The following night, Leonardo was meditating up on the roof of the apartment building April O'Neil was renting a room at.
High above the night sky, a mysterious creature flew through the air. The creature was a demon that resembled a woman, but twice the size of the average full-grown human female. She had a pair of long white, feathered wings and a pair of antennae on her head, talons on her bird-like hands and feet, feathers coving her crotch and backside, but not her breasts, blue eyes, and fangs. The demoness's name was Sirene, and she was known through her kind for her beauty, her pride, and her bloodlust.
"There is only one human who knows the demons' secrets and has acquired their powers for his own in order to stop us," Sirene said to herself. "Akira Fudo, the Devilman. I cannot let him live. I shall destroy you, Devilman!"
Sensing the vengeful bloodlust in the air snapped Leonardo out of his meditative trance.
The other turtles were hanging out in the apartment room entertaining April.
"Turtle Wax! What's up with that?" Michelangelo said. "People rub that stuff on their cars but where do they get it from? Hopefully not from someone I knew!"
April and Donatello laughed at Mikey's jokes while Raphael rolled his eyes in annoyance.
"Guys!" Leo yelled getting everyone's attention as he came in.
"Hey, Leo!" Mikey said. "You're just in time for my Sylvester Stallone impersonations."
"Not now. Do any of you feel that?"
"Feel what, Leo?" Raph asked a little irritated.
"Take a moment to clear your minds and feel the energy around you."
The other three turtles closed their eyes and silenced their thoughts. With enough concentration, they were soon able to hear and feel their surroundings; a couple quarreling in one of the other rooms, traffic on a nearby freeway, birds flying through the night sky, and a terrifying bird woman soaring above the clouds with eyes full of bloodlust. The last one caused the three to snap out of their trances in fright.
"What the hell was that?!" Raph asked looking very uncharacteristically spooked.
"Major freakout, dudes!" a frightened Mikey said.
"So, you all felt it too," Leo said observantly.
"Felt what?" April asked. The way her friends were acting was starting to scare her.
"Whatever it was, it's definitely not human," Don confirmed. "It felt like it had a horrific and unnatural bloodlust."
"I felt the same thing," Leo agreed.
"What are you going to do?" a concerned April asked.
"Don't tell me we're going out to find whatever that thing is," Mikey said hopefully and nervously.
"We have to," Leo confirmed much to his brother's displeasure. "We got to make sure it doesn't hurt anyone."
"Ah man!"
"Alright," Raph said eager to fight. "I was afraid this trip might turn out to be a boring waste of time."
"Is there anything I can do?" April asked offering her assistance.
"I think it would be better if you stayed here, April," Don replied.
"Donnie's right," Leo agreed. "It may be too dangerous. Until we know what we're dealing with, it would be best if you left the fighting to us."
"We'd better get going," Raph suggested. "I can feel that thing's bloodlust growing be the minute."
Leonardo opened one of the windows and leapt through into the night with Raphael following right behind him.
"Wish us luck," Michelangelo said before leaping out after them.
"Keep your doors locked and don't open them for anyone," Donatello instructed before joining his brothers.
The young American woman was now alone in the apartment with an uneasy feel. Whatever was out there sounded intense, even for the Turtles. She could only hope that they would all come back safely.
"Good luck, guys."
Pedestrians walked along the sidewalk and cars drove along the streets. In the middle of one street a manhole cover opened slightly and two eyes appeared beneath it.
"See anything, Raph?" Michelangelo asked from within the manhole.
"Not a thing, guys," he replied. "Wait a minute!" Something caught his eye.
He spotted a car suddenly cut in front of a motorcyclist.
"What the hell, asshole!" the cyclist angrily shouted. "You did that on purpose!"
A young man with blonde hair, blue eyes, and wearing a trench coat stepped out of the vehicle.
"Yeah," the young man unapologetically responded. "I did."
Without warning or provocation, the young man punched the cyclist in the face and knocked him off his vehicle. He then took his motorcycle and sped off down the road. Raphael had witnessed the whole thing from his hiding place.
"What did you see, Raph?" Donatello asked.
"An invitation to a butt kicking," he replied with a smile.
The blonde-haired young man drove the stolen motorcycle all the way to a hill. He got off the bike and walked up to the top.
"Not really the most ideal place and time for a picnic," a gruff voice said threateningly startling the young man.
Suddenly, four creatures resembling humanoid turtles wearing ninja gear and different colored bandanas appeared before him.
"Damn! I should've anticipated there'd be more demons!" the young man said pulling a gun out of his coat.
"Now that's not very nice," Raph said cracking his knuckles for the butt kicking he was so eager to dish out. "We may not look human, but we still got –"
"Wait!" Donnie stopped his brother. Something the man said caught his attention. "What do you mean more demons?"
"Uh… guys… What's that?" Mikey called to his brothers and pointed in the sky to something flying toward their location.
Everyone turned to see what appeared to be a giant bird woman flying through the air and carrying a young man with black hair in her taloned foot.
"Akira!" the blonde man cried and pushed past the turtles.
"Ryo!" Akira cried back spotting his friend on the hill.
Ryo aimed his gun at Sirene, the bird woman, and fired. The bullets hit Sirene in the torso causing her to release her captive.
"Damn you!" she angrily yelled detaching one of her clawed hands and shot it at Ryo.
The hand hit Ryo and sank its sharp talons into his back causing him to scream in pain. The off-guard Turtles watched in shock at what was transpiring before them.
Now that he was free, Akira spread large bat-like wings from his back and took flight.
"Sirene! You called me an insect?!" he said. "An insect that lives among human trash?! Well, I will show you just how powerful this insect really is! Get ready for Devilman!"
Akira's body suddenly went through a shocking transformation. His black hair changed into bat-like wings on his head, his forehead turned red, a pair of antennae grew from his eyebrows, the lower half of his body became covered in black fur and grew a long tail with an arrow-headed spade on the tip, he grew claws on his gingers and toes, and his skin turned bluish green. He was no longer Akira Fudo, he was Devilman!
"Devilman! I will tear you to pieces myself!" Sirene proclaimed.
"Bring it on!"
The Turtles watched from the hill, shocked and confused, as the two huge demonic creatures engaged each other in an aerial battle. Their ninja training was supposed to prepare them for anything, but nothing their Master Splinter taught them could have prepared them for this.
"Am I only one who noticed her titties?" Mikey attempted to break the silence in goofy fashion.
This earned him a bonk on the head from Raph for his stupid and inappropriately timed question.
"You're not getting away!" Devilman yelled as he knocked the fleeing Sirene out of the air and down into the forest.
He touched down onto the forest floor and retracted his wings.
"Where did she go?" he said to himself searching for his opponent. "I'll wait for her to blow her cover, then I'll finish her," he thought.
Devilman closed his eyes and stood motionless while listening carefully to his surroundings. Sirene was hiding somewhere in the forest, he just needed to wait for her to make a move and then he'd know where she was and could bring an end to this fight.
"There you are!" he thought hearing something from behind a nearby tree.
With one powerful swipe with his claws, he slashed the tree in two. But instead of finding the bird demoness, he was surprised to find a small humanoid turtle creature wearing an orange bandana.
"Uhh… meow?" the creature nervously said gazing up at the demonic fighter.
"Dang it, Mikey! We're supposed to be stealthier than that!" a gruff, frustrated voice scolded.
Devilman turned to find another turtlelike creature wearing a red bandana jump at him armed with a pair of twin Sais. But the demonic warrior knocked him to the ground. Then two more turtles jumped out of their hiding places and joined the other two.
"It would seem Sirene has brought more demons to aid her," Devilman said. "No matter, I'll take you all on."
"Bring it, Ugly!" Raph challenged.
"Hold on," Donnie interrupted. Something wasn't right. "You think you're fighting demons but aren't you a demon yourself?"
"I thought all the demons would know by now," a confused Devilman replied. "I'm Devilman!"
"And what exactly is a Devilman?" Leo asked with his Ninjato swords drawn.
There was a moment of silence between the five. Their minds plagued with confusion.
"What exactly are you?" Devilman finally replied with his own question. The demonic hero realized something was off about these four turtle creatures. They weren't human but they didn't give off a demonic presence either.
Suddenly, trees started breaking in half and then were hurled at the group like spears. Devilman and the Turtles leapt and dodged to avoid being skewered.
"Wow! Someone really needs to go back to lumberjack school, dudes!" Mikey exclaimed as he tried to avoid becoming a turtle kabob.
This had to be the work of Sirene telekinetically controlling the trees from her hiding place. But where was it? If Devilman could only find where she was, he could put an end to this. Then he spotted a pair of wavy antennae sticking out from behind a large bush.
"There you are!" he yelled as he grabbed one of the logs and hurled it right at the bush forcing his enemy to leap out from behind it to avoid being hit.
With Sirene out in the open, Devilman leapt into the air and knocked her back down to the ground. The two then engaged in hand-to-hand combat as Devilman unleashed a flurry of punches to Sirene's face and gut. The bird demoness tried to fight back with swipes from her remaining claw, but Devilman evaded her attacks. The bewildered Turtles watched as the two towering demons fought.
"Well, guess we know what's been disturbing our sensei's meditation rituals back home," Raph said.
"Indeed," Leo agreed. "But we still need more answers. Wait for my signal to –"
"Nah, I got this," Raph ignored his brother's instructions and charged into battle much to Leo's irritation.
Just as Devilman was about to land another blow on Sirene, a kick to his face knocked him off to the side. The demonic warrior regained his footing and faced his new attacker.
"We ain't finished yet!" Raphael challenged. "If it's a fight you want, here it is!"
"Bring it on!" Devilman responded and lunged at his new opponent.
Devilman swiped with his talons, but Raph leapt to avoid them. The turtle slashed with his sais but Devilman blocked them with his arms. His tough skin received a few scratches but nothing serious. Devilman swung his arm and managed to knock his opponent back. But then Leonardo entered the fight with his swords drawn. The turtle leader swiped and slashed at his foe, but Devilman ducked and dodged every attack.
Sirene got ready to attack Devilman while he was distracted but then Donatello leapt at her and clubbed her in the face with his bo staff. Sirene dodged the next two attacks before grabbing her new opponent in her claw.
"I don't know who you creatures are, but do not interfere with –"
"Heads up!" Michelangelo shouted as he delivered a dropkick to Sirene's head forcing her to release his brother.
"Thanks Mikey, I could feel her claws digging into my shell," Donnie expressed his gratitude.
"Any time, bro. So, what's the plan?"
After recovering from her daze, Sirene shrieked viciously at the two turtles.
"We fight," Donnie suggested.
"Alright!" Mikey responded excitedly and pulled out his nunchucks.
Devilman fought against Leonardo and Raphael as Donatello and Michelangelo did battle with Sirene. Neither side really knew who their opponents were or their motivations, but everyone's minds were focused on one thing: defeating their enemies.
"It's gonna take more than a big jerk with bat wings to shock me!" Raph said.
"Okay, how about this?!" Devilman swung his antennae and wrapped them around his opponent's sais sending electricity through them and shocking his foe. The electrocuted turtle collapsed to the ground. Devilman extended an arm to grab his fallen foe but found himself dodging Leo's swords.
"Don't you dare touch my brother!" the turtle leader said threateningly.
"Insects! I've had enough of you!" Sirene yelled.
Donnie swung his staff at the demoness, but she grabbed it and swung him at his brother.
"Mikey, look out!" Donnie tried to warn his brother, but Sirene threw him and the two brothers collided.
"Sorry, I was distracted by her titties," Mikey apologetically wheezed.
"Time to end this!" Sirene declared.
With a wave of her antennae, Sirene summoned her other arm. The arm released the unconscious Ryo, hovered in the air, and spun away cutting through trees like a flying buzzsaw.
"I've had enough of you guys!" Devilman said preparing to strike Leo and Raph.
But before the demonic hero could deliver his finishing blow, a spinning yellow disc came down from above and sliced through his left arm.
"Gyaa!" he cried.
"How do you like the power of my metal claw, Devilman?!" Sirene sadistically cackled.
Then the demoness grabbed her enemy's wounded arm and pulled it off.
"GGGYYYAAA!"
The Turtles all stared in shock at the brutality of what just happened.
"Oh my god!" Mikey exclaimed. "Talk about disarming!"
"Really, Mikey?!" Raph responded as he and the others stared at their brother appalled and annoyed by his joke.
"Well, now that we've both lost an arm, I guess this makes us even," Devilman managed to say despite the pain he was in.
"Not quite, Devilman. My right arm is just up above you!" Sirene responded.
Sure enough, the spinning claw came flying down toward Devilman who managed to dodge it while clutching his wound. Then the spinning claw flew up into the air again.
"Time to die, Devilman!" Sirene declared.
"GYAAAA!" Devilman cried as the spinning claw sliced his torso. The demonic warrior stood holding his new wound with his remaining arm. Blood gushed from both wounds as he panted heavily.
"How pitiful, Devilman!" Sirene cackled. "My iron claw will rip you all apart piece by piece!"
The Turtles didn't like the looks of this situation just as much as Devilman.
"Anybody have any ideas?" Mikey nervously asked. "I don't want to be turned into turtle Sashimi."
"Looks like that thing cuts through anything," Raph said noticing the claw did more damage to his opponent than his sais.
"She must be controlling it somehow," Donnie deduced.
Overhearing the Turtles' conversation gave Devilman an idea. He noticed that whenever Sirene moved her antennae the claw would move as well.
"She must be controlling it with her antennae," he thought.
Coming up with a plan, Devilman stretched out his own antennae until they grabbed Sirene's. She cried as she felt an electric shock flow through her body causing the spinning claw to fly out of control.
"Looks like I'm in control now!" Devilman claimed.
"Damn you!" Sirene angrily responded. "You won't overcome my power of will!"
The claw came flying toward Devilman from behind. Both demonic fighters were mentally wrestling for control of the claw. Only one would prevail. The Turtles could only observe as the claw drew closer and closer to Devilman.
PSHCK!
"GAAAHHH!" Sirene howled in pain as she was impaled in the gut by her own claw.
"How does that iron claw feel now, Sirene?!" Devilman taunted.
"Curse you, Devilman!" an angry and weak Sirene said as she began to cough up blood.
The demoness lunged at Devilman with her other claw, but he evaded it easily. Her wound had made her slower.
"I'm through playing games," Devilman said and grabbed the left wing on her head. Then with one might pull, he tore the wing off along with part of Sirene's face.
The bird demoness howled in agony as she clutched her face, blood gushing from the grievous wound. The near nauseated Turtles stared in shock. Not only were demons more deadlier fighters than they originally thought, but they fought dirty.
"I was not ready for this," a disturbed Raph broke the silence.
"I don't think any of us were," an equally disturbed Leo added.
"Now I'm going to rip you apart piece by piece!" Devilman declared as he advanced on his mortally wounded opponent.
Afraid, desperate, and in pain, Sirene made a run for it until she came to a clearing in the forest.
"Lord Zenon! Lord Zenon, help me please!" she desperately cried to the night sky. "Don't let me die like this! Give me the power to defeat Devilman! Lord Zenon, I beseech you! Grant me more power!"
Suddenly bolts of lightning came down from the sky and more demons began appearing from where they struck. Devilman and the Turtles found themselves surrounded by more enemies.
"Well, this is just great," Raph sarcastically commented as he readied his sais.
Another bolt came down and a massive demon appeared before Sirene. It had an armored body like a pachyderm, a long tail, a pair of massive tusks protruding from its shoulders, and a small head that looked like that of a tusk-less rhino.
"Kaim!" Sirene exclaimed with relief as she recognized the large, armored demon.
"Sirene, Zenon has sent me to help you," the demon named Kaim informed. "Together we can defeat Devilman. Merge with me."
"No Kaim. Do you see how badly wounded I am? I'm going to die soon. I won't do it," Sirene cautiously refused.
"I am aware of that."
"But if we merge and my consciousness takes over, we'll be doomed to die even if we gain the power to defeat Devilman."
"I know," Kaim solemnly agreed.
"But if your consciousness takes over, we may survive. But it's only a 50/50 chance. There's no telling how it will turn out. You could be throwing your life away. I can't let you take the risk."
"I know, Sirene," Kaim calmly assured. "But it's not up to you. Existence is meaningless to me if you're not in it. Sirene, I want you to taste victory over Devilman. I give you my life, my body, and all my powers."
"W…Why? Why would you do this?" the wounded bird demoness asked genuinely confused by her cohort's offer of selfless sacrifice.
There was a long silence as the two demons stared into each other's eyes.
"Because, Sirene…" Kaim finally broke the silence. "Even though you are stained with blood, you are still beautiful and I have loved you… since the dawn of time."
"Kaim…" Sirene said surprised and touched. She felt a tear drip from her right eye.
"Ahhhh! That was beautiful!" a young and annoying voice was heard. The two demons turned to find Michelangelo standing beside them. The turtle had snuck away from the fight with the other demons and followed Sirene. A tear was rolling his cheek as he had eavesdropped on the whole scene and was legitimately touched by it.
"Vermin! What are you doing here?!" Sirene yelled enraged at the young turtle for spying on and ruining their tender moment.
"There is no time, Sirene. You must merge with me now," Kaim said. "Fighting along you has been the greatest honor of my life."
With that, Kaim wrapped his tail around his own head and pulled it off.
"Kaim!" Sirene cried as more tears flowed from her eyes.
Determined to not let her cohort's sacrifice be in vain, Sirene leapt toward the headless body and merged with it. The top half of the bird demoness's body was now where Kaim's head used to be.
"Devilman! You and those meddlesome creatures will now face the wrath of Sirene!" the furious and heartbroken Sirene declared. "Kaim shall not have given his life in vain! We will destroy you all!"
"Uh oh!" a nervous Mikey exclaimed realizing what was coming.
Back in the forest, Devilman and the three other turtles fought over the other demons that had arrived. Devilman had just impaled the last demon on the top of a tree.
"Guess that's the last of them," Raphael observed. "Now where were we? Oh yeah! We're not finished!" The turtle faced the demonic warrior with his sais drawn.
"Bring it! One hand is more than enough!" Devilman challenged.
"Wait!" Donatello got between the two. "Can we all stop fighting for just a minute?!"
"Donnie's right," Leonardo agreed. "We still need answers."
"Fine," Raph reluctantly conceded and lowered his weapons. Devilman lowered his remaining arm in response. "Alright Ugly, we have questions, and we want answers to them!"
"Same here," Devilman replied. "How about I go first? If you guys aren't demons, then what are you?"
"We going to ask the same thing about you," Donnie replied.
But before anymore questions could be asked or answers, the four fighters heard a scream coming toward them. They all turned to see Michelangelo running toward them in fear.
"RRUUUNNNN!" he screamed.
Soon, the merged and empowered Sirene came stampeding through the trees right behind him.
"Devilman, now I will destroy you!" the demoness declared.
The demonic hero and the four turtle heroes, realizing the fight just got tougher, decided to make a run for it. However, Sirene shot a blast of electricity from Kaim's tusks at them. All five of them felt immense pain as electricity flowed through their bodies paralyzing them. Sirene rammed into the group knocking the turtles in all directions and impaling Devilman on one of the tusks.
Little did any of them know was that they were not alone. Hiding within one of the bushes was a small robot nearly the size of a cat. The robot resembled a wingless bird with a big beak. It also had a tiny camera and antenna on the top of its head. The robot observed the battle undetected.
Using his wings, Devilman pulled himself off the tusk. He flew a good distance before collapsing on the ground. Blood poured from his new wound.
"I… can't move. I'm finished!" he realized as he lay clutching the hole in his torso.
The Turtles got back up and regrouped but they were all injured and very tired.
"Now I know what how a rodeo clown feels," Mikey said despite the pain he was in.
"Ah crap!" Raph exclaimed as he spotted Sirene staring menacingly in their direction.
"I don't know who you are, and I don't care!" she said to the weakened turtles. "You will pay for interfering with our battle!" The demoness readied herself for another charge. Despite knowing she didn't have long to live; she was determined to make the last moments of her life glorious. She would die as she lived; a warrioress of the demon race.
A small beeping sound suddenly came for the small robot's antenna as it observed the dying demoness.
"Looks like we're about to become turtle shish kabob!" Mikey cried nervously.
"DIIIEEE!" Sirene yelled as she charged at the turtles.
After the shock blast and the ramming, the four brothers were in no condition to fight, and the electricity had messed up their nervous systems causing them to move slower. They wouldn't be able to dodge intime. They braced themselves for the oncoming impact. But just as she was just feet from colliding with them, a portal suddenly opened between the turtles and their attacker. A blue light emanated from within the portal. Unable to stop herself intime, Sirene charged into the portal which closed behind her. Once the demoness had vanished, the beeping coming from the small robot's antenna stopped and it scurried away. The turtles opened their eyes to see that, to their confusion, their enemy was gone.
"Alright, I'm calling it," Donnie said as he started to feel the effects of the shock blast wear off. He reached into one of the holsters on his belt and pulled out a small smoke bomb. "It's Ninja Vanish Time!" he declared and threw the smoke bomb onto the ground. It burst into a cloud of smoke on impact. Once it had cleared, the four brothers were gone.
Elsewhere, Devilman lay on the ground weak and bleeding from his wound.
"Sirene, where did she go?" he wondered as his demon form began to fade turning him back into Akira Fudo, his human form. "And those turtle creatures, what happened to them?" A moment later, he closed his eyes and lost consciousness.
The sun shined over the mountains signaling dawn had come.
Akira slowly began to open his eyes. His vision was blurry, but it began to adjust and could make out the face of his friend, Ryo, staring down at him with a smile of relief.
"Looks like you're finally awake," he said.
"Ryo…?" a surprised Akira said, his voice still sounded a little weak. "Am I… alive?"
"Barely," his friend replied and handed him a medicine bottle. "Here, drink this."
"What are you doing here?" Akira asked after taking a swig from the bottle.
"While I was asleep at the hospital, I felt that you were in danger. It felt like we were communicating through some kind of telepathy."
"Telepathy?" Akira wondered as he sat up.
"Take it easy, your body isn't fully healed yet," Ryo urged.
"Wow!" Akira exclaimed in surprise when he noticed his severed arm had been reattached.
"I found your arm and thought perhaps it could reattach itself," Ryo explained. "Guess I thought correctly. I also brought medicine, bandages, and clothes for you."
"And the demons?" Akira asked.
"All dead," Ryo confirmed.
"What about Sirene?"
"I couldn't find her anywhere. But considering the wounds she received, I doubt she'll cause any more trouble."
"What about the turtles?"
"You mean the four demons? I couldn't find a trace of them anywhere either."
"Ryo, this may sound strange, but I don't think they're demons."
"What else could they be?" Ryo was confused by his friend's claim. "They're certainly not human."
"I know, but I didn't feel the same kind of pressure I get from other demons," Akira explained.
"They're probably still out there," Ryo guessed. "We'll need to wait for them to make their move if we're going to have any chance of finding them and figuring out who, or what, they are."
Akira nodded in agreement.
Back at the apartment, April was sleeping in her bed when she finally awoke. She sat up, stretched her arms, and rubbed her eyes. Her vision was a little blurry but it eventually adjusted allowing to see her four turtle friends sitting in the room watching her with new injuries.
"Guys!" she cried startled and fully awake. "Where have you been all night? I was so worried! And what happened to you?"
"April," Raph was the first to speak. "Pour yourself a cup of coffee and take a seat. You're in for a long story."
