Lexie was back in the basement on the bed. Emmett was looking at her. Stuart was in the far corner of the room.
"You think he actually likes you." Emmett said. "He likes fucking you, that's all." "You know he thinks of the other agent he was fucking when he's with you." "You'll never be happy." "I won't let you." "Once he leaves you it'll just be us again." "You may have escaped me physically, but mentally, I'll be with you until the day you die."
Lexie's eyes popped open. She looked at Stuart who was asleep. She'd spent the night at his place. She'd been having variations of that dream lately. She got out of bed, went into the bathroom and began her breathing and counting. About forty-five seconds later Stuart appeared in the doorway in just his boxers.
"Are you ok?" He asked. She nodded her head yes.
"Go back to bed honey."
"Remember deep breaths in and out."
"I'm doing it."
Lexie came back to bed five minutes later. He kissed her forehead.
"Alright?" He asked.
"Yeah." "I'm glad Dr. Price taught me those techniques." "They really help to calm me down." "I really have to stop letting you talk me into spending the night here."
"No you don't."
"I wake you up almost every time I stay here."
"I've told you I don't mind."
"I do." "Your sleep shouldn't have to suffer because I'm fucked up in the head."
"You're not fucked up in the head." "You mean more to me then sleeping through the night." He kissed her.
The next morning Lexie woke up to her alarm ringing. She shut it off.
"No." Stuart said. "Come here." He pulled her on top of him. "Morning."
"Morning." They kissed.
"Where you going?"
"The gym."
"I've been thinking Lexie, it's been a month." "I want to tell people about us."
"I don't know."
"I just feel like we're lying to people."
"We're not lying." "We're just not telling the truth." "If Isobel calls me into her office and asks me specifically." "Agent Dalton, are you screwing agent Scola, I'd say yes."
He laughed. "Screwing agent Scola." "That's romantic Lex."
"Don't worry, I wouldn't leave out the part that you're incredible in bed."
"Anything else?"
"How sweet and sexy you are."
"What would you tell her if she asked you if I'm your boyfriend?"
"Yes he is."
"Can we at least tell Kristen?" "She's coming into town this week right?"
"Yeah." "We can tell her."
"I want to take you guys out to dinner."
"Alright." "She won't be so surprised I'm dating you but just that I'm dating in general." "I'll get to tell her that you're the best lover I've ever had."
"Really?" He asked smiling.
"Yeah, most of the time." She smiled. "I'm kidding, you are."
"I love it when you smile." "Come here." He rolled them over, they changed places. "Let's see if I can get rid of most of the time." They kissed. They both got a text at the same time. "Do all the criminals plan their crimes around when we try to have sex in the morning?" He said jokingly. He checked his phone. "Yep, we've gotta go."
"Of course we do."
After work the next day Lexie was in a session with Dr. Price.
"How are things going with Stuart?" The doctor asked.
"Great." She said apprehensively.
"But?"
"I'm really scared."
"Of what?"
"Losing him, somehow." "He wants to tell people about us."
"You don't?"
"If we tell people it's real, then something could happen to him." "We're telling Kristen but I know she won't tell anyone."
"Are you still having that reoccurring dream, the newest one?"
"Yes." "He always tells me he won't let me be happy."
"He is dead." "He represents your fear of being happy." "You think you can really have something with Stuart and that scares you." "So you keep having the dream."
Two nights later Kristen was waiting for Lexie and Stuart at a restaurant. She was in town as a keynote speaker for a law convention. She didn't know who Lexie's boyfriend was. All she knew was she would be meeting him tonight.
"Hi." Lexie said.
Kristen looked up and saw them. "I knew it." Lexie and Stuart sat down. "How long?"
"A month." Stuart said.
Kristen looked at Lexie. "And you didn't tell me?"
"We just decided we're together." Lexie said.
"Well, it's great."
Lexie was in the bathroom. Kristen and Stuart were at the table alone.
"I know you're protective of Lexie." Stuart said. "I want you to know I would never hurt her."
"I know you wouldn't."
"I just wish she could see herself the way I see her." "She's an amazing person."
"You love her don't you?"
Before he could answer Lexie came back to the table.
"What are you guys talking about?" Lexie asked.
"Nothing, just talking." Stuart said.
