"A woman's voice, Bobby, Dean…Dean is hurt…" Sam's eyes opened with some difficulty and above him was a large extraction fan and the devils trap right below it, "The panic room…I hurt Dean…" He swiped his tongue over his lips and came back with the coppery taste of his brother's blood. Sam tried to move but found he was bound at the wrists and ankles to a bed. He turned his head on the pillow and could see Dean lying on a folding bed and his body covered to the waist with a blanket. Sam recognized the woman working on him, she was Kathy Douglas the scientist who he knew all too well. Sam didn't want her touching his brother or near any of them.
Bobby stood over her, watching like a hawk as she scrubbed the bite wound and deftly put in a few stitches where the flesh was torn. She injected Dean after explaining it was a long lasting antibiotic to prevent infection from typical things one might get from a human bite. Bobby was more worried about another type of infection.
Sam closed his eyes again, pretending to be asleep while he got an earful on his condition.
"You better start talking, woman. I want to know everything and I'll be able to tell if your lyin'."
"You need to understand exactly what a virus does, Mr. Singer. Some enveloped virus's fuse directly to the cell's outer membrane, whereas others are engulfed whole by endocytosis or similar processes and then fuse their envelope with the membrane of the engulfing internal organelle to gain access to the interior of the cell. In either case, the genetic material of the virus has invaded the cell through the barrier of its membrane, and infection will inevitably follow. Infection can be prevented if fusion of the viral envelope with the cell or endosomal membrane can be blocked."
Bobby rolled his eyes, "In English."
"When the virus was introduced into Sam's system, his cells acted completely different from a normal person. Somehow, his body was able to reject all but a small fraction of the virus. It was as if his body cherry picked what it wanted and discard what it didn't like. Maybe what's left is the enhanced parts of the virus, strength, agility etc. He is a walking miracle and might be the key to ending all this."
"No, no he's not. This ain't genetic and that boy isn't the key to anything."
"And how do you know this?"
"By something his daddy told me."
"He got a dose of demon blood when he was an infant…"
The scientist furrowed her brow and shook her head, "His blood was different even before we infected him."
Bobby heard the faint sound of the doorbell.
"Balls! Who the hell is that?"
….
Bobby spied a tall, thickly built male who reminded him of a G.I. Joe action figure come to life, standing on his porch. He hoped the stranger wasn't going to be a pain in the ass because shooting someone full of rock salt wasn't on his agenda today. He opened the door and in his gruffest, most dismissive voice asked, "What do you want?"
Sheamus gave the man his winningest smile and extended his hand to him, "I'm Principal Gray from Sam's school."
Bobby shook his hand and softened his stance, "I'm the boy's uncle, what can I do for yah?" The man's smile faded, replaced by forlorn look with a dash of resolve. Bobby had seen that look in his own mirror many times.
"I'm sure Sam told you what happened at the school yesterday."
"No, enlighten me."
There were infected who got inside the school and it spread quickly, Sam jumped right in and helped me. I'm very grateful and wanted to thank him and make sure he's doing ok. You have an amazing nephew, Sir." Sheamus found this man in front of him difficult to read. He looked hard as nails and didn't raise an eyebrow when he heard what had happened. After a few moments of uncomfortable silence, Bobby said simply, "Sam is out tutoring. I'll tell him you stopped by."
Sheamus bowed his head and immitted a deep sigh, "I see the sigils and other precautions you have outside your home, Mister Singer. Most people wouldn't give them a second look but I'm not most people. I know what they are and what they mean. I believe we fight on the same side."
Bobby felt he couldn't trust anyone, not when it came to his boys. This man would need to vetted by Sam and he was in no condition for company. He didn't discount the principle completely; allies were always welcome but Bobby had priorities named Sam and Dean.
It was as if the stranger read Bobby's mind, he took out a business card with simply his name, email and two phone numbers on white cardstock and handed it to the hunter. "Call me if you or the boys need anything. I'm sure you know the world has gone mad and a strong network is imperative." He turned heel and descended the stairs but right before he got in his rusty old Chevy van, Bobby called out to him.
"I'll need to talk to Sam and get back to you, don't know when though."
The principal gave a brief wave, "fair enough."
…..
As soon as Bobby left, Kathy went to the other brother and crouched at the side of his bed, "I wonder what you are, Sam Winchester." When his eyes popped open, she fell back on her ass and gasped, "Your awake." He freed one wrist by twisting the bindings and using brute strength and then freed the rest of his limbs.
The scientist went to the door and tried to get out but found it locked. Kathy heard the bed creak and his feet hit the floor. She didn't want to turn and face him but she didn't have much of a choice. There was Sam standing there naked and larger than life with his hands in fists but he turned his attention to his brother and knelt at his bedside. Though still sleeping, the omega had a pained look on his face and his limbs jerked and twitched involuntarily. Sam began touching him all over, gently and with reverence and when he came the bandaged bite wound, the alpha's shoulders slumped. He felt like a monster.
"I'm so sorry, D. I don't know why I did it but I'll never do it again." He turned his attention back to Kathy, "This is your fault, you infected me. If anything happens to my brother…"
"Please Sam, allow me to explain things so you understand."
"I heard what you said to Bobby and I understood everything. I just want to know if my brother is going to be ok." He tenderly kissed Dean on the lips but unfortunately, he was no prince who could wake up the sleeping damsel. With that single kiss, the nature of their relationship became quite clear to the scientist. "Sam, are you, his alpha?"
He was tired of holding in their secret for so long when all he wanted was to love his brother freely and do the things in public just like other couples, he also wasn't thinking clearly, "Yes, I am. If you have a problem with it then too damn bad."
Kathy got a rush as possible explanations for the attack bombarded her big brain. "Don't take anything I say as gospel because these are just possible explanations and of course there would need to be studies and testing done but maybe you attacked not to kill him but to make Dean like you, special."
Sam frowned, "No, that wasn't it. I had an urge at that moment, I felt his heartbeat and his his blood coursing through his veins and…I don't know, I lost it. I didn't have any thoughts of turning him or anything really. Plus, I didn't know I was even infected."
"The subconscious is a powerful thing and maybe on some level you felt it and with the nature of your relationship it would be natural you'd want Dean to have the same benefits."
Sam rose to his feet and snapped at her, "I would never, ever hurt him on purpose!" He stormed around the circular room going through cabinets and shelves until he found a crowbar and approached the scientist who was frozen in fear.
He sneered at the woman, "If wanted to kill you, I would have done it already. Get away from the door." She scurried behind bins of supplies to hide. Sam jammed the crowbar near the lock and used his body weight to try and crack it open. He was incredibly strong and muscular and Kathy watched with a strange excitement to see just how the virus affected an already superior physical specimen.
"Muscles bulging, chest heaving and breath quickening…he's doing it…" She covered her ears when the sound of metal grinding against metal filled the room. The door around the lock gave way and when he pushed it open there was Bobby holding the loaded dart gun and looking very pissed off.
"You broke my damn door!"
Sam raised his hands in surrender, "Bobby, I swear I won't hurt you."
"Your damn right you're not because I'll dart yah as many times as it takes." He grumbled, "If I'd had the other locks on you wouldn't have got it open, well your gonna help me fix it." He bellowed, "Kathy, are yah ok?"
She meekly appeared from her hiding spot and waved to the hunter, "I'm ok."
Dean in his fevered state called out for his brother and Sam went to him immediately. It broke his heart to see fear in the omega's pretty green eyes, "I'm so sorry, please believe me D. You don't have to be scared of me because I feel ok now." He lifted Dean easily and draped him across his shoulders. As he passed by, Bobby didn't try to stop him but instead followed Sam with dart gun at the ready. Sam carried his brother up the stairs and into the bathroom, locking the door behind them.
Bobby heard the shower go on and the curtain drawn. He waited there, not knowing what to do exactly because he still wasn't sure this was the Sam he always knew. He didn't even know if Dean was still Dean. One thing was for certain, he couldn't allow them outside until he knew exactly what they were.
"Its gonna to be like keeping to bulls in a hen house…"
…
Dean could hardly bear his own weight but Sam had him in his grasp holding him up like a rag doll while scrubbing the sweat and sex from Dean's feverish body. Sam could feel his brother's involuntary body movements and it worried the hell out of him.
The omega was awake enough to be aware of Sam's warm breath on his skin as he rumbled deep, soft words in his ear, "Don't worry, Dean. I know exactly what to do with you now."
