Frances woke disoriented and looked around the room. The harsh reality that she was there alone smacked her in the face once more. She wished that she'd brought her vast collection of books. It would have been so nice to stay in this cabin all summer and catch up on her reading.

It had been a whole year since she'd last been to Kellerman's and unlike that fateful first trip, she had no desire to check out the grounds or play Charades in the West Lobby. All she needed to do was make an appearance once in a while so that her parents knew she was alive. She'd put on a smile and act like the perfect daughter, just as she'd always done. Even though it had taken a very long time for her father to trust her again, she knew that his trust was like a thin piece of thread, just waiting to be broken once more, never to be repaired again.

She tried to go back to sleep, but thoughts of Johnny swirled through her head. There was no use crying over him any longer. She wasn't stupid. She knew he was never coming back. She just wished she could see him or talk to him one more time. There were so many things she wanted to say to him; so many things she wished she could tell him; like how he changed her life just by teaching her to dance and how she had more confidence in herself than she'd ever had before.

The late afternoon sun streamed through the windows, reminding her that it would soon be time to join Lisa and her parents for dinner. She hoped-oh how she hoped that Robbie wouldn't be there. He deserved to be fired after what he'd put her sister through. Lisa was smart, but when it came to boys, she was definitely naive. But Frances loved her sister and somehow, when Johnny left, Lisa and Frances grew closer than ever before.
Before Frances went away to Mount Holyoke that fall, she and Lisa spent hours talking about things they'd never really discussed before. And unexpectedly, Lisa spilled her heart out about Robbie and about finding him in bed with another woman. The thought burned Frances up and made her shudder. In turn, Frances told Lisa all about Johnny and about how he made her feel. Dancing with him was so freeing and even though their first lessons were tense, she eventually opened up to him in a way she'd never opened up to anyone before.
And when he left….

Tears spilled onto her cheeks and she sighed deeply. He'd been gone over a year; the last time she'd seen him, the closing show was almost over and the entire place was dancing in the style that the kids loved best. Even Neil lightened up, if only a little. Frances had done her signature lift in the most unique way, and afterwards Johnny congratulated her on her dancing over and over.

The door opened unexpectedly and she heard a familiar voice; that of Billy. "Hey Frances, I was just wondering, if it's okay with your parents, did you want to sit with me at dinner? I could use the company and-."
She turned away, ashamed to look at him. But as she stared at the wall, she heard his footsteps coming closer and closer. And then a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey…"
Slowly she turned to look at him and his eyes lit up in surprise. "What's wrong?"
She shook her head. Her throat felt so tight that she had no idea what to say. Because she knew that if she said his name, her emotions would crash.
"I swear, whatever you say won't leave this room. Was it Neil? Because if he did or said anything to hurt you, I swear I'll…"
"No…" She whispered. "I'm fine."
Billy sighed. "It's Johnny, isn't it?"
She bit her lip and tried not to look at him. But it was impossible not to see the slight resemblance. They had the same eyes, some of the same features. And that was all it took to send her over the edge.
