye on Miki but she didn't loose control again. Nyssa and Miki were curled together in the chair. Shoto watched the two. He smiled a little. Miki fell asleep during the movie. Nyssa picked her up and headed for the room. Shoto took the garbage to the garbage can as she went. A lot of things were going through his head. Nyssa came out of the room and closed the door behind her.

"Shoto." Nyssa said as she sees his back to her. He had been avoiding her since Miki showed her quirk. She had a feeling he figured it out.

"You said Miki's father is a villian." Shoto said, not turning to face her.

"He is." Nyssa said in a calm voice.

"There's only one villian I know that uses the fire quirk." Shoto said. Nyssa had to bite her bottom lip as Shoto turns to look at her. "It's Dabi. That is Miki's father." They stood in silence. (AN: Just a warning its spoilers of the Manga.)

"He is." Nyssa said. Shoto ran his hands through his hair. He didn't know what to feel that his best friend didn't just sleep with a villian but his own brother. "Shoto. Remember. I had lost my parents the week before you guys took me out drinking to help me cope. You think I wanted it to end up waking up in bed with someone that I fought with you guys during the War." Her parents were killed trying to save people from a burning building and the building collapsed before they could escape. Shoto remembered after it happened. Him and Izuku nearly had to force her to get out of bed at times and eat. She was a wreak and Shoto had never left her side.

"Were you going to tell me the truth of who the father was?" Shoto asked. Nyssa had to bite her checks from crying. She had feared this was going to happen. "That it was brother. Of all people."

"You think I wanted it. He took advantage of my grief. He knew we were close during school." Nyssa said. Shoto ran a hand through his hair. "I wished things would of been different."

"I really don't know how to take this. I wished you wouldn't have kept it from me or the others. I need time to think." Shoto said as he heads for the door.

"Shoto. I..." He opens the door and leaves, slamming the door behind him. Nyssa puts her hands to her face as she felt the tears coming. "I'm sorry, Shoto." She barely whispered as she sank to the floor.
