Monsters

Summary: Friedman finally cracks up. Some childhood monsters come and haunt him.

A/N: Ok, I know this is kinda crap but I've written it now so it's going up.

He sat next to her grave. He was shivering, soaked by the rain. The only light was coming from the lights that Joan had put there the night before. When he was little, he used to be terrified of the dark. He'd sit there for hours with his eyes wide open, determined not to fall asleep in case the monsters got him. He could imagine the monsters, snarling at him, bearing their teeth.

Then his mom would come in, wrapping him in her arms, whispering in his ears that everything was going to be fine, that his monsters weren't real. He never quite believed her but there was something in her voice that made him forget, just for the night. He laughed when he remembered her tickling him and pretending to shoo the monsters away. His laughter turned into sobs as he thought of her. And how she'd left him. Just like the rest. Just like her…

His hand touched the wet, cold stone surface. She was gone. There was nothing for him now. He might as well be dead. After all, death was nothing if it meant that he could see her face again. She was so beautiful. He bet she was making a perfect angel… There was a flicker. The lights had gone out. He laughed quietly.

"Guess it's just us now, eh? You and me…"

A searing pain erupted in his stomach. He doubled over, clutching the source. Still he was laughing.

"Tell heaven I'm coming Jude!"

His breathing was rapid and shallow.

Complete darkness fell over them.

Silence taking over.

Monsters creeping up…

Finito. Let me know what you think.
