"Oh yeah, your gonna want this" Preston said as he threw a laser musket his way, "made a few adjustments to that one myself"

"Thanks Preston" Nate said as he looked over it.

The barrel was longer, and the crank looked a lot sturdier.

Nate and Preston started out of Sanctuary towards Cambridge.

"I'm really happy you decided to help us Nate, The Minutemen really seem like their about to come back"

"Well the feeling's mutual Preston, The Minutemen feel like a cause the whole commonwealth can get behind"

"Thanks Nate, that means a lot coming from you. We all really appreciate what you did for us"

"Don't mention it" Nate said.

A silence fell upon them for a little while after that.

Preston broke it by saying "You know, you clearly aren't going for 'recon' when you disappear for an hour. I just wanna keep things clean, I don't much care for secrets"

He didn't sound harsh, in fact he sounded a little worried for Nate.

Nate could see Cambridge on the horizon, and he didn't want to rush an explanation.

"Look, we seem to be getting close to Cambridge, so I'll tell you after"

Preston Smiled, "Good enough for me"

They started to run as they heard the fire of lasers and shouts of fury.

They ran into the city and found that the sounds was coming from a police station. They also found a horde of ghouls assaulting the station, some of which turning their attention to them.

"Here we go Garvey" Nate said with a nod as they jumped into action.

The rifle that Preston and Nate used proved to be effective, it's shots seemed to be more powerful.

They somehow managed to cover each other's reloads without coordinating.

After trudging through a couple of ghouls they managed to find the source of the gunfire.

It was three people desperately fighting against the ghouls, the one was in a suit of power armor and another one appeared wounded.

Nate noticed a ghoul going for the wounded soldier.

He breathed in, aimed and bang.

A red beam shot out from the rifle, removing the ghouls head.

This seemed to have alerted the soldiers to Nate and Preston's presence.

The one in power armor nodded at Nate before he shouted at the other two to watch their fire.

Preston was also keen to help any way he could, and he too started to relieve the ghouls of their heads.

Nate heard something to his left and turned to face the ghoul. He tried to turn the crank but it wouldn't budge, so he just smacked the ghoul with the handle.

The ghoul didn't seem to care, recovering quickly from Nate's hit, it grabbed his left arm and ripped a chunk of flesh out of it.

Preston then kicked it to the ground and blew it open with his rifle.

Nate dropped his rifle and pulled out his pistol. He was biting down so hard to ignore the pain, he swore he could feel his teeth cracking.

He got back to helping the soldiers, but every ghoul took 2 or 3 shots to put down, he found it extremely hard to focus.

Reloading the revolver was also a chore, every time he tried to use his left arm a wave of pain would pulse through his body.

Preston was doing most of the work on their part, but Nate still managed to put down a lot of the ghouls .

While he was trying to recover, leaning on a post, he could hear the man in power armor screaming some Latin phrases. He couldn't make out exactly what it sounded like though, but maybe he could try and speaking with them when this was all over.

And it did seem to be dying down, the ghouls left over were shambling and limping towards them, and even then it seems like there were only a handful left.

Eventually all the commotion died down and everyone got a bit more relaxed.

He and Preston talked a bit and Nate managed to convince him that he should be the one to introduce themselves to the soldiers.

The one in power armor walked back to check on the other two, one of them lying on the ground with a hand on his stomach.

Nate walked up to them and got the attention of the one in the power armor.

Clearing his throat he nervously said "uh… Salve, quis es?"

The man in the power armor turned around with a very confused look on his face.

"Excuse me?" He said.

"Oh good, you speak English" Nate said in relief, "Hello! We are with the Minutemen, we heard you needed some help so we came right away"

"Interesting" The man said under his breath. "Like a militia of sorts"

"We appreciate the assistance" He said in a regular tone. "We're apart of The Brotherhood Of Steel"

Preston found this was time to chime in. "Do you mind us asking what The Brotherhood is doing all the way out here?"

The man in power armor nodded and said, "I suppose we owe you that much. We were part of a recognizance mission sent out here to gather intel"

Both Nate and Preston knew that he was still keeping a lot from them, but they wouldn't pry just yet.

"I'm Paladin Danse, this is Knight Rhys, and Scribe Haylen"

Nate found it slightly eerie how formal he sounded.

Danse looked at them for a few more seconds, looking like he was making some sort of decision.

"Look, I see you two know how to handle yourselves in combat, and understand I wouldn't be asking this if I had any other option, but I'm afraid I'm going to need your help again. I'm lacking the man power to find a device that can get me and what's left of my crew out of this mess. I hope I'm not asking too much if I want you two to help me"

Preston looked at Nate, and he gave a nod.

"Sure" Nate said. "I'll just need a bandage and we'll be happy to help"

"Sure, we have some supplies in the Police Station" Danse said as he signaled Rhys and Haylen to go in, he followed soon after.

Preston looked at Nate. "Where the hell did you learn Latin?"

Nate was practically speaking through his teeth at his point. "I thought it was going to be some good credit for getting into a university until I got shipped off to the military"

"What do you mean university-"

"I'll explain later Preston, I really need to get this thing disinfected before I have to cut my arm off"

Preston eyes widened as he looed at his arm. "Oh right, come lets go"

Nate had a bit of a laugh inside when he realized that he was pretty good at hiding his pain.

They walked into the police station and asked Danse where some supplies would be.

"Behind the counter, we should have a few things there"

Nate walked and checked behind to counter, to his surprise there were bandages, but to his utter dismay, there was no antiseptic, disinfectant or anything close to that. He took the bandages and started looking around, Preston helping in his search.

"Come on, this is a police station for fucks sake, they have to have something" Nate said, his arm making his mood worse.

His arm was starting to go numb, which he figured probably wasn't a good sign.

After a few minutes of looking around the station, Preston came up to Nate. "Hey, I think I got something here" He said as he extended a bottle of whiskey to Nate.

Nate looked at it for a couple of seconds before taking it. "Yeah, this should do. I'm gonna need your help for this one Preston, I cant do it by myself"

Nate sat on a chair in the garage of the police station. Preston ripped a piece of clothing off some nearby slacks.

"Here" Preston said, handing the cloth to him. "Bite down on it"

Nate looked up at Preston, as if only now realizing how painful this was going to be.

Nate took the cloth and put it in his mouth.

Preston knelt down beside the chair and straightened out Nate's arm.

"You ready?" Preston asked.

Nate gave a slight nod and closed his eyes.

Preston poured to whiskey over Nate's flesh wound.

Even with the cloth, you could still hear the amount of pain Nate was in.

Preston, although he hated the sound of Nate's muffled screams, made sure to pour the whiskey over the entire wound, getting every inch.

After he got it he grabbed the bandages and wrapped it around Nate's shaking arm.

Nate was now just looking at the ground, breathing in deeply.

He spat the cloth out. "Jesus" He said between breaths. "That. Fucking. Hurt"

He leaned over and grabbed the now empty bottle of whiskey.

"Ah come on, couldn't even save me some" Nate said with a weak-ish smile.

Preston returned the smile and helped him up, "I had to make sure"

Nate looked at his arm and raised his eyebrows, it looked fine. You couldn't really tell what had happened to his arm.

Nate and Preston walked up to the Paladin, who was trying to act as if he hadn't heard anything.

"You two ready to roll out?" He asked.

"Ready as we'll ever be"
