Kill Me
By Lady Pyrefly
Author's Note: This is the second of three qualls, all based on the Dir En Grey song "Child's Prey." I really hope you like this.

Quistis sat on the front steps of the only home she'd ever known, Balamb Garden. The concrete stairs were still warm after collecting the last few rays of the fading sunset, and counteracted the chill of the Ice Queen in her mind. Quistis sighed. Life was so…complicated.
And it was odd how calm she was, all things considered.
Quistis could save him, she knew she could. But that wasn't the problem. The problem was that she didn't even know if Squall wanted to be saved anymore. By this point, after all he'd been through, Quistis couldn't blame him if he just wanted to fall, fall, fall into dark oblivion.
She knew that right now, as she sat safe and sound, at home, Squall was alone. Scared and defeated, Squall sat alone.
Quistis had saved him from himself before. So many time she'd lost count. And Squall couldn't even…
Well, that didn't matter now. What had the instructor been expecting? Squall to drop to his knees and profess his true and undying love for her? Please. Quistis was far beyond the point of believing in a fairy tale romance.
Squall loved her, she knew he did, despite the fact that their entire relationship was nothing but a few stolen moments together and secret smiles in crowded hallways.
Quistis sighed. She got up, and returned to her only.

"Squall."
Squall was, in fact, exactly where Quistis had predicted. Sitting, alone, on the wall around the Training Center. The blue-glowing lights of Balamb Garden shone in his eyes, a fading bloody sunset behind him. "What?" he asked. Squall knew it was her, no other voice had that same soft, commanding voice.
"What's the matter?" Quistis imagined she was allowed a little bluntness, Squall hadn't turned around. He shrugged. "Squall."
"Just leave me alone, Quistis."
"Quists?" she echoed, somewhat disbelieving. "I'm Quistis now?" The girl's voice was hard, angry. "You haven't called me Quistis since…"
"I know."
Quistis cracked her knuckles out of frustration, and climbed atop the wall next to him. "So what's the problem, Squall?" she asked, the monster inside her heart taking over. "Why can't you just jump. Right now, I know you want to." Quistis was somewhat shocked that she could say such bitter words. For a few moments, the only sound was that of a monster's final roar from somewhere behind them. Quistis swallowed with some difficulty, and said, "The last time you sat like this with a girl, she pushed you off, didn't she?" Squall nodded. "I'm not gonna push you off. You wanna die, you'll do it yourself."
Squall, finally, looked up at her. "I don't want to die," he whispered quietly.
And Quistis realized what this was about. Realized that it wasn't really about dying. "I do," she whispered, and with the strong arms that came from wielding a whip, pushed off from the thick stone wall and fell downward, downward, downward. Into dark oblivion.
After what felt like an eternity of falling, Quistis hit the ground. With a groan of pain, she stood up and looked around. The stars above were hazy, and Quistis wondered if that was just because of the fog in her mind. "C'mon you pansy!" she yelled up at Squall, rage taking over. "If I can fall, why can't you?"
"I don't fall for anyone," he said solemnly, and vanished.
And then, then it became about dying.
Author's Note: -surprised smile- I'm a little shocked how this turned out. I originally intended something else to happen, but I think I like this better. What do you think?
