Hi lovely readers,
Thank you so much for all of the reviews left on the last chapter. That chapter in particular has been one of my most reviewed chapters on here. I'm still so grateful that you all love coming on here and are still taking the time to read and review my stories, it means so much.
This chapter was requested by a guest and MarisaFromBCN. I found this one so cute to write, I really do think prompts like this one are some of my favourite to write so thank you so much for requesting.
Hope you all enjoy reading.
Embarking on motherhood had been Amy's favourite and most proudest achievement to date. To have a little person who you created and grew inside of you be the absolute centre of your world was an unbelievable feeling. The love she felt for her daughter was overwhelming, of course she knew she would love her child more than anything but from the moment her eyes landed on her tiny, wriggly body, a tidal wave of love hit her with a force she could never have imagined, never have comprehended. As her daughter grew so did all of the love she felt for her.
Every little movement her little girl made as she stood and watched her in the kitchen made her heart swell with love. It amazed her everyday that she and Sheldon had managed to raise such strong, polite, kind and confident little girl, Amy knew she was biased but to her she was just an amazing little person.
"You can't just throw it on there" Amy laughed as she watched Emily carefully grab a handful of cheese before throwing it haphazardly onto her pizza base. "You've got to sprinkle it, like this" Amy demonstrated with her own.
"Like this" Emily concentrated hard, her little tongue poking out of her mouth as she carefully sprinkled the cheese on her pizza. Amy smiled to herself, when their daughter was like this, focused and determined it reminded her so much of Sheldon, in many ways their little girl was her fathers double.
"Yeah, that's right. Good job" Amy praised. She would never get bored of moments like this, having Emily had taught her to never take things for granted and to always cherish every moment no matter how big or small. Having a little person around was stark reminder of how quickly time went, she had blinked and suddenly she was four. Simple moments like this were even more important as in just a few short months, Emily would no longer be the littlest in their family and Amy would soon be a mother again to whole other little person.
"Can I make a face?" Emily asked, gazing up at her mother with her fathers eyes from where she stood on her little stool. Amy was so glad she had Sheldon's eyes.
"Sure" whenever they made pizzas together, Emily always wanted to use the ingredients Amy had laid out to create a face. It was time consuming and just like her parents Emily was meticulous with her pizza making but Amy wouldn't have it any other way. "I didn't think you liked pepperoni?" Amy asked, as she watched Emily delicately lay the meat down as the eyes for her pizza.
"I do" Emily told her quickly. Even though Amy was one hundred percent sure that as soon as Emily took a bite of her pizza she would pull a face and claim it was too spicy, she didn't say anything. "Can we still do this when my brother is here?" Emily asked.
There had been moments throughout Amy's pregnancy where Emily had been so excited about becoming a big sister. As soon as Amy discovered she was pregnant the second time round, it was as if Emily suddenly grew up before her eyes. Sometimes, she was incredibly attentive and wanted to talk to Amy's stomach and feel her little brother kick, other times it was the last thing Emily wanted to talk about and acknowledge.
With Amy being an only child and Sheldon very much being the baby of the family, neither of them could right now relate to what Emily was going through. For now, they were just letting her process everything a day at time and kept their fingers crossed that once he arrived everything would be okay.
"Yeah of course we can" Amy answered quickly and in that moment felt compelled to wrap her arms around her daughter, giving her a little squeeze.
"Because daddy says that he will need lots of looking after," she was a clever little thing and even when Amy and Sheldon had thought they were being discrete, little ears were never too far away.
"Well daddy's right, babies do need looking after and maybe with some things you would be able to help. When there are babies around grown ups need lots of help" Amy could see that her reply didn't quite sit well with Emily, maybe right now the thought of having to look after someone she didn't even know was just a little too much. "I promise, we will always have time for you, always. We can have mummy and Emily days, how does that sound?" Amy asked, giving her a little nudge.
"That sounds good" she nodded her head as she proceeded to add a mushroom nose and a red pepper mouth to her pizza face. "Could I have days with daddy too?" she asked so innocently it made Amy's heart melt.
"Of course you can. Whenever you need us, we'll be there, always" she squeezed her again. In that moment, she wished Emily knew how it felt to love another human being the way she loved her, she wanted her to know that no matter what, no matter how many brothers or sisters came after her, no matter how old she was, she would always have her parents there.
"Do you like it?" Emily asked rather proudly, a smile on her face as she turned to get Amy's attention.
"Oh my goodness I love it, it's the most amazing pizza I've ever seen" Amy was full of praise for her, "do you think we should make one for daddy too?" Amy asked, watching as Emily nodded excitedly. "I think we might need some more ingredients" Amy began to make her way round the kitchen, opening up the refrigerator and cupboards to retrieve more of what they needed.
"Mumma, you need to stop" Emily told her rather sternly, Amy stopped in her tracks, waiting for Emily to continue. "Daddy says you have to rest so I need to look after you" she jumped down from her stool, nearly losing her balance once she landed on the floor. "I can help you" she held out her arms for Amy to pile on the ingredient.
"Oh" Amy wanted to cry and her adorable, thoughtful little girl. "I'm okay, I can manage" Emily continued to hold out her arms and Amy swore she saw her raise an eyebrow. "Okay" Amy laughed, "you could take these for me, that would be really helpful," Amy handed her some peppers and a few mushrooms.
"You need to relax mumma" Emily told her in a grown up fashion, again another phrase she had heard her father mutter over the last few weeks and all Amy could do as she watched her daughter climb back up on to her stool was laugh at her utter sweetness.
—
It was their Friday night tradition, pizza and movie night. Emily sat sandwiched between her parents on the couch with the pizza she had previous made hanging from her mouth. It still made Sheldon jittery that they let their daughter eat on the couch with a tomato smeared face and fingers but as with everything in fatherhood it was just another little thing he had to grow accustomed too.
He couldn't quite believe he was about to go through it all again. For him, as with many parents, having Emily had been a huge adjustment for him. Everything was compromised; his aversion to germs, his love for a routine and his overall priorities, all of that just had to be pushed to one side and as soon as he saw her, he didn't mind one bit.
She was the love of his life, she had captured his heart in ways he never imagined another human being to do but with this fierce love came a whole heap of worry. Especially when she was a baby and couldn't verbally communicate, he panicked about every little sound she made; was she hungry, hurt, sick, tired, too hot or too cold, the list became endless and it turned him into a nervous wreck. Of course, he still worried about her now, only his worries were a little different; Will she be okay at preschool? Will the other children be kind to her? Will she have eaten enough? Did I hug her and tell her I love her just enough? Has she fallen over? Has she had a bad day? He knew from talking to others that this worry never stopped, never ended and they were about to bring a whole other person into the world for him to worry about.
"Do you like my pizza daddy?" Emily asked, losing interest in the movie that she had insisted on watching and had instead taken to practically climbing on him.
"I do. It was very tasty" he told her, simply letting her climb up on to his lap. With Amy's help and upon Emily's request, they had tried to spell 'daddy' out on his pizza with an array of ingredients. "Shall we watch the movie?" he asked, trying to keep her still. She was a tiny little thing but right now, with how wriggle she was it felt like she was everywhere.
"No" she shook her head. "I want to play. Can we play a game?" Sheldon glanced over at Amy who with her hand on her rounded stomach looked exhausted, she would of course have denied this if Sheldon ever brought it up.
"What game would you like to play?" Despite being tired himself, he knew this little activity fell on him. He was silently hoping it was some kind of game they could play from the couch.
"The one with the cards" from where she was sitting on his lap, she rose on to her knees and Sheldon had to stop himself from wincing from the pain of her knees digging in to him
"Cards?"
"Yeah, I played it with Penny. You have to turn them over and find matches" she gestured to turning over the cards in her over dramatic way. Sheldon thanked his lucky stars, if he pulled the coffee table closer to him, neither he or Amy had to move.
"Sure, go and get it" he picked her up off of him and placed her on the ground, watching as she ran off to her bedroom.
"Thank you" Amy turned her head to look at him once she was sure Emily was out of sight and earshot.
"For what?"
"For taking over" Amy shuffled herself into a more comfortable position, although right now not a lot brought her comfort. "Honestly, just making pizzas with her this afternoon made me feel like I'd ran a marathon," she laughed, forgetting how tiring all of this pregnancy stuff was. "She was so sweet earlier, she was telling me off for carrying ingredients."
"I can hear you talking about me" a little voice sang as Emily walked back into the room clutching a pack of cards.
Amy smiled, she never failed to make her laugh. "I was just telling daddy how you were helping me earlier with all of the ingredients" Amy explained as Emily placed the cards on the coffee table and went to sit at the other end opposite her parents.
"I was looking after her dad" Emily beamed rather proudly.
"Well done, I forget you're such a grown up now" he told her, taking the packet of cards from her and placing them all face down on the table.
"But I'm only four" she giggled showing him four of her fingers.
Once all of the cards were face down, they began to play. Emily had the most terrific memory, a quality that made Sheldon exceptionally proud. It seemed that she was giving her father quite a run for his money and before they knew it, she had won the game. Later, Sheldon would tell Amy that he let Emily win but she wasn't entirely sure that was the case.
"Are you okay?" Sheldon asked Amy when he noticed the grimace on her face and the way her hand was resting on her stomach. He knew her due date was quite a while off but she was getting close to that stage where anything could happen and as always he was over cautious.
"Yeah, just getting kicked" she laughed lightly, adjusting her position again, willing for any sort of comfort. "I think your baby brother likes this game" she told Emily, "or it's the pizza he likes," she loved how Emily's little face lit up.
"I want to feel, I want to feel" Emily scrambled across the table, something that she knew she wasn't allowed to do and ended up again sandwiched between her parents.
"Just here" Amy gently took hold of Emily's hand and placed it against the spot where she could feel the kicks. Emily loved feeling her little brother kick and was always quite fascinated.
"I can feel it" she laughed, feeling the strong nudges against her palm. Amy saw Emily's face changed, her eyes narrowed and her brow furrowed and Amy knew she was deep in thought. "Mumma, how did the baby get in your tummy?" she asked innocently.
Sheldon coughed awkwardly and as Amy glanced over at him, she could already see a pink blush forming on his cheeks. With Emily being as inquisitive as she was, Amy was surprised it had taken her so long to ask. From Sheldon's reaction, she knew she was going to be the one to deal with this.
"How do you think the baby got there?" Amy asked, interested in her thoughts process and how much she already knew.
Emily shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. Is it magic?" she asked and both Amy and Sheldon had to suppress their laughter. She was just the cutest thing.
"No, it's not magic" she pulled her in for a squeeze. "Although, it is a pretty magical thing" Amy stroked Emily's head, playing with her hair as she cuddled close to her mother. She thought about her words carefully trying to decide what to say and how to keep it all age appropriate, she was only four after all. Yet as a woman of science, she felt as if it were duty to be as honest as possible.
Amy looked to Sheldon again for a little bit of support but she could see that he looked as if he wanted the ground to swallow him whole right now. This was his idea of hell.
"So, to make a baby you need to have a man and a woman" she felt Emily nod against her. "Now men have something called sperm"
"Amy" Sheldon sighed, his eyes wide. He knew he was being his over reacting self but he didn't want his four year old knowing things like this, couldn't they just tell her the story of the stork.
"And women have something called eggs. You need those two things to make a baby and when those two things meet, a baby starts to grow," Amy felt quite proud of her description, she had used the right terminology and been as truthful as possible without being crude or abrupt.
"But how do they meet?" Emily sat up, now looking between her parents. Amy was silly to think that the conversation would be over then. Sheldon was growing redder by the second and no matter how much he wanted to, his mouth just wasn't producing the words he needed.
"They meet when two people really love each other and decide to give each other a special grown up hug" she explained carefully, finally sugar coating something to Sheldon's relief. Amy felt another kick and Emily moved her hand along her stomach so that she could feel it. "Does that answer your question?" Amy asked.
"Mhmmm" she nodded her head and Amy wondered just how much information she had taken on. "So daddy had to give you a special hug?"
"Yeah, that's right"
Sheldon had never wanted to not be somewhere else so much in his life. Although, grateful to Amy for being her amazing self and jumping to his rescue, he felt too embarrassed to look at Emily.
"Daddy, your cheeks have gone red?"
Thank you so much for reading! As always your reviews are always welcome and so appreciated! I love hearing your thoughts.
