WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN:

Tanya smirked, despite the force pulling on her arms. Honestly, there wasn't any need to get other people involved.

Considering Wiz's warning about those potions being illegal to make, it would have been exceedingly difficult to convince the guild that Wiz hadn't known about their illicit nature and had no hand in actually making the things.

Besides, who would actually want to have monsters be attracted to them for the rest of their lives?

Barring the obvious exception, of course.

With a shake of her head at the thought of Darkness, Tanya continued her march through the woods.

She'd had the idea to give the potions to animals instead of people, expediting the process of finding someone willing to become bait for monsters for the rest of their lives. Now, she was heading outside of Axel with Viktoriya at her side to test out the effectiveness of the potions. With any luck, they'd be back before sundown with a viable means of ending the stranglehold the Demon King had on the monsters around Axel…

With any luck.

As she was jerked to the side, Tanya growled again. "Next time, tell me to pick a different animal!" she said, struggling with the lead for two of the pigs.

Viktoriya was not faring much better with the other three. "No problem!" she panted back.

Tanya could only mentally sigh. With how expensive those potions had been – and oh were they expensive – she had been drained of most of her money and then some. Considering the illegality of their creation, there was no way she could-

SNAP!

"Shit!" she shouted. Still struggling with her remaining pig, she handed the rope off to Viktoriya and began sprinting, spinning the Type 97 up.

She swore behind her, but she didn't look back as she started to chase after the pig. "Next time, I'll shove that potion down the throat of a canary. Or a cat, maybe!" she growled to herself, pushing through branches and-

As she came into a clearing, she swore again as she drew her pistol. A group of goblins had surrounded the pig, which seemed to have some idea of the position it was in, considering it came running back to her.

She noted its limp and then leveled her pistol. "Now now, there's no-"

But then they charged – likely already under the effects of that potion. With a sigh, Tanya began to dispatch the goblins…

And then she had to shoot a Rookie Killer.

And then octopuses began to swing down from the trees around her, forcing her to look between the pig and the oncoming monsters and decide it was time to retreat.

Grabbing a hold of the pig, she floated into the air and began to weave between the trees, crashing through branches and vines as she meant, all the while trying to ignore the squealing of the pig held in her arms.

FWOOOM!

The wind flew through her hair in the wrong direction as an octopus threw itself at her, missing by inches. She hadn't dealt with them personally, but she'd heard horror stories of people getting the faces ripped off once they got attached with their suckers.

With another growl, she shifted the pig in her grasp, getting her gun pointed behind her and-

KABOOM!

The rest of her flight was much quieter. If nothing else, this proved that the potions did indeed work as Wiz had advertised.

She landed, finding Viktoriya also looking quite disheveled with the four pigs she'd been tasked with herding tied up to a tree. "Well, I'm glad that the potions work."

Viktoriya merely raised an eyebrow, gesturing towards the pig grasped in Tanya's arms. With a roll of her eyes, she dropped it and watched it limp towards its fellows.

"Let's get back to the guild. With this in our back pocket, we and Wiz will get plenty of-"

Her sentence was cut off by the squealing of a pig. She turned her gaze away from Viktoriya's face towards the pigs-

They were killing each other.

Frozen in shock, she watched as the pig she'd saved was attacked by the other four pigs. It died, but not before injuring another pig, which was turned on by the others until it devolved into a pink, fleshy brawl.

In the end, the last living pig died when, after Tanya spent a good amount of time cursing and wondering if pigs usually attacked each other like that or if it was just another facet of this world's insanity, a Giant Worm came up beneath them and snatched it from under her nose.

When they announced the next day that they would be marching against the Demon King's forces, they ignored those few questions about what the easy solution to the problem they'd promised to procure the day before.

WHY IT WAS NOT:

As she finished explaining her idea, Tanya felt her eyebrows furrow. Wiz… did not seem nearly as enthused as she had hoped.

"Of course," she said, trying to hedge her bets and hopefully assuage Wiz's anxieties, "if you don't think my idea has any merit-"

"Oh, no! No, it's not that!" she said quickly, her usually quiet voice pitching up. "It's just… do you know if it'll work on an animal?"

Tanya opened her mouth… and then closed it again. "I… do not know. Do you?" she asked.

Wiz shrugged helplessly. "Not really… no one's tested what the effect would be on an animal."

Tanya frowned. "Well, I suppose we could test one before we use all of them."

"Ah… wouldn't it be a pretty big waste if the potion doesn't work? I'm not sure if having multiple people who have drunk the potion together increases its effect, but if it does, then having more people would be pretty important, right?"

Tanya sighed. She… supposed Wiz was right.

More than that, she didn't have anywhere near enough money to buy all of them, which would mean a loan…

She blinked… and then she nodded. "Alright, Wiz. Since I'm not going to be the one buying the potions, however, should we just ask the guild?"

She blinked owlishly. "The guild?"

Tanya nodded again, more assured this time. "Yes, the guild. If we do have people drink the potion, it'll be adventurers doing the drinking. They'd likely want to be involved." What went unsaid was that they would be able to pay Wiz for her potions.

After a moment of thought, Wiz shrugged and agreed, and the three of them were soon on their way to the guild.

A/N 1: When I first began posting the main story and I had some minor plot holes pointed out to me, I had an idea to explain the loose ends in Omakes of their own. Finally got around to it with this story, which was inspired by Prometheus-42 on this website pointing out that the guild could have fed the potions to animals instead of people.
