Doomguy reawakens from his long sleep. He starts coughing and punches the pod door, while hearing the computer announcer saying "Critical failure in Cryogenic Array. All Vault residences must vacate immediately."

His pod finally opens, and he collapses onto the floor after getting out of the pod too early. As soon as he got the feel of his body again, he stands back up and checks the surrounding area to find he was the only one still in his pod, while everyone else is completely gone. He would stare back at Samus' pod and remembers what happen to her, and knowing both she and John are still alive, he now has a job to do.

His walk through the Vault has shown the place has been completely abandon, as every supply inside this Vault is completely gone with only empty bottles and little scraps. There was nothing for him here to eat, but what came next was his fight against large cockroaches. He was surprise to see these things so big, but he fought things ten times worse than these little creatures, so he easily crushes them all with the bottom of his foot. How long has it been?

His journey reaches a dead end when the door in front of him refuses to open for him. He looks back towards the desk nearby with a computer still available for use. He also finds a few stim packs he could use, as well as a pistol that lays on the floor with a full magazine clip still inside of it. He examines the gun for a moment, which triggers a flashback of the time when he fought the armies of Hell with a pistol powerful enough to fire over a hundred rounds without even reloading.

"This'll do." Doomguy mutters, then looks back towards the computer and tries to find the means of unlocking the door. He would find the words [Open Evacuation Tunnel] so that was a simple thing to click. It took a couple of seconds, but the door finally opens up for him to escape. Before leaving, he checks around the room to find a few more cases of ammunition for his gun, as well as the sight of another weapon that was stuck inside a seal case that requires a master lock picker to break through. Doomguy was not going to master his lock picking, so he decides to use brute force to break open the case. Though this was not as strong as the pods, he manage to break open the case off the wall and releases the Cryolater from the case. Sadly, there is no ammo for the gun, so he sticks with the pistol and his fists for now when leaving the room.

After another case of fighting more large cockroaches, and using the opportunity to use his pistol as target practices, he succeeds in wiping out the lot of them without taking any damage from them. This whole thing made him remember the first time he did something like this. He remembers running through hallways with his pistol or shotgun, continued killing everything that was in front of him that was no longer human. He still remembers every bit of it, and Samus was the only one to comfort him about this. He could really use her right now.

At long last he reaches the end of the Vault. No way can he force his way out of this, but thankfully a skeleton nearby was kind enough to give him a Pip Boy. After all this time, this little gadget was still operation to be use to do anything he desire, so he got to work on checking the status of the Pip Boy, then turn his attention towards the main controls to help him open up the Vault. He punches the red button and the sequences is initiated.

"Vault door cycling sequences initiated. Please stand back." The computer announcer said and the machines continues to do their work on unlocking the main Vault door. He can finally get out of here as soon as the door opens up to lead him back towards the elevator platform.

Doomguy has no idea how long he has been down here, and unsure what the world is going to be as soon as he reach the surface. Knowing what he last saw on the surface, he was going to feel overwhelm by the damage that has cause to this world.

The platform on the surface descends down to the bottom, and Doomguy stands in the middle of it the moment it finally made it to the floor. He looks back and remembers the time where he and Samus came here together with John. They came here together, but he was left behind inside the pods. He has so many questions he wants to know, and he will get those answers eventually.

As he arrives on the surface, he covers his eyes at the feel of the sun shining over the valley and rendering him blind for a couple of seconds. As soon as he got his eyesight back, he walks off the platform and got the view of the entire area in front of him. Devastated at what he saw because he once saved this world from the apocalypse, and humanity responds by destroying itself, which made his victory for nothing. This also brought back memories when he came back home to find his hometown was completely torn apart by the armies of Hell. He was the only one to survive in his hometown, and the Demons made him suffer by leaving his rabbit on a pike for him to see.

His hometown, Sanctuary, has become completely different since the last time he was here. All of the buildings are completely torn down and rebuilt in a more rough design by the new residents. Sanctuary has now become one of the new colony for the people of the commonwealth, all thanks to the Minutemen. The last surviving member of the Minuteman, rounded the surviving people with him and found Sanctuary a perfect place to make a new home. Eventually, more places nearby decide to abandon their locations and decide to travel here for safety against all the dangers in the commonwealth. Started off with five people, then twelve within a few days, and they now hold a population of over forty people and a good community.

Doomguy retrace his steps by going down the same pathway he went with Samus during the evacuation. As soon as he was getting closer to the settlement, someone saw him and quickly alerts the others. Preston Garvey was the first on the scene and aims the barrel of his rifle towards Doomguy.

"That's close enough, stranger. Identify yourself."

Doomguy stares at him and remains silent. He still held onto the gun with his right hand and slowly putting one finger on the trigger.

"No way…. Look at that suit he's wearing." One of the people says when looking at surprise at his blue suit.

"Impossible… You're a Vault dweller?" Another person asks

"It doesn't matter right now." Preston replies "Things can be peaceful between the both of us if you put that gun away."

Doomguy looks to his gun for a moment and decides to toss it to the ground in front of Preston. "You're not my enemy, and if you were I would've killed you by now."

"Well… I'm flattered?"

Suddenly a familiar voice calls out from behind the group of people. It gasps with shock to see Doomguy and replies "As I live and breathe…" Somehow, the robot Codsworth is still very much active after all this time. He hovers through the crowd and comes closer towards Doomguy "It's… It's REALLY you!"

"Codsworth… You survived." Doomguy replies

"Of course I survived. I've been here all this time, waiting for you and your wife and son to return to have dinner."

"Wait, you know this guy?" Preston asks

"He's the landlord of the house I've been protecting." Codsworth replies "And I see you've taken up a new look. I take it the missus approves? Where is the wife, by the way?"

"She…. It's just me right now… And neither is my son."

"You're the only survivor from your Vault?" Preston asks "How? How did this happen?"

"They were taken from me." Doomguy steps closer to the group and asks "Where's my house."

They decide to invite him into the settlement and brought him to what was once his house. His house, like many around this place was completely demolish and rebuilt by the people here. They use the materials that remain lying around the place, as well as stealing more resources by either demolishing nearby buildings or buy off some materials elsewhere. This community now has power, strong defences, purify water, food and communications to contact with other nearby smaller settlements.

Doomguy stands in front of his old house that was demolish and rebuilt by the community. They manage to make the design of the inside the same as the original, except it's not clean and pretty rough on the inside. He would stand in the lounge room, looking around the place and remembering some cherish memories he had here with Samus.

"How long have I been gone?" Doomguy asks

"It's been roughly 200 years since the world turn to shit." Preston responds "Are you the only survivor of that Vault?"

"I was left alone inside that Vault. Everyone else left me."

"That's messed up. Any idea why they left you behind?"

Doomguy sighs and turns his body to the side to look back at Preston with serious and replies "Because they know what I'm capable of."

"I don't know if I'm going to regret this or not, but…" Preston takes out the handgun from his back and offers it back to Doomguy "You're going to need help."

Doomguy looks to the gun for the moment, then looks to Preston and asks "I've got another weapon with no ammo. You got any ammo for this?" He offers them the Cryolater and takes back his handgun.

"Holy shit…" Preston looks with surprise at the Cryolater and shakes his head when examining the gun "I don't think we have the ammo for this weapon. But it might go off with a good price, so I'm sure you'll get a lot of caps from this by a merchant."

"Caps?"

"Caps are basically the money of this commonwealth. You're going to be needing a lot of it if you want to survive out there. If you want supplies and ammo, then you've got to need caps."

"Hmmmm."

"I don't think we could trade your weapon here, but I bet Sonja could do it."

"Sonja?"

"She works at Red Rocket. It's our main defence against any intruders from the north, and she's been a good asset to this community. She's also our general of the Minutemen, as well as a supposing member of the Brotherhood of Steel. I can introduce her to you. I'm sure she'll want that weapon off your back. And maybe she can give you some clothes to help you in this new world.

And so Doomguy decides to play along for the time being and follows Preston out of this place. He looks back one more time at his house to remember it one last time because this will be the last time he will ever come back here. He also said goodbye to Codsworth and let him remain here with the people.

The Red Rocket truck stop was more than what it originally was, as this entire place has strong fortifications, such as walls and new buildings around the main structure. The Red Rocket is home to the wonderer of the wasteland, named Sonja. This place is the fort to protect the Sanctuary and allow traders to pass through here. She found this place and made it into her home.

She was inside the garage, tinkering her power armour that took a few damage in the past, so now she has this chance of repairing the right arm and leg. The power armour is a T-60 class with a good paint of red and black hot rod flames. As for Sonja, she is in her late twenties with short red hair, and wears a black crop top, dark green pants with black boots and boots. Her protection is always her unique handgun she leaves in her gun pouch on the right side of her waist, and the gun is an AMT Hardballer with an actual long barrel laser sighting attach to the top of the gun.

The two easily got inside the interior and walks straight towards the open garage door to see her. Preston calls out to her, and she turns around and stands up straight when looking back at the two. She looks towards Doomguy and left surprise to see this stranger in a clean blue suit.

"Who the fuck are you?" Sonja asks and places her hands on her waist. It is shown that her face has three cut marks on the right side of her chin.

"General, this is…. Actually I don't think you actually told us your name."

"And I don't intent to." Doomguy replies

"Well… This stranger needs your help. He's a sole survivor from Vault 111."

"Holy shit. I've seen you people before, but never interacted with any of you." Sonja's eyes look down at his suit and back to his face, then shows a little smirk on her face at liking she is seeing. She asks "To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit from the man down under?"

"I need supplies, new clothes and a new gun. Can you help me with that?"

"That depends what I'll get in return?" Sonja turns away and looks back at her power armour when saying this "It's going to cost you, and I don't think you've got any caps on you."

"I have this." Doomguy walks to the right and drops the Crytolater onto the red bench.

Sonja looks back and asks "Where the hell did you get that? Actually… Never mind. Is it loaded?"

"No."

"Then the best I can do is trade you two hundred caps. You definitely need it for new clothes, so that's a start."

"Fine."

"Alright then. Preston, go help him out with whatever he needs."

"Understood, general." Preston nods and escorts Doomguy to another building behind the Red Rocket. It had a power armour inside, but was rusty and lacks the power core to use it. There was two beds and a few furniture with so much materials they could use to craft anything they need.

Doomguy was unable to get himself a new gun, but this was his chance to discard his jumpsuit and put on a different outfit to match the new world. When he came out of the building, he wore a black shirt with light green pants and a dark blue body armour that covers only his upper body and his shoulders. He also took a long belt to store shotgun shells and wraps it over the front of his chest.
[His outfit is based on the classic Doom 2 marine skin from Eternal]

"That's perfect." Preston replies when seeing the full completion of his outfit.

Doomguy offers him his jumpsuit and replies "I don't need this anymore."

"I'm sure someone in the settlement wouldn't mind wearing this." Preston replies and takes it out of his hands. He asks "So what are you going to do now? Do you have any leads of where to find your family?"

"I'll find the truth somewhere else."

"Then perhaps you should try Diamond City?" Preston replies "They have a bigger population, and someone there could help you find the answers."

"Where is it?"

"That Pip Boy on your arm. I'll mark it on your map. And while you're on your way there, there are a few hostile areas you should try to avoid, unless you feel like searching for any weapons and equipment to help you."

Doomguy looks back at the Pip Boy and opens up the map to see the entire area on this small little screen. Preston would take a look at it and tries to find the location to Diamond City, as well as marking other locations nearby.

"Diamond City was built over the baseball stadium in Fenway Park. I hope you get your answers there."

"And some action along the way." Sonja shows up and walks towards the two with a set of armour protecting on her body. She covers herself with grey armour that covers her upper body, shoulders and knees, while also carrying a grey flight helmet where the visor is completely darken to hide her face inside the helmet.

Doomguy looks down at her design outfit and recognises it in the past. "This…. Looks familiar." He starts to remember a time where he met his drill sergeant, before Hell went and tore through Mars. She wore a similar design just like what Sonja is wearing.

"What are you staring?" Sonja asks

"Nothing."

"Good. Now that you've finally got yourself ready for action, I've got a job for you."

"A job?"

"If you're going to Diamond City, there's a factory with raiders inside and I want you to kill them all."

"That's not happening." Doomguy replies

"Seriously? What, you've never killed a human being before?"

Doomguy thought about it for a moment and finally responds "Hmm, I've killed things you've never seen before in your life. But it's been a long time since I last killed someone. I'm only interested in one thing, and if anyone tries to get in my way, then I'll kill them."

Sonja sighs "What a pain in the ass." She turns around and whistles by placing her fingers in her mouth. Her canine companion, named Dogmeat, came out from one of the doors from Red Rocket and runs towards Sonja to stay beside her. She looks back at Doomguy and responds "We'll be tagging along with you, whether you like it or not."

And so after that the three leaves Red Rocket, while Preston remains behind to watch over this area. While Doomguy prefer to go by himself, he teams up with her on an adventure through the broken city.
