Potted Plants for Every Occasion

It started with Hannah. Second year, he gave Hannah a Flitterbloom. He did that because the Flitterbloom's pretty, and he thought Hannah was pretty, even though Hannah herself didn't seem to think so.

She was so embarrassed she never said a word.

To Hermione, he gave a pot of gillyweed. He did that because gillyweed's helpful (it can help people breathe underwater) and Hermione's helpful, too. Hermione was the reason why he was passing all of his classes, more or less.

It quickly became apparent that Hermione was interested in someone else, but she kept helping him with his homework, so he thought, well, that wasn't a bad move.

He gave Ginny a Chinese Chomping Cabbage because the Chinese Chomping Cabbage is nice, if you like cabbage, and Ginny's nice, too. Ginny never even noticed that he kept stepping on her feet at the Yule Ball.

He didn't know, at the time, that Ginny had just started dating Michael Corner. And then it turned out that she had noticed that he kept stepping on her feet at the Yule Ball. She was just being nice about it.

Ginny's very, very nice.

To Padma, he gave a pot of sneezewort, because sneezewort is used in Befuddlement Draughts, and Padma always made him feel befuddled.

Padma never even noticed.

Padma's like that.

He didn't mean to give Luna the Gurdyroot. She just helped herself. But it was okay, because he did like Luna, even though he thought she was absolutely crazy, and she seemed to like the Gurdyroot, and she didn't take it too seriously.

Thank goodness.

To Susan, he gave a Mimbulus mimbletonia. There was no special reason for that. Thinking hadn't worked very well so far, so this time he didn't think, he just gave her the plant he had. Susan was unconscious at the time, so it didn't seem to matter much, what plant he gave her. The Mimbulus mimbletonia is unattractive, but it has an amazing defensive mechanism. It did occur to him that, after everything Susan had been through, she could use a plant like that.

Funny that Susan was the one he married.

He always knew that the Mimbulus mimbletonia had special properties.
