It was interesting to be a part of something like this. Not knowing what she'll expect when Nyx joins this hunt.
She does feel bad for those whom they will get, but she had learned a very long time ago that survival for oneself was all that matters. Doing what one can to ensure they get to see the light of the day again as she slowly traverses in this realm of darkness.
Nyx and Larten were somewhere in a nearby village. The older one said that he'll be doing all the work and all she had to do was to sit tight behind this trash bin.
Larten perched somewhere else as they waited for an unexpected human to come through this alleyway. One would use such a shortcut to get to their next place.
Nyx had picked up a twig while waiting, picking at the bits of bark off of it with her nails out of boredom. She never knew waiting for a human to possibly come through there would be so boring.
However, her boredom didn't last long as her ears detected a set of footsteps coming this way.
She dropped the twig to peek over the bin. At first she didn't see anything, but then seconds later a man dressed in a business suit carrying a bouquet of flowers came jogging into view.
"Sheesh, Maria is going to bloody kill me." The man huffed as he jogged with a pace.
He gets halfway to where Nyx was before, like a predator, the red cladded vampire leaps down upon the human.
Before the human could turn to see who it was, Larten breathes a type of gas into the man, causing him to pass out.
Wait, what?? Nyx blinked confused as she watched Larten catch the man as he swayed, putting him down on the ground gently. The flowers dropped and petals were everywhere.
"You can come out now, Nyx." Larten spoke calmly.
Nyx walked from the trash bin and approached the two.
She looked at the human, at first she thought he was dead, but when she heard the light snoring and his heart beat still pumping, she learned he was just in some sort of a deep sleep. She never recalled her monster using this ability. Was this something all vampires do?
Nyx must have a confused look on her face, because Larten let out a hum.
"Have you not done this before?" He asked her.
Larten knew that not only he would like to learn what she can do, but he himself has to know what her so-called sire has done.
That vampire broke so many rules and laws set within the clan, the Generals would indeed execute them right on the spot. It was against the rules to turn children for starters. With what injuries Larten had seen on her, it still made him sick to think what horrors they did to her, it would be incredibly beneficial to put a stake through that bastard's heart.
Though a part of him felt like a hypocrite, as he was supposed to turn one months ago. One can say thank God for small miracles.
It took a moment for Nyx to register what Larten said. She turned her gaze up to the older vampire and she nodded her head yes, she had not done this before.
Already she was seeing differences with how she had always been fed to right now.
She watched Larten lift a leg up from the unconscious man, rolling up his pants leg to expose his calf.
He then took his sharp nails and sliced him. Once blood hit the air, Nyx's nostrils flared. "If you are wondering, I breathed a special gas that puts others to sleep. An ability all full vampires share This man will wake up disoriented but he will be fine." He explained to her as plainly as he could before he put his lips on the wound and drank from the man.
Larten was pleased that his body still craved human blood after he tasted hers. And he silently prayed to the vampire gods that he would never crave to taste hers again.
Nyx gulped as she watched him feed but listened to what he said. She was taken aback because this was completely different from what she was used to doing for thirty winters.
When she expected him to take minutes to drink the man near bone dry, it took Larten a few sips that lasted mere seconds before he removed his lips from the man's leg. "Ah, refreshing, good blood this one has." Larten said with a satisfied chuckle.
He then looked at her. "Your turn." Larten said, offering her to partake.
Nyx looked at him then looked down to the bloody leg. She licked her lips hungrily before approaching him, kneeling down and grabbed the leg and she drank.
Her body trembled as she took in the fresh blood. Hot and delicious blood filling her cheeks and down her throat.
A moment later, Larten stopped her. "Okay Nyx, that's enough." He said to her. When she didn't listen, he placed a hand on her shoulder to get her to stop.
Nyx jolted from his touch, she removed herself from the man's leg and scooted away from Larten's hand with wide frightened eyes, panic breathing. Her hands shake as if she felt the need to strike and defend herself but she forcibly held herself back.
"Apologies, but you must not take too much or else he would have die." Larten said, watching how tense she was now.
Instead of lowering his hand, he raised it up, licked his thumb with saliva before going across the human man's cut.
Nyx was baffled as she watched him rubbed spit on the man. Not knowing what he was doing as she tried to get her breathing under control.
She then saw the man's leg healed. Nyx gasped softly at that.
"Vampires can also heal wounds with our spit, as you can see." Larten said. Having her see the wound close.
He knew that it would take some time for Nyx to fully trust him. One cannot rush it, especially with a traumatized child.
"Vampires generally only take a few sips, we do not kill those we feed upon. There is no need for unnecessarily killing." Larten said as he fixed the man's leg and set it down before he stood up.
Nyx was stunned when she heard that. Her heart began to race, her body trembled when she began thinking how her monster does it.
Memories surging through her, remembering the countless times she sees Him bringing in an unconscious human into the cottage, waiting for them to wake up before hurting them. Recalling being forced to sit and watch him torture them for a bit before drinking their blood while they were awake, draining them almost empty before making her finish them off. Killing them… there were times he would drain them completely and she wouldn't even get a single drop.
She felt utterly disgusted the fact it was the only time her monster wasn't focusing his tortured abuse on her but them. She lost track on how many lives were taken by either his or her hands.
Nyx curled up on the ground, hugging her legs close and buried her face, she began sobbing.
Feeling like she was just as bad as her sire was.
Larten stared at the crying child. He didn't know what was going on in her head, but he knew it was not good.
He held a hand out as if he wanted to comfort her before receding it. Best not to push it.
He let out a heavy sigh before looking up at the moon. "It is a fine night," he said at last as Nyx began to recompose herself, looking up at him.
He turns his heels then and proceeds to walk. "Truly a fine night for a stroll," Larten then stopped at the end of the alleyway and slightly turned to Nyx. "Come along then, my dear, it is best not to be around when he wakes up." He said.
Nyx stared at him for a moment sniffling. Wiping her tears with her gloved hand and wiped the blood off her lips.
She starts to hear the man begin to stir. Quickly getting on her feet and followed him out.
The two vampires walked along a barren road away from the village. The slight chill in the air was refreshing to say the least.
Larten was quickly getting used to her constant silence. He had heard those who went through intense trauma lost their ability to speak, actually having seen it first hand long ago when he used to work at the factory as a young boy.
Oftentimes those children do not survive long, they become broken by the hands of one cruel foreman.
Been a long time since Larten had thought about those days.
He glanced down at the solemn child. He noted that she was distrustful to others, fearful to a lot but he could see that she was not broken. Very guarded to her heart but has seen she never lost it.
"Nyx," he spoke up then, getting her attention.
She looked up in response. The rays of moonlight seemed to make her white hair shine a little with a bit of glow.
"I know you have much distrust of me. Given what you had endured, I do not blame you for that," he said, slowing down so she could keep up in pace. "The one who turned you, should have never blooded you."
Nyx tilted her head as he spoke.
"I do not know all the horrors he had brought up on you, but it is not how vampires are. We have laws we follow, and blooding children against our laws. You are lucky to have survived the change but it should not have happened in the first place." He wasn't going to ask if she was forced to do it because that much was painstakingly obvious. "If he is found, he will answer for his actions, he will not get away with this."
Nyx gazed at him as she took in his words before looking at the ground as they walked.
He then said this. "Whatever you had to do to survive, what he had forced you to do, just know that what you may have done, it is not your fault. You will not be in any trouble for his actions."
She snapped her head back up to the orange haired vampire. Who in turn was giving her a soft look.
Her heart thumped in a way that was unfamiliar to her.
This other vampire had literally done nothing but helped her since they met, in his own way shown kindness towards her. She opened her mouth as if she was to speak but then closed it again.
But it was clear that she felt somewhat relieved to hear him say that, even though that feeling of guilt and shame was still there, she did feel better to hear those words say to her.
Nyx instead gave Larten a little smile and nodded to him.
He cleared his throat before facing back to the road. "There is one more errand I must attend to, after that, we shall return to the Cirque Du Freak." He tells her before he picks up his pace.
Nyx was easily strolling alongside him, matching his speed with ease. Feeling a bit more rejuvenated than before.
Maybe she can trust him after all.
