C h a p t e r I The Letter and the latter
School grounds, Wisteria High, 2 p.m.
" It was all yellow and blue that just kept playing in my head." "It was something about the stars and the moon……", exclaimed Ginnie . " That was all she said as she died on the dead bed , with her cold iced hands in my very fingers ." Ginnie continued as her face turned paler than a white chalk. Her head still nodding in disbelief of her friend's departure.
"What about the yellow and blue, and the stars and the moon, what about it!" Jack questioned in a hush tone , as though he was a police questioning a murder suspect.
"Jack, I wish I knew I wish I knew", Ginnie continued as she relieves a deep sigh of guilt and remorse. "It's a message." "But what it is, I don't know"
"Do you think it has something to do with her death?" Ginnie continued in a rather hush tone, as though afraid of bringing up the subject.
"Maybe", Jack answered after a long pause of silence. " I know it's not my business , but something tells me that Luca's death is more than some suicide . " Look at this."
(Opens an envelope, takes out a slip and passes it to Ginnie)
"Here read it" Jack instructed. Ginnie cleared her throat and took a deep breath thinking that she was preparing for the worst. Maybe Luca's suicide note in the clutch of her hands. As she opened , the first thing that flew across her eyes were the words " Balladerie's Music School of Representatives" As her eyes scrolled down the slip , Ginnie suddenly paused and slowly look up at Jack with a frown.
"What about it?" "It's just Luca's application form to a music school, a really nice one too." Ginnie exclaimed, as though Jack was anymore interested to know that.
"No, it's not that" "Look at the dates of the application form, when Luca actually submitted it" Jack continued hurriedly before letting Ginnie make anymore of her assumptions.
" It's dated 6th April year 2005….." Ginnie read out. " With hands clutched to her mouth her face as white as feather , and her heavy breathing , Jack knew well that Ginnie now understood the problem . "This must be a mistake" Ginnie exclaimed hurriedly." It must be, Jack. It must be", she continued.
Jack stood in silence. The kind of silence that revealed a deep sense of thought. Was he thinking deep of the words to say to Ginnie OR was he having flashbacks of Luca's death? We'll (readers) never know for sure. What if , at some point , Luca's death was not just a notch that ended her life. What if there was actually a string of events that led to her death on the 7th April, just a day after she applied for place in a music school . Well that is "what if ".
"Jack!" "Jack!" Ginnie shouted .Jack felt as though a hard , wood-like bat had landed on his left arm causing him to awaken from his deep thought.
" Hoaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"( Jack let out a heavy breath . So heavy that the mist of his breath was not far from being obvious that cold evening in Wisteria High.)
"Are you okay?" Ginnie asked with a frown. "Yea...," he replied." Ummmmmm Ginnie, promise me one thing...", Jack continued hurriedly ,as he sliped the letter back into his schoolbag . "You did not see or hear anything from me, okay?" Jack continued, as he looked straight into her eyes and his hands on Ginnie's head , one on each of her ears .
( Ginnie nodded hestitantly )
"Thanks!" (Jack stormed off hurriedly)
