Pink Elephants Must Die at Sunrise

Another glass of the green liquid is poured and drained and another dazed reality sets in. This horrific reality is all too familiar to the poor artist and yet he clings to it. He clings to the Green Fairy as she pulls him through the night sky and to that place where he is free.

He can still remember his first taste, the first time the Green Fairy kissed his cheek and welcomed him to the land he would someday call home. It had all started as a way to enjoy him self and now, after all he had been through, it was a way to escape this dark hell his life had become and join the twisted freaks of the underworld in a much more comforting setting.

The sobs still echo through the floor boards and fill the room, the sound leaking in through the loosely patched hole in the floor. Lost in yet another bottle, the artist can barely remember who is crying or why. Something terrible must have happened. But what is there to be sad about in a world as dazzling as this? What could possibly go wrong when there is such a beautiful woman in the world? He takes her hand and follows her into his freakish reality.

Twisting, twirling, dancing, swarming, consuming, fantastic.

Her eyes sparkle and her voice rings through the emptiness of the room and suddenly she begins to fade and he can feel the tears sliding down his face.

Calling to his love he begins to sob, his cries mixing with the ones from down below. His tears fall into a puddle on the floor and his whole body begins to shake with sorrow. The deep depression sets in. The dark hell of reality takes over and the world falls heavily upon him.

His hands search the floor franticly before finding the bottle and he pours himself one last shot.

One last trip into the realm of all things glorious and all things beautiful.

For even the sobbing, wasted artist knows that in order to survive one more day, pink elephants must die at sunrise.

A/N: For those of you going, "I've heard that before..." it is because Pink Elephants Must Die at Sunrise is a way to remember the order of operations for solving equations. Well, what can I say... my mind wanders in math class.
