Chapter 31: Dawsyn Knows

"Mmm...Morning..." Derek whispered in Meredith's ear, as he rolled over in bed, and wrapped his arms around her.

"Mmmph..."

"Rise and shine...or just rise and kiss me..."

"Cheesy...too early." She groaned, swatting at her nose like she always did in her sleep.

"Mmm...Please..." He murmured.

"No..."

"You're not going to get many opportunities today to do it..." He chuckled.

"Is this all you think about?" She groaned.

"Pretty much."

"Mmm..."

"Now get over here and kiss me..." He laughed.

"But I'm sleeping." She mumbled.

"Come here..." He laughed, pulling her on top of him.

"It's too early..." She pouted, resting her head on his chest, her nose burying in his neck.

"I'm going to miss you today..."

"What time is it?"

"Hmm..Seven thirty..."

"Because she took the day off to go to the hospital with us...I thought we were all sleeping in." Meredith murmured as Derek ran his hand along her back.

"Right...but I won't get to be alone with you..." Derek whispered, kissing her neck.

"We are alone."

"For now."

"Derek...sleep..."

"Fine...I guess you don't want to spend time with me." He sighed.

"I'm risking my daughter catching us so I can get a good night sleep..."

"Sleep is underrated..."

"You're used to the lack of sleep as a doctor...I haven't experienced consistent sleep deprivation since Daws was six months old."

"Meredith..." Derek groaned, kissing her neck.

"What?" She groaned, shaking her body slightly.

"I want you..."

"Can I just lay here?" Meredith asked. "You do all the work...I sleep."

"No." Derek laughed.

"Derek..." Meredith pouted her lips, lifting her head so she could see him.

"Good morning." He smiled.

"Early..."

"I know."

"Ass..."

"You can't resist this face..." He grinned.

"Mean..." Meredith pouted.

"And I can't resist that." Derek laughed, kissing her.

"Hmm..."

"Mmm..." He murmured, deepening the kiss.

"Sleep now?" She giggled.

"Definitely not." He smiled.

"Hmm..." Meredith closed her eyes, resting her head on his chest.

"Don't go back to sleep." Derek whispered.

"Derek..."

"You won't get to do this...all day...Think about that."

"Yeah, but absence makes the heart grow fonder..."

"Mer..."

"Yes?" She lifted her head again.

"Kiss me."

"Ass." Meredith let out an angry but weak groan as she pressed her lips against his.

"Mmm..."

"I could have gone back to sleep if I tried harder." Meredith said, rolling off of him. "You seem to have trouble resisting my efforts."

"I just have trouble resisting you."

"Can you resist my fish face?" Meredith giggled tiredly, as she sucked in her cheeks and puckered her lips. "Hmm?"

"Absolutely not." He laughed, kissing her.

"Hmm..."

"Mmm...I have a question for you..."

"Yes?" She yawned slightly.

"Dinner...just you and me tonight?" He whispered.

"We can't do that..."

"Yes we can."

"Dawsyn has school tomorrow." Meredith whispered. "I can't just...she might figure it out if I go to dinner with you...without her."

"Good thing I came up with an excuse."

"Oh, and what was that?'

"Birthday party planning."

"Three months early?"

"Sure...Why not?"

"You want to go to dinner...or just have sex?"

"I want to go to dinner." He laughed.

"Fine..." Meredith whispered.

"And then sex."

"Hmm...in your car?"

"Car sex is good." Derek smiled.

"It is." Meredith giggled.

"Romantic dinner...and car sex."

"Sounds good."

"I'm happy that you and your daughter are talking again." Derek smiled.

"Me too."

"She missed you."

"Hmm...I missed her too." Meredith whispered.

"I can't believe I yelled at her." Derek chuckled.

"Hmm...she definitely noticed that."

"I felt kind of bad about it."

"Don't..." Meredith frowned, remembering the good things her daughter had said about Derek.

"I should leave that part up to you." Derek smiled.

"Derek...I just..." Meredith bit her lip. "This was the one thing...I don't think would have gotten fixed if you hadn't...you know."

"Acted just like my father?"

"No...Derek I wasn't lying when I said my daughter was crazy about you."

"And I wasn't lying when I said I was crazy about her...and you."

"You're cheesy."

"Maybe."

"Definitely."

"You think so?"

"I know so."

"I think...you need to arrange a sleepover for Daws."

"Oh, you do?"

"Uh huh..."

"And why is that Derek Shepherd?" Meredith giggled.

"Because Meredith Grey...I think we need to sleep at the trailer..."

"Ohh..."

"Maybe sleep outside...Have some wine..."

"And take advantage of me?" She yawned, as he hovered over her.

"You bet." He smiled, kissing her.

"It's early Derek..." Meredith whispered.

"And Daws is still asleep." Derek smiled against her lips.

"She is."

"Which means...we have time..."

"Time to sleep!"

"Nope...Time to have...sex..."

"This definitely isn't a punishment." He laughed, his hand moving up and down her side.

"Oh..." Meredith gasped, feeling his erection against her leg. "Good morning to you."

"Would you like to...take care of that?" Derek chuckled.

"Love too..." She whispered, nipping at his lip.

"Mmm...good..."

"Shh..."

"Mer..."

"Derek..." She giggled, his hand on her stomach as she kissed him deeply, not realizing the door to the bedroom swinging open. "Der..."

"Mmm..." He moaned, his hands tangling in her hair.

"Ahh!" They heard a scream, causing them to jump off of each other. "Mommy?"

"Oh God..." Meredith put her hand over her head, sitting up quickly.

"I...Daws...You're awake..." Derek stuttered.

"Mommy...Derek?" Dawsyn looked confused, looking between her mother and the man in her bed.

"Dawsyn..." Meredith's face turned red.

"Why was Derek kissing you?" Dawsyn frowned.

"I wasn't...She um...She had something stuck so I..."

"You were kissing her."

"Mouth to mouth...I was doing mouth to mouth."

"You were in her bed...under her covers." Dawsyn looked at him at strangely.

"A little help here..." Derek muttered, nudging Meredith.

"Crap..." Meredith couldn't say anything else, shaking her head slightly.

"Dawsyn...Why don't you um...I'll come down and get you some breakfast in a few minutes." Derek said.

"Did you sleep over?" Dawsyn asked suddenly.

"Did I...I um..."

"Were you having sex?" Dawsyn asked.

"No!" Meredith replied.

"No...No..." Derek added.

"Never." Meredith shouted.

"Right..."

"Why were you kissing my mom?"

"I don't...Why are you up this early, Daws?" Derek asked, avoiding the question.

"Cause you guys were laughing and I heard you." Dawsyn shrugged.

"How about some breakfast?" Derek said again.

"I...Dawsyn..." Meredith couldn't speak, looking between Derek and Dawsyn. "I...well...we were just...wrestling...Derek tried to beat me up."

"No I didn't...You're Mom's joking." Derek said, rolling his eyes at Meredith.

"So, you were kissing her?"

"Nice Derek..." Meredith groaned.

"We have to tell her..." Derek whispered.

"No..." Meredith shook her head.

"Tell me what?" Dawsyn looked at them quizzically.

"We have to." Derek whispered.

"Fine." Meredith shook her head, clearing her throat. "I was choking Daws and Derek..."

"Meredith." Derek groaned.

"But don't worry Derek saved me...and I'm not choking." Meredith laughed nervously. "Yay for CPR."

"Dawsyn..."

"What?" Dawsyn crossed her arms, looking really confused.

"Your Mom and I..."

"Oh God." Meredith pulled a pillow over her face.

"We're sort of...I don't really know how to explain it..." Derek said, taking a deep breath.

"Do you love each other?" Dawsyn asked innocently, approaching the bed.

"We're not talking about that." Meredith groaned.

"We have to talk to her, Mer." Derek whispered.

"No, we don't."

"Yeah...We do...We can't...She's right here and we just...rip the bandaid off..."

"What band aid?" Dawsyn scrunched her nose, much like her mother.

"This is up to your Mom." Derek sighed,

"I..." Meredith shook her head.

"Why were you kissing her? Why did my Mom choke?"

"She wasn't choking." Derek replied.

"I wish I was right now." Meredith mumbled.

"So you were kissing?" Dawsyn asked, moving next to her Mom who looked strangely uncomfortable.

"I can't tell you what's going on Daws, unless your Mom says it's okay."

"You can tell me...she's avoiding right now so she's not going to give you an answer." Dawsyn shrugged, "Right Mommy?"

"Ugh..."

"See." Dawsyn nodded.

"I see." Derek chuckled.

"So why were you kissing my Mommy?"

"Well..." Derek couldn't help but smile. "Because you're Mommy and I are sort of...together..."

"Are you and my Mommy in love?" Dawsyn smiled.

"You have to ask your Mommy that." Derek laughed.

"She's embarrassed." Dawsyn giggled as they both looked at Meredith.

"I'll tell you this." Derek smiled, looking at Meredith. "I really...really like her."

"Mommy...do you like Derek a lot?"

"I um...he's okay." Meredith smiled weakly, her eyes meeting Derek's.

"Just okay?" Derek laughed.

"I'm still deciding."

"Hey!" Derek pouted.

"So...why was Derek in bed with you?"

"I um...Derek stayed the night." Meredith whispered.

"Is that okay with you, Daws?" Derek asked.

"I think so." Dawsyn nodded.

"Good." Derek smiled. "Because I like spending the night here."

"And we can have real dinner!" Dawsyn beamed.

"Hey!" Meredith gasped.

"What?" Derek laughed, wrapping his arms around Meredith.

"I'm getting tired of carry out." Dawsyn giggled.

"Why don't you go downstairs and get something to eat and your Mom and I will be done in a few minutes?" Derek chuckled.

"Okay." Dawsyn smiled, pressing a kiss on Meredith's cheek. "I have one more question."

"Yes?" Meredith breathed.

"Can I have a baby brother or sister?" Dawsyn giggled, looking at Derek.

"It's definitely time for breakfast." Derek laughed.

"Please..."

"Dawsyn...that's...we're not talking about that." Meredith groaned.

"It's not that easy, kiddo."

"Yeah it is...you have sex...Scott told me at school."

"Okay..." Derek said loudly. "Breakfast."

"I promise to feed it and take care of it..."

"Dawsyn...downstairs."

"But..." Dawsyn frowned.

"We'll meet you downstairs in a few." Meredith warned.

"I'll make some french toast." Derek added.

"Okay." Dawsyn giggled; in her mind this was the best deal ever.

"We'll be right down." Derek laughed, shaking his head.

"Okay." Dawsyn ran to the door, closing it behind her.

"What...what just happened?"

"Your daughter knows about us." Derek smiled, trying not to laugh.

'That's...bad."

"Bad for who?"

"Us and...I just didn't want her to know."

"Are you upset with me?"

"I don't...I just...no not with you."

"Promise?" He whispered.

"Yeah...I just...I wasn't expecting her to take that well but...well she's Dawsyn and I should have thought about it."

"She took it...really well."

"Did she really ask for a baby brother or sister?" Meredith giggled awkwardly, falling back onto the bed.

"Yes she did." Derek laughed, leaning over, and kissing her lightly.

"I...I'm really sorry about that." Meredith shook her head. "She shouldn't...I'll talk to her. That was..."

"Really cute."

"I think she was just excited because she likes you and...she shouldn't have said that."

"I just want to know...Are we okay?"

"Yeah." Meredith bit her lip.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah...I just wasn't expecting that and I didn't want her to know but it was inevitable."

"So...what does this mean?"

"It means she knows."

"I mean for us..."

"It means she's waiting for us downstairs." Meredith replied.

"Meredith..." Derek whispered.

"What?"

"What do this mean for us?"

"It means my daughter knows we're...new at this and my daughter knows so we can try to...try this...you know?" Meredith whispered.

"Yeah...I know..." Derek smiled.

"And it means you have to ignore my daughter when she asks for babies and other...stuff."

"I can do that."

"Unless you want to..."

"Want to what?" Derek asked, linking their hands together.

"Have a um...sandwich."

"Have a sandwich?"

"Mmm...yeah." Meredith bit her lip.

"Now what were you really going to say?" Derek laughed, kissing her forehead.

"I was just saying...if you...if we I um...Dawsyn's waiting and she asked about..."

"Yeah..."

"We should probably go downstairs."

"What were you going to say, Mer?"

"Nothing." She smiled weakly.

"Do you really think you're getting away with that?" He smiled.

"Yeah."

"Fine."

"Hmm..."

"Let's go downstairs."

"We should." Meredith nodded, sliding out of the bed.

"Because I have to make french toast." Derek smiled.

"Yes, you do and apparently now my daughter thinks you're going to always cook for us because we have a...thing."

"What?" She giggled, trying to move.

"I love you."

"Hmm..."

"And I know you're not ready to say it yet but...just...I love you."

"Hmm...you too." She whispered.

"Okay...Breakfast." He smiled.

"Breakfast." Meredith whispered, walking with him.

Derek was glad this happened. As glad as he could be when Meredith's young daughter walked in on them close to having sex. He was glad that she finally knew and now they were actually something. Something that didn't really have a name. But something. And that was more than they were before.
