It Will Be Me

Disclaimer: I don't own anything. Wish I did, but I don't. Ah well.

Draco Malfoy sat at the Slytherin table, staring at the daily prophet, which he held in his hand. The headline read: LUCIOUS MALFOY, KILLED BY THE DARK LORD.

Draco stared at the paper in disbelief. Sure, his father had never been kind to him, but he was still his father. He was crushed, but could not cry. Not in front of all these people. It would be terrible. So he got up suddenly and exited the great hall, going down to the lake.

Ginny Weasley looked at the same headline from across the hall. She looked around for Draco and saw him leaving the great hall in a hurry. She quickly gathered her things and went out after him, while Ron, Harry, and Hermione all grinned.

By the time Ginny found Draco, he had red eyes and was crying quietly, leaning on a tree near the edge of the lake.

She approached quietly and sat down beside him. "What do you want, Weasley?" he asked her harshly. He had his eyes closed and only opened them for a minute to see who she was before shutting them tightly again.

Ginny looked at him, "Well, I was going to see if you were alright. But you clearly are not. So I'm going to keep you company."

Draco looked at her like she was insane. "I don't need any company. And besides, why would you want to hang out with a deatheater's son?" He whispered. He couldn't be mean at the moment. It hurt too much.

"First of all, you do need some company. Someone to care about you. And you're still just Draco Malfoy. Not the nicest guy, but still a human being, and you don't deserve to suffer all alone," Ginny responded.

He nodded and closed his eyes, letting his head rest against the tree. Within minutes, he was sobbing. Ginny took him in her arms and cradled his head against her chest, rocking gently back and forth. He grabbed onto her tightly and cried even harder.

"It's alright. It'll be alright. Don't worry," Ginny would whisper occasionally. Draco never responded, and she didn't expect him to. After awhile with Draco still crying, Ginny began to sing. She knew she had a terrible voice, but it was a beautiful song, and it might work:

When you start fallin'

Who's gonna catch ya?

I'm willing to bet ya,

It will be me.

Who's gonna love ya,

Like there's no other?

Search and discover,

It will be me.

When all the others,

Have gone and hurt you.

Who won't desert you?

It will be me.

Ginny continued to sing the rest of the song as Draco began to quiet. Once she had finished the song, he looked up at her.

"Promise it'll be you?" Draco asked, sounding tentative and a bit afraid.

Ginny smiled at him, "I promise it will be me." With that, Draco kissed her, and she kissed him back.

They were out there for hours. They talked, and Draco cried some more, and Ginny sang to him again, before they went in. They wouldn't have gone in if it hadn't been dark. They had missed all their classes, but that was the last thing they cared about.

The next evening, Ginny held Draco as he cried again, and the night after that, and the night after that. But each night, he cried less. And soon, they just went outside to be together and away from the whispers and stares.

Draco had taken up sitting at the Gryffindor table with Ginny, which Ron had objected greatly about, but Hermione got him to shut up and smiled at Ginny. Ginny smiled back and held Draco's hand under the table.

She squeezed it reassuringly and they smiled at each other. Soon, nobody really cared about them anymore. It had become well known that they were in love, and, though people had tried, there was no changing that.

Well? Weird, I know. But it's the first Harry Potter fic I've written, so get over it! The song is It will be me by Faith Hill. And it is set before the Half-Blood Prince. Anyway, please review!
