Hiccup and Snotlout found some shelter, and Hiccup explained to Snotlout what exactly happened.
"I had given up hope of ever going back," said Hiccup. "I honestly thought that I would never get out of Purgatory at all or see Astrid, Ruby, you or anyone else again either. This is a real shock, but why exactly are you in Purgatory anyway? Don't tell me you finally died."
"Hardly; I obviously came here looking for you and bringing you back home."
"Wait a second? Do you know the way back?" said Hiccup stunned.
Snotlout opened his mouth and looked slightly embarrassed. "Uh…"
"Please tell me you didn't recklessly go into Purgatory without a way of getting back?" Hiccup groaned.
"It's not as if I had any choice in the matter; then I could leave you alone in this crap hole."
Hiccup sighed. "I suppose it pays to have idiots for friends."
We then got their season and reached the edge of the cliff.
"Well, we have plenty of time to figure it out," said Hiccup.
"Yep, two heads are better than one. Let's do it!"
The two of them then jumped down off the cliff but were unaware that they were being observed by a dragon with pure white scales.
Hiccup and Snotlout soon entered the canyon, and Hiccup began to explain a bit more about Purgatory.
"Now, there are two different types of creatures that exist in Purgatory," said Hiccup as a demonic centipede went by them. "Foreign creatures are the ones that originate from souls that fell here and end up becoming savages."
"So, like the monsters, you and I turned into?" said Snotlout looking at the demonic centipede.
"Exactly, and since they lose themselves in the process, they turn to dust after they die."
Once the creature had passed, they continued to move into the came across a strange-looking creature. It walked on two legs that looked like they belonged to a goat, a loins tail, the body of an elephant and the head of a dog which was sniffing around.
"The second type are indigenous creatures; they were born here and have a semblance," Hiccup continued. "Their bodies evolved to live and thrive in Purgatory's harsh environment. They are the ones we should set our sights on. We can make clothes out of the materials we harvest from them."
The centipede that they had come across earlier appeared directly behind the strange creature. It then tried to eat it, but the creature quickly scampered off faster than the eye could see.
"That creature sure can move fast," Snotlout observed as they chased after it. "This is going to be fun!"
They ran down the canyon as quickly as they could, and Snotlout was finally close enough.
"Here I go! Fox Hunt!" he yelled, extending his hand.
However, before you could take the creature's heart, it vanished and then shot straight towards Hiccup.
"Hiccup is coming straight towards you now!" Snotlout yelled.
'This one seems to understand the situation, must be as natural instinct,' Hiccup assumed.
It then slammed into Hiccup, knocking him upwards into the air, much to Snotlout's disbelief.
"Wh-what?" he stared.
"Figured that would happen," said Hiccup as he picked himself up.
"What was that? What happened to usual animalistic strength go?" Snotlout demanded.
Hiccup looked at him. "Did you at all forget this is not my physical body, I merely the emotions of Hiccup Haddock, which more or less makes me his soul? Which means I lack the physical power of my real body, which means nothing more than a burden to you."
"Do you always have to make things so difficult?" Snotlout grunted. "I'm getting with no choice but to carry you the entire way."
Snotlout turned around to face the creature and tried to use his powers to snag the creature's heart. However, somehow sensed this and boots so fat that within seconds it, they were directly behind him.
While they attempted to capture the creature, Hiccup began to explain more about his situation.
"Because of the curse of the Demon King placed on me, I get torn away from my true form every single time I die and sent me here."
"What does he get by doing that?"
"Because both he and the Supreme Deity trapped Meliodas' soul inside of me using my emotions of the chain to keep him bound. Additionally, the Demon King made it so that our motions are linked to one another, so the more times I die, it is one step close to releasing Meliodas and removing his emotions. The Demon King wishes to see Meliodas to become his successor, but his emotions get in the way of that happening. That's what he wants to erase them; getting rid of me is a bonus."
"I get it now."
The two of them had been chasing the creature for what felt like hours and were both rather exhausted.
"Still can't believe that you survived in Purgatory with the physical body all this time," said Hiccup.
"There were a lot of times when I thought about giving up, but I just kept going, and now I've gotten so used to being here that I can even get some sleep."
Snotlout then began to concentrate hard just as the creature they were chasing was about to bite down on him. A split second later, he moved with unbelievable speed and kicked the creature so hard that he crushed it beneath his feet.
"Victory!" he cried.
They soon found a cave and began setting themselves to work, skinning the creature so they could fashion themselves clothes. It was, after all, rather awkward for them wandering around Purgatory butt-naked.
"Yeah, Snotlout," said Hiccup as he began fashioning himself a sword out of bone.
"Yeah, what's up?" Snotlout asked.
"You are pretty amazing, you know."
"What's with the sudden compliment?"
"Just want to thank you for everything."
Snotlout then began to inform them of what happened prior to his departure from Purgatory.
"After Eret took down the rampaging Meliodas, his mentor showed up and challenged us. I have to say that old geezer was something else. Anyway, Meliodas regained consciousness and took Ruby to Xeovell, but I'm pretty sure the others have rescued her by now."
"Well, it's nice to hear that Meliodas' feelings for Ruby haven't changed. As for me, the Demon King took immense pleasure in tormenting me. I spent an unknown amount of time looking for the exit, determined to return to my real form, but I was never able to find it. So I finally gave up and gave into despair. Apparently, the Demon King found it amusing to watch me become a monster and chucked me out."
"So he was confident that you couldn't escape, and that's why he let you roam. He didn't think there was any sort of possibility that you might run into the exit by chance just by wandering around."
"That's my theory and explains why he flew me out without thinking. Of course, in so doing so, he might have accidentally given me a hint on where the exit is located. In all likelihood, the exit is actually within the vicinity of the Demon King. Of course, like I said, this is all theory."
"Well, it's not like we have anything else to go on, and you're usually right."
"Usually?" Hiccup questioned.
Once they had finished making themselves new clothes, they put them on, and Snotlout took this opportunity to shave. Hiccup strapped his newly forged sword onto his back and attached his new prosthetic leg. Once they were all done, they set off once again.
"All right, sounds like we have a plan at least," said Hiccup. "Time to begin our exit mission."
They soon began running across an open field with giant insects which had the bodies of the gorilla, the waist down, and they were mantises.
"I've got a question for you, what is the first thing you do when you get back to the living world?" Snotlout asked.
"First outbreak Ruby's curse, now I'll spend as much time as possible with Astrid and then probably get drunk."
"Sounds good. Obviously, I'm going to bring Shanna back to life, and then I'll drown myself in booze."
"Sounds like we have more or less the same goals in mind."
"One of the few times we see eye to eye with one another."
Hiccup then saw one of the insects firing some sort of acid towards him and quickly dodged it.
"Plasma Blade!" he yelled, jumping at the creature with his blade.
He did well enough force to knock it down, but then a foreign creature with a rat's body and back-like wings grabbed him with its lizardlike tail. Hiccup tried to free himself from its grip, but it was just too tight around him.
"I can't get out!"
Snotlout then suddenly jumped in the air and punched its head so hard that it was blown away from its body, turning it into dust. He then grabbed Hiccup as they fell back towards the ground.
"Don't worry, I'll clean this up in a flash," Snotlout assured him. "Have a taste of my… Crazy Hunt!"
He then moved his hand so fast that it was a blur, and within seconds he had stolen the hearts of each one of the creatures below them.
Snotlout landed and dropped Hiccup. "Like I said, it's no problem for me."
His eyes then turned towards the same type of strange creature that he and Hiccup first encountered.
"Suppose I can take care of one more," he said, extending his hand. Within seconds he snatched the creature's heart before it had a chance to move. "I couldn't resist; this guy's meat tastes amazing."
They soon returned back to their cave and began to eat, and Snotlout wasn't wrong. The creatures meet did taste amazing.
"This is the best," said Snotlout with his mouth full. "I'm young, and you're not in your real form, but still, nothing beats a good meal. Don't you feel so alive when you're eating?"
Hiccup, however, just sat there looking at him.
"You're not eating," Snotlout noted. "Is something wrong?"
"It's been over 500 years since we reunited, but I'm still surprised and honestly shocked that your ability to adapt," said Hiccup.
"Where did you expect me to do? I'm not like you; I'm living flesh and blood. So I really have no choice but to adapt."
"It's absurd that you never consider the possibility that you couldn't," said Hiccup as he finally took a bite from the meat. "You're insane."
"Oh, and that's not everything. Check this out; perhaps I have adapted too well. I'm completely immune to any kind of burns or frostbite too. Hell, even the air that used to be suffocating, it's crazy, but it tastes delicious to me now."
"Snotlout, humans were definitely not built to survive here in Purgatory at all that alone with their sanity intact. I bet you're the first and last."
"I'm not sure I count; I am undead, after all."
"It takes a lot more than that to be able to endure it," Hiccup assured him.
Snotlout just laughed. "Then maybe it's also thanks to the shitty environment I grew up in. Sort of like I had a head start."
"That's not what I was talking about either. Your experience here, enduring all those hardships along the way, triggered a dramatic change within both your body and spirit. I'm sure everyone will be surprised when we get back."
"I don't know about all that, but it would be pretty great if I powered up enough to face off against the Ten Commandments as an equal. That would make it all worthwhile."
Hiccup just laughed.
"Hey, what are you laughing at!" Snotlout yelled. "Got something to say to me!"
"No, I wouldn't dream of it," said Hiccup.
"There's something that I only understood after being stuck here," said Snotlout, and Hiccup looked at him confused. "I mean, I always knew you were strong, but you have tremendous hidden power. I mean, even before coming here, you had 3,000 years of experience under your belt, but after what happened here, your indomitable spirit has become even more indomitable. I don't want to get your real body back; you'll be completely unstoppable."
Snotlout then rose to his feet. "We've never seen eye to eye, but the one thing we can agree on is that we are a pretty awesome team. So let's go and find the Demon King and get back already!"
"Once we get back, I can't wait to make up lost time with Astrid," said Hiccup.
"And I'll flirt with Shanna like there's no tomorrow!"
The two of them laughed but then suddenly stopped when they sensed something watching.
"You sense what I sense?" Snotlout asked.
"Yeah, we're being watched," Hiccup nodded.
They then quickly moved; hiccup jumped into the air and drew his sword, swinging it down on the creature that was spying on them. However, whatever it was, it was fast and avoided his blade, and Hiccup quickly chased after it.
Snotlout stood in its path and raised his hand. "I've got ya!"
However, the creature moved with unbelievable speed and avoided his snatch, and the only thing he managed to grab were pure white dragon scales.
Hiccup looked around for the creature but then felt something breathing down his neck.
"Stay where you are," said a smooth, silky female voice.
"Who are you?" Hiccup asked.
Snotlout spun around, and the only thing he could see from the shadows were pure blue eyes with slits.
"I asked the questions," she said. "Tell me who you are, strange ones? You mentioned going back somewhere. You also said a lot of things that I couldn't just overlook. It seems ridiculous, but is it possible that you're travellers from a different world?"
"Well, I guess you could call us at," said Hiccup.
"I knew it!"
"Now and some me," Snotlout snarled. "Are you one of the Demon King's underlings?"
"The Demon King? Oh, I have no love for the Demon King after what he did to me," she said. "If it's of interest, I do know where he is."
Both Hiccup and Snotlout's eyes widened.
"Wait? Do you really know where he is?" said Hiccup.
"Yes, and I would even show you the wave you wish. However, in return, I merely ask for your cooperation."
Hiccup sheathed his sword, and Snotlout stood down.
"You never did mention who you are?" said Hiccup.
The creature then stepped out of the light, and there were completely stunned because she looked exactly like Toothless, only she had pure white scales instead of black.
"My name is Luna," she said. "I have been wandering the wilds in search of my mate, who was tragically taken for me."
"Toothless?" they stared.
Luna looked at them, confused. "No, it's Luna."
"When you mentioned your mate, who was tragically separated, you weren't talking about Toothless, perchance?" Hiccup asked.
Luna's eyes widened. "Wait, are you saying that you know my mate!"
"If your mate is an exact replica of you except with black scales and green eyes, then yeah, we know him," said Snotlout.
"That's him! Please, you must tell me everything that you know," she said pleadingly, but then she noticed the wind was picking up. "But not here, a scorching sandstorm is nearly upon us, and this shelter of yours is not going to give you protection. I can take you to my home, where you will be safe from the sandstorm."
Luna took them to a cave just in time to avoid the fierce sandstorm that would no doubt tear their skin from their bodies. It was clear that she had calmed the place out by herself, judging from the scratch marks on the walls.
"Nice place; you carve this place all by yourself?" Snotlout asked.
"I did, and you're my very first guests," she said.
"This place really is amazing," said Hiccup as he looked around.
"When in Purgatory and is best to keep your mind occupied, and I had nothing but time in my claws," she said.
"You made this place out of boredom?"
"There is a lot to do here in Purgatory if you can believe it," she said as she handed them balls of some sort of liquid. "Any way have a sip of this. It's Wart Tea."
"I take it it's made from warts," Hiccup assumed.
"Sounds delicious," said Snotlout.
They took a sip of the tea, and it was immediately disgusting, but after spending centuries in Purgatory, they were pretty much immune to the taste.
"It tastes just like Purgatory," said Hiccup.
"Yeah, I can't think of any other way to describe it," Snotlout agreed.
Luna then took a sip of the tea. "It is disgusting, but when there is a lack of drinkable drinking water, you have to make do with what you've got. Now discussing my mate, please tell me that he's all right. It's been 8 million years since I've last seen."
"How did the two of you get separated?" Hiccup asked.
"We were out flying one day enjoying ourselves when suddenly the Demon King snatched Toothless. There was nothing I could do; all I knew was that he was sent to a completely different world."
"I first met Toothless 16 years ago," said Hiccup folding his arms. "A minute there equates to one year in Purgatory, then the timeline does make sense."
"One thing I could never understand is why the Demon King took him," said Luna.
"I believe he was sent there to spy on me since I possessed the soul of his son."
"You possess what?" Luna stared.
"It's the only explanation why Toothless was chosen."
"Wait, you're saying that you possess the soul of the Demon King's son?" Luna stared. "That is difficult to believe. There again, I never did ask your names."
"My name is Hiccup, and this is Snotlout," said Hiccup.
"I can understand why he would need a spy, but why was Toothless chosen?" Luna asked.
"In the beginning, the Demon King used regular animals to spy on me; I'm guessing he figured that I would be too weary of them. However, they kept ending up dying due to mishaps or short life spans. That must be when he figured to use a creature from Purgatory, and Toothless is a Night Fury, one of the strongest breeds of dragons."
"But why didn't he tell us that he was from Purgatory or that he had a mate?" Snotlout asked.
"It's possible the Demon King altered his memories so that I would end up being suspicious."
"Please tell me more about Toothless; I want to know everything," Luna pleaded.
Hiccup and Snotlout then began telling her everything they knew about Toothless, from the day Hiccup first met him all the way before Snotlout had entered Purgatory. Though she looked as if she was about to have a heart attack when they told her that he nearly died by the hand of Alvin.
"I can't believe he almost got himself killed," said Luna. "But it's nice to hear that he hasn't changed; he always did like to help those in need. Plus, it's nice to hear that he made some wonderful friends."
"You're right about that," Hiccup smiled.
Meanwhile, at Xeovell, the battle was still raging on, and Ludociel had just attacked Zeldris.
"You should be grateful to be burn and writhe by my Grace," she said. However, when the smoke cleared, Zeldris stood there unscathed. "Oh, even though there was a demonstration, you withstood my technique with ease. Is that an example of that godlike power that's been given to you?"
Zeldris merely drew his sword and took up the strain stance.
"Oh," said Chandler
"That stance must be…" said Cusack.
Dark flames began to cover Zeldris' body. "With that out of the way, it's time that I show you my true magical power!"
"I get the sense that he is not bluffing," said Eret.
"I can't defend you from here on, so stand back," said Ludoicel to Alvin.
"Right, I will," said Alvin, not questioning her decision.
"I thought we'd get to do more," Chandler grumbled.
"Yeah, too bad there's no place for us here," Cusack agreed.
"Now then, savour this!" Zeldris roared as he raised his sword. "My Dark Nebula!"
Suddenly everyone felt a powerful force drawing them towards him, surprising them all.
"Get out of my way!" Zeldris warned.
He then swung his sword, and a split second later, all of them were sent flying backwards into the wall.
"W-what happened to me?" Ludoicel groaned. "My body was pulled in."
A split second later, she found herself being pulled back towards Zeldris and quickly stuck her rapier into the ground. Eret quickly dug his feet into the ground to prevent him from being pulled in.
Unfortunately, both Gilthunder and Alvin have been rendered unconscious were now being pulled towards Zeldris.
"Alvin!" Ludoicel yelled as they flew past.
Then suddenly, the two of them vanished and reappeared behind them with Ragnar.
"It's okay, you can relax. They're both still alive," Ragnar informed them.
"Sir Ragnar!" said Eret.
"In any case, this situation is—"
Ragnar then suddenly found himself being pulled towards Zeldris with Gilthunder and Alvin, but then quickly teleported and reappeared behind Eret.
"Now, that was a cunning act," said Cusack.
"He's maintained his distance by using continuous teleportation," said Chandler.
"If you want to pull me that badly, I don't mind coming to you willingly!" said Ludoicel. He then removed his rapier hand and flew directly towards Zeldris. "However, you should know that I've already seen for your swordsmanship!"
Zeldris just smiled, and a split second later, Ludoicel found herself blasted back against the wall, with blood pouring out of her mouth. A split second later, her chest armour shattered to pieces, and then suddenly, she was pulled in back towards Zeldris.
Fortunately, she landed on Eret's back, who was now acting like a human windshield.
"That was a very careless thing to do, do bear in mind that body does not belong to you," said Eret.
Ludoicel glared at him. "Don't you dare taught to me that way, you giant fool!"
"So you think that I may fool, do you?" Eret growled.
"Seems at the two of you are getting along better than ever," said Ragnar as he reappeared behind them.
"Ragnar, what's the deal with his magical powers?" Ludoicel asked.
"At this point, there are three known traits of his Dark Nebula ability," Ragnar observed. "First, the strong vacuum that merges around him, attracting only living beings. Second, our physical attacks are completely nullified, and he can then strike with an unknown attack.
And what I just discovered, he was completely untouched by any of the attacks we executed before he activated the Dark Nebula making our magical attacks ineffective. Although, that is most likely the power of his availability, the power called God. We're totally vulnerable to his attack are unlimited. This battle was going to be even more painstaking than we imagined."
"Hey, Eret, I need you to lend me a hand!" Ludoicel commanded.
"No, I refuse," said Eret stubbornly.
"Huh? What are you trying to pull here?"
"What gives you the authority to bark orders at me? That is rather arrogant of you."
Everyone just stared at him, perplexed.
"What did he just say?" said Ludoicel, Cusack and Chandler in unions.
"Who are you to utter such arrogance?" Ludoicel yelled.
"I'm Eret the Lion Son," Eret shrugged.
"Simply deplorable," Ludoicel growled. "Well, I am Ludoicel of, leader of the Four Archangels of the Angle Clan."
"And I couldn't care less."
"Someone like you should take my words as God's words and cooperate without question!"
"Did you forget that it was your God that cursed Sir Hiccup, Lady Ruby and her lover with the cruellest fate imaginable?"
"You can't be serious."
Ludoicel then lost her grip and found herself being pulled back towards Zeldris.
Ragnar then reappeared behind Eret once again. "Eret, I don't like it any more than you do, but we have to play nice, at least for the time being."
Eret then reluctantly grabbed Ludoicel. "Fine."
"What?" Ludoicel roared, glaring at him. "So you will take his orders over mine?"
"Sir Ragnar has my complete trust; you, on the other hand, attacked me the first time we met. Anyway, you best have a good strategy in mind already, and you take care of that body you're possessing."
"I need you to assure me that you'll obey my words."
Meanwhile, in Purgatory, the sandstorm had finally stopped, and Hiccup and the others stepped outside.
"All right, it doesn't look so bad now," said Hiccup. "Now, since the hot sandstorm has finally stopped, should we head off and resume our escape mission?"
"Right, we're off to see the Demon King, and I'll finally be reunited with my beloved once again," said Luna.
The three of them then set out on what could only be described as a suicide mission.
