"War! With the forces of darkness pressing in from the East of the West. America heeds the call to fight for freedom." A newsreel says on the computer of Steve Rodgers, Captain America, the soldier out of time. "And at the front of the fight, shoulder to shoulder with our battling boys, is Captain America, a product of old-fashioned values and exciting new science! Captain America is the name every Nazi feared. Leader of the secret organization known as the Justice Society of America. Uncle Adolf's secret new weapons were no match for our heroes. When tough times turn tougher when hopes are on the ropes, here's the man to knock the Axis on their backs. He's out there, fighting for the land that we love, and he won't stop-"
Steve stops the video and looks over the files of all of his friends from the old days who are all dead. Scrolling through the JSA files, he was sad to see he had outlived so many of his friends and family.
Rex Tyler, Hourman: DECEASED
Rex Tyler was a scientist who invented an hourglass that allowed him to gain super strength, speed, and agility for about an hour at a time. His serum actually was the stepping-stone that helped Abraham Erskine create the Super Soldier Serum to create him.
Sylvester Pemberton, Starman: DECEASED
He was once just some kid of some wealthy billionaires, but one day took it upon himself to save them from some criminals. That ended up leading him to a weapon known as the Cosmic Staff. A weapon that basically had to deem you worthy if you wished to wield it.
James Howlett: MIA
Now, this was a bit more difficult to explain. He didn't like to talk about his past, but he was a man with a strange mutation that ended up giving him knife-like bones coming out of his knuckles. He also had a healing factor that meant he could take a few shots and not even flinch from them.
But missing? You'd think that after all this time he would be labeled as deceased.
Red Tornado: ACTIVE
Red Tornado is an android that he had met and was created a long time before the Super Soldier or Hourman was a thought. He could manipulate wind using his...science babble that Steve couldn't even begin to comprehend.
Diana Prince, Wonder Woman: ACTIVE
Diana Prince. Princess of Themiscyra. Diana of Themiscyra was born of her mother's strong desire for a child, a lump of clay brought to life in the form of a girl; the perfect Amazon, as she was born of no man. Following a training session, Diana happened to come across Captain Steve Rogers during his escape from the Imperial German Army in the ongoing Great War. A battle soon followed, as the Germans tracked Rogers to Themyscira, where they invaded in pursuit of Doctor Poison's notes. She joined Steve in his efforts to stop the war and later would join Steve in the JSA.
Steve couldn't help but smile when he saw that Diana wasn't not only still around but was also still fighting. He remembered the last thing he told her before he took Doctor Poison's plane and crashed it into the ice to save millions.
Alan Scott, Green Lantern: DECEASED
Alan Scott and Jimmy Henton, his partner, were traveling aboard a train together. The train would pass over a bridge that Alan designed; he recently outbid a rival engineer named Albert Dekker for that bridge contract, but a bomb exploded beneath the bridge derailing the train. Everyone on board was killed in the explosion: everyone but Alan Scott. When Alan woke up, he tried to save the dying Jimmy, who pointed out to him the presence of a strange green light among the wreckage.
With this fantastic new power under his command, Alan set out to help people find their way through the darkness.
Carter Hall, Hawkman: DECEASED
Kendra Saunders, Hawkgirl: DECEASED
Carter Hall, or as he used to go by...Prince Khufu. Prince Khufu lived during the reign of Ramesses II in the 19th dynasty of ancient Egypt. Khufu believed that his ka, or soul, would not journey on to the land of the afterlife. Rather, his soul and that of his betrothed, Chay-Ara, Kendra Saunders, was fated to remain in the mortal world. And that's what happened when a meteor strike ended their lives as well as the man known as Vandal Savage.
But he's a story for another day.
T'Chanda, Black Panther: DECEASED
In 1941, Captain America traveled to Wakanda and encountered the Black Panther, the then-king Azzuri, who was defending his country by seemingly hunting and killing almost every newcomer for sport, having already decapitated several Nazi troopers and pinned their heads on spears. Seeing both Americans and Germans as potential threats to his country, Azzuri refused to work with Rogers at first and ordered him to leave, but eventually trusted him after the two fought.
Looking over the files, Steve was sorry to see that his good friend T'Chanda had passed. But he was happy to see he had a long and happy life and even had children of his own. Across from children to grandchildren with the current king of Wakanda T'Challa.
Amaya Jiwe: DECEASED
Amaya Jiwe is a former member of the Justice Society of America known as Vixen. While serving, Amaya would grow very homesick and often worry about the safety of her village without her there to protect it. Amaya fell in love with Rex Tyler and even planned to leave the JSA once the war was over.
But that didn't end the way they wanted. He died the same day that Steve went down into the ice after a fatal incident.
Steve takes a stroll and is still getting used to everything that's become different since his days. He then comes across the newly developed and soon-to-open STARK Tower. Taking a seat outside the café, he begins to draw the tower, with nothing else to really do.
A waitress walks over with a smile and refills his coffee. "Waiting on the big guy?"
"Ma'am?" Steve asks, not understanding what she means.
"Iron Man." She gestures to the tower. "A lot of people eat here just for the chance to see him."
Steve shrugs and reaches for his wallet. "Maybe another time."
"Table's yours as long as you like. Nobody's waiting on it." She promises him before walking away. "Plus, we've got free wireless."
"Radio?" Steve asks, not understanding Wi-Fi yet.
Then an elderly man who Steve saw reminded him of someone he knew in the old days turned to face him. "Ask her for her phone number, you moron."
Steve isn't feeling like getting into a relationship right now and leaves it to be. After a while of staring up at the tower, he then leaves for the gym to try and clear his mind.
Steve was taking a lot of emotions he has been feeling on the punching bag: Getting flashbacks to everything that's happened to him over the years in World War ll, sacrificing his life to save the world, being found and thawed out of the ice. He then suddenly uses too much strength and sends the punching bag flying across the room. Panting in exhaustion, he was snapped out of his fantasy of being back in his
"Trouble sleeping?" A familiar voice called in a familiar accent.
Steve smiled as he looked over to the door and sees the woman he loves.
She was tall and fair-skinned with straight waist-length black hair, blue eyes, and broad shoulders. She is sporting a slender and athletic frame with a well-toned yet muscular build. She wore a casual sundress, something that Steve never thought that he would see on her in his lifetime. But to be fair, the last that he saw her, it was still the middle of the war. Aside from her was a man wearing a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform that he couldn't help but feel like he knows.
"Diana," Steve said as he walked over to her.
"Steve." Diana sighed in joy as she ran up to him.
The two met in the middle as they pulled one another close and gave a passionate kiss. They haven't seen one another for 70 years, and even though it was just a moment for him, it was a lifetime for her.
Diana then broke it off and looked over at Steve. "You're back."
"Well...I couldn't leave you waiting. I promised you a dance." Steve reminded her.
"That dance is going to have to wait." The man said as he walked up to Steve. "It's good to see you again, Captain. It's John Smith."
Steve was a little confused as he looked over the man to see if it jogged any memories. "I'm sorry, have we met?"
"Not like this," John said as a hologram shuts down and John takes the appearance of a tall red robot with no ears or nose. His mouth and eye sockets are black giving him the appearance of an emotionless robot. He has a yellow T symbol on his chest and a yellow arrow on his forehead. He also wears a blue cape that goes over his head like a cloak. "Remember me now, Captain?"
"Tornado?" Steve was surprised to see him.
"I am happy that you recognize me, Rogers," John said to him. "And I am sorry to say, we didn't come here specifically to socialize. Even though we wish we did."
"Fury thought it was best you settled into the 21st century before seeing a few ghosts of your past," Diana explained why they stayed away. "As soon as they confirmed they found you, I wanted to run here."
"She just about did," John admitted.
"So, what are you doing here?" Steve asks the two.
"A mission," Diana said as she gave Steve the file Fury gave them. "A rogue government facility has been spotted in the mountains of Alberta, Canada, near the town of Roanoke."
"What's there?" Steve asked as he looked over a file.
"Something that goes by the name of Weapon X. We're not sure what it is exactly, that's what we're supposed to go find out," Diana explains to him. "The mission is yours if you want it."
Steve looked down and over to the case he brought with him that carried his shield within it. "Let's get to work."
