A/N: Anyoneas old as me knows I stole this line from Gary Owens onLaugh In. For those who read my stuff you know I love to pay homage to the show's I grew up with. Adam 12, Man from Uncle (United Network Command for Law Enforcement), A Team and so on. I think I may have joined the Navy because of McHale's Navy. Those shows shaped my view of the world. I was, what was known as a latch key kid. From the age of seven on, the TV was my babysitter. I did my homework with Abbot and Costello and the three stooges in the afternoon and rushed through dinner so I could watch Napoleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin save the world from THRUSH, (The Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity). Spies were the meat and potatoes of my childhood. I had to sneak into the movies to see James Bond. That was before he relied on gadgets and had to use his wits. When my mother caught me reading one of the books, oy vey, it went badly. Yes, it's true Bond was considered to be bawdy and not for a young boy.
My stories are an homage to those spies of yesteryear. I love Chuck and Sarah, and the rest of Team Bartowski. My spy fantasies live on through them. I hope you get as much out of reading my stories as I do. Yes, I read them over and over. Each time I read them I see more depth in the characters that I missed. MY Editor and guide ParaDocs is great at pointing out nuance in my writing that I miss. Sorry for being so long winded. Sometimes ya gotta say, what ya gotta say. This is a long one, settle in get your favorite beverage and snack. Enjoy.
Oops I forgot to mention Wild, Wild West. Also, there is a glossary of terms at the end of the story.

Chapter 32:
Home Again
When Jeffrey pulls the limo up the energy is high. The family members are laughing and chatting. It's apparent that the show was a hit with everyone. Clara seems especially excited as she's buckled into her seat. Actually, there's a toss-up with who's more excited Clara or Sarah. Chuck looks at the gleam in his wife's eyes as she raves about how beautiful the horses were. He sighs enjoying the warm feeling he's getting from seeing her so happy. His Sarah, the spy who killed with no remorse acting like a silly little girl. He sighs again.
Sarah hears that sigh and looks over. Seeing the look on Chuck's face she smiles wide. Reaching up she caresses his face and kisses him. "I'm an incredibly lucky woman. Did you hear me, Ellie? I'm so lucky. I never thought I could be this happy. To have a family like all of you is a dream. A fantasy I could never allow myself. I'm still afraid I'll wake up and you'll all be gone." She kisses Chuck again then leans over to hug and kiss Clara, Ellie, and Devon.
Chuck's is smiling so big his face starts to hurt. He puts his arm around Sarah, "You're right Baby, we're family. I have the perfect way to show everyone just that." He takes his arm off Sarah and reaches into the bag he carried out of the show. He holds up a black tee shirt. The back is covered with the Medieval Times logo and a picture of the knights lined up. They're in armor each astride their steed holding their lances. He turns the shirt around and there is a solo picture of the Red-Yellow knight on the front. He passes the tee shirts out, "Alright everyone, time to suit up. Let's make sure everyone knows that we're on the same team."
Sarah is laughing as she starts to unbutton her shirt. She looks up at Devon who's already bare chested about to put on his new shirt. She waits until he's dressed. "Excuse me Dr. Woodcomb, we're not in your examining room, eyes closed please." Devon laughs and covers his eyes.
Ellie looks at Chuck, "You too little brother." Chuck, already changed, also covers his eyes. When Chuck uncovers his eyes, Ellie is pulling on Clara's shirt. They're all dressed alike, and he lets out a shout, "YAY! All for one and one for all." The energy in the limo goes up another notch.
Chuck leans towards her, "Clara what do you know when you see five elephants wearing red shirts walking down the street?"
Clara shrugs. Chuck laughs, "You know they're all on the same team." The car breaks out in laughter. Even Jeffrey is laughing in the front seat.
Devon shakes his head, "Dad jokes already. Sarah he's ready."
Sarah leans over and kisses Chuck, "He's been ready for a long time. Baby, I promise I won't make you wait too much longer."
The limo stops and moments later Jeffrey leans into the open door, "You do realize Sir; this is all your fault?"
Chuck looks shocked but before he can respond Jeffrey stands up and away from the door. Chuck climbs out and is confronted by a line of people outside the Staropolska Restaurant. Jeffrey is looking at him with a big grin. "One day Sir. You saved my folks place in one day. You will never pay for Polish food again. Come on Momma is waiting."
Chuck helps Sarah, Ellie, and Clara out of the car, Devon follows. Sarah hugs Jeffrey, "I'm so happy for your folks. They enter the restaurant, and Mr. Kozlowski sees them and rushes to the door. He extends his hand, "Ah, the guests of honor have arrived. Jeffrey, quick go tell Momma they are here." Jeffrey heads off to the kitchen. "Come, come, we have a table waiting for you. No waiting for the Bartowski party, not now, not ever."
As they follow Mr. Kozlowski, Ellie whispers to Sarah, "What's going on? Who are these people? How do they know Chuck? Why do they think he's a celebrity?"
Sarah laughs. "It's just your brother being himself. He saw people in trouble, and he helped them. This is them being grateful."
Ellie shakes her head and laughs lightly. "You know just when I thought I was impressed with Chuck, he shows me that there's more to come. What did he do for them?"
Sarah gives her a quick hug, "Boy, I know that feeling. I spend most of my days amazed. Be patient, I'm sure you'll hear all about it when Momma comes out. As if on cue everyone in the restaurant turns to look at the woman rushing out of the kitchen screaming. She runs up to Chuck and hugs him hard and gives him a kiss on the cheek. "Chuckala! My Boychik, and his wife such a Shaina maidel, she hugs Sarah." She looks down at Clara, "Oh! Such a Shaina punim, who is this little sweetheart?" She asks as she pinches Clara's cheek.
Sarah smiles with pride. She is very aware that they're still standing in the middle of the restaurant, "This is our niece, Clara."
She bends and caresses Clara's cheek, "Oh! My Jeffrey told me about Clara. But she is much more beautiful than he said. Sweetheart, I'm Jeffrey's momma, you can call me Bubby. Come…" she takes Clara's hand, "I am going to make for you such a special meal. You can have anything you want, come." Clara looks up at Devon, he nods his head and Clara follows. The group arrives at their table, they take seats and Mrs. Kozlowski waves her arms, addressing her husband, "Look Bernie they're dressed alike, how cute." She smacks Jeffrey's arm, "Why are you standing there, who are these nice people?"
Jeffrey shakes his head, "Gee, Momma, like I can get a word in edgewise."
Bernie shakes his finger at Jeffrey, "You don't talk to Momma like that. Apologize right now young man."
Jeffrey is embarrassed, "I'm sorry Momma."
Chuck stands up, "Momma it's my family, Jeffrey has been working all day. He's tired. Let me introduce them. You know my wife Sarah, and you've met our niece, Clara. This is my sister and brother-in-law Ellie and Devon. Dr. and Dr. Woodcomb."
She offers her hand, and they shake it. She turns to Chuck, "Two doctors, you have two doctors in the family. Maybe you have a doctor friend for my Jeffrey to marry?"
Jeffrey shakes his head, "I'm sorry folks. Momma, they're doctors, Chuck's family, not a matchmaking service."
Bernie shakes his finger at Jeffrey, "Again you talk to Momma with no respect?"
Jeffrey raises his eyebrows, "Respect, what about respect for me? She acts like I'm a desperate bum who can't find a woman."
Chuck is still standing, "Jeffrey is right, we came to eat not make a match. Jeffrey your father is also right. We have a problem. We'll need to ask Clara for the solution." He kneels down to speak to Clara, "So Sweetheart have you been listening?" Clara nods. "Well tell us the answer."
Clara thinks for a moment, "Your daddy is right, you should always be nice to your mommy. When I grow up and become a doctor, I'll marry Jeffrey."
Momma throws her hands up, "Oy, such a genius." She bends and kisses Clara, "You see Jeffrey soon I will have a doctor in the family."
Jeffrey smiles at Clara, "It would be my honor, Lady Clara. Momma I'm sorry I was short with you. Maybe they could eat now."
"You're right Jeffrey, I'm being rude making our guests of honor wait to eat." Momma turns to head for the kitchen
Sarah points at a chair, "We, we can eat now. You're betrothed to our niece that makes you family. Sit." Everyone at the table laughs.
Chuck looks at Jeffrey, "I want to know what's this thing is that you have with the women in my family? First my wife, now my niece. You do know that my sister is married, right?"
Jeffrey looks flummoxed, "Sir, I didn't… I mean I wasn't." He whispers, "She's very cute Sir, but a little young for me don't you think?"
Sarah laughs behind her hand. Chuck stares at Jeffrey hard. "You think my sister is too young for you? Why would you even consider such a thing? You do realize her husband is sitting right there."
Jeffrey throws his hands up, "But Sir, that's not what I meant. Your sister is lovely but…"
Chuck is being merciless, "Are you trying to say that my sister isn't good enough for you?"
Bernie shakes his head. Smiling as his son is teased. In an attempt to rescue Jeffrey, "Now before I offer you an aperitif, I will remind you that Momma will be cooking special for you, a menu will not be required."
Devon interjects, "Um Sir, how do you know our Chuck?"
Bernie acts surprised, "First you can call me Poppa. Second, you mean Jeffrey didn't tell you. Your Chuck and his lovely wife came into our restaurant only yesterday. The place was like a ghost town. He left and only a few hours later we started getting calls, to order take out, for reservations, for catering. Your Chuck made a magic spell on the computer and look… look, two days now, packed till closing. People lined up outside the door. I had to quick hire cooks, servers, bartenders. It's a good thing we knew people. I'll be right back with your drinks."
Ellie looks at Chuck, "Little brother, I'm enormously proud of you. I love that you help people when you can." Chuck is speechless and shrugs.
Sarah gives Chuck a dirty look. "Yep, he's wonderful when he's not teasing our friend. Jeffrey relax, he's just messing with you. However, there is the matter of your job. I suppose it would be better if you resign."
Jeffrey gets worried, "Ma'am what about my job? Why would I resign? I need my job."
Chuck leans forward, "After what you did today. Do you really think I would let you keep a job as a chauffeur?"
Jeffrey looks back and forth between Chuck and Sarah, "But Sir, Ma'am what did I do wrong?"
Sarah looks him dead in the eye, "Well for starters you keep calling us Sir and Ma'am. I'm Sarah he's Chuck."
Chuck interjects "And the finish… the fait accompli, is the way you looked out for our family." Jeffrey looks very confused. "Time to give your notice Jeffrey, in two weeks you'll be working for Carmichael Industries. If something weird comes up, with regards to your clearance, I'll deal with it. I want you working for me."
Jeffrey nods, "Thank you S… I mean Chuck. I know I'll enjoy working at your firm."
Bernie returns with the drinks. "Żubrówka for the adults. For the little princess, a Shirley Temple with extra cherries."
Clara is happy to have so much attention. Her eyes go wide as platter after platter is brought out and placed on the table. Pierogi, Gołąbki, Kluski śląskie, Zrazy Zawijane.
Sarah explains the drinks and the food as it comes out, served family style. There are lots of fresh veggies included. She does her best to describe the foods and what they may taste like.
Clara whispers, "Auntie Sarah, what's a bubby?"
Sarah smiles, "It means grandmother. It means that Mrs. Kowalski likes you and wants you to treat her like a grandma. Wow this is great. Now when Grandma Mimi is far away at work you will have an extra grandma."
Devon leans down, "Don't forget Grandma Honey. My mom loves you too. You have lots of grandmas."
Clara nods, "I know Daddy, I Love Grandma Honey too. … Daddy this food looks weird, do I have to eat it?"
Devon leans down and quietly explains, "Baby, you never have to eat anything you don't like. But you won't know if you like it if you don't taste it. Here's the deal, taste a little bit if it's awesome you can eat all you want. If you don't like it, you don't have to eat anymore."
Clara makes a face that says okay, I'll do it, but I don't like it. "Okay Daddy that's fair. Auntie Sarah, which one is the best one?"
Sarah considers, "Hmmm that's a tough question. Do you like Ravioli's?" Clara nods excitedly. Sarah cuts a piece on her plate and offers it to Clara. This is called Pierogi, it's like ravioli but with butter instead of tomato sauce."
Clara eats the piece offered to her from Sarah's fork. "Yum that's good. Okay Uncle Chuck what's your favorite? This is fun."
Chuck offers her a bit of food on his fork. "Auntie Sarah taught me all about this last time we were here. This is Kluski śląskie, it's also made with potatoes. What I like most about it is the feel in my mouth, that's called texture. It's really good with the gravy from the Zrazy Zawijane, they're beef rolls. Would you like to try that also? Clara chews on the dumpling and smiles, "Yum that is good. Yes, please I would like to try that. Is that like steak? I like steak."
Chuck feeds her a bit of the beef to Clara, "I like all of those, "But that one looks strange, and it smells…"
Devon and Ellie have been watching Chuck and Sarah with Clara they smile at the bond between the three of them. The best part is they get to eat their dinner uninterrupted.
Sarah laughs, "You're right Sweetheart, what you smell is cabbage. Inside of the cabbage leaves is meat and rice. It's cooked and then that beautiful tomato sauce is poured over it to make it taste even better. Would you like to try some?"
Clara makes a disapproving face, "I promised Daddy I would, but just a little bit please."
Sarah cuts into the Gołąbki. She offers Clara a small piece. Clara chews it and her face screws up as if she ate the worst thing in the world. "Thank you, Auntie Sarah, but that's not my favorite. Could I have some more of Uncle Chuck's favorite, and yours too? They were really good."
Sarah serves Clara the food she requested, adding some of the veggies. Placing the food on the plate, "Clara, I'm proud of you. You were very brave, and you kept your word to Daddy. Someday when Uncle Chuck and I have our children I want you to teach them how to be brave and honest."
Clara beams as she digs into her dinner, "I will Auntie Sarah, when they come to my tea parties me, and Beauty will teach them."
Ellie corrects Clara, "That's Beauty and I."
Clara nods, "Yes Mommy, you can help me and Beauty too."
The table cracks up, including Jeffrey, "That's my future wife." The laughter grows louder."
During the entire time the family celebrates being together the restaurant remains packed. As soon as a table empties it's filled again.
The table fills with so much food there is no way they can finish it all. Mrs. Kozlowski comes out of the kitchen. "So, tell me, it was good?"
Jeffrey answers, "It was wonderful Momma, like always."
"Feh, I know you like it. I was talking to my future daughter in law. Did you like my cooking, Mamala?"
Clara smiles, "Yes Bubby, it was yummy." She leans over and whispers in Devon's ear. He helps her down. She walks over and wraps her arms around Mrs. Kozlowski's legs. "Thank you for a yummy dinner."
Mrs. Kozlowski bends and hugs Clara, "You're welcome, Clara, I'm glad you liked it. You tell Mommy to bring you back in the daytime and I will teach you both how to make these foods."
Clara runs over to Ellie, "Can we Mommy? Can Bubby teach us to cook?"
Ellie looks over to Mrs. Kozlowski. "I would love that. If you're sure it's not too much trouble."
She shakes her head, "What trouble? It would be my pleasure to pass on my family recipes." She smacks Jeffrey. "God, knows this one isn't going to give me a daughter-in-law or grandchildren anytime soon."
The all laugh. Jeffrey shakes his head, "Momma, please, let me keep a little dignity, just a little."
"Dignity? Dignity you got. Grandchildren I don't got." Jeffrey's face goes red, and the table laughs.
Chuck stops laughing long enough to say. "Momma, give him a break. Right now, he needs to focus on his work for my company. He's my newest employee."
Mrs. Kozlowski bends and kisses Jeffrey on the cheek, "My Baby, you got a good job, working for a good man. I'm so proud of you. Chuck he'll do good work for you. I promise. If he doesn't, you let me know. He's not too big for me to give him a zetz."
Chuck looks at Jeffrey, "What's a zetz?"
Jeffrey gives his momma a dirty look. "A hit, a zetz is a hit. Momma, maybe this would be a good time for dessert, please."
Momma looks at Jeffrey and sees the pleading look on his face. She caresses his cheek, "Yes Tatala. I'll get dessert." She bends to whisper, "I'm sorry to embarrass you in front of your friends. I feel like they're family."
Jeffrey pats her arm, "It's okay Momma, I understand. They affect me that way too." She kisses his cheek and goes in the kitchen.
Jeffrey is apologizing to the group when Momma and Poppa come out with platters loaded with pastries, and a carafe of coffee. Everyone's eyes go wide. Clara especially takes notice. She sits up licking her lips. "Mommy, am I allowed?"
Ellie looks at all the sweets her face betrays her thoughts. Sarah pleads, "Ellie, please it's a celebration."
Chuck adds his two cents, "If we can't all eat, I won't have any either."
Ellie presses her lips together. Devon smiles, "Come on El, it's not every day Clara gets to party with her aunt and uncle."
Ellie shakes her head, "You too Devon? Fine! Clara, tonight is a special occasion so you can eat all you want. However, I want you to think carefully what you take. I know you don't want to have a tummy ache." She glares at Chuck and Sarah, "And you two, if you plan on spoiling her in Burbank like you have been, we won't be moving."
Clara screams, "ARE WE GOING TO LIVE WITH UNCLE CHUCK AND AUNTIE SARAH! OH BOY!
Ellie realizes what she said, "We're going to try Baby, it's not a promise. The only thing I'll promise is that if you eat too much cake you will get a tummy ache."
Sarah starts to cut little pieces of each dessert and puts them on a plate for Clara. "Here Sweetheart. Mommy is right. Here's a little bit of everything, and if there is one you especially like you can have a little more." Clara looks at Ellie. Ellie smiles and nods.
While Clara eats her treats, Sarah explains the Kołaczki, Szarlotka, Sernik and Papal Cream Cake. When she's done, she makes a plate and puts it between her and Chuck to share. Chuck leans over and whispers in her ear. "Sarah Bartowski, I want to take you under this table and make you a mother, right now. You're going to be the best mom ever."
Sarah smiles and puts a piece of the delicious cream cheese cookie in his mouth. She follows it with a kiss. "Uh uh nerd boy, not until you make an honest woman of me. Marriage first, babies second, third, fourth and so on. Keep in mind Ninety-nine is still my limit." Chuck laughs. She leans over and kisses him passionately.
Clara's face is covered with cream and powdered sugar. It's clear that the excitement of the day and the sugar is having an effect. She's speaking rapid fire, "Mommy if we live near Uncle Chuck I can play with MJ and LJ all the time, and we can have tea parties, and I could get a pony, and Auntie Sarah can read me stories, and …" She's bouncing in her seat in a manic fashion as she goes on and on.
Ellie looks across the table, "Thank you Chuck, Sarah. I look forward to the day that I can repay this kindness." Everyone laughs.
Momma comes out of the kitchen. "Is everyone happy, do we need more food?"
The table, as one, groans, Chuck holds his stomach, "Momma it was wonderful, so much food and so delicious."
Momma beams, "Thank you Chuck. Jeffrey sweetheart, please you'll go in the kitchen and get some containers so they can take home the leftovers."
Jeffrey gets up, he bends and kisses his mother's cheek, "Right away Momma, thank you for being so nice to my bosses." He heads off to the kitchen.
Ellie stands up, "Mrs. Kozlowski, this was probably the best meal of my life. You are a wonderful cook. Thank you." Devon nods in agreement.
Momma looks at her cross, "Who's Mrs. Kozlowski? My name for you is Momma. You just remember to bring that little doll back to see me. I have lots more recipes I can teach you both."
Ellie smiles, "We'll be back, I promise. Right now, Clara and I are heading to the ladies' room."
Devon helps Clara down and she walks over to take Ellie's hand. She turns abruptly and runs back to hug Momma. "Thank you, Bubby. The food was so good." She whispers, "Especially the dessert."
Momma laughs and hugs her back, "It was my pleasure Sweetheart." Clara rejoins her mother.
Sarah joins Clara and Ellie in the ladies room. As they wash their hands Sarah asks, "How come you took her in? She didn't ask."
Ellie smiles, "Chuck is right, you're going to be one great mom. You have fantastic instincts; you're always learning and not afraid to ask questions." She whispers, "She'll probably fall asleep on the ride home. It's a preemptive move so we don't have to wake her up to go at home." Sarah nods in understanding. Ellie sighs. She turns to face Sarah, a tear rolls down her cheek, and she hugs her hard. "Thank you for making Chuck so happy. Me too, I'm so glad to have you back."
Sarah hugs her back. "I'm glad too Ellie. I would be terrified to do the whole family thing if I didn't have you, and Alex."
There is a tug at Sarah's skirt, "Hey, I can't reach up there." The ladies laugh and Ellie picks Clara up to join the hug.
The ladies rejoin the group in the restaurant. Chuck and Devon are loaded down with bags filled with food. Jeffrey explains, "Momma threw in some frozen food so you can take it back to Burbank with you. Make sure you keep it frozen until you leave. There's also a small box with Clara's name on it." Ellie looks at him. "It's just a few cookies." She looks at him again. "Fine you tell Momma no. I'm not as brave as you. Dr. Woodcomb, remember where Momma came from… how she grew up. Food is love. Those cookies are a hug and kiss."
Ellie nods, "I understand, and the name is Ellie. After the wedding you can call me Mom."
They all laugh as they head out to the limo. The line hasn't shortened at all. Chuck is the last one to get into the car. Jeffrey throws his arms around him and hugs him tight. "Thank you, Chuck. I can never repay you for what you've done for my folks."
Chuck smiles, "You want to repay me…just keep your hands off my womenfolk."
Jeffrey looks shocked, "But Sir, I never…"
From inside the car Sarah chides Chuck. "Chuck stop teasing him. He has enough problems with Momma trying to get him married."
Chuck laughs, "Sarah's right. I'm sorry Jeffrey, all in fun. I trust you completely. You're a good man, a mensch."
Jeffrey smiles as Chuck climbs into the car, "Thank you Sir."
The energy in the car is calmer. The adults speak quietly as Clara drifts off to sleep. When Jeffrey pulls in front of the Woodcomb home Clara is fast asleep. Devon gently lifts her out of the car. Ellie runs ahead and gets the door unlocked. Devon carries Clara inside with Ellie right behind.
Chuck and Sarah stay behind to chat with Jeffrey. Chuck extends his hand, Jeffrey takes it. "Mr. Kozlowski, you did outstanding work today. You handled yourself like a trained operative. I haven't had time to fill you in. You were right. We were being followed, but they were friendlies. They should have told us they would be there. If they had been a threat, your alertness might have saved my family. Thank you. I do have one question. How did you know that it was a tail and how to try and shake them?"
Jeffrey shakes Chuck's hand. "It was my honor to drive for you and your family. Let's just say not all of my customers have been upstanding citizens. Some of the sketchier riders tended to be extremely paranoid. By the way Chuck will you be needing a ride to the airport?"
Chuck smacks his head, I forgot to call your company. Are you available tomorrow? We need to be at the hangar by four."
"No problem, I've got you covered. I'll pick you up at say two?"
Chuck nods, "That should work. I'll let you know if there are any changes."
Sarah hugs Jeffrey, "Thank you, for taking such good care of us. Your folks are wonderful. Look at all this food your mom sent us home with. If food is love, I feel like I'm getting a giant hug. We'll be seeing you in Burbank soon enough for your training."
Jeffrey's eyebrows go up, "Will Gretchen be there?"
Sarah nods. Chuck cautions her, "Sarah, don't get his hopes up too high. You know that's a situation in flux. Jeffrey, Gretchen is working through some issues. I do believe you might be a great person to support her through those issues. However, she may not be equipped to accept that support. There is also the fact that she'll be assigned in Burbank indefinitely, and your folks are here. I can talk to Ellie and ask her if she knows any nice women, she's willing to introduce you to. I'll ask her if she can find a nice Jewish doctor, that should make Momma happy."
Jeffrey laughs, "Happy? That's an understatement. She'll have a heart attack from happiness." They all laugh.
Jeffrey waves as he climbs into the limo and drives off. Sarah puts her arm around Chuck and leans her head on his shoulder as they move up the walk to the house. "He's a good man. I feel fortunate that he came into our lives."
Chuck holds her close, "I agree, but Baby we need to give Gretchen some time to find herself. It may take a while for her to discover who she is. You didn't become Sarah Bartowski overnight."
Sarah sighs, "I know Hon. Forgive my enthusiasm. I'm so happy, I want to share what you've given me, with my friend. I want her to have a good man who'll support her."
Chuck reaches out to open the door. "Thank you, Sarah. That was a nice compliment. I want you to remember that you needed some time to accept my support. Gretchen shares many of your issues. I think right now you're the best person to support her. She trusts you and you know what she's going through. Be her friend, not her matchmaker. I'll be her boss and do my best to teach her how to stay inside the boundaries. The rest of the team will support her and us."
Sarah puts her hand on Chuck's to stop him from opening the door. She pulls him to her and kisses him hard. Then lays her head on his chest. She sighs, "I have no idea how this happened, how we happened. I'm only glad it did. I don't think I'll ever get tired of loving you.
I'll need your help to support her."
Chuck laughs and kisses the top of her head. "Good to hear. I didn't realize getting tired of me was an option. I'll be right where I'll always be; by your side."
Sarah looks up and smiles, "Not an option, a gratitude. I have no doubt where you'll be. We should go in. I'm getting up early tomorrow to teach Ellie how to make a souffle. How about after breakfast you and Devon take Clara to the park. Ellie and I will be calling Joyce about wedding plans. Unless of course you want to stick around and add your two cents."
Chuck opens the door, "Wow, the park sounds like a great idea."
Sarah laughs, "Yeah, I thought you might like it. Hon really is there anything special you want for our wedding?"
Chuck thinks for a moment as he closes the door behind them. "Yep, I want the most beautiful, intelligent, capable woman in the world to be standing in front of me saying 'I do'."
Sarah smiles, "That's a tall order. I'll check with Ellie and see if she knows anyone like that."
Ellie catches the tail end of that when she comes into the room. "Anyone like what?"
Sarah laughs, "Chuck is looking for the perfect woman to marry. I was about to remind him that he's stuck with me. Tomorrow morning seven A.M. in the kitchen. It's time to make those souffles and tell you a few stories about some things you missed."
Ellie gets excited, "I've always wondered how you two really met."
Chuck gets a worried look. "Ellie, you have to remember, I was in an awkward position. I was working for the government on a top-secret assignment. Hell, I was the top-secret assignment. I was the secret; Sarah was the agent. I felt terrible about lying to you, but I was stuck."
"It's true Ellie, we had a lot of arguments in the early days. I couldn't let him tell you the truth. Not only to protect him, but to protect you and Devon as well. He was miserable about it. If you want to know how miserable, I'll tell you about the deli girl."
Chuck throws his hands up, "Okay, I get it. I'm in big trouble, I have no secrets. She still won't let me eat a Chuck Bartowski." Ellie looks at him like he's crazy.
Sarah laughs, "Come on Hon, time for bed. Ellie, I'll tell you all about it tomorrow. Remember we're calling Joyce and Alex to talk wedding plans. Good night."
Sarah comes into the bedroom makeup removed, ready for bed in a short nightie. She gets something from the suitcase and walks towards the bed rubbing her hands. Chuck is staring at her intently. She cocks her head in a questioning manner. Is there a problem Original Bartowski? Do you disapprove of my sleeping attire?" Chuck shakes his head. "Okay, then please explain that look."
Chuck sighs. "I was just thinking how lucky I am New Bartowski. Not just because of how beautiful you are. Mostly because of how you make me feel. I'm so in love with you. I get lost in my feelings for you and it makes it hard for me to think."
Sarah smiles and climbs under the covers with her husband. "Did you say something is hard? That's a good thing, right?"
Chuck laughs. "Yes, my love, everything about you is a good thing."
Sarah lays her head on his chest, "Baby, thank you for loving me. Thank you for bringing me into this wonderful family. Now shut up and make love to your wife."
Sarah wakes up when her cell phone softly chirps. She groans and pulls herself tight to Chuck's body, her head on his chest. Chuck puts his arm around her and helps her get as close as possible. She kisses his chest. "Chuck, will you marry me and make me the happiest woman on earth?"
Chuck kisses the top of her head. "Yes, I will. Seems only fair since I'm the happiest man on earth."
Sarah sighs, "Excellent choice. Right now, I need to get up and teach your sister how to make a souffle. I'm going to make a chocolate and a cheese; I think a nice fruit salad to go with that."
Chuck holds her tight, "A genius spy at work. A gourmet cook in the kitchen. And an insatiable slut in the bedroom. I am indeed a lucky man."
Sarah gets up and throws her robe on. "Well husband, if you want to keep those man parts, you'll never repeat that last part to anyone else. That's our little secret."
Chuck nods, "Wouldn't think of it. But I do have to wonder who would miss them more."
Sarah leans down and kisses him. "Hush don't be a wise guy; we both know it would be me. You go ahead and get some sleep. It'll be a while before breakfast is ready. Make sure when you come down you do it quietly. If you deflate my souffles, I will not be happy."
"Okay Baby, but more sleep isn't in the cards. Since you'll be otherwise occupied, I'm going to get a little work done. Then I have to call Remy when the office opens. I'm going to bring in an operative to babysit the family until we hear all clear from my mom, or Beckman. Remember we're getting picked up at two. Did you still want to fly us home?"
Sarah considers as she pulls out her fresh clothes. "I thought we discussed that you were taking time off for family. I think maybe just the takeoff and landing, we can let HM watch the autopilot. I don't want to give up all my cuddle time with you. Do we have some idea how busy we'll be once we get home?"
Chuck nods, "Family time ended yesterday. I was supposed to be back in the office working this morning. I'm only going to work for an hour or so, until you call me to breakfast. I have some idea of how busy we'll be. I'm going to be focused on finding Ryker. We have to work with Gretchen on creating her new training program. If we don't keep her busy, she's likely to get in trouble. Morgan and I have to finalize those government contracts. I'll have to soothe some people who might have concerns about Gretchen's clearance. I'm fairly certain we'll be busy, not to mention we'll have a house guest for a few weeks."
"Hon, I really appreciate what you're doing for her. I'm going to grab a quick shower and get dressed. You get yourself ready for some world class cuddling before I go downstairs to cook."
When Sarah arrives in the kitchen Ellie is waiting for her. She gives her a hug, "Hi Sis, I'm really looking forward to this time alone with you."
Ellie hugs her back. She backs up a step and looks into Sarah's eyes, and sighs. "Me too, let's cook, but more importantly, let's dish."
Sarah laughs. "Okay. I guess I should start at the beginning." She starts to work on the souffles as she talks. "The most important thing you need to know about a souffle is whipping the egg whites perfectly. The most important thing you need to know about me, and Chuck is that the first day I met him I had orders to kill him if required."
Ellie gasps, "Excuse me."
Sarah laughs, "Relax Ellie, I didn't do it. There was something about him that made me want to protect him right from the start." She tells the story of the first meeting while preparing the food. Ellie is attentive to both. "I guess the important thing to emphasize is that Casey and I didn't care much for each other in the beginning. He's one of our best friends now. But at that point in time, he convinced Chuck that I was not to be trusted. Chuck was new to the intersect and wasn't always good at interpreting his flashes. He saw me poisoning a group of diplomats. Actually, they were assassins. He and Casey were convinced that the souffle I brought over was poisoned. You know what happened next. I can't tell you everything, but I can tell you enough to torture your brother."
Sarah and Ellie were giggling when Chuck quietly entered the kitchen. They immediately get quiet. Sarah puts her finger to her lips, "Shhhh." She puts her arms around him and whispers in his ear, "Go wake Devon and Clara. Keep her in her room and quiet until we come get you."
Ellie steps over to hug him also. She whispers, "Did Mom actually shoot you?"
Chuck smiles and nods, "But that wasn't as bad as when she almost blew us up." He turns and heads towards the bedrooms. Ellie stands there her jaw heading towards the floor.
Ellie is animated when she rejoins Sarah and grabs her by the arm. Sarah drops the fruit she's cutting and allows Ellie to pull her into the living room. Ellie still whispering, "My mom tried to blow you up?"
"Oh, did I forget to mention that. Yes, she did, when she blew up your family home."
Ellie's eyes go wide, "She blew up our family home?"
Sarah nods, still whispering, "Well yeah, when she destroyed your father's secret base under it. But she gave me a razor blade so I could save us. That was when she repressed the intersect in Chuck. Of course, that led to him being abducted, held, and tortured in Thailand. I was not pretty then. I'm just glad that Chuck was unconscious and didn't see me murdering people across the Thai countryside." Sarah giggles softly, "They called me the Giant Blonde She-Male. I think maybe they thought I was She-Hulk. You know that green superhero in the comics. Casey says the criminal element was terrified of me. It would have been fun if Chuck's life weren't threatened."
Ellie collapses onto the couch. She stares at Sarah. "I'm not sure I want to know anymore. No… you have to tell me all of it. My brother is a superhero, isn't he?"
Sarah nods, "I thought you knew that. Ellie, Chuck has saved millions of lives in the last six years. When you made him give up the CIA, the world suffered. He still helped out, but he always felt terrible about lying to you.
That was one of the issues that we had to deal with. I've never been anything but a spy. I couldn't fathom being a wife, a mom, a homebody. Your brother is so much more than I deserve. In all our adventures he's only harmed one person. That was the man who was trying to kill me. You remember Shaw, the guy who killed your father. The guy you knocked out to save Chuck. Chuck shot him in Paris. I think it still haunts him to this day, even though Shaw didn't die. He still won't pick up a gun, even though he's an expert marksman.
Chuck wouldn't force me to change my ways, he hasn't even asked me to. But I've decided that a killer is not who I want to be. My life has changed so much since I met him. I want him and our kids…and you to be proud of me. I want you to know that you can trust me with Clara, and she will get only love and warmth." Sarah laughs quietly, "Chuck Bartowski's greatest magic trick was turning Sarah Walker into a real girl."
Ellie looks at her, "Sarah, I'm not sure that's a compliment. You've always been real and you're a woman not a girl."
Sarah smiles, "Of course Ellie, you're right. Chuck treats me with the greatest respect. It's an inside joke from one of our missions. It was in the suburbs; we were surrounded by bad guys. It was the first time I cooked for Chuck. He was shocked when I served him that omelet." Sarah gets a faraway look in her eyes, "That was another time I almost lost him. Another time that he and Casey saved me."
Ellie sees the sadness on Sarah's face and puts her arms around her. "That's over. You're here now and I'm very proud of you. Devon and I have already discussed it; if anything happens to us, you and Chuck will be Clara's guardians. I trust you completely, both of you."
Sarah's tears wet Ellie's shirt as she hugs her hard. "Thanks Sis. Hopefully the need won't arise. If it should; you have my word, she'll be well taken care of. We better check our souffles. Hate to make all that effort and wind up with scrambled eggs. We still need to finish the fruit salad." Sarah moves into the kitchen and gently slowly opens the door to the oven. Her face is taken over by her smile. "Go get the boys and Clara, they're beautiful. Look at that rise. Tell them to come in quietly, I'm not taking any chances." Sarah removes the souffles and sets them on the table. She goes back into the kitchen to finish the fruit salad and is putting it on the table as the family rejoins her.
Chuck puts his arms around her, "Baby, they look beautiful. Not even close to my wife, but beautiful in an eggy kind of way."
They all sit at the table Clara points, "Can I have the chocolate one please?" Sarah gently moves mounds of the fragile dish to a plate, some of each, then she hands the plate to Ellie to add the fruit salad. After everyone is served Sarah sits down, "I hope no one minds if I hold breakfast up for one more minute. Thank you all for being in my life. Thank you for the opportunity to share this with my family. Thank you all for letting me love you. Dig in. If you like it tell me. If you hate it, ask for seconds." Devon chuckles.
Ellie stares at Chuck, "Little brother you light this one on fire you better jump into the flames. Your wife slaved over this all morning."
Everyone laughs as they put a forkful into their mouths. The taste is immediately followed by moans around the table. Devon is the first to speak, "Bro you are one lucky man. A woman who looks like that and can cook like this? Beyond lucky."
Ellie looks up from her plate, "She taught me how to make it, but I wouldn't count on having it every Sunday. It takes a lot of work and finesse. We may have to wait for a visit to Burbank to get some more this good."
Clara holds her plate up, her mouth circled with chocolate. "May I have some more, please, it's so yummy."
Sarah serves Clara another helping. She's beaming as she soaks up the compliments.
As Ellie starts in on her second helping, "Yep, Mrs. Bartowski, not bad for a Giant Blonde She-Male."
Chuck is sipping some orange juice when he laughs. Juice comes flying out of his nose. Sarah hands him a napkin. "You know the last time this happened he wound up proposing to me. Not right away, but soon enough."
The family eats up every last bit of food. Ellie and Devon start to clear the table. "Clara Sweetheart, I hope you don't mind, you won't be going to school today. Daddy and uncle Chuck will be taking you to the park."
Clara scream "YAY. Can Beauty come too?"
Devon smiles, "Baby girl that would be awesome, but remember she's your responsibility. Are you sure you want to take the chance of losing her?"
Clara thinks a moment, "I think you're right Daddy, she'll be safer at home."
Chuck kisses Sarah, "Baby, that was delicious. I'm going to run upstairs and call Remy. Do you need me for anything?"
Sarah puts the back of her hand against her forehead and does her best Sarah Bernhardt impression, "No Darling, cleaning up is a housewife's drudgery. Why don't you go off to the club and have a drink with the boys?"
Chuck kisses her again. "I'm not sure hanging out with Momma is a good idea. I'm starting to feel Jeffrey's pain."
Sarah laughs, "Go take care of business and spend time with your niece. We have to call Joyce and discuss wedding plans."
"Okay, say hi for me, send my best to Frank. Devon, I'll be back down in ten minutes." Chuck heads upstairs.
Chuck lies back on the bed and dials CI Chicago. "Carmichael Industries, how may I direct your call?"
"This is Chuck Bartowski, Laura. Is Remy free?"
"Good morning, Sir, let me check." There is a short pause. "Putting you through to his office now."
"Morning Chuck, what's up? Isn't it kinda of early in Burbank?"
"It is Remy, but I'm still in Chicago. Something came up. Do you have an operative who can play nanny slash housekeeper for a couple of days. I need someone to watch over my family until further notice."
Remy considers for a moment. "I think I have the perfect woman for the job. Let me just make sure she isn't out on assignment. I'm going to put you on hold for a moment." The line gets quiet. Two minutes later, "Okay Boss, she's clear, when do you want her?"
"Have her at my sister's house say noon. Remy, this is my family, is she good?"
"One of my best Chuck, I know how important Ellie is to you. I still remember her visits at Stanford. The whole frat house was drooling. Make sure she has my number if she needs anything else."
"Thanks Remy. Armed and concealed. Bill me personally."
"Chuck, don't be silly, I can absorb this."
"Remy, didn't I just ream you for low numbers? Charge me, I can afford it."
"Fine, but I'm giving you the friends and family discount."
"Sounds fair, talk to you later."
Chuck heads back down where he finds Clara ready to go play. "Uncle Chuck, what took you so long?"
Chuck scoops Clara up into his arms, "I'm sorry Clara Doll, I was arranging some help for Mommy. Somebody to play with you once we've gone home. She'll be here around noon." Devon nods and Ellie smiles, a look of relief on her face."
"Chuck, um what's the story on our visitor?" Chuck blows a raspberry on Clara's neck to distract her. She laughs out loud.
"No worries El, you know how slow the government works. Plus, I'm sure Mom has gotten involved and will be doing a deep dive on our friend. Baby The new nanny should arrive around noon. In case I'm not back in time, do a double check on credentials."
Sarah moves over and kisses Chuck, "Thanks Hon, since I was born yesterday, I wouldn't have known to do that."
Chuck's face screws up into a grimace, "Ouch! That's it. From now on the only Polish food you get, is takeout."
Clara exclaims, upset, "No, I want to see Bubby again."
Sarah laughs and kisses Clara, "Relax Cutie, Uncle Chuck is joking."
Chuck laughs, "Sorry Clara, I didn't mean to scare you, we love Bubby too. I was teasing Auntie Sarah."
"Uncle Chuck, it's not nice to tease Auntie Sarah."
Chuck is upset. "But she teased me first!"
"Mommy says two wrongs don't make a right. You both need to be nice."
Chuck hugs Clara and kisses her. "When did my little niece get so smart?"
Clara shrugs. Ellie comes over and give her a kiss. "She's always been that smart, if you visited more, you would know that."
Chuck smacks his forehead, "OY! Devon, we need to get out of here. I'm getting destroyed by the women I love."
Chuck and Devon head out to the park with Clara. Sarah and Ellie sit at the living room table. Sarah puts her cell phone on speaker and presses the speed dial buttons. Alex's voice comes out of the phone. "Hi Sarah, are you having a good time? We miss you and Chuck."
"We miss you guys too Alex, we should be home tonight. You're on speaker with me and Ellie and we're about to bring Joyce in."
"Cool, Hi Ellie. It's been too long. Do you believe they're getting married at the White House?"
Ellie is excited. "I know, I got to talk to the President. This is crazy."
Alex screams, YOU DID WHAT? Why do I keep missing the big stuff."
Sarah laughs. "Relax, Ellie hasn't gotten to speak to Joyce. You're even. You'll both get to meet them at the wedding. Right now, we need to get Joyce on the phone so my two Matrons of Honor can help me get this wedding done."
There's a pause. Alex speaks up, "Works for me." Ellie smiles, "Me too."
"Good, standby, dialing FLOTUS."
The phone rings twice, "White House, First Lady's office."
"Hi, this is Sarah Bartowski, for the First Lady."
"Yes Ma'am, I was told to put you right through, please hold."
The phone rings once. "Sarah, Honey are you okay? Frank is all worked up about something happening with you folks. Of course, I'm being kept in the dark. I hate that whole need-to-know thing."
Alex speaks out, "Boy I get that. Hi Joyce."
Sarah laughs, "Joyce you're on speaker with me and Ellie, My other sister. Alex is in L.A. Chuck sends his best to you and Frank.
They're my Matrons of Honor and will be playing a big role in planning the wedding. We're fine, having a great visit."
"Hi Alex, good to hear you again. Hello Ellie, or should I say Dr. Woodcomb. My husband is totally fanboying you. He wants you in DC, or at least your brain." The ladies laugh. "In any case I'm glad to hear from you. Are we still going with the Star Wars theme?"
Ellie abruptly yells, upset. "WHAT? That's ridiculous, this is your wedding not ComiCon."
Alex adds, "Yeah, I was afraid to say anything, but I agree with Ellie."
Sarah is upset, "It's his wedding too, I want it to be special for him."
Ellie puts her hand on Sarah's. "Sweetie, the wedding is for you, the honeymoon is for him." The ladies laugh.
Sarah's face shows her frustration, "Joyce what do you think?"
There's a pause before she answers. "Sarah it's your wedding, and I certainly don't carry the weight your sisters do. However, I have to agree with them. More importantly, I'm sure that Chuck will be happy with whatever makes you happy. I think that's what he would want most."
Sarah takes a deep breath and leans back in her chair. The ladies are patient giving her a moment. She leans forward, "Okay, what do you have in mind? Just remember I want gardenias."
A few minutes before noon, Chuck, Devon, and Clara arrive. Clara announces, "We got lunch, we went to the clown place."
"Chuck it's not enough you spoil her to no end. Do you have to fill her up with fat laden, greasy, salty foods?"
Chuck puts his hands up, "Whoa El, her father, a doctor, was there. Why is it my fault?"
Devon sneers at him, "Thanks Bro, way to throw me under the bus."
Ellie grunts, "Clara are you clear that this is a special time because your uncle and auntie are visiting? That when they leave, we go back to eating healthy."
Clara nods, "Yes Mommy."
Ellie capitulates, "Fine, I hope you got me a cheeseburger and fries."
Clara smiles, "We did Mommy, a double cheeseburger, and a large fries. Daddy said it's your favorite." They all laugh when Ellie's face goes red.
The family is chatting loudly when the doorbell rings. The table goes silent. Sarah calmly, slowly puts her hand under the table when Chuck gets up to open the door. He looks through the peep hole and then opens the door.
A very attractive young woman is standing there. She has a small suitcase in her left hand. She extends her right hand holding an I.D. wallet. "Good afternoon Mr. Bartowski, we met briefly on Saturday. I'm April Dancer, Mr. Steele assigned me to keep an eye on your family."
Chuck takes the I.D. and looks at it carefully, then looks up at Dancer's face. "I remember, you were in the conference room." He hands the I.D. back; she puts it in her pocket. "Please come in, I'll introduce you."
When the woman walks past Chuck he reaches for her concealed gun. She quickly grabs his hand and twisting the wrist puts him on his knees. "I'm sorry Sir, I know you're my boss, but that's my personal property. I'm afraid I can't let you touch it."
Chuck smiles and nods. She releases his hand, and he stands up. "You remember Mrs. Bartowski." She nods at Sarah, Sarah smiles. He points at Ellie, "My sister Dr. Woodcomb, her husband Dr. Woodcomb." He walks over and picks up Clara, "This is Clara Woodcomb, my niece, your charge."
Chuck puts Clara down and she walks over to Dancer. She extends her hand, "Hi, I'm Clara, Uncle Chuck said you're going to be my nanny. I've never had a nanny before."
Dancer kneels down and gets at eye level with Clara she takes her hand and shakes it. "I'm April, I'm hoping to be more than your nanny. I'm hoping to be your friend."
Clara abruptly drops April's hand and runs towards her bedroom. Ellie stands up, "My apologies Ms. Dancer, I've never seen Clara act so rudely."
"No apologies necessary Dr. Woodcomb, sometimes these things don't work out."
Clara comes running back into the room. "April, this is my unicorn, Beauty. Uncle Chuck and Auntie Sarah brought her to live with me. She likes tea parties. Do you like tea parties?"
April smiles, "I do, I love tea parties."
"Uncle Chuck and Auntie Sarah are going home today; we should have a tea party before they go. Uncle Chuck gave me a unicorn teapot."
"Your aunt and uncle must love you very much to give you such a lovely unicorn."
Clara nods. "They do, I love them lots too. Uncle Chuck, Auntie Sarah will you come to your farewell tea party. Mommy and Daddy, you too."
Ellie walks towards the kitchen, "That sounds like a fun idea Sweetheart, I'll get the treats Bubby sent. We can have it with our tea. Maybe we could have the party in here, where there's room for everyone."
"Okay Mommy, I'll get the teapot. April, do you want to see my room?"
April stands up, "I sure would. I'll bet it's great."
April follows Clara to the bedroom. Ellie returns to the table with the treats. "Thanks Chuck. I feel better. I won't feel quite as safe as with the two of you here, but pretty close. I'll feel better when we know who that guy was."
Devon stands up and hugs Chuck, "Thanks Bro, you come through every time."
Chuck hugs him back, "No more than you guys came through for me and us. Devon, you know that Morgan has been…"
Devon slaps his back, "Say no more Bro, I'd be honored to be an usher."
Chuck smiles, "Thanks Awesome. You're still awesome."
The energy at the tea party is high. April's bonding interaction with Clara comforts the others. The chat and laughter is non-stop but comes to a sudden halt when Sarah announces, "Hon, we really should get packed."
Clara cries out, "NO! I don't want you to go. You're making Beauty sad."
Sarah gets up and takes Clara in her arms, "I don't want to go either, I'm sad too. I promise we'll see you more often. Will you come and visit us in Burbank? Then you can play with MJ and LJ and Uncle Chuck, and I may have another surprise too. Would you and Beauty like to come upstairs with me and help me pack?"
Clara wipes tears off her cheek with the back of her hand, "Yes, please." Clara clings tightly to Sarah as she carries her up the stairs.
Chuck wipes a tear from his eye. "I hate this part. I miss you guys so much. Please, consider coming home to Burbank. I'll do whatever it takes to make it easy for you."
Devon stands up and pats Chuck on the back, "We miss you too Bro. As far as Burbank goes… We're in."
Chuck's head pops up, "Really!"
Ellie smiles wide, "Yes little brother, we've decided that moving back to Burbank would be best for our family. Don't get too excited we still have six months on our contracts, but that will give us time to find jobs, get the house sold and get your clinic set up."
Chuck jumps up and pulls Ellie out of her chair. He hugs her tight. "Ellie…Devon…that isAwesome. Until then you can come visit, stay with us and house hunt."
Sarah comes down the stairs suitcase in one hand, Clara grasping the other. "Ellie if you give me some fresh linens, I'll get the room ready for April."
Ellie responds, "Don't worry Sarah, I'll take care of it."
April waves her hand, "That won't be necessary Ma'am, Clara and I have decided to have a pajama party. I'll be sleeping on the floor in her room."
Ellie smiles, "Are you sure?"
April nods, "Ma'am, I can't think of anything I would enjoy more."
Ellie smiles, "Devon, why you don't get that pad out of the garage. You know the one we use for camping."
April smiles, "Please Sir don't go to too much trouble. I'll be fine. I'm sure Clara's floor will be more comfortable than the sand in Afghanistan."
Chuck's phone chimes, he reads it and looks up, "Who wants to see Jeffrey?"
Clara jumps up and down, "I do, so does Beauty."
Chuck picks up the suitcase, "Well, let's go he's waiting outside." Sarah grabs his travel case.
Once outside Jeffrey takes the suitcase and puts it in the trunk. Sarah puts the travel case in the back seat. Chuck takes him aside and has a brief conversation quietly. Jeffrey nods and gets behind the wheel. Chuck pulls Ellie aside. He whispers, "Jeffrey said he'll bring you back if you want to take a ride to the airport with us."
Ellie smiles, "Clara would love that. Once again Uncle Chuck spoils his niece."
Chuck laughs, "Wait until I invite her to come on the company jet."
Ellie shakes her head, "Let me talk to Devon."
Ellie walks over and whispers to Devon. Everyone turns when he yells out, "OH HELL YEAH!"
Devon heads up the walk to the house. Clara tugs on Ellie's pants. "Mommy where's Daddy going?"
She smiles and picks Clara up, "He's going to lock up the house so we can go to the airport with your aunt and uncle."
Clara's eyes go wide, she throws her hands up and opens her mouth wide, "OH BOY."
April smiles at Clara's enthusiastic reaction. "With your permission Sir, I'll join and ride up front with the chauffeur."
Chuck opens the door for her, "Of course you're welcome to join us. She climbs in and Chuck bends to talk across her. "Jeffrey, this is April. She works for my company and will be keeping my family company for a while. April this is Jeffrey, in a couple of weeks he'll be your work colleague, he's joining my staff."
April reaches her hand over, Jeffrey shakes it. "Hello Jeffrey, it's nice to meet you."
"Jeffrey, when it comes to protecting my family, April speaks with my voice. April, Jeffrey has great instincts, trust him. I'll see you at the airport."
The family is loaded up and Chuck climbs in to join them. "Okay Jeffrey, time to go."
The ride to the airport is animated, Clara is excited about her new friend April. She seems to have forgotten that they're about to part. The limo pulls into the hangar and the family disembarks. HM is standing by the hatch to the aircraft. When Clara steps out of the limo, her eyes go wide. She runs up to Chuck and raises her arms to be picked up. "Uncle Chuck, is that your airplane?" Chuck nods. "Can Beauty go on it?"
Chuck smiles, "Of course, she's family, isn't she?"
Clara nods enthusiastically. Chuck carries her to the jet. He takes a quick look to be sure that Sarah has his "leash" (travel case).
When they arrive at the steps into the plane Chuck stops. "Everyone this is HM Murdock, our company pilot. HM this is my family, Dr., and Dr. Woodcomb and this is Clara." Chuck puts his niece down. "HM would you give them the grand tour, make sure Clara gets to sit in the pilot's seat. Oh, by the way Mrs. Bartowski will be getting us off the ground. Okay guys have fun, I'll join you in a minute. April a moment, please?" HM climbs up the steps into the craft followed by the family.
Sarah and Chuck huddle with April, "Sarah, why don't you read April in."
Sarah nods, "We caught a prowler outside the Woodcomb home. He appeared to be Chinese. Because we deal with confidential government material the matter was turned over to the NSA. They swept the house; it was heavily bugged. We left a jammer in the living room, just in case. Until we hear back and know what's what, we want the family protected. That's why you're here. Mr. Steele speaks highly of you. This is our family, please don't disappoint us."
April listens with rapt attention, she nods as Sarah speaks. When Sarah is done, she thinks a moment. "I can't make guarantees because I don't know what will come my way. However, I can tell you that I will protect your family as if they were my own. Nothing bad will happen to them while I'm still breathing."
Chuck nods, "Thank you. Oh, one more thing. You may catch sight of people watching you. If you do, let me know immediately. It could be government agents. I have connections, I can get answers in minutes." Chuck hesitates and grunts, he looks at Sarah, she nods. "Okay full disclosure my mom is the Director of Central Intelligence; she can be overprotective. If you see someone suspicious, don't freak out, stay alert and call me. I'll leave word with Mrs. Sawyer, my Office Manager, to put you right through."
April smiles, "I get it. My Mom calls me a lot to be sure I'm okay. She still doesn't get that I was a Ranger and what that means. Moms will always be moms. Mr. and Mrs. Bartowski, it's my honor to be given this responsibility. I promise I don't take that lightly."
Sarah pats her on the back, "We believe you April, now it's time to say good-bye. Come on Hon, this isn't going to be easy."
"Sarah, let's not forget Jeffrey." Sarah nods as they head back over to the limo. Chuck approaches Jeffrey with his hand extended, "Jeffrey, I know we haven't known each other long, but I'm going to miss you."
Jeffrey smiles as he shakes Chuck's hand vigorously, "I feel the same Sir, I know Momma will miss you too. It'll be great if Clara and her Mom come to the restaurant. Momma was raving about your niece like she was her own."
Sarah hugs Jeffrey, "I'll miss you lots, but we'll see you soon in Burbank for your training. Well, I have to go over the preflight checklist, I'll leave you gentlemen to say goodbye." She leans up and kisses Jeffrey on the cheek, then heads to the plane.
"Guess I better head to the plane too. We need to get in the air. Jeffrey thank you for being so nice to Clara, she loves you."
"Chuck it was totally my pleasure. I can't wait for her to grow up so I can marry her." Chuck laughs. "Boss, can I ask you a question?" Chuck nods. "Is it a requirement for all CI employees to be super-hot women?"
Chuck laughs hard, "No Jeffrey, that's pure coincidence. Our employees are hired based on their skills and abilities, just like you."
Jeffrey puts on a shocked look, "Boss, did you just say I'm super-hot?"
Chuck laughs and wraps his arms around Jeffrey giving him a big hug, "About time you got payback. We'll see you soon. Stay safe."
Chuck heads to the aircraft, as soon as he climbs the short staircase and enters the cabin, he's attacked by a little girl jumping into his arms. "Uncle Chuck your jet plane is soooo awesome. I got to be the pilot and Auntie Sarah said she's going to teach me to fly a plane when I get old enough."
Chuck hugs her, "I'm glad you like it Clara doll, if your aunt says she's going to teach you she will. Did Beauty like it?"
Clara nods her head rapidly, "She loved it."
"I'm glad. You know I'm going to be one sad uncle without his niece to have tea parties with."
Clara lays her head on his shoulder, "I know Uncle Chuck, I'll miss you and Auntie Sarah a lot too. Mommy said maybe we'll live near you soon. Mommy also said we'll visit each other a lot."
"We will Sweetheart, I can't go too long without my Clara hugs."
Devon steps up his head bowed. "Have a safe flight Bro. We'll miss you. Thanks for an awesome weekend. We'll see you soon." He takes a teary Clara from Chuck's arms and heads out to the limo where Jeffrey and April are waiting.
Ellie moves into chuck's arms, "We've said our good-byes to Sarah." She lifts her head and smacks Chuck's shoulder. "You'd better take good care of my sister, and my little brother. Both of you stay out of trouble. You've had enough danger to last three lifetimes."
Chuck hugs his sister tight, "I'll do my best Sis, and I promise to take care of Sarah. I'll contact you as soon as I hear anything from Washington. In the meantime, April is well equipped to look after you guys."
Ellie hugs him hard, "Thank you Charles, you're aces."
Chuck smiles and hugs her back. "Thanks Sis. You'd better get going we have a long flight ahead of us. We'll talk soon."
Ellie lets him go and moves towards the exit hatch. "Sarah and I will be talking a lot to plan the wedding. You know she was going to do a Star Wars theme to make you happy."
Chuck smiles wide, "She's the best. I hope you talked her out of it. I want her to have her dream wedding. I already had mine. I married the woman of my dreams, I'm set. This one is for her."
Ellie smiles back, "We did. Have a safe flight. Give us a call when you're home safe. I don't care how late it is." Chuck nods. Ellie departs the plane. Chuck stands at the open hatch and waves goodbye as the limo leaves the hangar.
HM joins him, "I'll close up Sir, the Mrs. is ready to takeoff and waiting for you to join her."
Chuck clearly sad, nods his head, "Thanks HM, I'm on my way."
Chuck enters the cockpit and settles into the Co-pilots seat. He buckles his seat belt and closes his eyes to flash on flying the jet. Sarah looks over and can see he's having a hard time. "Baby, are you sure you want to do this? I'm fine with going into the cabin and cuddling."
Chuck shrugs, "Thanks Sweetheart, we'll get there. I'm going to be sad no matter where we sit. Have some fun. Watching you enjoy yourself will cheer me up."
Sarah shakes her head, "Chuck Bartowski, I love you so deep it makes my toes tingle."
The plane is jostled as it's towed out onto the apron. Chuck smiles, "Is someone hinting they want their toes sucked?"
Sarah laughs, "No Hon, it's me being grateful that I get to love you. Not that I would refuse an offer. Baby, I'm sad too. It may sound crazy, but I'm so happy that I'm sad. I could never in my wildest dreams have imagined loving and being loved so much. Thank you for this gift. Thank you for the other part of our family that we're flying to now. I'm so grateful for you and what you've brought into my life. Thank you for letting me love you, Chuck."
A voice announces in their headsets. "CI-One, you are cleared for takeoff. Taxi to Runway 4Lima/22Romeo, and hold."
Sarah starts the engines and watches the gauges and indicators to ensure everything is as it should be. Satisfied she responds, "Roger Tower, CI-One is cleared for takeoff, coming to Runway 4Lima/22Romeo." Sarah idles the craft to the head of the runway, in line behind two other small planes. The other two planes take off and Sarah gets the go ahead. She pushes the throttle, and the plane starts to rumble down the concrete.
Chuck smiles, Wow this sure is different than a fighter jet. He looks over at his wife and smiles, he can see the joy on her face. Sarah gets the plane in the air and hits cruising altitude. She sets the autopilot and clicks the cabin intercom. "Come on up HM, he's all yours."
Chuck looks at her, "He's?"
Sarah nods, well he's not a fighter jet, he's fragile. I'm still jealous you got to fly…"
The Cockpit door opens, and HM is standing outside, Sarah gets quiet. "Ready to take over, any special orders involving my manhood Ma'am?"
Sarah laughs, Chuck joins her. "Not at the moment HM, I'll let you know if that changes." She gets up and HM takes the pilot's seat. Chuck waits patiently while he gets situated. "I've got it Sir, enjoy the rest of your flight. Ma'am did you want to take us in?"
Sarah thinks a moment, she smiles at Chuck. "No thanks HM, I have something more important to tend to."
Chuck sits in one of the lounge chairs. Sarah climbs into his lap and kisses him. "Are you okay, Baby?"
Chuck smiles, "The hottest woman in the world is sitting on my lap. How could I not be, okay?"
Sarah moves a bit of hair off his forehead. "You'd better remember those words. I want to hear them again in fifty years."
"I'll try to remember. Maybe I should say it every day, so I don't forget."
Sarah kisses him, "I love you, Chuck. Would you like me to put on my stewardess uniform?"
Chuck laughs, "Is that what that was? Would you mind if I just hold you?"
Sarah smiles and rests her head on his shoulder. "I don't mind as long as you promise to hold me forever."
"Forever and a day Baby. Forever and a day."
Sarah is awakened by HM's voice over the intercom, "Bosses, we'll be touching down in twenty minutes. Approximately 1600 hours L.A. time, ten minutes to taxi to our hangar. Please buckle your seatbelts; in preparation for landing."
Sarah moans and snuggles into Chuck, "You have a great lap Chuck. That was a nice nap."
Chuck stretches then puts his arms around his wife and pulls her in tight. "It wasn't that great until you were in it."
Sarah smiles and kisses him, "I guess I'd better go buckle in, but I don't want to." Sarah gets up and stretches, then sits in the seat across from Chuck and buckles in.
The plane lands with barely a bump. Chuck smiles, "I do know how to hire well." The plane idles into the hangar and HM shuts it down. He exits the cockpit. "Well folks we're home. Let me drop the hatch and we'll get you on your way." Chuck and Sarah follow him to the rear of the craft. He drops the door opening the steps.
Chuck grabs his travel case and HM picks up their luggage. Sarah grabs it, "Uh uh HM we handle our own baggage." Chuck laughs as he exits the plane waiting at the bottom to help Sarah down. HM follows behind her.
"Thanks HM, good flight."
"Thanks Ma'am, glad I could please you and the Boss. I'll get my girl cleaned up, gassed up and ready for her next flight."
"Sorry HM, your aircraft is a male."
"Ma'am?"
"Was I not clear? She's a he."
"Yes of course Ma'am he's a he."
Chuck laughs, "Let's go Hon, you've confused him enough. I think he's questioning if he's a he."
Chuck and Sarah walk over to the Mustang, laughing all the way.
They load the bags into the trunk. Chuck reaches in and grabs the blanket and hands it to Sarah. "Hope you don't mind a quick stop on the way home." He closes the trunk.
Sarah takes the blanket and moves to the passenger door, Chuck opens it. "Chuck it's a little light out for hootchey kootchey on the beach,"
Sarah slides in, "Yes Dear, but it's always the perfect time to cuddle with my girl."
Chuck closes Sarah's door, walks around and climbs in the driver's seat. "Sarah, I want to visit our beach again because…" Chuck stops to think for a moment as he starts the car and heads out of the hangar. "…It's kind of like the pickled ginger when we have sushi. It's a palette cleanser, it separates the flavors so that the new tastes can be fully enjoyed. What we did this weekend was emotional, cleansing, and wonderful. It's time to go back to work. I want to bookend the experiences of this weekend. To keep it separate so I can close my eyes and savor the memories all over again."
Sarah stares at Chuck. Out of the side of her eye she can see the road vanishing under the car. She takes a deep breath and lets it out. She has no words for how she feels. Leaning over she rests her head on his shoulder. Finally, the words come to her. "I think I found the perfect nerd."
Chuck pulls his car into the parking lot bordering the beach. It's more crowded than usual. There are people playing in the water. People cooking over their fire rings, drinking beer and socializing. Chuck looks at Sarah, "Not what I hoped for. Did you bring your gun?"
Sarah laughs, "Now Baby, be nice. It is a public beach. Come on let's see if we can find a quiet spot. Taking the blanket, they leave their shoes in the trunk of the Mustang and head down the beach crossing the sand. Rounding a bunch of rocks, they find a quieter spot. They're not totally alone but they have some space. Sarah spreads the blanket; Chuck helps her down then joins her. He wraps his arms around her shoulders. She puts her arm around his waist and leans against his shoulder. "I love you Original Bartowski."
Chuck pulls her in tight, "I love you New Bartowski."
A/N sorry you had to wait so long for this chapter. My life took a bunch of twist and turns lately, and my brain was not working well. I've been at the keyboard every day, but I can't seem to get the words on the screen. However, hopefully I will be able to get back in the saddle again. It is my intention to invite all of my loyal reviewers to Charah's wedding. That means your screen name will appear in the story. If you don't want to be included, please let me know. Either in your review or by PM. Along those lines I am working on the wedding, if you have any ideas send me a PM, so that others can be surprised. All ideas will be credited in the chapter. Thanx for all your patience and support. LR

Polish main courses
Pierogi The most iconic Polish food of all time needs little introduction. Polish dumplings are made of thinly rolled-out dough filled with endless varieties of fillings, both savory and sweet, including meat, sauerkraut, wild mushrooms, cheese, bilberries, blueberries, or strawberries. Pierogi are boiled or fried and served steaming hot.
Gołąbki translates literally as little pigeons, although these cabbage rolls have nothing to do with birds at all. Typically, boiled cabbage leaves are wrapped around a filling of minced pork and rice. However, there are also other variations of fillings such as poultry and mutton, and others without meat. The rolls are then braised in stock. When laid on plates, a delicious dense home-made tomato sauce is poured over the gołąbki. Polish cabbage rolls are served with bread, sometimes with boiled potato
Kluski śląskie or Silesian Dumplings come from Silesia, a region in the southwest of Poland (think Wroclaw) that also encompasses small bits of Germany and the Czech Republic. Silesian Dumplings are so popular throughout Poland that they're readily available in the refrigerator case of supermarkets all over the country, coming in a package that reminds me of brown and serve rolls.
They are potato dumplings much like you'll find all over Central and Eastern Europe except for the addition of the indentation in the center of Silesian Dumplings. The shape has two benefits; it helps the dumpling cook faster and it is a wonderful repository for whatever topping is paired with the dumpling.
Polish Beef Rolls {Zrazy Zawijane}
Tender, aromatic beef in rich, smooth sauce… traditional Polish beef rolls, is one of the most signature Polish dishes.
