Disclaimer: I don't own InuYasha or any of his friends. They just visit my mind from time to time.
This is a small part from a story I wrote with my brother. He thought this was unnecessary and sappy so I didn't put it in but I always liked it, so here it is.
A MOMENT BY THE FIRE
Her head came to rest on his shoulder. InuYasha held his breath and looked down at the tumble of black hair. Realising she was asleep he slowly let out his breath, rustling the soft tendrils that lay against his arm. He lifted his hand intending to smooth the wayward hair, and stopped. Would she wake up and move away if he touched her? His heart pounded as he slowly brought his hand to her hair. His fingers gently smoothed over the silky tendrils, and like living black silk they twined around his hand, delicately trapping him.
Bending down he took a deep breath and inhaled in her scent. She smelled like a flower blooming in the middle of a forest. Fresh and sweet. Gently he kissed the top of her head, and held his breath again as she snuggled deeper into his shoulder. He watched the light from the campfire flick across her smooth features as she settled, her hand coming to rest on his chest. Slowly he let his breath out.
Gently freeing his hand from its soft prison he leaned back against the tree behind him and brought his other arm around her shoulders, holding her to him. Careful not to wake her, he softly brought his free hand up and traced her brow with his fingertip. Her skin was velvety soft like the petals of a flower. Barely touching her, he traced over her nose, cheekbones, and chin, pausing as he came to her lips. His heart jumped in his chest as he watched her small tongue dart out to moisten them, leaving them slightly parted and glistening in the firelight.
His heart pounding, he bent his head till his lips were a bare inch away from hers, his breathing slightly uneven, he briefly glanced at her closed eyes. Without rushing he gently lowered his mouth to hers, brushing his lips across hers, for just a moment mingling their breath. Drawing his lips across hers a final time he moved back and looked down at the sleeping girl in his arms and smiled tenderly. With one last whisper gentle caress across her lips he brought both of his arms around her and settled back more comfortably against the tree. Sighing with contentment he closed his eyes and slept.
On the other side of the fire Miroku smiled to himself and closed his eyes. Love really could tame even the fiercest of hearts, he thought as he drifted off to sleep.
The End
