Luke watches Kathleen sleep as he holds his swaddle-up daughter in his arms. He still couldn't believe she was here after the year they had. If someone had told him a year ago that he and Kathleen would be in the Labour and delivery ward and Mount Sinai. He would have asked what drugs they were on.

Faylinn was almost five hours old and already had her mother's and father's undivided love and attention. The beautiful baby girl weighed six pounds and nine ounces. She was perfectly healthy by all means. She took almost 18 hours to come into this world. When she arrived, she brought her parents nothing but relief.

Kathleen was catching up on her sleep. She knew that the room would be filled with visitors of all kinds in a matter of hours. Her family had already texted both her and Luke's phones many times. They wanted updates and news of the newest family member. It disappointed them to learn that they could not visit till 9 that morning. It gave the trio almost six hours to bond before being bombarded by family members and friends alike.

"As I was explaining, there are lots of people that are going to protect you," Luke says as he watches his daughter. "You'll of course have me and mom. You'll also have gramps, grandpa, mammy, pappy, Aunt Gail, Uncle Steve and Sam, and all the officers we work with. The most important person looking after you is your grandma, nana, and papa in heaven. They are going to be your guardian angels, as they'll see the most."

"Now sometimes we won't always be there to protect you. What is important to remember is that we are always here to support you. No matter what you do or what happens between now and then, your mom and I will always have your back. Now sometimes you will be upset and mad at us. You need to know that we are doing everything we can to protect you. It may seem unfair, but because of what we have seen, we think it's for the best."

"Giving away our parenting secrets," Donovan asks from the doorway.

"Maybe a little," Luke says. He looks up and then at the clock and notices that he is fifteen minutes early. "Why am I not surprised you got in early?"

"It's good to have friends in all kinds of places," he says as he notices Kathleen sleeping. "She okay?"

"Long and tiring night with a busy day ahead," Luke says as he stands up. "Ready to meet her?"

"Uh," Donovan says before Luke places the baby in his arms. "No warning."

"I was told not to," Luke says as he watches his father-in-law react to the newest member of the family. "Any idea when the rest will show up?"

"Gail has to wait till lunch or after academy classes. Bill and Gramps are planning on the next few hours. Elaine should be here after lunch," Donovan says as he stares at the little girl. "Boyko said he would be by before the day is over. I am supposed to check in with Sam in a few days, so I'll let him know then. Steve mentioned nothing, so I'm not sure."

"I think Elaine is stopping by the prosecutor's office before coming in," Luke mentions.

"What for?"

"Likely to see if the plea deal went through."

"What?" Donovan asks, confused and upset.

Fay squirms and her face scrunches up.

"My bad Fay," Donovan says before gently rocking his arms as his granddaughter calms back down. "Explain?"

"The defence offered a plea. The terms weren't something the prosecutor agreed on. They then sent their changes back to the defence. Now we are waiting to see what happens," Luke comments as he looks at him. "It avoids trial and having her relive the entire ordeal. He gets 15 years, but he may be out in 10 for good behaviour."

"That's," Donovan starts.

"He's not getting the minimum and there is no way to guarantee if he goes to trial that he gets the max. This is a middle ground. He'll have to plead guilty and follow all the normal protocols for someone charged with a sex crime. It's a win-win."

Donovan only shakes his head as he looks down at his newborn granddaughter. He lets out a sigh before adding, "Plea deals are the best option for the victims, is what Aileen used to say. Something about it being more traumatic to relive it during the cross."

"Add in being a new mom," Luke mentions.

"Okay, I get it, doesn't mean I like it or am going to trust him," Donovan says as he looks down at Fay. "I'll be monitoring."

"Didn't think you wouldn't be," Luke comments. "Plus, when Sam gets back."

"Oh brother," Donovan mentions as he looks at his daughter. "I am only agreeing with it because it protects her."

"I know, the same reason for Bill and Gramps as well," Luke affirms.

"What about us?" Bill and Gramps ask as they reach the room.

"We brought coffee," Bill mentions as he hands a cup to Luke.

"Plea deal," Donovan says before passing Fay over to Gramps and taking a to-go cup from Bill. "I don't like it, but I'm willing to stand down."

"That is understood," Gramps says as he stares down at the little girl. "I see mommy is resting. Did daddy get any sleep?"

"A few hours, but I'm good," Luke says as he watches the men all admire the little bundle. "I'm kind of used to running on no sleep the last few weeks."

"Preparing," Bill asks as Gramps places Fay in his arms. "This reminds me of when Kat was born. She seemed to be not much bigger than Fay."

"They say by the time we take her home she'll weigh less," Luke says. He turns and notices Kathleen beginning the shift. "Someone is waking up."

Kathleen gradually opens her eyes before noticing the group of men in the room. "Hey," she says softly as Bill walks closer to her.

"I know this is yours," Bill says as Kathleen sits up and takes the little girl. "You sure we can't start the bodyguard process?"

"I know there are enough people in her life that are trained to kill. If need be," Kathleen mentions as she holds her little girl. "See, I told you that the men in our lives need to learn their boundaries."

"Hey," the four men say as they look at her.

"It's true," Kathleen says as she holds the little girl close to her.

"I hate to break up this family reunion. There are only two visitors allowed at a time," an older nurse says as she enters the room.

The three older men only look down at the floor and all mutter, "sorry."

"I should get back to work," Donovan says. He moves to his daughter and places a kiss on her forehead and repeats this with his granddaughter. "I'll be back later."

"You better," Kathleen says as she looks at him. "I am not afraid to call my aunt."

"I know," Donovan says before patting Luke on the back and exiting.

"Any changes?" the nurse asks as she looks at Luke and Kathleen.

"She's still asleep since her last feeding," Luke comments as he looks at his watch. "I'd say roughly 2 hours."

"We'll let mom wake up some before another feeding," the nurse says. "What about Mom? Are you all well?"

"Only sore and tired," Kathleen comments as she snuggles her daughter closer to her. "But more than willing to deal with it all for her."

"High spirits, I like it," the nurse comments. "Now, am I going to have an issue with your visitors?"

"Uh," Luke and Kathleen both start.

"I'll send a mass text explaining the rule," Bill says. "We should all be sporadic, as many of us are on different schedules, but are all excited about meeting this little one."

"Large family of cops," Gramps adds.

"Ah," the nurse says before nodding. "Do try not to overlap for more than say 30 minutes."

"I'll let everyone know," Bill comments before the nurse leaves. "This could be an interesting day."

"You're telling us," the new parents comment.
