Chapter One: The Train Ride
"Come on James! You are going to miss the train," said James' mother.
James lagged behind with a cart full of the year's school supplies. Not supplies for an ordinary school mind you, for James was not an ordinary boy. He was a wizard, and was attending a wizarding school called Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
He had black hair that never was tidy and glasses. He was five feet tall, athletic, studious, and more than a bit nervous about going away to school for the first time; however, he didn't want anyone to notice. James snapped back to reality at the sound of his mothers' voice. He had been thinking of what awaited him at Hogwarts.
"Ok, Mum, I'm going!" He hugged his mother, hurried through the hidden passageway to platform nine and three quarters, and boarded the train that would take him to the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
He looked around for a place to sit finding one right next to a boy with shaggy black hair. The older boy was already changed into his robes and was very tall, with piercing blue eyes.
"Er, may I sit here?" James said, a little worriedly.
"Sure, go ahead," the boy answered. "I'm Sirius, by the way." He offered his hand to James. James shook the boys' hand, pleased to have the seat and the two soon began talking about their summers.
As the conversation grew they became the best of friends. As they train began to pick up speed, a boy that was no taller than Sirius with brown hair came into the compartment carrying so many books James couldn't get a good look at the boy.
"What the bloody hell are you doing with so many books?" Sirius said, shocked.
"I wanted to do a bit of light reading, and they all wouldn't fit in my trunk," the boy answered. "When we get to Hogwarts, I will shrink them down for a bit so I can fit them in to my pocket." He put the books on the floor. "Hi, I'm Remus," the boy introduced himself in a nice sweet tone.
James and Sirius nodded and introduced themselves, and they all began to talk some more.
Soon, a trolley came by. The lady pushing it said to them, "Anything off the trolley, dears?"
They all bought a mountain of sweets, giving the lady their money. They ate their food and traded wizard cards from their chocolate frogs.
"You know, you two had better change in to your robes, I think we'll be there soon," Sirius said.
Remus and James both changed just as the train came to a stop. James looked out the window to see a castle looming over the horizon. He had never seen anything so big or magical like this before. Somehow he knew the year to follow was going to be one of the best years of his life.
