"Because he was my husband." Sigrid admits, not daring herself to look at Jeremy. She hoped she hadn't betrayed his trust by withholding this tidbit of information from him.

To be fair, 'husband' wasn't exactly sufficient, but it was the safest and most familiar term to describe the complex relationship she had with the Mikaelson siblings. In addition to this, she really had been married to Niklaus, so it wasn't exactly a lie either.

She thinks back with fondness to her wedding day. All the Mikaelsons had pitched in on the special day, including her father-in-law.

Niklaus had been the first of the Mikaelson children to get married, and even Mikael had to curb his spiteful demeanor that day. Sigrid even dared to say there was a glimmer of pride in the patriarch's eyes. The passage rite to manhood was important for any father.

"Hello? Earth to Jeremy?" Damon mocks. He tries to capture the boy's attention by dramatically waving his hand in front of Jeremy's face

Jeremy slowly turns his head, glares at Damon, and swats the vampire's hand away. "Don't be a dick."

"Then please, do tell what our mystery ghost girl shared with you?"

"She has a name." Rose warns. The last thing they needed was a pissed-off ghost who might have a solution to their struggles.

"She was married to him." Jeremy mutters, loud enough for the vampires to hear.

Rose lets out a small gasp, automatically flinching away from the table. She knew it was in her best interest to fear Elijah and Niklaus, but this new factor was unpredictable. Would Niklaus's wife bear the same cruel nature and severe temper?

To make matters worse, she had allowed Damon to ridicule and insult Niklaus's wife during the entirety of this meeting without realizing it.

"What? Klaus had a wife? The big bad Original was married?" Damon's look of disbelief could be considered insulting to Sigrid. Especially seeing as he had pronounced the last word as something particularly unpleasant.

He couldn't imagine the man he had heard so much bad about, as a doting husband, and he wondered what kind of person that would make Sigrid by agreeing to marry such a vicious being.

"Go ahead, no need to hide your incredulity." Sigrid deadpans before turning towards Jeremy. "I was married to him when we were both still humans."

"They were both humans when they got married." Jeremy repeats, eyes not leaving Sigrid's. The girl hadn't let much information loose about the origin of the Original family, and wondered how they had gone from human to the first vampires.

"Great."

"In a way, I was part of Klaus and Elijah's family, they took me in at a young age. It was expected for me to marry one of the sons. So I did." Esther had already hinted at marriage with one of her sons when Sigrid had only been ten.

She remembers how Esther often commented on how well she and the Mikaelson children got along. And that one day she would make a beautiful bride and bless the witch with many grandchildren. Without the witch's interference, that dream vision had surely ensued.

Sigrid swallows as her pondering is interrupted by yet another snide comment from the Salvatore vampire.

"That doesn't sound like a happy wife, happy life sort of situation." Damon mutters, not voicing his surprise at discovering Niklaus and Elijah's familial connection. He narrows his eyes a little at the vampire beside him, Rose hadn't told him that.

"No, you're wrong. I was incredibly happy, but then tragedy hit. Long story short, I died. And now I'm stuck here."

Jeremy hesitates upon seeing Sigrid's upset expression, but repeats the words.

Damon is about to make another unfit comment when something across the Grill captures his attention.

"What's wrong?" Rose whispers, noticing Damon's shift in focus.

"It seems like our furry friend over there survived the night." Damon snarls, eyes tracking Jules. He wasn't really disappointed with her survival, seeing as this would give him an excuse to give her the Mason treatment. He hadn't been certain that the wolf that had attacked them was Jules, but seeing as she was the only werewolf he had pissed off, he did the math.

"She's the wolf that attacked you?" Jeremy asks, following Damon's gaze.

"Jules." Damon whispers, watching the woman joining Sheriff Forbes at the bar. He shares a knowing look with Alaric.

"Should we do something?" Rose mumbles, shoulders tensing.

"No. I will deal with it." Damon declares before clearing his throat. "So, what does any of this have to do with Rose?" He asks.

"Rose can contact Elijah for a meeting, seeing as she has done so before."

"You, a high schooler, want to meet with Elijah? Are you insane?"

"I could ask you the same thing, trying to one-up my Elijah." Sigrid scoffs before continuing to mutter under her breath. "Stupid, cocky, arrogant, self-serving-"

"What did she say?" Damon narrows his eyes after seeing Jeremy's facial expression, hoping to not look stupid for glaring at the air.

"I'm not repeating that." Jeremy mutters. He was far too fond of his limbs to have them torn off by a pissed-off vampire.

"Fine, repeat this. Rose will also be present during this meeting, Damon can not." Sigrid nods. She hadn't told Jeremy of the ritual that had to be done to unlock Niklaus's werewolf side, but she was certain Elijah would soon bestow that fact upon everyone.

"Ouch, excluding me from your special get-together." Damon comments dryly, feigning a heartbroken expression.

"You will only manage to piss him off." Jeremy offers, relieved to see Sigrid's nod of confirmation.

"You did kill him, with a coat rack." Rose adds, shrugging a little. She couldn't blame the ghost for not wanting Damon present.

"Yes, about that-" Sigrid begins rising from her chair, ready to admonish the rude Salvatore, only to be cut off by Rose.

"I absolutely do not mean to offend, Sigrid, but why would Elijah do anything for his deceased sister-in-law?" Rose asks, trying to keep her expression as neutral as possible, her voice free from accusation.

Damon momentarily halts his grumbling to also stare at the space beside Jeremy, curious to know the answer.

Sigrid plops back down onto the chair, a little confused. She had never considered herself to be a sister-in-law of any of the Mikaelsons, she had only ever been their friend and later on their mate. The new label felt strange, and she didn't like it very much, it sounded far too distant for describing the bond she shared with Elijah.

Seeing Jeremy's worried expression, she recovers herself.

"Elijah has always provided for my needs and wants." Sigrid allows a small blush to creep onto her cheeks. Once more, not a lie, seeing as he really had provided her with everything she could have asked for.

Rose nods, not sure what to make of this. But she knew that once the Original family would have gone through hell for each other in the past. Sigrid had surely been a component of that past.

"Once again, incredibly vague." Damon complains.

"Don't be mistaken, I am over a thousand years old. And my relationship with Elijah is beyond your comprehension. He will do my bidding, once convinced of my continued existence." Sigrid's tone turns icy as she stares at Damon.

Rose clears her throat upon hearing Jeremy's translation and decides to steer the conversation in friendlier waters. "Why do you want to save Elena, Sigrid?"

"Jeremy has lost enough. I care for Jeremy, and he cares for his sister, which means that she will not be taken from him." Sigrid explains matter-of-factly, not ashamed to speak her affections for the boy she had met only yesterday.

"Thank you." Jeremy mumbles after voicing Sigrid's reply. He twists the hand that laid on his knee, turning it over for Sigrid to place hers on top of it.

Sigrid gladly accepts this small offering. Hand holding went a lot easier when the other person participated.

"And what do you get out of this?" Rose asks carefully. Despite Sigrid not being able to harm her physically, she didn't want to test the limits of a spirit.

"I get to help Jeremy, and I will get to communicate with Elijah again. Maybe he can find a way for me to get out of here." Sigrid concedes.

"Where is this 'here' you mention?" Damon asks after impatiently awaiting Jeremy's translation.

"The Other Side." Rose replies instead. During her life on the run, she had picked up on a few things, including the phenomenon of the Other Side. The infamous place awaited every supernatural being after death.

Jeremy turns his head to face Sigrid, waiting for confirmation.

"It could be it? I don't know." Sigrid admits, blinking a little at the revelation. Finally, she had a name for the place she had been residing for over a thousand years.

"What side?" Damon rubs his temples, trying to suppress the upcoming headache. Dealing with a ghost girl, a not-so-dead werewolf, and the stinging rejection of Elena was getting to him. His week couldn't get much worse.

"Supernatural beings go to an isolated place. They can see the living, but not interact with them." Rose explains, having learned this of a vampire who was miraculously brought back to life.

"But, Sigrid's human." Jeremy protests.

Damon clears his throat, distracted by Jules exiting the Grill. "Maybe we can speculate about this at another time?"

"Don't worry, Rose-Marie. You have already gathered Elijah's forgiveness, and if all works out, you will fall under the protection of the Mikaelsons, you will become untouchable in some form." Sigrid vows, trying to get back to the conversation at hand. She knew it was easier to gain people's loyalty with gentle persuasion and sincerity rather than crude words and threats.

Rose drops her head, a clear sign of gratitude.

"Hold up, she can't make promises like this?" Damon asks, his face scrunched up with confusion and irritation.

"Damon, you must understand. You are an infant in comparison to Elijah, Klaus, and Rose. Your opinion on this matters little, but I do believe you care deeply for the doppelgänger, and you will do your utmost best to keep her alive."

Damon snarls at this. He didn't appreciate being treated like a child, by a ghost, and Jeremy nonetheless, but also understood that this wasn't the time to be impulsive, not until he had found a better solution.

"One more thing. We do ask for your discretion. You can not tell anyone of my existence. Word will travel fast and it will reach enemies. I assume you do not wish for an ancient war to take place in your beloved hometown?"

"Fine." Damon reluctantly agrees before grabbing Rose's arm and walking her towards the exit. The pair is swiftly followed by Alaric.

Sigrid sighs. "Do you think he will keep his mouth shut?"

"He will tell Stefan and Alaric." Jeremy winces a little, knowing Damon isn't exactly a secret keeper.

Sigrid nods, having expected this. "If he becomes a liability, there will be no other option than-"

"I know."

"I do hope it won't come to that."

"Me too."

A/N: I'm not exactly sure what the scooby gang did and did not know of Elijah and Niklaus, so do excuse any errors on my behalf for not being canon. Let's call it creative freedom. :) I also think Rose must have known of Niklaus and Elijah's familial relationship, she just hadn't mentioned this to the gang specifically in chapter 4.

Also, seeing as Damon successfully stabbed Jules in her chest as a wolf, I decided that she would have probably cowered away, and didn't attack those campers like in the show.

I hope you enjoyed the chapter :)

Lots of love,
