Yo!
A little late but I'm here. I received a lot of good feedbacks from all of you so thank you! We finally passed the 100k word, I m so glad about it!
There were a lot of reviews, so I will try to answer shortly so it doesn't take too much space:
Iamshinydragonmist: Thanks! And here you are, hope u ll like it.
ARWilliams: Thanks, his growth is the thing I wanted to show the most, I'm glad I didn't mess it up!
CaskettFan5: There it is ;) Luck is a big word when he got attacked by an unknown deadly creature lmao. Yeah Dumbledore had a talk with Snape, he tries to behave.
Hank1967: Thank you for all your reviews, made me really happy. About Sadye, well I can't say too much but we all he does.
Mark1: Yeah honestly I had that random idea while rewatching the movie and found it could be interesting. However as I said in previous chapter, he doesn't exactly "copy" a spell, he make it his own, so the range is not really a problem.
Sanbeegoldiewhitey: Tbh it's not the point of the story, BUT it's not excluded that Harry would ask him if he learns about the nature of her issue.
InfinityMask: First of all, thank you for all your reviews! About the Chamber, it could probably yeah, but Merlin is an original man he wouldn't like to just copy someone else, even his master, or not too much at least. About Sadye, I wanted to make him disappear before but it was more convenient with the spy thing yeah. As for why he didn't ask Dobby, 2 reasons actually, one he did not really care so much and the second was that Crouch is supposedly a judge of the Triwizard so he feared his friend would get in trouble. For Voldie tho, I feel he's too proud to have someone equal to him, but we never know what will happen.
ONCE AGAIN GREAT THANKS TO WEBSTRIKER WHO WENT THROUGH THE CHAPTER AND CORRECTED IT!
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
Harry had changed a lot. Ron knew it, but at first he thought it came from the fact that Harry was distant from him after he left him. However, now Ron knew better, their friendship was not damaged at all. In fact, Harry's changes had started way before, since the first of September or even a little before. The changes were not huge, rather it was something progressive. Little things by littles things, and by now even people who did not know him well would know he had changed.
Ron did not mind that much, since he knew he changed too. During his time away from his best friend, he thought a lot. Not only about his issue with him but also about himself. He started interrogating himself because he knew deep down that Harry was not responsible for the Triwizard fiasco. He knew it but still felt jealous of him, that was the main reason he decided to take his distance with his dorm mate. He hated himself for that fact, he felt jealous of his best friend for something he knew Harry hated. Ron was ashamed of it. Ashamed to face his friend with those feelings. That was why he decided to sort his feelings first before coming back.
It took a long time, and the timing of him coming back was the worst. Just after the end of the first task, but Harry did not mind. At this moment, Ron understood his best friend had changed, and he decided to do the same. First of all, his jealousy. He needed to dampen it and found something to help him with that. Every time he felt like that about Harry he would just think about all the bad things that happened to the latter, and he would quickly feel grateful for what he already had.
He quickly got better at handling things and the second thing he wanted to improve went better too; his temperament. He decided to not take things personally like he always did, he detached himself from what was happening. It helped a lot, however there was a time his patience got put under a lot of pressure, the Yule Ball. When he saw Hermione with Viktor Krum, he was utterly shocked.
Coming back to Harry, Ron felt that his changes were not that consequent until the second task. He was not awake when it happened, but he heard that a weird creature appeared during the task, and injured Harry. He also heard that the latter had saved the hostages life, including himself, and bought enough time for Professor Dumbledore to take care of it. Despite all of that, instead of feeling happy, Harry was in a sort of depression, when he first woke up in the infirmary, he did not seem different at all, however after that day, his entire mood changed. He was always gloomy, did not eat a lot, and always disappeared, and even started ditching all his lessons. Ron, Hermione and their Slytherin friends still met without him, but the atmosphere was different. It was normal since he was the one who brought everyone together.
The awkwardness quickly flew away and Ron had found a really good friend in Tracey, she seemed to have the same interest as him, and was not lousy at chess, at least better than Astoria was. It was that trio that made the awkwardness disappear, Hermione and Daphne hardly involved themselves with them three and instead decided to talk among themselves, just like that, the group's new dynamic was installed, without Harry.
Sure, they all noticed how their common friend acted after their meeting in the infirmary, and often asked themselves if anyone had an idea of why he became like that. There were some hypotheses, but no real answer since no one wanted to ask him, his foul mood did not leave any room for questions. Ron actually came with the more realistic hypothesis, saying that Harry was most likely feeling depressed because his helplessness when the creature appeared, everyone agreed and also agreed upon the fact that it was a stupidly Harry thing to do when he had in fact saved their lives.
Even though Ron proposed that theory, he was the one who believed in it the least, in fact he did not believe it at all. He knew his friend, maybe more than everyone, he also knew about the fact that Harry trained himself, even before Hermione did; he did not say anything because Harry told him not to when he wanted to bring up the wandless magic, plus he understood that Harry felt the need to become better, his entire life was a series of life-threatening event. Ron did take part in most of them and understood they only survived through pure and insane luck. Harry just did not want to leave his life between the hands of the hazard. Ron knew that the creature's attack did not make Harry that depressed, it could have made him train even more, but not fall into despair, that was not something Harry usually did, he was too brave. It would have taken something a lot worse to discourage him like that. Ron did not know what, but decided he should not interfere, not now, that was the reason why he told the others about the theory, so they would not bother Harry too much with questions. He knew how inquisitive Hermione was, and according to Harry, Daphne was at least at the same level.
"It has been some time since he's with Professor Dumbledore." Ron sighed, leaning on his bed. "Well, I guess they need to talk a lot; that Crouch story is honestly weird."
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
Chaos was not paying any attention to Harry at the moment. He had better things to do, like investigating what exactly happened with that Hecatonchire. He honestly could not understand how it could have just appeared in the lake right at the moment Harry was in it. That made no sense to him, and even after thinking and observing for so long he still had no more clues. The only thing he was sure of was the fact that it could not have been here before the second task.
"Couldn't have been those two, I already checked." He said to himself. "The third one is dead, and the rest of their crew are dead, since they're unique existence, they don't…"
Chaos interrupted himself and the air around him seemed to become heavier, that was a common occurrence when he was thinking really hard, or just was really angry.
"Of course!" He exclaimed himself. "Hecatonchires aren't unique beings so that's why! Still doesn't explain how it got here, and who sent it…"
"At least now I know where to look." He sighed. "What a headache; it would be easier to find a pin in a haystack."
"Ah, damn it, it's not like I have anything else to do anyway."
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
Dumbledore who at first looked resigned and sad, had now a bewildered expression on his face. Harry witnessed the change in his headmaster's expression and immediately knew that the countless theories the old man came up with, disappeared to only one or two, and not the best one according to his expression.
Chaos said it wouldn't be a problem. He tried to reassure himself. Then why Dumbledore is reacting like that. A little voice at the back of his head maliciously said.
"Professor?" Seeing that his elder did not answer yet, Harry tried again. "Am I going to be alright?" He did not intend it to happen, but his voice broke by the end of his sentence, and that seemed to wake his headmaster up.
"Harry, before anything else, are you completely sure about what you just said?" He walked towards his desk and started rummaging through the piles of papers.
"Yes Professor, there's definitely something inside me that doesn't belong here. I'm a hundred percent sure of it."
"Not about that Harry." He took something out and came back to where Harry was standing. "I am asking you about that." He brandished a worn-out diary with a hole on his cover, Harry immediately recognized it. It was Tom Riddle's diary.
Harry gulped at the sight. "Yes."
Professor Dumbledore slowly made his way to his chair and sat quietly, joining his hand to support his face.
It seems too serious, did Chaos lie to me? Harry felt his panic level rise. Why would he? He doesn't gain anything from it, plus he never lied to me before, and when I thought he was he proved me wrong. Maybe he just knows better than Dumbledore.
Harry did not really believe that, for him Dumbledore represented the pinnacle of what a wizard could be. Sure, as a human being he had shortcomings just like everyone else, and maybe even more, but as a wizard, Harry did not see any.
"Harry, I told you before that you would be the first one to know if I learned something about the diary. And I intend to do just that, so bear with me."
Harry gulped audibly, dreading what was to come. He remembered the conversation they had in his office earlier that year.
"You see, until today, I had a lot of conjectures about what exactly the diary was." He sighed deeply. "And one of them was so disgusting that I almost disregarded it, maybe it was because I hoped Lord Voldemort…" He became quiet for a second. "No, I hoped young Tom would not fall that low."
"I hoped that maybe, you could live normally." He murmured.
But Harry heard everything, and his breathing became heavier, however he did not hear himself breathing. The only thing he was hearing right now was the sound of his heart pounding inside him, so hard that it hurt his eardrums, so hard that he thought his heart was going to explode.
"What do you mean?" Harry's voice was low, but with how quiet the headmaster's office was, Dumbledore had no problem catching what the young Gryffindor said.
"If I'm not wrong, Professor Moody taught you about the Unforgivables, am I right."
Harry nodded, the hair all over his body stood at once. He did not like the direction it was going. That reminded him of something Chaos said about the Unforgivables, and it terrified him.
"What he most likely did not teach you is the origin of these curses, or more precisely their areas of work if I may say. They act on one's soul."
Harry felt like he got knocked out, he was in a state where he was present, but not entirely. It was as if he was seeing the action from outside, looking at his body falter when he heard the news he feared.
"You most likely gathered something from what I just said but let me elaborate." He said in a sad voice. "The Imperius curse deprives one's soul from its free will. The Cruciatus curse inflicts pain in one's soul, not his body, that is why no medicine works against it."
"The Death curse is the most abject curse I know. I say that despite knowing dark magic that could eat someone's inside or burn and regrow every nail of a body endlessly. Do you know why?"
Harry shook his head.
"Do you remember my friend I told you about in your first year, Nicholas Flamel? I am sure you do, and you most certainly remember his profession. He was an alchemist. Now in alchemy the first thing you learn, and the most important one, is called the Law of Equivalent Exchange. Have you ever heard about it?"
Once again Harry shook his head, he did not, but could take a guess, the name being as explicit as it was.
"I will not get into detail, but roughly it says that in order to obtain something, you must give something of the same value. And the Death curse is using that principle, and why I find it so disgusting. You take a soul, and you give something in return, your soul."
Harry was destabilized, that made no sense, why would anyone give their soul to kill someone, it was suicide and murder at the same time.
"I can see that you are puzzled, so I will clarify. As you can imagine no one would want to kill and die at the same time, but that is where the curse is tricky. You do not need to die to give your soul, just like you do not have a wizard soul in your hands after you use the curse. So, in order to make a soul disappear, you have to damage your own. And let me tell you, a damaged soul is far worse than death; that is why it is considered by magic as an equivalent exchange."
"Now, only the worst remains." Dumbledore sighed once again. "So, as I said, using that curse causes damage to your own soul, and a long time ago, a dark mage who was really gifted in magic and in the brain, thought of a way to use that. You may have heard of him two years ago, that man was called Herpo the Foul and bred the first Basilisk ever recorded."
That name was familiar with Harry but nothing more, his mind was hazy, and his eyes lost their focus, he just stood there waiting for what would come next.
"You see, every dark wizard is apparently afraid of the same thing, death. Herpo the Foul was not an exception and so was Voldemort who if I am right used the thing Herpo created to ensure his safety. It's called a Horcrux."
"A Horcrux is a fragment of someone's soul stored in an inanimate object to prevent its owner's death. It is made by fragmenting his soul with the use of the Death curse. From my research, the diary was one, and you are."
"You said inanimate object…"
"Yes, it is what I gathered from the books on that matter, but it seems that they were wrong." It was only because he was so out of it that Harry did not drop on the floor. "Fortunately, it also seems that Voldemort is not aware of the fact that you are one. The fact that he tried to kill you when you were a baby, and in your first year, tends to make me think that way."
And then something weird happened.
"I am sorry Harry." That simple sentence woke Harry up from his dazed state immediately, he could not understand why his headmaster was apologizing to him right now. He looked at him and saw tears flowing freely on Professor Dumbledore's wrinkled face. "I know you had your file of bad news for an entire life, but unfortunately it does not end here, I have one more. One that I knew way before the Horcrux issue."
Harry already hit rock bottom, and hearing that could not make him feel worse, so he just sighed and decided to accept what was coming.
"A prophecy was made. Before you were born, I heard a real prophecy from someone, and it said that."
Harry readied himself.
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies..."
This time Harry was not out of it, he heard clearly and understood perfectly what his headmaster said. And when he was done, his body lost its strength. His knees just gave up to gravity and he ended up on the floor, his face deeply inside his hands. "I'm going to die…" He was saying to himself. "No, I'm already dead." Dumbledore was looking at him sadly, he moved himself to the ground to help his student back up.
"Harry, a prophecy is just a prophecy, words told by human beings. You are not bound by it—"
"Half of it has already happened Professor."
"Harry, it happened only because Lord Voldemort heard a part of it. It happened because he, who was afraid of death, paid attention to a prophecy foretelling his own. Do you think if he had not heard of it he would have acted this way?"
"You mean that he killed my parents and tried to kill me, because of that prophecy." Harry's anger started flowing, quickly dissipating all the desperation he was feeling seconds ago.
Dumbledore sadly nodded. "You see, in a way, it was my fault. I was doing an interview with someone who was after a teacher position in Hogsmeade, and this is where that someone made the prophecy. As we were in the middle of a war, spies were everywhere, and because of my hubris, I thought no one could spy on me, I was not on my guard, and someone was able to hear a part of the prophecy before fleeing."
A moment of silence passed.
"Why me? There is no way I was the only one to be born at the end of July with parents who defied Voldemort three times, so why me?" When he was finishing his sentence, he already had his answer, there were a lot of conditions, and now that he said it himself, it narrowed tightly the possibilities.
"There was indeed another candidate if I may say, however as I mentioned before, Voldemort chose you. Maybe because your parents' defiance was higher than the others, or maybe he did not even remember who else defied him. The point being that he chose you and marked you as his equal." Dumbledore pointed to his scar.
"Who was the spy? Did you catch him? Is he in Azkaban?"
"I do know his identity, but for your sake I will not disclose it to you." He said calmly.
"Why? You think I won't be able to take my revenge?"
"The exact opposite in fact. Harry, I know you want to avenge your parents, trust me I know." His face was full of sorrow, as if he was remembering a bad memory. "The path of revenge only leads to emptiness, a feeling of being incomplete."
After a moment of silence, Harry answered him. "You're wrong though, I'm not doing it to avenge my parents. I didn't even know their faces before eleven, and was told that they were drunkards dead in a car accident." Dumbledore's face became even more sad. "Don't misunderstand me, I love them, and I know they loved me, they died to save my life after all. However, the thing I want to take revenge on, is the fact that now I'm a Horcrux, a soul shard of the man who killed my parents lives in me. I'm already incomplete, revenge wouldn't change anything." Harry took a deep breath. "That's why. But I can understand your point, and you have experienced many things that I did, or not, so I will trust you on this." His voice sounded weird, but he could not point exactly how so he decided to not focus on it.
"Thank you Harry." The Headmaster looked relieved, thinking he gave up on the man who destroyed his life. However, Harry knew that Dumbledore was a stubborn man, he would not let Harry kill a man for the sake of revenge, so he decided to lie, and bid his time. Something awakened in him, just like a fire, for the first time he actually wanted to kill someone, and it was not Voldemort.
"So, how do we get rid of the Horcrux?" Once again the weird voice.
"… Harry, are you alright?"
"Of course, crying about my fate won't do me any good." He said. "To get rid of Voldemort, we have to destroy the Horcrux inside me right?"
"Actually… That was something I had to tell you before talking about the prophecy. There are no records of anyone making more than one Horcrux. And as you have one, and the diary was one…"
"He could have made a billion of them…" Harry murmured.
"Fortunately, no. He cannot. As I said before, splitting your soul is something inherently disgusting but also extremely dangerous. It needs stability and doing it too much would just reduce one's soul to nothing. But yes, he could have made more than two, and we have to find and destroy them before thinking about yours."
"They could be anywhere."
"They could, but I do not think so. Take his diary for example, he gave it to one of his most devoted followers, Lucius Malfoy." He interrupted himself momentarily. "Let me take care of their location and numbers, you should go back and rest. Hearing all of this in one night is not by any means easy."
"Alright." Contrary to what he thought, Harry was a lot calmer than he was at first, the desperation left his mind, the anger too, the only thing he felt now was a big fire raging in his heart, while leaving the office.
"Harry." Dumbledore's voice came from behind him. "Please keep everything we just discussed to yourself, I only told you because it concerned you and because you have good mind protection. Such information, if caught by someone with bad intention, could reach Voldemort and ruin our only advantage. The fact that he does not know that we know about his Horcruxes. Do not make the same error I did."
Harry turned and left without any other words.
I'm not going to die. Just wait and see.
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
Harry found his best friend lying on his bed, he immediately opened his eyes when Harry came.
"Took you long enough." He said to him. "I thought––"
He interrupted himself for a moment when he met Harry's eyes.
"Are you okay mate?" The emerald-eyed boy tilted his head, not understanding where the question came from.
"Yeah of course, what's going on?"
Ron looked even more disturbed. "Did you do something to your voice?"
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know how to describe it, but it's definitely yours. But like it's your voice when you're sad but it's also the same as when you caught your first snitch, also the same as when you talk about Snape…" He looked confused. "Argh! I don't know anymore, it's so weird. Is that one of the twins' inventions?"
Harry shook his head, too dazed to answer with a sentence. If he was to believe what Ron just said, he had the same weird tone as Chaos, the indescribable one. He could not understand where it came from, he was with his friends the whole day and his voice was normal, now that he came back from Dumbledore's office his voice changed. Wait, I'm sure my voice was weird at some point when talking to Professor Dumbledore. When exactly did it happen… Oh right, when I said I would not look after the spy…
"Still there mate?" Ron's voice interrupted his musing.
"Yeah sorry, I'm just exhausted. About my voice, I don't really know, maybe it's what they call puberty." Harry tried to joke his way out of it.
Ron either bought it or just did not bother because he laughed.
"Alright, I'll let you get your beauty sleep now. G'night."
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
"Oh, you're here. Tonight, we'll see how to expand your core. Don't want to see you without any power after throwing two or three spells."
"Wait, something happened." Chaos looked at him. "My voice. It became like yours. It happened when I was talking with Dumbledore earlier. Any idea of why?"
"Hmm. I didn't think it would happen that soon. To be honest I wasn't even sure it would happen at all." He rubbed his chin. "I didn't have a look at your conversation with your headmaster. I was… busy."
Harry knew it was useless to ask him what could make him busy in a prison, he would just ignore him.
"But I can imagine that you were overwhelmed by strong feelings. A huge rush of feelings in one go if you prefer. Your mental protection being fueled by your magic without any help, they did not break. However, the huge amount of feelings overflowed from the ball of memories, leaked in the nothingness, and plastered themselves on the border of your mind. It's only the emotions mind you, the memories are kept safe. That's what makes your voice leak with mixed emotion at the same time. It's permanent and is only working that way thanks to my mind protection skill by the way."
"Isn't that dangerous? I mean the emotion leaked, couldn't they break my mental barrier?"
"Don't worry about this, it's more another layer of protection than anything else. They are just emotions, devoid from any memories, if someone tries to enter your mind now, they would have to pass that layer that can misdirect anyone."
"So, no. Not dangerous. What makes me curious though is the strong feelings you felt. From experience I know that it would have to be something big, really big."
"Horcruxes." Harry didn't meet his eyes.
"I see." Chaos chapped his hands. "Alright, now let's talk about your core and the best way to make it grow."
"You're not going to say anything about it?"
Chaos sighed. "Kid, I told you, it's not going to affect you for the time being. If you want to get rid of it, you have to surpass that Voldi-poo magically. And the best way to do it is to expand your core. Only after we can talk about it."
"What do I need to do?"
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
Weeks passed smoothly for Harry who still trained as hard as before. He had found new goals to achieve, the first one was to kill the spy Professor Dumbledore and the second was to surpass his archnemesis. Both of them were unbelievably hard feats but Harry did not care. He knew that the spy had lived through a war, and should be a battle-trained wizard but that did not make Harry want to kill them less.
About Voldemort, Harry asked more questions. Because the latter had decades of training when it came to battle, Harry knew the day was not near when he would have had a chance to face him. Fortunately, Chaos reassured him, telling that he was only talking about surpassing him by his magic capacity, not skills or whatsoever.
He decided to keep on his training with the Lockhart inspired spell, before going on with the magical core training, thinking it would take too much time. At first Harry was struggling because he could only do it partially. After some time, Chaos, apparently irritated that he lost so much time with something that 'easy', so he gave him a clue.
"Why the hell are you always trying to visualize the insides? Are you a freaking veterinary surgeon? Just do what you did before!"
Harry took only three tries after his rant to make it work. He remembered that with the first spell he created he did not bother that much. He then understood something, the visualizing in magic was not to visualize how the spell would work in a given situation. It was a visualization and understanding of the effects of the spell; vanish meant to make disappear, that was all. There was no need to think about the anatomy of a rat. After his success, Harry saw Chaos smile widely and say something about void or something, but the euphoria he felt from his success made him quickly discard it.
After that, something clicked in Harry's mind and magic came more easily to him than it ever did before. However instead of trying to create new spells, he decided to listen to Chaos and grow his magical core.
According to Chaos, increasing the capacity of a magical core was an ancient training that no one did anymore because "wizards are lazy bums". And also because of its dangerousness, when he first heard that, Harry hesitated to keep going. If Chaos found something dangerous, it would be even more to him. However, his resolve and the fact that Chaos said it was only dangerous to people who tried to do it without any help, made him continue.
The first part of the training was to forcefully enlarge the core. Chaos said that a recurrent error that was made before, and made it dangerous was the fact that people tried to make their core overflow with the help of an external source of magic. What happened in those cases was that the core just broke under the pressure or simply exploded. The breaking made squibs and the explosion made corpses. As simple as that.
The method Chaos transmitted to him was something that sounded really easy. It was to push his own magic against the border of his core and enlarge it. The problem was that in reality, it was not easy at all, having learned how to meditate and channel his magic made him think it would be done in a day. However, just moving all the mass of magical power inside his core to forcefully make it grow was hard, and the enlargement in itself was even harder. So, he tried to take it step by step, first he would learn to move his magic within his core perfectly and then enlarge his core.
The first step took him a whole week to complete and if Harry was attentive enough, he would have noticed Chaos' slightly open mouth when he informed him about his success. The second part was harder, because no amount of talent of whatsoever would help, on the contrary, according to Chaos, a magically talented wizard had a less malleable core, because of its stability and was hence harder to make grow.
Harry had asked how much he needed to increase his core capacity, but Chaos did not answer him and simply motioned him to keep going. According to him, the next steps were to fill in the core and to 'merge' the magic already inside with the rest.
Today was the day where Chaos finally said to him that the enlarging was enough, and the core had doubled in volume after he did his best until the last week of May. He said to him to go back and sleep, but Harry felt weird, it was as if something was lacking. Chaos reassured him saying that it was only temporary, it came from his now half empty core.
The next day Harry decided to just enjoy his time with his friends. He knew he neglected them, especially his Slytherin friends. Hermione and Ron shared his classes, which he started to attend again, a Common Room, and for Ron even a dorm, it was hard to not see each other.
He knew Daphne resented him, he could tell it by the murderous gaze he was receiving from her from time to time. He wanted to apologize, but he knew it would happen again. He had no time to lose, a spy to kill and a madman to surpass. The fact that he did not feel anything else than glee when he thought about murdering someone made him waver a little, but he still did not change his mind about it.
"The weather is good; we should go to our spot by the lake." He told his friends while eating his new favorite breakfast, croissants.
His friends looked at him bewildered. They looked at each other in disbelief then at Harry again, as if they wanted to be sure they were not dreaming. Ron even put his hand against his forehead to see if he had temperature.
"Ha…Ha… So funny." He answered sarcastically.
"What is so funny?" A delicious scent came to caress his nostrils as he felt someone sit gracefully next to him. However, the perfume was not enough to cover the heavy French accent coming from the newcomer.
Everything became quiet around him, and he sighed deeply.
"That's too bad, I forgot. Now you can go back from where you were." He smiled sweetly to Fleur Delacour.
"No, I prefer funny to zem." She pointed to the Ravenclaw table with her polished finger. "Is zat a croissant? So, you do like French things."
"Never said the contrary. I thought it was clear by now, the only thing from France I don't like is you."
Hermione gasped audibly. "Harry, she is not a thing." She said indignantly.
A beautiful laugh came from the French stalker.
"See, I told you I preferred funny." She ruffled his hair and got up. "My sister wanted to thank you; we'll join you at your spot." She winked at him and made her way back to her table.
"Do not touch my hair." He shouted to her. "And you're not welcomed!"
Silence followed his declaration, a silence that was only broken by the sound of her heels and her laugh.
ΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩΩ
"I told you to not come." Harry said in an annoyed voice.
Fleur Delacour was standing in front of him, with something moving behind her legs. A blonde chevelure was visible so Harry guessed it was her sister.
"Dis is Gabrielle, my little sister. She has something to say." She pushed her sister in front of her. The kid was adorable, she was basically a ten-year-old Fleur. Her face was as red as Ron's hair, and she pulled her two tails in front of her face to hide herself.
Harry thought of a devil plan right on the spot.
"Of course, of course, come here Gabrielle, you can stay with us if you want." He took her gently by the hand and saw a victorious smile on her sister's face. His grin widened even more. With one hand he motioned the way to Gabrielle and with the other he took his wand out and led the kid to their picnic spot a few steps away.
Fleur looked at him warily for a moment but decided to follow them anyway.
"AÏE!" (A/N: French version of Ouch - indicate pain)
Harry looked back at the source of the cry with an angelic smile.
"Oh my! What could have happened? Why are you sitting on the ground here, the picnic spot is right here." He pointed to where their friends were sitting."
She looked at him murderously, got up and tried to follow him again. However, it was as if she was facing an invisible barrier. And it was exactly how it was. Harry's newest trick, he thought about it on the spot and tried it, and was overjoyed by the fact that he was so at ease with spell creation right now, the only problem was that the invisible barrier had only the proportion of a simple door. So, if Fleur decided to walk around, she could very much so.
And that's what she did. Harry sighed, defeated but still appreciated his little victory over that French woman. At the same time, he dissipated the magic, his Slytherin friends arrived. They all looked at Fleur and then Gabrielle who was still holding Harry's hand. Two of them smiled widely while the last made the good weather feel like a blizzard.
"Hi girls! You obviously know the Beauxbatons champion." He said carefully. "And this is her little sister, she wanted to thank me for the second task, you know she was a hostage. I was hoping the eldest would not come with her, but she insisted even after multiple rejection. I hope you don't mind…"
After a second Tracey and Astoria rushed to Gabrielle's side and started complimenting her about her hair and whatever. Harry did not pay attention as he was waiting for Daphne's reaction. Seeing that she did not move at all, he decided to apologize right here even if the French was here.
"I'm sorry, I know––"
He did not even complete his sentence that Daphne smiled brightly at him and went to sit with Ron and Hermione.
"You know she doesn't understand English right? She only speaks French." Fleur's voice from behind him, disappointing the two Slytherin who were now trying to speak French to Gabrielle.
The rest of the day passed peacefully as they talked about everything, even with Fleur at Harry's greatest deception. Gabrielle, who could not follow any discussion, was either glued to Harry's side or letting Astoria and Tracey make her hair. Harry noticed something changed within his group of friends, they seemed more at ease with each other, he knew it was because he left them for some time, and even if the reason was not a good one, the conclusion was great.
Harry tried to apologize to his friends for his 'disappearance', but they all brushed him aside, and Daphne even threatened to hit him with her wand if he continued. When he pointed out that it had other uses than hitting people, she proved him wrong by planting it between his ribs harshly.
After returning to his dorms, Harry did as every night and looked boringly at his map to search for the name he was looking for. Usually, he only looked around the entrance of the Chamber. But today after doing it, he decided to look for his Slytherin's friend, however when his eyes passed the D.A.D.A. office, he saw something that made his blood ice cold. Professor Moody was inside, unmoving, while Bartemius Crouch was walking freely around the professor's dot.
Harry was itching to go and see what was happening. His mind came with a few possibilities. Either the two men were colluding together, something that Harry did not really believe knowing the relationship between the D.A.D.A. professor and the headmaster. Or Crouch was doing or has done something to his professor and that was why his dot was unmoving. Harry decided to wait a little longer to see if the dot would move.
While he was doing so, his eyes caught something on the border of the map, another dot. This time the name made Harry's mind blow. It was Bartemius Crouch.
