Part one

Hermoine could only curse the storm that raged outside. It was a brutal reminder of the night a few days ago when her life changed.

The rain had been going on for hours. Each new assault against the tall window of the library, each clap of thunder, each flash of lightening drew her out of the concentration she was fighting hard to maintain.

Hermoine tried again to loose herself in the large tomb in front of her. She had to find a way to counter the curse Malfoy had hexed her with. Otherwise, she would never be the same again.

As she turned the page of the book she wondered again what Harry, Ron and Ginny would do without her, because she knew that without the counter curse there was no way she would survive.

She lifted her hair back from her face and wished she had an elastic, but they were all in her room along with her wand and it wasn't a good idea to be sneaking through the house at 3:00 A.M. . Hermoine got up and moved to the other desk in the room, and decided to check the drawers. Maybe there would be an elastic in one of them. Goodness knows everything was a mess in the drawers. Molly did her best but things had been hectic lately so she had other things on her mind.

The burrow had been attacked. Everyone had been home and Harry and she had been visiting. When the death eaters had shown up. Before the night was over the house had been destroyed, Percy was dead, and she had been hexed.

Man it had been a bad week all around, she thought as her hand finally found the elastic she had been looking for.

As she tied up her hair she wondered again why life was the way it was. She had been so lost in her own thoughts that she didn't hear the door open. She didn't see or hear the person cross the room and stood just behind her until she heard a voice.

"What are you doing out of bed at this time of night?" the voiced asked in a deadly calm tone.

Hermoine spun around and clasping her chest with her hand looked up into the face of Professor Severous Snape and boy did he look mad.
