Hi and here we are, a bit of a shorter chapter than I wanted but I find the birth scene both in book and film very, very difficult to write or read or watch. So this is my best shot at it.

And with this we are officially at the end of Book 1 and Book 2 of Breaking Dawn! Everything after will now be Volturi.

I will acknowledge the 'imprint' thing between Jacob and Renesemee but please don't expect me to go into it too much. I just...re-reading it again it's just too weird for me.

Disclaimer-Nothing is mine.

Slightly graphic version of childbirth in this one as well.

Please Read and Review.

That being said here we are, I intend to do one maybe two more chapters and then I will do a multiple update around Christmas. I always do this with whatever story I have and if you have followed my work you with know that. So if we get to December and there are no updates whatsoever please don't panic.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

Chapter 13-Heat Of The Moment

Bella gives birth, Rosalie slips and then gets her happy ending (sort of) Jacob makes things more complicated and yet somehow it all works out-graphic birthing scenes for this one.

"A sibling may be the keeper of one's identity, the only persons with the keys to one's unfettered, more fundamental self" Marian Sandmaier

Bella's spine went.

Jacob gagged but they were in the medical room that Carlisle had set up and Rosalie suspected that it was sterile tiles for this reason. Bella was screaming begging for them to get the baby out but Edward wanted the morphine to spread. Rosalie grabbed the scalpel. If it was going to happen it was going to happen now and she didn't think that Edward had it in him to deliver this baby. If it came down to using teeth would he be able to do it?

Come to think of it would she?

"Carlisle says get it out he's on his way back" Alice screamed into the room. She had chosen to stay outside and Rosalie nodded. Jacob moved to take Bella's hand, to try and control the screaming least they all lose their concentration (not that, that was going to happen but it was hard…hard to listen to) and also because Rosalie suspected he knew what was about to happen and wanted something to do that didn't involve what was going to happen.

"Wait for the morphine"

God was he dense? Even Rosalie without all his mind tricks knew that waiting would kill the baby and kill Bella and all of this, all of this had been for nothing. She had burnt a lot of bridges doing this and she was going to be an Aunt if she had to goddamn do it herself.

"He's dying" she hissed.

"Let the morphine spread"

"EDWARD GET HIM OUT! GET HIM OUT HE'S DYING"

And then Bella's eyes rolled back in her head, her legs crumpled on table and Rosalie had, had enough waiting.

The baby was dying.

And it had always been about the baby.

Edward had always known it.

And deep down so had she.

She brought down the blade and then the scent of human blood was in the room more, sharper and she snapped.

She did not know what it was that made her snap. She didn't know. Human blood had held no interest for her. She'd never had it, never slipped, never even tried it and so it had been hard to imagine something that she had never tasted before and so she had never really missed it. You couldn't miss what you never had. She'd had the same cravings that everyone and anyone else in this family (with the exception of Carlisle) had, had and she had managed before.

And yet now…

Looking back she didn't know what it was that set her off.

All she knew was one minute she was holding the blade and the next Jacob had thrown her back threw the door catching her on the door and the force of it shattered the door frame. Rosalie Hale-McCarty-Cullen went down like a tone of bricks and had she been human she knew that her ribs would have gone. She shuddered standing back upwards and she felt Alice grab her by the throat.

She expected a fight, she was primed for it but Alice instead shook her like she would a puppy and for some reason it was enough to kick start her brain into working. She turned her eyes away from the room, away from Bella and the baby and the blood that coated them both and she let Alice lead her away. She thought she saw Jacob Black shoot her a look but he was back looking at Bella half a second later. Alice threw her into her room and shut the door and Rosalie breathed in the lavender and lilac scent that was Alice's pale blue carpet. She let Jasper's smell of sandalwood and leather seep into her nose and she turned her thoughts off away from the stench of blood that was seeping under the door.

Two seconds later she flipped onto her back and forced herself to stand again.

"You good?" Alice said as she stood by the door. Rosalie shuddered and swallowed down the venom that had creeped up into her mouth. She forced it back down and she shook with the force that racked her.

"I'm good" she said finally. "I don't…I don't know…what happened?"

"What happened was you've not fed since all of this began. You switched everything off, your emotions, your instincts and that's got a price. We watched Edward all last year do it. Your good. Your in the home stretch and this will be over one way or the other and we can feed again"

Rosalie nodded. Now that she was thinking about it the dry ache in her throat was worse than it had ever been before. It had become a full scorching fire and she sat on the bed her hands on her throat as it slammed into her again and again and again like the heartbeat that was thumping away in the next room racing towards an unnatural end.

And then between the two of them they heard it.

It was a small thin weedy cry and both of them snapped their heads towards the door as they listened in.

It was a baby's cry.

It was a baby's cry.

It was a baby's cry.

A baby. Above all else it was a baby. It was a little baby and he had lived.

Alice suddenly sagged as if she had been a dancing puppet with her strings cut. Rosalie reached blindly and their hands found each other.

"I can see her" Alice said smiling. Had she been able to do so she would have cried Rosalie knew and she also knew that it was not about the baby that had somehow been born. Alice had a one track mind with these kinds of things and despite the miracle that this family had pulled off through sheer force of will, it was Bella that she was thinking off.

"I can see her"

"You can?"

"Yes. When the baby was wrapped around her she blurred right out. Now she's blurred right back in and so have you, so's Emmett. You were all up in the sky—so to speak—when she was pregnant because you tied your fate so close to hers and Emmett was tied to you. Now you all coming back"

"All of us?"

"Well not the baby…the baby is like the wolves. I can't see anything I never was."

Rosalie nodded. She was nodding but she could barely hear the words and she staggered forwards a little waiting for the next cry. There was the sounds of teeth on skin, needles of venom and Jacob Black screaming at Bella to keep her heart beating long enough for the thing to work.

"Go" Alice said shaking her head. "I can't…if she's dead I can't…she's flickering again and I need to call Carlisle and let him…go…go take the baby off Jacob, this is your moment, your fought for it. You have earned it"

Once upon a time, Rosalie might have snapped at her. But she was suddenly achingly aware that she was inches away from the baby that she had helped to be born and so she pushed herself off the bed and she yanked open the door and was in the bloody room within seconds.

"Give the baby to me"

Jacob who was still pumping Bella's chest with enough force to crack a couple of ribs and who was looking more and more desperate with each passing second. The stench of blood was high in the room and she had to bite down on her stone lips to the point where she knew that they would have been bitten to shreds if she had been human. Edward was holding the baby.

Edward was holding the baby.

Edward was holding her baby.

Either Edward didn't hear that thought or Edward didn't care about her thoughts because he looked at her and he was back as the burning man again. Any kind of love or warmth that he had for her or for this baby was gone when it came to Bella and Bella's life.

"Give me the baby"

Edward blinked at her.

"Give me the baby Edward I'm good. Focus on Bella. I'll be downstairs"

Edward shoved the baby at her and Rosalie was downstairs before he had even fully turned back. If she could shake she'd shake. She didn't know what was going to happen. She didn't know if the wolves were going to attack, she didn't know if the Volturi were going to descend upon them or if Charlie Swan was going to turn up or even if she was going to see her husband again but the blood was in the cup and so she shifted the warm little bundle in her arms and looked down.

The baby was a girl.

Huh.

She pulled a little blanket off the couch put their so helpfully by Alice she assumed and she wrapped the little baby girl in the white blanket edged in pink and she looked down at the baby. Brown eyes framed by dark lashes, little pouty lips and dark eyebrows and curly hair on her head and when she looked at Rosalie, Rosalie swore she knew exactly who she was and what she was thinking.

This child was perfect.

This child was beyond perfect.

This child was a born again miracle.

She was utterly, utterly perfect and Rosalie found that she was enchanted by her. She rocked and fed the baby who was still watching her and she tugged her close to her body. She knew what she must look like, she knew that she was covered in blood, she knew that she was sat crossed legged on the couch in bloody leggings and a bloody top and she knew that her hair and her face was coated in blood as well. She knew she was clutching her baby and she knew that this was not her baby and yet while it was all going on upstairs right here and now she was the one rocking the baby, shushing her and feeding her and letting her feel the warmth or the coldness of vampire skin. She had done it. She had done it. She had done it. Come heaven or high water she had done it. She had managed to get this baby to be born, against all the odds she knew that Bella had done it and God help her as she sat and cooed at this perfect little angel in her arms she allowed the lines to be blurred.

This was her baby, this was Emmett's baby and it was a little cabin in the woods of Tennessee and she had ran off with him leaving Rochester and Royce behind. She and Emmett lived a simple life off the land and they had a few pennies in her savings jar and she had learnt how to skin chickens, make cheese and churn butter. She and Emmett had a small one room house made by Emmett's family and this was their baby, their first baby and she was rocking her to sleep by the fire waiting for her husband to come home and Emmett would come home and slide an arm around her and kiss her and their baby and everything would be alright. Because the world was simple and the world was golden and it was the 1930s and the biggest threat would have been World War II and not werewolves and vampire royalty.

She was aware of someone behind her and she knew by smell alone that it was Jacob. She shifted a little as baby girl Cullen shifted and a small hand with little fingers and little fingernails came out and touched her cheek.

She saw a flash of…something but it was hard to understand. It was hard to see what it was but she thought it was Bella, Edward, and then the warmth and the feel of water on skin and she didn't know what the baby was showing her but she knew that the baby was showing her something.

And then it became about Jacob. She didn't understand but as she turned to face Jacob who was watching with a…disturbingly strange expression on his face the door slammed open and in came Emmett his face wild and his eyes dark. He'd fed thank God before he'd come home and Rosalie leapt to her feet shifting the baby so that she could see what was going on. Already she was sure that the baby could understand more of what was going on than all of them combined.

The baby.

Bella's baby.

Bella and Edward's baby.

Renesmee.

Renesmee Cullen.

Emmett crossed the room in two strides and took her into his arms and the baby touched Rosalie again and Rosalie wanted to say (God forgive her, God forgive her, God forgive her) that this was her Daddy but she and baby both knew it wasn't true. This was Uncle Emmett.

"You did it" Emmett muttered into the bloody strands of her hair. "You did it"

But Rosalie couldn't speak.

And suddenly upstairs there was a change in the pace. Another race had been started. It was no longer a race to keep Bella's heart beating, it was a race for it to stop.

It was a race that every Cullen in the house knew, remembered, still thought about. The beginning and the end. The beginning of one life and the ending of the next.

A race, a beat, a changing heart.

And the race was on.

And there you are, I hope you enjoy this chapter and I will bring you the next one sooner rather than later.

Next Chapter-Edward fills in his family on what they missed. As Jacob steals Renesmee, Carlisle and Rosalie share a moment (Chapter takes place during Bella's transformation)
