He stares at the ground hoping that she'll catch on. But considering that he has no idea what there was to catch on to and who he was trying to telepathically send the message to, he concludes that this is pointless. Although, he doesn't look up.

"This wasn't how it was supposed to go," he mumbles incoherently to the floor.

"Hmm?" She bunches her eyebrows together.

"This wasn't how it was supposed to go," he mumbles a little louder, now looking up, but not at her.

"Oh?" She finally catches on but doesn't give in. "How what?"

"This wasn't how it was supposed to happen, you know, the whole proposing bit." He feels like he needed to explain himself because of the look on her face.

"Is Luke feeling not-so-masculine-because-I-didn't-get-to-propose-to-my-girl!"

"No, damn-it!" He finally gives in. "Well, maybe! I do want to keep some of my pride!"

"Luke, honey," she says standing upt o his level."Just because I beat you to it, that doesn't mean that you lose your pride."

Well maybe some of your pride, she thoght, laughing a bit.

"Lorelai! I had it all planned out! I was planning this for quite some time now! I even asked Rory about what size the ring…" But he didn't get to finish. As he was saying all of this, he was back-tracking to how they had started this "discussion".

"You asked Rory about my ring size?" she asks looking somewhat touched.

"Well, yes." He says, blushing. "And I also asked for her permission. I thought since she's your daughter, that I might as well ask the only person and opinion you trust."

"Ed," she adds. "Trusted. Well, I mean I still do but not really. If you catch what I mean. But, Luke, she's not the only person and opinion that I trust. Unlike her though, I completely trust you, obvioulsy. I mean, Hello! I just freaking asked you to marry me!"

And that's when it hit him like a sack of potatoes dropped from the Empire State Building. (Ouch! Wait, back-up, rewind, back-track. Revised:) And that's when it hit him like a baseball to the face. (Much better.) He was probably, no, he was the only man that she had ever completely trusted. Not her father, Christopher, Max, Jason, nobody else. Only him.

"Wow." Is all he could manage.

"I love you, Luke."

Another baseball and another stunned face. It takes him a minute to process and another minute to reply.

"I love you, Lorelai."

With that, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small velvet box."Will you, Lorelai Gilmore, make me and even happier man and marry me!"

"Duh! I thought that it is what we had just established during the past 20 minutes!"

Typical Lorelai.

"Ah, jeez!"

Typical Luke.

"Finally!" "Took 'e long enough!" "Gosh, how sweet!" Came from outside, along with a whole lot of other commentary.

Typical Stars Hollow.
