"I would."
"Mr. Saltzman?" Daisy asks softly, looking worriedly at the crossbow her teacher was pointing at her and Elijah. She had no idea her teacher was also involved in the supernatural, although it did explain why he had advised her to stay away from the Mikaelsons.
Elijah instinctively pulls Daisy behind him, protectiveness flaring up at the sight of the hunter. He did not think the man could do much harm, seeing as he was an Original, but Elijah wasn't one for taking risks when it came to his mate's safety. He curses himself and his brothers for their negligence. They should have expected this after an unusual period of peace, but he and his brothers had been very occupied with the discovery of their mate.
"Daisy." Alaric looks slightly taken aback at the sight of his student and he made a mental note to strangle Damon when all of this was done. It had not been part of the deal to put his student in harm's way.
"Please don't hurt us." Daisy begs softly, eyes still focused on the weapon. The Mikaelsons had told her that wooden stakes killed vampires, so it wasn't hard to guess what her teacher was planning on doing with the stake-loaded crossbow.
Alaric contemplates his student for a second. It was clear Daisy was aware of the existence of vampires, he had overheard her and Elijah talk about vervain. He shook his head in frustration. He hated that more and more young people were getting involved with the dangers of the supernatural world. Besides that, he was pissed at the Mikaelsons for being so intent on harassing Daisy. He hadn't wanted her to fall victim to their games, he had wanted to protect her. 'You can still do that' Alaric thought to himself. "Get inside Daisy."
"Alaric, you do not get to order my Daisy around." Elijah remarks coldly, not at all appreciating all he had been hearing about Alaric's nosiness regarding his mate. He notices how he slipped up and let his possessive streak come forth but he could care less. Right now his main priority was Daisy's safety and there was no way he would let her get inside the Grill again where anyone could grab her at any moment. Elijah was certain that the Salvatores weren't above the sacrifice of a human to achieve their goal, whatever that goal might be.
Daisy peeks past Elijah's shoulder, only to scowl at her teacher. There was no way she would abandon her friend, even if there was a scary crossbow involved. One of her hands grab onto Elijah's, squeezing it nervously while grabbing onto the back of his jacket with her other hand, scared something might happen if she were to let him go.
She wasn't sure what her teacher wanted to do but judging by the stern expression and his weapon, it wasn't going to be an invite to a tea party. Daisy contemplated if she should siphon a little from Elijah, but decides against it. Kol had warned her not to use her powers in front of people. She was certain Elijah could protect her, he was old and he surely would have fought before. She resolves to ask Kol to teach her a protection spell once they got out of this situation, she disliked feeling this vulnerable.
Elijah clears his throat, not at all enjoying the sensation of the trembling girl behind him, it reminded him of how she had trembled when he tried to compel her. No one had the right to frighten his mate so, including him. "Now, you've had your little spotlight moment, I suggest you reconsider whatever it was you wanted to do and go home."
"Can't do that."
Daisy turns around, letting go of Elijah's jacket but still holding onto his hand. Her face falls when she sees the Salvatore brothers. She knew Damon was mean and nosy but she had really liked Stefan and had even hoped to be close friends with him. Daisy's thoughts of Stefan's betrayal are interrupted by a clicking sound. It takes her a second to realize it must have been the crossbow trigger, and another second to squeeze her eyes shut, waiting for the pain that would surely come.
Elijah turns and quickly catches the well-aimed stake before it can harm either Daisy or him. His victory however is short-lived when another stake is fired, this time by one of the Salvatores, hitting Elijah in his side. Elijah snarls and yanks the stake out, letting go of Daisy's hand in the process.
Daisy doesn't know how to help so she does the next best thing she can think of, calling for help. "Finn! Kol! Help!" Daisy shouts, looking around, hoping to catch sight of one of the Mikaelsons. "Re-"
"Stop shouting." Damon hisses annoyedly while harshly grabbing Daisy from behind. He firmly clamps one of his hands on the girl's mouth while dragging her away from Elijah.
Elijah growls warningly, not exactly enjoying the sight of another man treating his mate rudely. He is just about to shoot forward when he feels a familiar ache in his chest. Startled, he looks up into Matt's face.
Daisy kicks furiously with her legs, trying desperately to free herself from Damon's hold. She freezes and looks on in horror as Matt stabs Elijah in his chest. She hadn't seen Matt appear and couldn't believe he was able to kill someone, let alone her friend.
Tears are streaming down her face as she watches Elijah turning grey. Niklaus had explained to her what would happen if a vampire were to die and it had sounded horrible to her, but nothing could have prepared her for the sight before her.
"Stefan! Do it!" Damon growls, growing annoyed with the upset girl. The sooner they had eliminated all of the Originals, the better.
Stefan looks dishearted at the struggling girl who should not have been dragged into this mess. He squeezes the white oak stake tighter in his hand while approaching Elijah's unconscious form.
Daisy bites down hard on Damon's palm, making the vampire retract his hand. She wasn't certain what Stefan wanted to do with the other stake, but she wouldn't allow him to harm Elijah even further, even if he was already dead.
"Let me go, stupid vampire!" Daisy shouts, before remembering her powers. Kol might not want her to use her magic in public, but this could surely be considered an exception. She immediately clasps her hand around Damon's wrist, a determined look on her face. She was set on draining each and every last drop of magic from Damon. Daisy didn't know if she could actually siphon a vampire to death, but it seemed like today she would find out.
"What the hell?!" Damon shouts at the painful sensation while struggling to not accidentally loosening his grip on the girl.
"Damon?" Stefan halts in his movements, looking at his brother and Daisy. He wasn't sure what the girl was doing, but it didn't seem pleasant at all. He had never expected Daisy to be a supernatural creature of some sort.
Damon is about to break Daisy's neck, more than fed up with whatever it was she was doing. But before he gets the chance he feels a firm hand on his neck and his world goes dark.
As soon as Niklaus snaps Damon's neck he grabs hold of Daisy, who dissolves into sobs into his arms, beyond upset at what she had just witnessed.
Before Stefan can run or finish the task at hand, Rebekah speeds up to him, swiftly snapping his neck as well. "What a dick move to attack someone in an alley." Rebekah scoffs, kicking Stefan's unconscious body for good measure.
Rebekah walks to the back door of the Grill, following Matt, who had fled when he saw Niklaus speeding into the alley. She wouldn't let Matt get away with his attempt at taking her brother's life. In addition, Rebekah thought it was high time Daisy started looking for another job so she would be sure to have a little chat with the manager.
Kol follows Rebekah's lead and breaks Alaric's neck, not bothering to check if the man was wearing his beloved Gilbert ring. He did not think one dead history teacher would be a great loss to this world.
"They killed him, they killed Elijah. I'm so sorry." Daisy weeps while curling herself up on Niklaus's lap, not able to look at Elijah's unmoving form.
"Shh Daisy, it is alright, love." Niklaus whispers as he gently strokes Daisy's hair. "Elijah is not dead."
The slightest sense of relief settles itself in Daisy's stomach upon hearing these words. She takes a shuddering breath before daring to lift her head from Niklaus's chest to look at Elijah. She furrows her brow and looks back up at Niklaus, she didn't want to question his integrity, but Elijah seemed pretty dead to her.
"Normal vampires die by regular wood." Niklaus comments, smiling softly upon seeing her skeptical look. He carefully brushes her tears away. "We die temporarily and come back. We can only die by-"
"White oak." Kol interrupts.
Niklaus rolls his eyes in annoyance. He did not like to be interrupted while speaking to his mate or interrupted at all for that matter. He looks up from Daisy to glare at his little brother when he sees what he's holding up.
"Is that?" Niklaus narrows his eyes, not believing what he was seeing.
Niklaus hands Daisy over to Finn, who eagerly wraps his arms around his mate, nosing at her temple. The idea of losing his mate to some inferior vampires and humans was unacceptable to him. He would make sure the culprits would suffer after they had solved this white oak business. Finn had no idea how there could be any white oak seeing as his siblings had burned the tree, but stranger things had happened in the supernatural world.
Rebekah joins them swiftly, dragging the unconscious form of Matt behind her, before carelessly dropping him on top of Damon. As soon as she sees the stake she snatches it from Kol's hands.
"What is wrong?" Daisy whispers, before letting out a yawn, the excitement and stress of the events exhausted her.
Finn is about to explain when he sees Niklaus's warning expression and a vague hand gesture. "It's alright, my love. We will explain all of this later." Finn promises. He presses a kiss to Daisy's forehead before lifting her up and speeding her over to their house, followed by Kol who was not interested in entertaining the annoying Salvatores and their human backup.
Niklaus watches the three disappear from view. He wanted his mate far away from here, where danger might still lurk. He did not want to burden her with any action they would have to take against the three.
Elijah gasps as he returns to life. He immediately sits up and looks around until his eyes land on his siblings. "Where is Daisy?" Elijah couldn't hide the slightly panicked tone in his voice, inner animal beyond worried for the safety of his mate.
"She's safe. Finn and Kol are taking her home." Rebekah promises, smiling briefly at Elijah before turning serious again.
"What exactly happened?" Niklaus demands, beyond upset with Elijah for endangering not only himself but their mate as well. If Daisy got physically hurt while under Elijah's protection he would put his brother down himself.
"They spiked the bourbon with vervain, deceitful pests," Elijah grumbles while rubbing his chest, glaring at the blood-stained front of his shirt. "Daisy got me outside, not wanting us to draw too much attention and we got ambushed. Only the reason escapes me, they killed me, but it was of no use unless they wanted to lock me up or kidnap me."
"They did not really kill you, but they were about to." Rebekah muses wryly while waving the white oak stake for Elijah to see.
• • •
"You killed my teacher." Daisy comments carefully, hoping to not sound too accusing. She had been certain the Mikaelsons wouldn't hurt her but she wasn't so sure now, judging by the ease of them killing the Salvatores and Alaric.
"Yes I did." Kol confirms, nodding his head a little. "But he will come back." Kol adds after receiving an elbow to the ribs from Finn, who thought his little brother was being insensitive. Kol now hoped deeply that the hunter had indeed worn his Gilbert ring.
The three had settled themselves on Finn's bed. Daisy had put on one of Rebekah's pajamas after Kol's prompting and was now under an abundance of blankets. Finn had once again provided his mate with a warm beverage and sweets, hoping they would console his distressed mate a little.
Daisy looks at her hands, which were clasping her teacup while trying to sort her chaotic thoughts. She hesitates but then decides to ask the question that had been running through her mind for a while. "Do you know what happened to Jason and Sophie?"
The brothers exchange an uncomfortable look, not sure if and how they should respond to this. They had never wished for their mate to discover what had happened to the cheating teenagers. The brothers had only wanted to eliminate the cause for Daisy's pain. They were certain Daisy had never wished ill on the two teenagers, but the Mikaelson men had felt justified to retaliate toward them most brutally. In their eyes, no one had the right to hurt their mate, but they couldn't exactly tell her that.
Finn opens and closes his mouth a few times, not certain how to start. "We-"
"We got rid of them." Kol cuts Finn off, wanting to rip the band-aid off as quickly as possible. The sooner Daisy knew, the sooner she would forgive them and they could go back to cuddling, doing magic, and having fun.
Daisy blinks at Kol, not exactly surprised by this answer. "So you... killed them?"
Kol nods, smiling gently at his mate. He took Daisy's lack of anger or tears as a positive sign.
"Why?" Daisy knew the Mikaelsons had killed plenty of people seeing as they were vampires and she was certain Jason and Sophie weren't the first teenagers they had killed. She thinks back to Elijah's possessive words and protective attitude earlier tonight during the confrontation with Alaric. Daisy had been compliant with the affections she received from the brothers, but she wanted clarity about exactly what was going on. She wanted to know if this was friendship or something more.
"Because they hurt you." Kol replies in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Kol, you guys can't just kill someone because they hurt me." Daisy shakes her head a little, not wanting to sound pedantic. She understood that to thousand-year-old vampires two teenage lives didn't matter much, but in her eyes it did.
"Of course we can, no one gets to hurt you and get away with it. I wouldn't allow it." Niklaus interjects as he walks into the bedroom. The hybrid also takes a seat on the bed and leans his back against one of the bedposts, gazing interestedly at his little mate who looked adorable under the heap of blankets.
He, Elijah, and Rebekah had dragged the hunter, the quarterback, and the Salvatores back to the mansion, locking them up securely in the basement. Niklaus had wanted to question them right away but decided he needed to check up on his mate first.
"I don't understand why. I might not have had the best experience of friendship in the past, but I am pretty certain friends don't usually kill on their friend's behalf." Daisy lets out a small huff, not believing she was having this conversation in the first place.
"We're not friends." Niklaus grumbles, growing annoyed at being labeled as a mere 'friend' by his soulmate. Elijah had been insistent on giving Daisy some time to adjust to the whole idea of the supernatural world existing before dropping the truth on her, but Niklaus's patience was running out.
"We're not?" Daisy looks taken aback, hoping she had misheard the hybrid.
"Niklaus." Finn scolds, as he sees Daisy's hurt expression.
Kol glares at his brother before flinging a pillow in his face. Niklaus had some nerve to talk about killing people that hurt Daisy and then proceed to hurt Daisy himself.
Niklaus lets out an annoyed snarl and shoves Kol off the bed before turning back to Daisy to answer her question. "No, we're not. We're more than that, we're-"
" Niklaus !" Elijah growls in warning as he too enters the bedroom, fixing his brother with a menacing glare. He understood his brother's impatience, but since an awful lot had already happened tonight, he didn't think it wise to tell his mate about their bond now. Elijah purposefully ignores Kol, who crawls back onto the bed, glaring daggers at Niklaus.
"Elijah!" Daisy jumps off the bed, almost tripping over the many blankets before throwing herself against Elijah, hugging him tightly. She had been relieved when Niklaus told her Elijah was in fact alive, but seeing the evidence now allowed her to really believe it.
Elijah lovingly hugs his mate back, planting a kiss on the top of her head. It had saddened him to hear that his mate had spilled tears over his temporary death but he was secretly glad to know she truly cared for him. "I'm here, Elskan. All safe."
"Great, now that Elijah has returned in good health," Niklaus gets up from the bed and gently pulls Daisy out of Elijah's arms, still annoyed with his brother's rather rude interruption.
Daisy reluctantly lets Niklaus herd her back to the bed, she wouldn't have minded staying in Elijah's arms a bit longer after being so worried for him.
Niklaus ignores Daisy's slight pout and carefully drapes a few blankets over his mate, tucking it in the sides, making sure she was warm and comfortable. "It is time to tell you the truth."
"This is hardly the time, Niklaus." Elijah objects promptly, chest puffing out a little as if challenging his brother to object to his decision further.
Niklaus of course seizes the opportunity to challenge his older brother, not at all charmed by Elijah's self-righteousness. "Alright, when do you want to tell her Elijah? When she's sixty?! Things like tonight can happen again and again. She needs to know."
"It can wait."
"No, it can't." Finn interjects while taking hold of Daisy's hand, who started to anxiously fidget with the blankets. She was curious to know what exactly the Mikaelsons had been hiding from her. Niklaus's words of being more than friends repeat themselves in her head.
"Finn, you can't-" Elijah scoffs, narrowing his eyes at his older brother. He was not used to being contradicted by his older brother.
"Daisy deserves to know." Finn decides, shooting Elijah a stern look. Elijah might have taken on the paternal role in the past centuries, but this was Finn's decision and he wasn't above knocking Elijah out again if he were to question him.
"Tomorrow morning." Elijah tries.
Finn thinks it over for a second before nodding in agreement. His mate looked in need of some sleep. Tomorrow they would tell her.
A/N:
Hiya dear reader,
In this book there are no scenes with just the Scooby gang, so you as the reader are just as much in the dark of the plans and actions of the Scooby gang as the Mikaelsons and Daisy are
This is why the white oak came out of nowhere.
In this book there was never a scenario of Rebekah and Elena in the caverns, so none of the Mikaelsons were aware of the cave drawings which tells us about the Original family and the white oak tree.
If I remember correctly Alaric, Elena, etc, had already been studying the drawings and symbols, trying to figure them out. In my logic, the gang had found their meaning and did some puzzling and therefore discovered the white oak bridge and sign. (perhaps I'm giving the gang too much credit, who knows) I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
Lots of love,
