The Disney Princess wannabe walked through the parking lot, and entered the building with glee in her entire demeanor. Her hair was a lot longer, and styled akin to Princess Aurora's hair, compared to Snow White's like it was on the show. She started humming to herself as she made her way into the room, "Good morning to the lovely network. I am so thrilled to recap my adventure on the show, and with my cast."
Ella went out of her way to hug every single person in the room, which took at least two minutes. After being embraced, Josh ushered her to sit down, "Hi Ella, I really like the enthusiasm. Due to that, we're gonna get right to it. I have a stack of pictures that have the people you competed with, and I'm going to present one alphabetically to you, where you will discuss your interactions with each of them through the show, and since the show. Amy is first."
All she did was sigh sadly, "Amy and I were not on the same team, but there was a sense of anger in her, that I did not understand. She and her sister were cheerleaders, just like I was, so I thought we would all be close, but we never had an opportunity to bond or speak about it. When we were at the at the elimination resort, Amy wanted to... check me, or whatever that meant. For some reason, it bothered her that I forgave people, especially Sugar. I remember her trying to rehash all of the tension amongst everyone, and tried to say stuff about how Sugar didn't like me. I just didn't care, and I wanted to focus on having a good time. She also got mad because I was not impressed with Ariel or Jasmine as Disney Princesses. I told her that I liked their bravery, but their lack of discipline, disrespect, and revealing clothing was not ideal for me. She got VERY upset, and threw a tantrum over it, since she claimed that I apparently am not a feminist for liking Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora. Outside of that, we did go on double dates with Topher and Dave some time after the show ended, and she did seem to meddle out, so I didn't mind her then. Very limited experiences with her overall, and ever since."
"So I did hear that you and Beardo had a... great experience together, and was able to bond musically through the show. How did all of that happen?" Josh asked, as he presented her the picture of the first boot.
All she did was smile when she saw Beardo's picture, "Oh yes, I was shocked with him and I having a successful musical collaboration together, but it will always bond us. He and Leonard didn't get along very well, and he didn't help out during the challenge, so I did not have an issue with voting him out. When I got eliminated, he got really interested in hearing what happened that would cause me to get eliminated, since him and Leonard knew how well insulated I was in the team, so me getting voted out by Team Maskwak made no sense. He was VERY sympathetic as to what happened, and he wanted my help with getting him and Leonard to start bonding, so I put the two of them in the same room, and we talked everything out. He had been making music for the twins, because they individually wanted to come up with some cheers, and the two of us started bonding over music. He taught me how to produce and write music, where I could only sing, play some instruments, and read music."
He wanted to dig more into it, "After your elimination song aired, you got a recording contract, and it helped both of you and Beardo's careers. You two are the only ones outside of the Drama Brothers who had success in the music industry."
"The producers were mad that they never made an official soundtrack release for the third season, and that the Drama Brothers used "Baby" for their album. Since they knew that my song would catch traction, they asked me to record it ahead of time. I had Beardo help me with it, but during that time, there were real labels who were approaching me for a contract, so I signed one, and bought the rights to the song. It actually charted on Billboard and the charts, so the label wanted me to create an album. I told them Beardo produced the song, so I asked him to help make my album, and the label signed him on as a producer. We worked together for so many nights in those months, and it really bonded us together, since I was creating my own lyrics, and helping with the writing/production of the music. I guess they would call me a one-album wonder, which worked well for me, since I liked broadway more, but Beardo has written and produced many hit songs and albums since. I love him as a friend."
Dave's picture was put on the picture, and Josh had a confused expression on his face, "So from what we saw on the show, you developed a random crush on Dave for your last two episodes on the show, and he never paid attention to you at all. While I'm glad we didn't get ANOTHER generation of a painful love triangle, how do you justify this?"
She looked at the picture, and smiled, "Well, he had such amazing hair, with the right texture, volume, and there's a sense of shininess to it. Dave is just a very attractive man, but we did not speak much during the first few weeks, since I did think he was a bit... stuck up, and I didn't like his conflict with my friend Leonard. Once we started going on a winning streak, we all started to bond, since our team morale went up, and I saw that he was more gentlemanly than I thought, and he did remind me of some of the classic Disney Princes. He actually has a really nice voice, and is a HUGE Disney fan too. We started becoming friendly, but I was naive to not notice that he had a huge infatuation with Sky, but I had to go through that experience to grow. Just a lack of understanding certain social queues. We did not speak initially once he was eliminated, since I was still too heartbroken, and I felt like he didn't care at all. I also could not hear him talk about Sky, while dealing with my own heartbreak. Once he did approach me to apologize, we worked it all out, and we started bonding a lot, as genuine friends."
"So how did that end up with the two of you dating? He went from having no interest in you whatsoever, to the both of you going out. Were you happy that him and Sky didn't work out, since it gave you a chance to deal with him? And what did you think about his villainous turn at the finale?"
All she did was sigh at the mention, "What a loaded set of questions Joshua. The crew accidentally left him on the island in the finale, and when the blip of eliminated campers flew over, we stopped by to reminisce to get some last minute memories, since we knew that filming stopped. We picked him up, he was bald, and apparently attacked by some bear. It took him a while to tell us what happened, and almost EVERYONE turned on him. He didn't handle it well, and cried himself to sleep when we were flying back. Whatever anger issue he had quickly turned to sadness and depression, so I went to tell him that every person makes mistakes, but growing from it, and learning from it shows the goodness in each person. We started talking over the phone and hanging out a lot. I think we went to one of the events after the season, and he went out of his way to kiss me. We decided to give it a chance, but we intentionally waited until the season was out of the public consciousness. Both of us are tidy people, so we bonded over cleanliness, and Dave is REALLY into theater and culture, so we went to watch a lot of films and movies. Dave really has many elements of a Disney Prince, and it just validated why I liked him on the island."
Josh wanted to get to the good stuff, "How long did the two of you date, and how did you break up? Did you have a feeling that he wasn't over Sky?"
Her face went whiter than usual, and there was a blankness there for a few seconds, "We dated for... about a year and a half. One of the reasons why we went our separate ways is that I did feel like he used me as some sort of rebound, and after the trauma bonding that caused our relationship to thrive, it became exhausting, and a bit too convenient. I knew that he was not over Sky, and I would see him fight hard to not look at her whenever the cast went to events with one another. I also needed some time to myself, and to find what I really wanted in a partner, since neither one of us should feel like we are second place, and our careers/lifestyles are not compatible. Dave and I are still friends, and communicate pretty regularly, so I appreciate what he gave me."
"That's great, about you two still being good friends, despite you clearly being his rebound," Josh commented, while presenting the next picture, "I don't recall you and Jasmine ever interacting on the show, but the editors didn't show anyone interacting, outside of with 1-2 other people."
"Well, we were not close during the season, since we didn't have much of an opportunity to get to know one another. We were on opposite teams, and I never made the merge, so we kind of just stuck to our own teams. I instantly noticed that she had her guard up, and a lot of walls, which was just very sad to me. From the few conversations we did have, or just hearing what she said to people in general, about feeling like she is representing for many demographics; Australian, indigenous, and black people, and she wanted to be a good role model. She knew that she came off as intimidating, especially due to the height, and we actually had a conversation about heartbreak in one of my last days in the game, since Dave broke my heart, and Shawn broke hers. I didn't think she would care about anything pertaining romance, and we cheered one another up. It was a great moment between the two of us, and we did have a nice time together over the last few weeks, especially since she told me to not forget about or give up on love, since she and Shawn reunited by that time. Jasmine and I have not remained friends, but she did invite me to Australia, and I felt like she was trying to break Dave and I up, because she has a vendetta against him. I guess we are cordial."
Josh went to grab another picture, "So it's been discussed that you and Leonard bonded IMMEDIATELY, and I guess it made sense, since you both tended to believe in the make believe."
All she did was let out a chuckle, "What people don't realize is that Leonard is what people call... a troller. He likes to get a rise out of people, and he knows playing up the wizard thing is going to piss people off, and it annoyed people like Dave. From my conversations with him, he does believe in witchcraft, and certain potions, energy, etc., but he does not think he is a warlock, and he is more spiritual and goes off auras, if that makes sense. Leonard didn't know that Dave and some other people were as mad about it as he was, since it was affecting the team, and he didn't know when to let it go, so it was why he got booted so early. What I liked about him was his positive attitude and optimism, which is something that was missing a lot from the cast. Due to not knowing when to stop, he was eliminated, but he then turned on me to save himself, which I now know it's because of Sugar. When I was sent home, I asked him why he turned on me to save him, and he told me what I just told you, which I still thought was so confusing, since I considered Sugar a friend. We did start to bond a lot more during this time we were at the resort, since we told one another some personal stories, and we both went through so much trauma in our lives, which could explain why we liked the fairytale stuff, as a way of escapism. I could talk to him about anything, and he really was one of my closest friends, but there was a distance."
"I think I know what the distance between you was about," Josh insinuated, and gave her a knowing look. "You seriously don't have thought that anything good would happen with that, when you decided to go ahead and date his enemy in Dave? Just from the stuff that I heard went down between the two of you, there was no mending to be made. That was asking for trouble."
Ella looked confused, "I don't... see how dating one person should... cause the other to feel the need to distance themselves from me, and extend more conflict. Their issues had... nothing to do with me, and I knew that they were good people at heart, but... they were never able to let it go. Leonard thought that Dave wasn't good for me, and while I do think that he was proven to be right, Leonard had other motives. We have hung out and spoken over the years, though he was closer to Sugar, and there was a point in time where we distanced from one another.. Overall, Leonard has always protected me, and been a good friend to me."
He placed the next picture on the table, with very little expression, "So this... creature named Max is next, and the only connection between you two that I recall is that your disqualification spared him from being rightfully eliminated. What was your experience with him?"
"Max did not want to speak to me for most of the season, and I really did try to be his friend. There was a softer, more nurturing side of him that my gut just picked up on, and I had to follow it. He reminded me a lot of Quasimodo from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", and I wanted to get to know him. From the few conversations we had, Max has been treated horribly through his life, and I think that caused him to become very defensive. I had, and in a sense... still do have this NEED to fix people, solve their problems, and try to bring out the good in everyone, but there are dangers in that, and I think it showed... a flaw of mine," she elaborated in a soft voice, and had a facial expression of shock, as she was making certain connections to herself in the moment, that she didn't even realize.
Josh's eyes widened in shock as well, "Wow... I was not expecting a self-actualized, come-to-jesus self-analysis from someone like you Ella. Were you bitter that your disqualification saved him? Did he thank you regarding saving him from being a lame pre-merger? And did you two speak after the season?"
She shook her head no, "I was not bitter at all about my disqualification saving him, and a decent part of me was relieved when I was disqualified. The show did do some damage to my spine, and the environment was becoming too toxic to bare, not only from a social and psychological standpoint, but from a physical and mental one as well. Max did not speak to me after he was disqualified, so he didn't thank me for sparing him or anything. Throughout the years, Max went out of his way to avoid me, and I think it's because he knew I saw through his "evil" fairytale persona he created for himself. After a while, I gave up on reaching out to him, but wished him best from a distance."
"Alright, let's move onto another weird person, but who was actually an early boot. Did you have any sort of dealings with Rodney on the show? Or in general throughout the last 7 years?"
Rodney's picture was placed, and she started to chuckle, "He was another person I felt bad for, since he went through some serious trauma that he told some of us, which I didn't learn until a lot later. He did mention the loss of his mother, and how much it caused delayed growth when we were at the resort. Rodney thought that flirting was the only way he could talk to women, and when were both eliminated, he had a meltdown about why no one was speaking to him. I had to tell him that he made others feel uncomfortable, and that caused him to break down and cry, since Rodney just wasn't socially aware enough. We watched so many romance and Disney films together throughout our time on the yacht, and we became good friends at the time. It was a shame what happened to him."
Josh became intrigued, "What did happen to him? I don't keep up with irrelevant early boot fodders on this cast to know."
Tears started coming out of her eyes, "Rodney... Rodney started hanging around with the wrong crowd. I am not going to throw people under the bus, but once someone from our cast got out of their... punishment, he gravitated to her, and distanced himself from a lot of us. Rodney found himself in some trouble, started arguing with folks, and was pretty manipulated. Instead of being Prince Phillip or Prince Charming, he became Gaston and Hans."
"So we discussed your relationship, or lack there of relationship with one twin, and now it's time to talk about the other twin," Josh introduced the next topic, while putting down her picture.
She had a neutral face, "I really liked Samantha when we interacted, which was not when either one of us were on the show. We were on different teams, and she had a lot of drama that caused for us to not speak. When I arrived, Samantha wanted to get to know people, and I already had some issues with Amy, so I wanted to hear her side of things. We did end up getting along, as we had a lot of the same interests in music, film, television, literature, and all of that. She definitely deals with trauma in a lot of the similar ways that I dealt with trauma, which I didn't even realize at the time, so it caused us to form a bond. The two of us would have all sorts of sleepovers during that time, and while Jasmine and I never had a conflict, I IMMEDIATELY saw a difference in Samantha's behavior when Jasmine arrived to the resort."
Josh definitely perked up at this, "Ooh, that sounds juicy. What happened, and what was the difference? You can't hold back now." He definitely intensified his eyes as he looked at her.
"I think due to her childhood, she never really knew how to have more than one friend, and I think something in her instinct caused for her to gravitate to Jasmine, and somewhat ignore everyone else. I don't even think she realized that was what she did, but I know a few people who felt the same way. We never had a fight, argument, or disagreement, and we are still friendly today, but it was rough. She and Jasmine did not like me dating David, and for the first time, I was questioning someone's motives, but they were trying to have my back at the end of the day. We hand out sometimes, text one another here and there, and are friendly, but we're not best friends."
He definitely felt a grin grow on his face, while he grabbed another picture, "There's definitely a lot more to Sammy and Jasmine's relationship than met the eye on the show, and I WILL get to the bottom of it. Anyways, I don't recall you ever dealing with Scarlett on the season. What was your experience with her?"
Ella's face immediately turned blank, as she saw the redhead's picture in front of her, and was trying to think, "I... when I think about it, we did not speak at all, or barely. There was one moment where I asked her questions about her relationship with Max, since a lot of the cast felt their chemistry, and wanted to hook her up. For some reason, I thought her twitching faces, fingers, and intense breathing was for some sort of exercise or performance. Scarlett talked to me in a voice that was like mine, where she said that there is nothing between her and Max, and that she would have to take helium like I do, in order to even consider the thought... It took me a while to realize that it was an insult. Scarlett ended up becoming worse than a Disney villain, and everything started coming together. Due to that, she was sequestered in the reserve and was watched by the police, since they took her away almost immediately after her boot episode. We didn't speak, but then she got involved with Rodney, and EVERYONE in the cast told him to stay away from her, so she started lashing out at all of us, and tried to sabotage our businesses and jobs."
"Shawn was on your team, so I would expect you to have interacted with him quite a bit on the show, but he didn't really speak to many people on the show in general, so I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't speak to you much either," he somewhat rambled, as he handed Ella a picture of the winner.
She gave a small smile as she saw his picture, "I actually felt bad for Shawn during our time together on "Pahkitew Island". He was traumatized by so much that happened in his life up to that point, where he created this... not persona, but this zombie monger thing in his mind, and created a lot of conspiracy theories. It's ironic that people claim that a lot of our cast made things up, but Shawn really did believe some of the stuff that he claimed was true, and created in his mind, but wasn't based on reality. We would have some nice conversations, where I would try to get to know him, and to have him let his guard down, but it was SO HARD to do, and he just shut down every time. I found his relationship with Jasmine to be cute, but he only told me much about it after I was heartbroken by Dave, and he came to check up on me. We had a lengthy conversation about heartbreak, and how he was going through that with Jasmine. I really appreciated him for that cheer up, and telling me more about his vulnerable traumas regarding relationships."
Josh raised his eyebrows and lips, "Hmmmph I am shocked that he not only opened up to you, but went out of his way to lift your spirits up. Did you two have much communication after the show?"
"Not really, I would be lying if I said we did. Whenever we were at "Total Drama" events, or met up as a cast, he was always nice to me, and we would have some conversations here and there, but we did not hang out or speak after that. Dave and I were dating at the time, and there was a lot of awkwardness between the two of them. Dave felt like Shawn was forced to ignore him, since Jasmine did not like him. I did not want to get in the middle of the drama. After we broke up, I was just focusing on me, and Shawn did reach out to me a few times, where we had some nice conversations, and I have hung out to meet with him more often in recent years. I would say we are more than acquaintances, but not close or best friends."
"Now moving onto the other finalist, I remember you and Sky having a crush on Dave at the same time on the season, but it didn't turn into a nasty catfight like the other triangles from the two previous generations," Josh spoke as he got the picture of Sky to put on the table. "Was that your only interaction with her? And how did you not know they had feelings for one another?"
Ella looked at the picture, and gave a small smile, "Sky and I did get along during the season, and the one thing we both bonded over was being feminists. It didn't make it on the show, but we did speak about not liking it when women go against one another, and the catty stuff was not our thing. It was why there was not any tension between her and I with that whole Dave situation on the show. Sky told me a lot about her tribe, and her experiences as a Native Canadian, which really interested me, and we both bonded about loving the outdoors, and our connection to animals. I was unaware that she liked Dave, since it seemed like her attention was in different places, like the competition, and what turned out to be a boyfriend, which I didn't know until after we finished the season. We were friends on the show."
Josh noted her last sentence, and wanted to stir it up, "What about after the show? You only mentioned that the two of you were friends on the show, and said it in past tense. And how did she react to the news about you and Dave dating?"
She sighed, and almost immediately started tearing up, "We... we did not speak, for a... very long time. I would try to reach out to her after the show, but she did not entertain me. We promised to never argue over a guy, so we never had a fight, but I felt bad that she was hurt by us dating, though I fought off dating Dave for so long, since I did not want to hurt her. It became more awkward going to group events due to this, and I was told that she was dating her boyfriend at the time, but it apparently was not true. She and I did not speak for years, even after Dave and I broke up, though I still tried to speak to her. When we finally DID speak, she told me how much she liked and loved me as a person, though the elephant in the room was ignored. I guess we're in a good place, but the big... thing that bothered her was never addressed."
He only shook his head once the next person showed up in his collage, "This one COMPLETELY BEWILDERS me, as Sugar is the main person we saw you speak to or about on the show. How did you have NO IDEA that she did not like you, and you thought that you were friends? I can't even say that's naive on your part. When someone shows you who you are, BELIEVE THEM THE FIRST TIME."
"Oh my goodness... Looking back, I really wanted to be liked by everyone, and never got the concept of not being liked by someone. I think that's partially because I saw all of these classy women on movies and shows, who had everyone like them, and saw the best in everyone. What I liked about Sugar is that she appreciated the arts, and I'm a very artsy person as well, so I wanted to connect with her on that. Outside of the twins, who I didn't get a chance to bond with on the show, Sugar and I were the most girly girls on the season, so I wanted us to have a connection about that. Sugar had... some insecurities that she didn't deal with at the time of the show, but when anyone else would mention it, she didn't react well to it. Every single person has their insecurities, and acknowledging that is a good thing. In my mind, I always created excuses for why she did the thing she did, and I WANTED to believe in the positive, and that there was nothing bad going on. While a part of me was... tricking myself into thinking we were close friends, I also didn't realize how much she... LOATHED me," she explained, getting more choked up and emotional as she recapped.
He didn't know how to take her, "But Sugar physically assaulted you several times, laughed at you when you were getting physically harmed, got you disqualified from the show, and showed NO remorse for anything she did to you. She accused you of being a complete fake. You had NO reaction to ANY of it, and you honestly looked like a fool. Your cast didn't react to reality, and it was why most of the audience and producers could not connect with you as a group at all."
Ella immediately grabbed some tissues to wipe her eyes, and her voice started to crack, "I've NEVER dealt with such cruelty in my life. I've had some trauma happen to me before, but it took me a while to... to... analyze, and... realize what happened. As I was at the elimination resort, and people continued to tell me the things she said or were continuing to say, I didn't want to deal with the negativity. When she was eliminated, I think Sugar was shocked that I didn't approach her at all, since I wanted to protect my bubble, and I refused to give her an energy. We went our separate ways, but then watching the show back was very triggering, and then she tried to spread malicious lies about myself, David, and my friendship with Leonard. As the season was airing, not only did the cast start to dislike her more, but the general viewing audience hated her as well. For some reason, she blamed me for that, and she tried to confront me about it during the wrap party for our season. Security had to get involved, and she tried attacking me a few other times. I... I... I had to get a restraining order from her after the spinoff, and she was banned from all "Total Drama" events. Even with all of that, I don't hate her, I don't dislike her, and I hope she gets the healing and help she needs."
"Alrighty, and last but... definitely the least is Topher, who spoke to no one from what we were shown on the episodes. You were the last person eliminated before him, though there was a 2 episode gap between your boots. Did you speak to him AT ALL on the show?"
She saw his picture, and had a neutral reaction, "Topher didn't really speak to anyone on the show, since he was so focused on the production side of things. When we did speak during the game, it was about popular culture stuff, and there was a glimmer of excitement in him, that we didn't get from him with anything else. When we were both eliminated, I saw how fun he was, and he really created many ways for us to be entertained, and he even asked me to help plan a lot of the programs and activities he did. Topher is really good at makeup, and even helped me with using the right content and amount during my brief time as a recording artist. We started doing a lot of double dates, and hung out quite a bit. Once you get to know Topher, he is a really charismatic, funny, wholesome person, and he did learn quite a lot from his time on the show. It was just saddening that he didn't let the audience and the cast get to know him when we were actually doing the season. He's a friend of mine."
Josh was happy that he didn't have to go over that cast anymore, "Thank goodness. Now I am interested in whether you speak to, or dealt with any of the people from the other two generations?"
"I do speak to quite a lot of them. Bridgette is one of my best friends from the show in general, and so is Dawn. The three of us hang out quite a lot, and talk about our love for animals, the environment, and veganism. I've obviously dealt with Geoff because he's her husband, and we're fine. DJ is one of my closest male friends from the show, and we bond for a lot of the same reasons I've bonded with the people from above. Trent is someone who I've had many musical conversations with, and we've gotten close as well. Cody and Harold are also nice people as well. Beth is someone who I have gotten close with over time as well, and same with Katie, Sadie, and Lindsay. Zoey and Mike are also people who I have become friends with, and they really took me in with helping to deal with people who are not nice. Brick is mainly the other person who I deal with from the second cast."
"Alright, now we're getting to the end. The last stuff I like to ask every interviewee is what did they learn from their experience on the show, and what have they been up to over the years," he explained, before turning it to a question, "What have you learned from being on the show, and what have you been up to over the last 7 years?"
Ella let out a long sigh, before smiling to answer, "I learned that... not everyone is going to like you, not everyone is going to handle things the same way you do, and that's okay. Protecting your bubble, and psyche is the most important thing to me, in order for me to retain my positive mindset in life, and to do that, you really have to cut off the negative and draining people, but don't engage them with their negativity. Not everything is like a Disney film, and while I kind of knew that, I had to really accept that my mindset was also not the healthiest, with ignoring everything that is wrong. I didn't want to be a complete debbie downer, or someone who had no imagination, so I had to balance both sides of me. Since the show, I of course finished high school, but my elimination song became the first single of my first and only studio album, and I became a one album wonder. The music industry was not for me, since there is so much toxicity, scheming, backstabbing, and... other inappropriate stuff, so I moved onto Broadway, and have been doing that for 5 years now."
Josh got up to shake hands with her, "Wow, I have to say that I was not expecting to enjoy this interview as much as I have. You were honest and vulnerable, but didn't use it as an opportunity to rip into or bash others, which I can't say for everyone. I appreciate you for not holding back, and actually showing growth."
"Thank you too Joshuah. I really enjoyed the experience, and I hope this is prosperous for your future goals too. Take care everyone."
