Disclaimer: don't own 'em, never will. Sigh...
Author's notes: I suddenly found myself a little writers blocky today and just set the title of this as a simple challenge to myself, because I really am that lame. Therefore I can only apologise in advance for any drop in the quality of my writing. I hope it is passable anyhoo. Bestest wishies to all.
The Ideal Soldier
He takes the time to ask himself a few questions.
What makes the ideal soldier?
Fitness and stamina?
She has that.
A comfortable skill in the use of weapons?
She has that.
A bloody minded determination to survive against the odds?
She has that.
The ability to adapt to new and unexpected situations?
She has that.
The type of thought processes that allow thinking outside of the box?
She has that.
The inner strength to endure periods of capture without, for the most part, long term effects on mental health?
She has that.
The sharpness of eye to be able to react instantly to sudden attack?
She has that.
The willingness to follow orders, even if she believes they may be wrong?
He has seen it. They have, on occasion, lived it.
The intelligence to think her way out of a problem, no matter how insurmountable the odds seem?
Well, if she doesn't have it, he isn't sure who does.
A commitment to duty so strong that she will deny herself everything that could matter so much to her, just to serve?
He knows all about that. And he knows she does too.
The depth of character to allow him to send her out on so many dangerous missions, with barely even a backward glance, just trusting in him to match the right people to the right tasks?
Always and without question.
Is she the ideal soldier?
Yes.
But does he wish that, just once, she would look back at him when she leaves Earth with anything other than the professional glance of a departing officer?
Every damned time.
