Takes place of 21 in IEG.
The childhood friends halted their walking by the time they reached the entrance of Raimon High, when they saw an unfamiliar - familiar - face.
Dull teal hair... brownish-gold eyes...
Tenma and the boy made eye contact, both sharing a look of surprise, however, the only blue-nette of the three did not notice how recognition flashes in their eyes. Tenma raises a brow, quirking his lips up a little as a thought occurs to him.
As if hearing his thoughts, the teal-haired boy simply smiles in reply. To the outside, it might look like a friendly smile, but Tenma could see the sharp and mischievous glint in his eyes before Kariya walks away, stepping inside the school.
As they both watch the boy's retreating form, Aoi looks at Tenma with a smile. "Now that's a new face."
Tenma briefly makes eye contact with her before giving a close eyed smile. "Mm, right?"
"I'm Kariya Masaki," the boy introduced himself in front of the class when the teacher glanced at him as a signal, "nice to meet you."
"Starting today, Kariya Misaki-kun will be joining our class. Make him feel welcome, okay?" The teacher turns to Kariya, "Your seat is over there," then turns back to the class. "Matsukaze."
With a laidback smile, Tenma happily says, "Yes!" as he stands up then gestures to the empty seat to his left behind him. "Here,"
Kariya walks over then stops when he is in front of the brunette, sending him a smile. "Thanks."
"No problem."
Just as Kariya walks away, Tenma sits back down calmly.
When class was over, Tenma volunteered to show the new student around. "Don't worry, Aoi," Tenma says with a reassuring smile as he and Aoi walk out of the classroom with Kariya silently following after Tenma. "It's alright. Have fun with Midori-senpai and Akane-senpai!"
Aoi gives Tenma a grateful smile before running off to meet the said upperclassmen to hang out with them.
"So, what brings you here, Agent Cazador?" Tenma chuckles teasingly just as the duo finally reached the rooftop, feeling the soft wind singing. Kariya, in return, merely snorts in amusement, especially when Tenma mentions his codename. "Homeschool is getting boring. I heard about the revolution so I decided to come in." He said with a grin.
Tenma raises a semi curious brow, crossing his arms as he leans against the railing with his right foot over the other. "Any particular reason?"
Now it's Kariya who raises his brow, seemingly surprised by Tenma's sudden seriousness, but he manages to hide it. If anything, he seemed amused about it and gives a sharp smile. "Ehh? Am I not allowed to join?"
Tenma's unamused brow remains the same.
Kariya pouts then sighs. "Came at a bad time, huh? Man, and here I thought I could cause some chaos around."
This time, Tenma gives a half humor chuckle. "At this point, your definition of chaos isn't exactly welcomed anymore."
Kariya shrugs, not caring anyways. "Shame." He said, then continued. "So... am I still allowed to join?"
Tenma scoffs, "Of course you are, since when are you not?"
"Since earlier when you start testing me."
"Aha."
"And besides," Kariya smiles, and Tenma could tell that it is genuine. "it's been a while since I last played." Tenma returns the smile, "Well then, guess you'll have to catch up."
"Planning on it." Kariya then smirks, "Though, I can't promise that I won't be causing any trouble."
Tenma sighs, whether good-naturally or exasperatedly, probably both. "I guess I should've expected that." Then, he lifted his eyebrows in curiosity, looking at Kariya with semi wide eyes. "By the way, how is Nomura-kun?"
"Nomura?" Kariya looks at him with a tilt of his head, looking like he was confused before his eyebrows raise for a moment before saying, "Ah, that idiot got shot."
Tenma pushes himself off the railing so that his back isn't touching the cold metal anymore. "What?!" He exclaimed, shock evident.
Kariya only stared and then said, "Kidding."
Tenma glares at the cackling Kariya after quickly recovering from his shock, then realizing that Kariya and Nomura aren't even official agents, and the government isn't that careless to let kids get sho—
Then he remembers that night.
Ah. Never mind.
Although that night didn't have anything to do with the government, it is, still technically, related to them.
Maybe... It's still debatable.
That doesn't mean he blames Karasuma-sensei though, they were sort of trapped in that island and they don't have any choice but to go retrieve those antidotes, and their main priority is to survive, so it wasn't any of Karasuma's fault.
He won't go any far into that, because you know, details.
Anyway, back to what he was saying, the government wouldn't just carelessly send kids to get shot, and even though Kariya and Nomura play some sort of bigger role, they are still minors; the only thing they do is assist the higher-ups or be assistants in general.
"Nomura is alright," Kariya's voice pulls Tenma out from his thoughts. "Apparently, he went on a vacation - bastard only replied with an 'ehehe' when I asked, you know how he is."
Tenma only chuckled good-naturally, sweatdropping a little.
After clearing his throat, Kariya says, "Anyway," and the mood changes to one of seriousness. While greyish-blue lit up in curiosity and with a hint of caution, brownish-gold sharpens. What he says next had Tenma straighten his back and stills in alarm.
"Anti-matter. I'm sure you're very familiar with it, right?"
Tenma's eyes narrow as he notices Kariya emphasizing a specific word, and he could distinctly feel a phantom feeling of something lingering on his back.
(Kariya glances at the almost invisible thin white strings coming out from different places on Tenma's head, each 'strings' stilling in alarm and caution as if they are ready to strike.
Tenma blinks naturally and those white strings disappear as Kariya's gaze returns to him.)
Kariya sighed, putting a hand over his hip as he looked down with his eyes closed. "What I'm about to say is something I don't have answers to what you'll be asking, so don't expect any from me."
Tenma stiffly nodded and waited in bated breath and the agent's mouth opened again, just as he looked up, his stern eyes meeting the former's shocked ones as soon as he utters those words.
"Someone attempted to take Anti-Matter."
GUESS WHO UPDATED THE LORE (AGAIN)
YES, THAT'S RIGHT, ME
Crying rn, sorry past self but I just cAN'T RESIST ANYMORE
But it doesn't really change the lore much (I think...) however, Kariya also has a special role; and no, he isn't in Class E - but his lore is related to the government. Basically, I was researching Kariya's backstory and it has been bothering me for the past few weeks and I thought... hey, why not?
Hehe, you guys didn't think that Nomura (from the very first chapter of this book) was just a random character, did you? :D
And, please keep in mind that this is just a draft and it isn't really official yet, so I'm leaving this here for future self to start brainstorming for once with the lore. And yes, as you might have guessed, this may or may not be related to the last particular scenes of random scenarios 1 and 2.
Also! I have hinted, obviously, smth about Tenma, and gave a few headcanons about anti-matter, and it also applies with, not just Tenma, but with Kayano and Itona as well.
Also(2)! Another BL ship will be added~ (Yes, it's Kariya.)
Speaking of the ship, does anyone have guesses who the secret guy Tenma will be paired up with? ;D
Okay I'm rambling here, bye byeee~
