Today was 4th of July and the third day of vacation for Adam and Kim. The day before had been such an amazing day. They shared their first kisses. It was wonderful, beautiful and they couldn't get enough of each other. They felt beyond comfortable with each other, so much so that Kim had been falling asleep in his arms last night. He would have loved for that to happen but he knew better. If they had been caught together it would have caused more issues than it was worth. Eventually they would tell people they were together but they were undefined so there was nothing to say yet.
Kim awoke knowing it was going to be a good day but with little time with Adam. As she headed to the bathroom she texted Adam asking if he was joining her on their run this morning. She hoped he would so they could spend time together but she could understand wanting to sleep in. Kim entered the bathroom to start her early morning routine. When she returned to her room 20 minutes later she saw Adam had been responded had he would be waiting outside for her. Kim smiled wide, she couldn't wait to see him again.
Adam had woken hearing his phone buzz. He knew it was Kim, she was the only person he knew that would be up this early. He answered right away that he was getting ready and would wait outside for her. Adam noticed his dad was up when he left his room. "Pops! I'm headed out for a run. Should be back in an hour or so!" Adam called out but didn't wait for a reply. He texted Kim to meet a few driveways further down so they wouldn't be seen together. At the end of the driveway he stretched out and could see Kim stretching out as well.
He started jogging away from his place and waited for Kim to get closer. As Kim caught up she ran right into his arms for a hug and kiss. "Good morning baby!" Kim kissed him again quickly before heading towards the main road. "Good morning! Let's get this done!" Adam wanted to get the run done so they could spend time together eating the cinnamon roll. Adam did his best to keep up with Kim as she picked up speed and found her stride. As they hit the north side of town Kim caught sight of Adam gasping. She slowed down to allow him to catch some air. "Sorry! Didn't mean to run you so hard!" Kim smiled as she slowed down next to him. "It's good but damn you can run fast. I'm gonna need to train so I can keep up with you." Adam wasn't upset about it so he pulled her into a kiss before they turned to head back.
They headed back to Kim's bakery to get their treat. Adam paid today since Kim paid yesterday for both treats. They sat at a table under the trees enjoying their snack while holding hands. "So today is the 4th. Are you guys going to the fireworks?" Kim asked knowing it was always a good show. "Um I don't know. I assume you are so send me the details and I will try to sell my dad and sister on it. You headed to the beach today?" Adam asked as he squeezed her hands. "Oh of course! The only way I'm not going is if it's raining. And even then I will be under the carport area in my chair, feet in the sand reading." Kim laughed knowing it sounded crazy. "Speaking Of I started the book last night. I didn't get far but so far it's pretty good. I don't know if it will be read everyday but I will continue to read it." Adam shrugged as he spoke. "That's great! I'm happy to hear that! I'm proud of you!" Kim smiled as she leaned in to kiss him. It made her happy that he was giving it a try, that meant a lot to her.
As started the slow walk home they talked about nothing important. Just random things about each other, it was fun and an important thing to do. They needed and wanted to have a stable footing in hopes they could actually make this work when they head home. "Can I ask you an important question?" Adam asked as he slowed to a stop. "Of course! Ask me anything you want to know." Kim was worried now. "Don't get worried. It's not bad. I just wanted to define this. Define us. I want us to be official. I want you to be my girlfriend." Adam was holding her hands as he looked deep into her eyes. "Yes!" Kim launched into his arms kissing him hard on the lips. They made out for a bit before continuing home. Kim left before him so they didn't look like they were together.
When Adam got home be headed to the shower and then upstairs to eat breakfast. He was in such a great mood and no one could bring him down. "So pops. What do you think about fireworks tonight? Could be fun for all of us. I looked it up online and found a good place to view them from. What do you think?" Adam asked knowing it was the place Kim was going. They wouldn't be together there but at least they could hopefully see each other from a distant. "Yeah that sounds good. We are cooking out first though." Bob stated as they sat down eating together. After Adam finished he headed to the beach with his towel, cooler and the borrowed book.
Kim had gotten home and showered right away. She was trying to hide the beaming smile on her face. She dressed for the beach and headed up to get breakfast. She then packed her lunch, drinks and snacks in a cooler. She headed to the beach with all her items and a new book. She couldn't wait to start reading this one, it is part of a series of books so she really wanted to dive in. When she arrived at the beach she saw Adam was already there reading the book she lent him. It was kind of hot. "Hey baby!" Kim ran over to kiss him before setting up her area. They were closer together than normal but still a decent space between them.
"I'm so glad you are here. I missed you! You want to head into the water?" Adam asked as he started to get up. "Sounds great! Hey are you okay with me calling you baby? I don't want to make you uncomfortable." Kim wanted to double check. "I love it. You can call me anything you like that shows I'm yours! Let's do this darling!" Adam kissed her quick before walking with her into the water. They made it out to the sandbar where they could stand up normally and jump through the waves. They were laughing and joking with each other, having a great time as a couple even if no one knew it.
They headed back to their towels and chairs to get some water and some fruit. They shared the fruit and even fed each other pieces. It was intimate but not sexual. And very new for both of them. It was nice to experience firsts together, first kisses, first relationships. She hoped for many more firsts to come. When they were satisfied they each sat back to start reading their respective books. The silence was comfortable and the air was lite. It was great. They eventually headed back into the water to cool off and hang out more. When there families came down they moved a bit to make it look like they weren't together.
For being 13 they knew they weren't supposed to be dating someone but they couldn't help it. They felt this was right for both of them. They didn't know how to explain it but this felt just amazing and everything they wanted. Adam headed back to his chair while swam around for a bit longer. When she came back she sat down with her lunch while reading her book. She stole glances at Adam while she read and noticed he was doing the same. Adams dad and sister headed back around 3 but Adam wasn't ready to head back. So he stayed to stay close to Kim.
Kim's family headed back around 4. When they were sure they were alone Adam moved closer to Kim. "Are we heading for cake today?" He asked with a smirk. "If you would like to? It's up to you." Kim offered. She valued his opinion and wanted him to have a say in what they did. Her parents fought over that constantly. "Sounds good darling! Sound we head back soon to get ready before heading there?" Adam asked her, not wanting to rush her. "Sounds good. I can't wait to share it with you again." Kim smiled at him. "Come on. I want to get the showers over so we can be together again. So hurry up!" Adam kissed her before patting her butt to hurry her. Kim laughed as she swatted his chest.
Kim rushed inside telling her folks that she was heading to get her favorite cake slice after her shower. Her parents were fine with that. They knew it was her thing so they didn't complain to much. Kim texted Adam as she headed towards his place. He was waiting for her a few houses down telling his dad he was going to check out a surf shop he saw while he was running. As they met up they were wrapped in each other immediately. It was a very intense hug that made them both feel safe and content. They walked hand in hand towards the shop bumping into each other as they walked. Causing them to giggle as they went.
They enjoyed this slice of cake together just as much as the day before. Though maybe it tasted better since today they were together, they were a couple. "When do you head home?" Kim asked wondering how long they had together. "We are leaving late Saturday night so dad can drive through the night. He works Monday so he wants recovery time from the drive. What about you?" Adam hoped it wasn't before he left. "Sunday morning. So we have a few more days together. Any plans when you get home?" Kim asked him.
"Not really nothing set in stone. Trying to meet up with some friends when I get back. What about you?" Adam asked trying to see when they could meet up. "Well I am meeting up with my bestie Erin when I get back. And I'm sure boyfriend Jay will be there but that's cool. He's a nice guy." Kim looked up to see Adams confused face. "What? Why do you look so confused?" Kim laughed really hard at his face. "Your best friend is named Erin and her boyfriend is named Jay?" He asked confused. "Yeah. Why?" Kim asked laughing. "One if my good friends is name Jay and his girlfriend is named Erin. So you know Jay Halstead?" Adam confirmed. "Yup! See!" Kim pulled out her phone to bring up her wallpaper. "This is insane! But I'm excited cause we can all hang out together. Wait I didn't know Erin was in foster care. That's really tough, I feel for her." Adam looked bummed at that. "Ordinarily I would agree but her foster parents are amazing people. She's very lucky!" Kim smiled.
"Well on a lighter topic. We are headed to the fireworks tonight so hopefully we will see each other there." Adam smiled as Kim's face lit up. "That is exciting. I'm glad you will get to see them. It's beautiful. They shot out over the water so it reflects, it's amazing! Text me during so I know what you are thinking." Kim got up to kiss him as they started the walk back. They shared stories of their mutual friends now that they knew about this coincidence. It was nice knowing they had people in common that they could share their relationship with so they didn't have to hide all the time.
They went there separate ways after a brief make out session. Kim didn't want to let go enjoying the feel of Adams hand holding onto the small of her back. But they did break apart knowing dinner was around the corner. Adam was excited for the cook out, it's a favorite meal of his and Kim was excited to hear her parents agreed to go out to eat. As they drove past Adams house Kim looked over to see him outside. He winked at her as they passed by. Kim tried not to be effected by it knowing her family could see her. She did text him to let him know she saw his wink. She was genuinely happy with how things were going this week. She would have never thought she would find someone here, let alone from Chicago or that he would know her best friends.
While dinner cooked Adam played a game outside with his sister trying to keep her busy so she would complain about being hungry. He had fun playing with his sister, he do that often but today seemed like a good time to do it. He's happier and it's giving him a better attitude all around. He hoped this good mood would continue when he got home to Chicago. He was excited to see where they could go from here. This was the first time he ever imagined a future with someone since he watched his parents marriage fall apart. It scarred him a bit and he thought it wasn't worth it but Kim made him think maybe Love was real and maybe it could work with the right people.
As dinner wrapped up Kim was looking forward to seeing the fireworks show tonight. She was looking forward to seeing Adam again. She hoped they would see each other at least. They had texted a few times during dinner missing the closeness they shared. It was crazy Kim thought. How could they be so close already. Was this real? How could it be? But she knew not to question it too much. Just enjoy the ride together. Just enjoy each other's company together. During the time between dinner and the fireworks Kim and her family went bowling getting a few games in before heading to the fireworks show. They grabbed drinks and snacks to enjoy while they waited. They also had some blankets to lay on the ground so they didn't get wet or grass stains.
As Kim waited for the show to begin she saw Adam show up with his family. She was happy they came, hoping this may be a yearly thing but that was too far in the future. She liked to plan far in advance and that was something that bothered people, she didn't want to scare Adam off with it. Adam saw Kim staring off at the water waiting for the show. She looked deep in thought, it was adorable looking. He laughed as she was startled out of her thoughts by the first shot of fireworks. She looked almost scared before turning to pure awe. He watched her more than the actual fireworks, though those were pretty too.
As the finale went off Adam wasn't even looking anymore, he was mesmerized by Kim. Her beauty was all he saw in this moment. He took a photo of her face to remember this moment forever. The crowd cheering told him it was over. They watched people starting to leave but they waited for traffic to die down some before they left. Kim felt her phone buzz. She was happy to see it was Adam but it was a photo of her that she saw. She looked up to see his staring right at her, with what looked like love in his eyes. "Thank you for seeing me like this. I will cherish this photo always." Kim smiled as she sent the text to him. He smiled back as he received it. "Always darling! Always!" Adam replied.
They arrived home separately but they continued to text each other. Sending photos and asking silly questions of each other. They both laughed at the ridiculous answers they received, some on purpose and some the truth but still hilarious. While some people would find this boring, they loved it and looked forward to the coming days. Neither wanted to think about Saturday night when Adam would leave but she was the next day so it shouldn't be too bad. They just decided to live in the moment for now.
The next few days followed the same way as the previous ones. Going for runs in the morning, sharing a cinnamon roll. Then heading to the beach for most of the afternoon before heading for a shared piece of cake. Dinners with family and then an activity with their family before heading to bed texting each other all night. They used the nights as a way to find out all the little things about each other. Like favorite color, favorite movie, tv show, sports teams. It was nice and superficial. They also agreed to discuss more intense topics in person. Knowing those things were better said in person. He wanted to be up front about his home life with her because it effected how he thought and acted sometimes. She also had family issues that they touched on briefly but no one wanted vacation ruined by family drama.
On Friday night Kim cried herself to sleep. She didn't want to be separated from him even for a day. She knew it sounded desperate and maybe it was but he made her insanely happy and she didn't want to be away from that or him. She had to remind herself that it would all be alright, they could survive this, together. She just needed to believe and trust in Adam. Kim's sleep was plagued by dreams of Adam and a future together. It was beautiful she hoped it would come true. It looked way in the future but it looked like a great life for them and the children with them playing on a beach. It brought her peace. The morning started their last day together here so she chose to focus on this dream as she drifting into a deeper sleep.
