Chapter One - Green fingers.
'So let me get this straight. You can get every channel broadcasted on any planet?'
'That's right.'
'All the radio stations?'
'Every single one.'
'Any you can intercept all types of communication?'
'Yeah, good isn't it,' grinned the Doctor.
'Oh it's wonderful. And yet, despite having access to every weather channel across the world we're still stuck on top of a mountain in the rain and getting colder by the minute. Do weather forecasts mean anything to you?'
'I like my weather unpredictable. You humans like everything to be so repetitive. Take Ricky for example...'
'Mickey,' corrected Rose.
'Ricky...' he continued. 'Eats, sleeps, watches football, goes to work and then does it all over again the same day, a little unpredictability keeps you on your toes.'
'Yeah, but that's normal...'
'And boring,' interjected the Doctor as he looked towards the city's skyline.'Well, I havent seen one of those ships for a while.'
Turning to look over the Doctor's shoulder, Rose's eyes fixated on the image of a shining silver sword that seems to be hovering in mid air over the coast of Wales.
'That's a spaceship? It's a bit...'
'Pretentious, over - bearing, egotistical, and completely over decorated?'
'I was going to say small... but whatever you think suits,' she grinned.
If I didn't know better I would say that's a ziptankaresticalana d - class ship,' observed the Doctor. ' The markings are very distinct, as is the shape and of course the flower arrangement on the hull is a tell tale sign. Of course I could be wrong,' motioned the Doctor, as he shrewdly studied the vessel.
'Right...'
'It could be a g - class,' finished the Doctor.
'So these zippy can tanks people drive floating swords?' questioned Rose. 'And like flower arrranging?'
'Evidently,' surveyed the Doctor. 'However I've never known one to visit earth before, most unusual, perhaps they've decided to make contact for the first time. A momentous day in history for human kind!'
'Yeah, and have you noticed,' enquired Rose, 'They've come on the day of the Chelsea flower show?'
Suddenly recoiling in shock and surprise, the Doctor grabbed Rose's hand.
'Something's wrong!'
Noticing the close and intoxicating proximity between herself and the Doctor, Rose distanced herself and broke free of the Doctor's hand almost immediately regretting her decision.
'How do you know that?' she asked, already missing the warmth of the Doctor's hand in her own.
Pushing Rose's rejection away from his mind, the Doctor pointed out towards the ship.
'Because... there are pansy's in one of the flower boxes hanging off the right side of the ship, you see?' he said as he gestured to the ship. ' In the second pod down on the right hand side.'
'And from that you deduce that something's wrong?'
'Of course something's wrong! Any species who know anything about gardening knows that you don't plant pansy's in the middle of winter, and besides Chelsea is nowhere near Cardiff. Something is definitely a -miss there.'
'And you get that from the flowers?'
'Well that and the fact that there's a massive hole on the other side of the ship. Which means it's time to investigate!'
'Back to the tardis?'
'Nope, a spot of hiking will do us good,' smiled the Doctor as he watched Rose move away down the mountain. 'Nothing like the cold to cool down the heat.'
