Chapter
Trip Down Memory Lane Part 2
Currently at the Owl House we see Willow on the couching sleeping right next to Evan. However, the witch started to stir awake slowly becoming aware.
"Huh?" She glanced around in confusion glancing at her surroundings noticing she was in the Owl House's living room. "What?" She tried to get up but almost stumbled and fell if she didn't catch the coffee table nearby.
From nearby Eda came in rushing over to the young witch.
"Take it easy for a second." Eda helped her sit back down. "Having your memory burned away and just restored takes a huge mental toll on you." Making a spell circle a small cup floated into her hand." Here."
"Thanks." Willow takes the offering and drinks it before retching. "Blegh! What is this!?"
"That's a just a little supplement to help you a bit. Might taste like crap, but it gets the job done. Finish it." Willow groaned as she downed the rest of the contents retching once again from the taste. "Yep, you're fine. Your memory is completely restored."
Gus groaned as he slammed door walking back inside.
"Hey Dweebus where were you?
"You don't want to know..." He had only a little while ago finished talking to Hooty and that thing went down south really quickly. "I really don't want to talk about it." Gus replied as he noticed that Willow was up smiling a bit relieved to know his friend was ok but noticed Evan was still asleep. "Are they not finished yet?"
"Evidently not." Eda replied to back glancing over to her boy gently petting him. "If I had to take a guess, they'd probably done with Willow and moving onto Evie right now."
Willow cast a look down in shame feeling bad that he got caught up in her troubles with Amity. "I'm sorry for dragging Evan into this..."
"No, it's alright. It ain't your fault." The Owl Lady replied as she stopped petting her boy and leaned down to peck the side of his head. She sighed showing her concern for her apprentice, nephew and even a little bit for the young blight girl that put Evan like this.
Gus then thought of something, and since his little project didn't work out so well. He figured this would make up for it. Infact he's been rather itching to seize this opportunity for a long time now. "Hey, Eda can I ask a question?" Gus asked
"As long as it ain't something stupid or simple, but shoot"
This was it, the moment of truth, steeling what he had, Gus went for it. "Eda, how come you never enrolled Evan into Hexside in the first place? Aside from your issues with it. "
The owl lady grew a bit hesitant at this. "Eh...It's not really easy to explain."
Willow started to get a little curious too. "Well, we know that you, Evans dad, and Lilith onetime used to go there and then you left. What happened?"
"You really want to know?" She questioned raising an eyebrow.
"Please, anything is better than talking to Hooty..." Gus said in a begging tone.
"Alright, but first I'm gonna need some Apple Blood."
Meanwhile back with Luz, Amity and Wilhelm once again they were in a completely black empty space.
"I think we're inside Evans mind now." Luz noted.
"Just give it a moment..." Wilhelm said and right on que just like in Willow's mind a blinding flash of light was seen completly changing the black empty space around them. When the light died down the scenery had changed drastically. No longer were they inside a forest, but instead they were in a city. It was very much akin to that of an earlier Victorian era, with a very dark gothic vibe.
"Whoa, Evan's is really different then Willow's." Luz commented as they walked through the streets glancing around them. "Her's was a forest and his is a city...a really creepy...gothic city..."
"Evidently so... " Amity commented feeling the same way Luz did while Wilhelm hummed a bit. Seeing this she raised an eyebrow in confusion. " How are you so calm right now? "
"To be quite honest, given his personality I am surprised but at the same time, not so much." The red head replied. "But I must admit, the arcature here is interesting."
Suddenly a loud toll was heard spooking the trio making them look around before they noticed there was a clock tower in the distance.
"It has a clock tower too? Ok, that's actually pretty cool." Luz admitted earning a look from both witch and warlock. "Sorry, but this sort of stuff is really popular back in my world."
"Perhaps we should continue?" Wilhelm spoke up. "We've yet to find out how we can restore Evan's memories."
"Wilhelm's right." Amity agreed with what he said. "All of Willow's memories were in portraits on trees. So, what can we do here?"
"We look through every building there is."
"Yeah, but which ones? There's so many..." Luz questioned glancing around at the said buildings. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed something glowing in the distance. "Huh?" She begins to walk over to see what it was.
"What's the matter?" Amity noticed her confused expression seeing her walk off. "Luz?"
"Um...guys, look at this..."
Wilhelm and Amity exchanged a look of confusion and walked up next to Luz. There before them lied five doors, each one of them had a pad lock while on the middle of them had four very large ones and it was covered in chains.
"This is...strange." Wilhelm was confused.
"Yeah, I don't get it, why are there doors?" Amity felt the same way. "Willow didn't have any of her memories like this."
"Maybe...these are Evan's memories." Luz theorized eyeing on the large door covered in chains. "..But why is this one here more secured than the others?" Luz too was confused as she approached the door touching the chains feeling the cold metal. "What's even behind this?"
"I don't know." Amity commented.
"Its like that for a reason..." A voice spoke up making them turn to see a figure wearing a charred white hooded cloak sitting at the edge of a fountain breathing heavily sounding very tired loud enough for them to hear.
The trio walked over to the stranger and much to their surprise they saw that it was Evan or rather the one that they were meant to find. Luz instantly knew who he was. "You're the inner Evan."
"I am." He glanced over to Amity scowling at her. "And you're the one who caused the disarray."
"Look, I'm sorry, but I'm here to fix my mistake. We just finished restoring Willow's memories and now here to restore Evans." She then paused just now realizing something.
"Wait a minute, in Willows mind the Inner Willow became a monster. How are you affected?"
Inner Evan groaned as proceeded over to a bench but tripped in the processes losing his footing.
"Are you ok?" Luz quickly rushed over to help him up.
"I am just...tired." Inner Evan answered before pitting his arm over her shoulder letting her help him walk. "Now, to answer your question, the difference between Willow and Evan is that he has no special memories of unlike she did. It has taken everything in my entire being to keep what remains of Evans intact." They helped him sit down at a nearby bench and huddle around listening to what he had to say. "But unfortunately, I am losing strength. Just as you have with Willow, please restore Evans memories as well."
Luz gripped the inner Evan's hand giving him a nod. "Don't worry, we will. I promise."
"If I may ask. Why are some of these doors locked?" Wilhelm questioned. "You said there like that for a reason. So why? Are they special?"
"Yes, they are. Behind each door is a different memory, some of which he'd rather forget, and others are memories that are important to him."
"But how come Willow didn't have these in her mind? " Luz threw in her question.
"The mind reflects on the individual and their emotional states." He began to explain. "Willow is a happy free and loving flower. Evan on the other hand as you know has lived in a much more different life. He always must remain alert, never wanting to lower his guard down and do what he believes he must do in order to survive."
"I think I get it..." Wilhelm said speaking up going into thought. "There are some people who aren't very open and keep most to themselves keeping whatever they have inside locked up keeping it to themselves."
Amity glanced over to him. "How do you know?
"It's only a theory, there's hardly any information regarding the mind spell were currently using since well, it's illegal and forbidden for a reason."
"That's...a good point."
Wilhelm then says, "Anyway, we need to find the memories that were lost and restore them again"
"Just go through each door you find. open them and restore the damage." The Inner Evan instructed. "With each memory you restore, I'll regain back my strength."
"Ok, got it." Luz replied with a nod about to walk off.
"Wait." Wilhelm stops Luz grabbing her by the hoodie glancing over to the five doors that also included the locked one. "What about these doors? What is so special about them?"
"In order to unlock them, you must acquire the keys necessary to do so."
"How do we find them?"
"They will appear at random, when you find one, use it unlock the doors and restore the memories that were damaged."
"What about that one?" Luz pointed to the scarier looking one in the distance.
The inner Evan frowned at that door. "To acquire the key for that one. You'll have to restore the special memories first all of them. Remember as I've said, the more memories you restore, the more my strength will return."
"Alright. Wait, what about you?" Inner Evan smiled showing he was appreciating Luz's concern.
"Don't worry, I just need to rest...Zzzzzzzz." He said before dozing off.
"Let him rest." Wilhelm said. "Right now, we need to restore Evans memories and find the keys to these doors"
"Alright then, Let's get to work." Luz said as she got up rushing over to the nearest door she could find with Wilhelm and Amity right behind her till they found one. "Ok, Door number 1. " Luz was about to reach for the handle until Amity stopped her.
"Hold on..." She turned over to the red head. "Wilhelm some of these memories, do you think that you can remember what some of them might be?"
"That..." The red head goes into thought." That entirely depends. "I might know a few, but there's no guarantee I'll have all the answers."
Luz put a hand on Wilhelms shoulder. "That's ok, anything you can possibly think can help us." She then reached the knob taking a breath and exhaled out. "Here we go."
When they opened the door, it was revealed to in the same living room they left only mere moments ago. However, everything was burnt bearing charred marks just like Willow's memories.
"We're back at the Owl House?" Luz was confused by this. "But everything seems different"
Wilhelm noted and glanced over to the couch of the living room. "Look, Aunt Eda's wanted poster isn't there. This is defiantly most likely cousin Evan's memory, one when he was younger perhaps."
"So what exactly are we looking for in young Evans memories here?" Amity inquired.
"I'm not so certain myself, but, standing around won't get us anywhere. Restoring Willow's memories was easy because Amity knew her longer than we did. I on the other hand don't." Wilhelm noted as he started glancing around. "We better start."
The witch and human began to look around trying to spot anything of interest and the one that spotted something was Amity. "Hey, I found something."
She picked up what appeared a little stuffed wolf. "Look here."
"Ah, I remember that." Wilhelm said as he walked over to her with Luz. "That used to be Evans."
"Used to be?" Luz questioned.
"He had it for a number of years but then decided to give to a little kid that needed it."
Luz gushed a bit hearing that. "Aw, that was sweet of him."
"But where are we supposed to put this at?" Amity questioned finding that little knowledge surprising giving how she's usually used to see his other rude side in the past.
Wilhelm hummed in though taking the toy out of Amity's hand and looked to the couch. "I wonder..." He proceeds to place it on there. Then a light flashed blinding the group.
When the light died down, we see the trio outside with the door opened and they began the memory replay through the open door. They watched it replay hearing humming, just as a much younger Evan who was around the age of six wearing a small set of pajama's comes into view looking for something.
"Where is it? Wheeeere?" He spotted the wolf on the couch. "Aha! Here it is." Out of the corner of his eyes he saw something rush by him. "Huh? "
From outside Luz was getting excited as her eyes widened whispering watching the scene unfold before her. "Ay, que lindo..."
He noticed something dash out from the corner grabbing his attention. Being the young and curious youngling he was, Evan walked over and found a smaller and much younger version of King?
Curious Evan sits down and tilts his head to the right and the little canine mimicked his movements
"Uh...Hi?... "
"H-Hi.." The little canine returned back astonishing the little warlock as his one good eye gained a star showing his amazement.
"Whoa..." Right on que a familiar voice was heard.
"Evan? Have you seen..." A much younger Eda enters into the living room surprised to her son hugging King. "Evie?"
Upon seeing her Evan gains an excited look and picks King up having an excited look, much like a little kid who just opened presents on Christmas morning.
"Momma? Can we keep him?! Please?! Please?! Please?! Please?! Pleeeeeeease?"
Seeing this Eda sighed a bit facepalming herself. " I better let Phil know ahead of time... "
The door closed meaning the memory had ended.
Luz squealed at the memory that'd just played. "Dios Mio that is so adorable!"
"Yeah, That was." Amity admitted.
"The memory was obviously must've been when Evan first met King." Wilhelm noted.
Then suddenly a clang was heard on the ground making them look down to see they that there was a small metal key.
"Huh? A key?"
Wilhelm picked it up. "Remember what the Inner Evan said? That to restore those special memories we'd have to unlock them. This also included that last one. We'd have restore them to gain one of the keys for it."
"So that's one down, three to go." Luz commented. "And do we want to use it now?"
Amity glanced over to Wilhelm to get his opinion. "What do you think?"
"I don't see why not." The red head answered as they rushed over back to the locked doors. "Alright, I say the first door. Just keep it simple and we don't have to decide."
"That'll work." Amity said as he proceeded to insert the key into the keyhole turning it making the lock clink.
"Here goes." He opened the door and everyone was brought into the memory. This time they found themselves in what appeared to be an attic?
"Were in attic now?" Amity questioned looking around. "What's special here?"
"This the attic in the Owl House." Luz pipped in recognizing it since a few times in the past since first staying she help Evan chase out any vermin or rodents that weren't welcome there.
"I think it's pretty clear that a lot of his memories involve his home." Wilhelm deduced. "Because he has lived here his whole life. Nothing we can do about it, but just try to find what can restore it." He said before they started looking around.
"Sheesh, this place is full of stuff." The witch commented before screaming spotting something. Naturally Luz and Wilhelm rushed over to her, but they started laughing. The reason because was, there a big stuffed grizzly bear that looked like it had seen better days.
"Haha, what's wrong scared of a little teddy bear?" Wilhem questioned while Amity blushed in embarrassment glaring daggers at the warlock who wasn't even fazed a bit. "Oh, come on Amity, lighten up. At least it wasn't alive." He pointed out as he and Luz helped her up.
"Can we just find what we're looking for already?"
They started their search.
"Anyone find anything yet?" Luz called out.
"Nope." Wilhelm responded. "How about you Amity?"
"I'm not having much luck either." She replied making sure to look carefully and so she wouldn't get so spooked again like earlier.
Suddenly they heard giggling. They all then saw younger Evan and King running by them playing.
"Why are they here?" Amity was confused.
"Remember in Willows Mind-scape there was more than one Inner. There just another part of this place." Wilhelm explained before suddenly the two came up to them holding up a walk man and a cassette tape?
"I think they just found what we're looking for." Luz said as she took the two objects from them. When the human girl did, they both ran off.
"So, are these the things that were looking for and if so, how do we get them to work?"
Amity asked since because she wasn't so used to items from the human world. Luckily for them Luz knew how to use it. "Just do this." She puts the cassette tape into the Walkman.
The light consumes them, and they were outside. The memory started to play as someone entered the attic along with little Evan.
It was a much older warlock, one with large amounts of spikes long black hair that reached down to his back. He had his facial hair trimmed into a goatee. His clothing consisted that of a open black shirt with white zigzagged lines exposing his toned chest. Lastly his wardrobe was topped off with dark brown pants and boots to match. His most noteworthy trait was that he looked very much like Evan only much older and didn't have a patch covering his left eye.
Luz gasped in surprise watching the memory. " Is that?"
Wilhelm nodded confirming what they were seeing. "You guess, right. That's Evan's father."
"Huh...So that's the Black Wolf..." Amity commented. She heard stories about this infamous warlock but never thought that she'd see him in the flesh or something since she was seeing him now. "Not what I expected but I can defiantly see the resemblance."
"That's for sure." Luz agreed as they continued watching the memory. They watched as little Evan watched Phil take out the cassette tape.
"Hey Evan check this out."
"What papa?"
"This right here is what'll help me give you some valuable wisdom in the course of your life."
"Can I listen."
"Oh, your gonna do more than listen. You'll learn first-hand through experience." He places the Walkman down. "Pay close attention son." Phil plays the Walkman and music begins to play as it did the older warlock started to dance starting out small.
Little Evan was confused titling his head to the right. "What are you doing?"
"I'm dancing what else does it look like?" Phil was starting to get into the grove of things.
"Why?"
"Cause it's fun. Plus, dancing is a good thing to know." He said before spinning around on one foot striking a pose. "How about you give it a try."
"How?"
"Just do what feels right to you."
"I still don't get it." Evan then felt something he noticed his right foot was tapping.
"Aha, there we go, now we're getting somewhere."
"Huh, so this how Evan discovered music from back home." Luz noted as she continued watching the memory play.
"Papa what do I do now?"
"Just let loose..." Phil proceeds to do the moonwalk. "C'mon look at I'm breaking it down."
Taking his father's advice, the little warlock began to dance as well.
"Yes, that's it. You got it. Keep it up."
They then heard laughing and looked over to see it was Eda whose hair was much shorter and still had some of its original orange color with two faint streaks of grey seen. "Hey what's going on in here?"
Phil Spun over to her holding out his hand bearing a smug look. "You gonna question it or join us? "
The owl lady in return chuckled taking his hand accepting the offer. "Oh, you don't even need to ask twice. " Eda replies as she joined in the fun followed by younger King running inside to join in the fun.
But then Hooty came bursting out of the floor. "Hoot! I'm here!"
"We don't care!" Parents and child replied back as the whole family danced away as the door closed meaning the memory was done and restored.
"Looks like the memory's fixed."
Amity noted and then a clang was heard bellow them they all saw it was another key only this one was black. Indicating that this was meant for the special locked door that was in the middle of them.
"We already know what this is for." Wilhelm commented as he picked it up. "what's say we don't bother with the door that this key goes too until we collect them all? Better yet come back here when we have the other three keys to these doors?"
"That probably be for the best. That way we can get more work done on restoring Evans memories." Luz said as she glanced over the chained door.
Amity noticed her worried expression. "You alright?"
Luz quickly turned to face them panicking a bit. "Huh, yeah I'm fine it's just I'm worried for Evan as we all are."
"Clearly you are, but your also concerned about what could possibly be behind that door." Wilhelm noted.
"Yeah, I know and I'm afraid of what might happen if we do open it"
"But your also worried what you might learn what Evan is trying to hide as well." Wilhelm said as Luz gained a hesitant look.
"Yes...I am...But it's not just that...I don't know why but whatever I might see in there, I'm honestly afraid that it'll only damage what we have." Luz sighed shaking her head a bit. "I broke Evans trust one time before and I don't want to do it again."
"But you won't face it alone. Trust me, he'll try to understand...it takes time for things to heal." Wilhelm pointed out. "Sometimes even old wounds and just recent additions can't be ignored forever."
"Wow, Wilhelm that was pretty deep." Amity commented. "You've been a roll today. What's the deal?"
Wilhelm shrugged his shoulders. "I read a lot a books. Some of them have some good words in them."
Luz smiled hearing what Wilhelm said. "Yeah, I guess you're right. But no matter what happens, I know that whatever we face behind that door well face it together." As they walked off to being their mission to restore Evan's memories unknown to them was that the chained-up door a faint distinct growling noise was heard.
We now see the living room of the Owl House come into view where Eda we pouring her apple-blood getting ready to tell Willow and Gus her tale.
"Alright you two, so you want to hear why the Owl Lady left Hexside in the first place Huh?" Eda questioned as she sat down.
"Right before we get to there, let's start at the beginning." Eda began by pouring herself some apple-blood into a cup. "You know you kids got it a better at school. Back then compared to what it was today, Hexside was a lot worse. In my day we had to deal with Faust."
"I've heard about him." Gus chimed in. "He really was ruthless to the student populace. You went to school when he was there?"
"Oh yeah, I've been in the ugly bastard's office plenty of times. Eventually he did retire, and Bump took over the place. Even though he's a buzzkill he was a lot better than Fausty."
"So what exactly happened?" Willow questioned.
Eda sighed a bit. "Let's just say things went from the usual everyday shenanigans and fooling around to more stuff I had to deal with it."
The owl lady her apple blood downing the whole cup in go. "Oh, I'll tell you what happened. My curse happened."
Eda then began to remember the first moment she transformed. It all started out when she made her choice not face off against Lilith because after much thinking the young witch decided to give up on the lifelong dream of joining the Emperors Coven and all Covens in general wanting to live her life how she wanted to. But now, now she was a monster hiding in the woods.
This was officially the first time Eda had transformed into the Owl Beast. Naturally the young witch was scarred and confused wondering how this could've happened. The transformed witch glanced down a nearby pond gazing at her reflection and screamed upon seeing it. However, because of the state she was in the sound she made wasn't her voice it was what she had become.
The young witch's fear was at the breaking point she didn't know what to do, all she could do was cry.
"EDA!" A familiar voice caught her attention.
"Eda!"
"E! Where are you at?!" She recognized the other two voices. They were looking for her? Even in the state she was in?
"Eda?" Eda gasped turning to the voice and quickly she
panicked and made a break for it. "Eda wait! Stop!"
"Eda!" This person did their best to catch up to her and finally managed to do so putting both arms around her body. "Eda...Eda stop, stop, stop."
The one who was holding her was Phil. "Its ok, I'm here." He let loose his grip while Eda turned to face her boyfriend who put a hand on her cheek.
"Eda..." Upon touch the owl beast broke down in tears and all she wanted was to be held and Phil did just that.
"That day everything changed."
We now shift to see Eda making her way through the hallway with head hanging down trying to ignore the looks and whispers.
"Hey look. There's owl girl right there."
"Should we even be here right now? What if she changes?"
"Nu-heck with this I'm out of here."
We then see Eda in the back row of class. Followed by a teacher nervously, slowly and carefully passing the young witch he assignment before rushing back to the desk. She sighed at this as to be expected since her curse first showed up.
"My whole entire social life at school, was a living hell for me. I wasn't only one afraid and worried, but everyone else was too. Right at the point where they just shoved me off for their safety. Even though I knew this, it really hurt, because this a very vulnerable period in my life. Nobody would show any signs of concern. Well, all except for a handful."
By now it was lunch time and Eda was seen at the edge of the school ground so she wouldn't be bothered. This was the only free moment she had to get away from all crap.
"What do we have here?" Eda turned and frowned to see it was a girl who greatly resembled that of Amity. Only difference was that her hair was tied into a bun, her eyes were blue, and she was wearing the color of the Oracle track. Immediately Eda's sense of peace and quiet was disturbed by this witch. She knew exactly who she was.
"Leave me alone Odalia."
"Aw did I hit a nerve or a feather in you?"
Eda growled in annoyance as she tried to get up but as she did two of the bully's goons stuck out their legs making her trip and fall face first into her lunch.
"Oh look, the beast doesn't even have common sense." She mocked as the rest of her gang including the ones who tripped Edalyn all came out laughing while Eda grunted in annoyance standing up wiping herself off.
"Is there a problem here?" Another voice questioner which belonged to Phil and standing next to him was a much younger Saul who didn't even grow in his tusks. He was wearing the healing covens' colors. Standing next to him also was a young girl with purple hair with black streaks tied up into a ponytail with red ribbons. She was wearing the beast track color. There was also a kid wearing glasses with light blue hair, he was wearing the track color of the bard coven.
Odalia scoffed shaking her head. "Honestly you must think you stand out so much Soulbane, hanging out with a bunch of rejects with your sister looking like she'd just finished licking a Dragons bottom."
"Shut your mouth Blight!" Phil exclaimed before the purple haired girl stepped forward fuming with anger.
"What'd you just say you minty!?" Hilda snarled.
"You heard me, neither of you shouldn't be allowed to learn magic, excluding your brother you all aren't even worth the time when it comes to being taught."
"Then how about we show what we learned?" Hilda challenged. "Right here! Right now!"
Odalia hmphed back in response. "We duel as proper witch and warlocks Hilda. You're not even worth to lick the dirt from the bottom of my shoes."
"Watch it fake tits." Hilda retorted and this evidently got Odalia going as an insult off began while the other members of their group watched this transpire.
"Shut up, hussy."
"Skank!"
"Toe jam licker!"
"Thunder thighs!"
"Ass sniffer!"
"Puss licker!"
"Shit breath!" Saul made a raspberry noise getting the others to laugh at his add in.
"Oh really? What sort of perfume are you wearing at this moment? Because I was sure you had to marinate it."
"Oho, here's a fact for you. Roses are red, Violets are blue, I feel bad for the guys that end up with you."
"I seem to also recall your legs being hairier than the fur of lycan."
"Bitch please! Your legs spread faster than any known disease." Hilda retorted.
"Maybe you should eat make-up so you can be pretty on the inside, because the outside is hideous." Odalia remarked.
"Yeah? You ever get tired of putting makeup on two faces every morning?"
"At least when I wear makeup, it doesn't look like a box of crayons puked on me."
"Says who? The mirrors in your house? Because I'm pretty sure they crack when your reflection is seen."
"You really enjoy bathing the most vile of dragon waist and you love it since you always hang out with those creatures."
"You know something Odalia, I think I just came up with a theory on why you are literally such a bitch. Your popular only because your rich. Your parents make those so-called 'generous donations' just so that the teachers give you good grades. As far as I'm concerned you have your whole school life rigged from the start."
Odalia scowled at that remark. "At least my family has helped contribute numerous things for the good the Boiling Isles. Your family on the other hand is hardly even remembered. You're just part a former bloodline fallen from grace."
"Oh no, far from it." Phil stepped forward. "Your father is such an example. Yeah, your dear old man, a well-known shady murdering businessman who buys out the local business to make an extra snail and keeps it all to himself disregarding everyone else. You ain't nothing but a parasite just like him, wanting to bleed anyone you latch onto dry till they got nothing left."
Odalia sneered at what Phil had just said before huffing. "We'll settle things at another time. I do hope that you end up in the news right when the very witch before you kill you." She said before chuckling along with her group walking off.
"Fucking peppermint patty." Hilda sneered underneath her breath before turning to Eda. "You alright E?"
"Yeah, I'm alright." She replied finally dusting herself off. "Guys come on you didn't have to but in. I had it perfectly under control."
"Uh-huh, yeah." Saul wasn't buying it. "And we got stupid plastered on our foreheads."
"Admittedly sometimes we do." Hilda commented getting a couple of chuckles because they have done some pretty stupid stuff before. "But no, ain't the time for that. We came to check up on you. I noticed how some of the teachers have been even the rest of the school.
"Don't worry I'm alright."
"No, you're not alright." Phil instantly knew she was lying, and she was on the verge of breaking down into tears.
"I'm sorry guys...I just..."
"I know, it's ok. Eda you don't have hide it from us. We'll figure this out."
"How? Tell me Phil, how is this gonna work out?" She asked getting up to his face. "Things have gotten from worse to a freakin disaster. Everyone at the school acts like I'm gonna turn into some monster and home...home is just as bad...The healing coven isn't able to do damn anything about this curse."
"Eda...I might not know what you're going through emotionally, but I'm here for you." Phil put his hands on her cheeks. "I'm not going to leave you. Ok? It's not just me, we are all here for you."
"Phils right." Hilda chimed in. "There has to be something we can do. Hell, Saul's been busting like crazy trying to find alternatives that can help you."
"It's true." The orc confirmed. "While were trying to find a cure, there's alternate methods to helping you with this thing. I'm telling ya, this curse came from something and there's gotta be a way to get rid of it. If there's a will then there's a way."
"Exactly. Eda, you're not in this alone. Alright?" He leans in and pecks her on the lips before hugging her as she sobbed a bit returning the embrace. "I Love you troublemaker."
"I love you too."
Back in Evans inner mind the trio had really started to get into the groove of things.
First up we see the trio in the living room of the owl house stacking up boxes and pillows. When they were done the memory was restored and we see little Evan puffing our his chest proudly holding a mud ball in his hand.
"Haha! Victory be mine King! " The little Evan told the younger canine who glared back. "I shall give you one chance to surrender!"
"Never!" King replied before they started throwing mudballs at each other just as Eda and Phil entered groaning upon seeing the mess.
The trio is now seen in a grocery store
When the memory was restored, we see Eda in a grocery store looking over some items such as apple blood before a scream was heard turning around to see a monkey demon running away crying out in pain. The reason why was because Evan was biting on its tail. Instead of being a responsible parent Eda merely shrugged her shoulders and continued shopping know her boy would be fine since the ape had it coming for trying to flirt with her before snapping out of it and ran off to catch up to them.
Next up we see the trio help stand up a diving platform into place. Once it was up and stable, the memory showed a younger Evan in his pree teens getting ready to jump off but instantly failed to get a good dive down. Instead, he was falling straight down with his arms flailing around in the air.
"This was a stupid idea!" Evan screamed out as he flailed down bellyflopping onto the water as the nearby onlookers all winched from the way he landed. The human girl, witch and warlock also winced from the sight and the painful screams.
"Oof, wow...that...that was hard to watch." Amity commented feeling a bit of sympathy for the one-eyed warlock through that one memory.
"Yeah. Just one word to describe that. Ouch." Luz added and then all of the sudden they heard a metal clang at their feet. Looking down they found another key. Instantly and with excitement Luz picked it up.
"Alright, this the last key. Now we can unlock the rest of those 'special memories."
"That's good and all, but don't forget there's that chained door too." Amity bitterly reminded which instantly decreased Luz's happy mood.
"I know...But we have to."
"That's right. We started this whole thing to help restore the damage that was caused." Wilhelm exclaimed. "We've come to far now to call it quits. Those memories are the only ones that remain. Let's be done with this."
He takes off to where the fountain was and where the Inner Evan was still sleeping. Compared to when they first arrived, he looked much more refreshed. They stop at the second door.
"Ok. Major door, number 2." Luz takes the key and inserts it into the keyhole twisting it to unlock what was in front of them and they entered inside.
When they went through the found themselves in a jail cell?
"Huh? What the?" Luz was baffled by what she was seeing including Amity.
"What is this?"
"I think I know..." Wilhelm spoke up as he glanced around carefully. "Call it a hunch, but I think this just might be the Conformatorium."
"The Conformatorium?" Luz was shocked to hear this as she recalled this place on her first day on the Boiling Isles. "Why here again?"
"Again?" Amity raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Eh...long story. Wilhelm, you know what I'm talking about right?"
"Oh I do...I do...I'm just baffled as you are Luz. I don't ever recall hearing Evan getting captured." The red-haired warlock was just as baffled as she was and tried to figure it out. "If he was, then everyone would've known about it."
"What are we even supposed to find here?" Amity questioned as she looked around. "What could be wrong here?"
"Maybe this?" Luz pointed out to an open door. "I mean, I'm just as lost as you two."
"Possibly..." Wilhelm walks over to it. "This is the door to this cell. It wouldn't be open like this; someone would be able to just walk out. This a cell to keep people in. Luz, I think you might be onto something." He grips the door handle looking to his companions. "Ready to find out?"
They both nodded giving the red head his answer as he closed the door.
When the flash of light was done, they heard crying and the reason was because they saw little Evan up against the door crying and sobbing pressing his arms against the door. But because of his small status and his age, he wasn't strong enough nor did he have the right magic to help himself break out. He was terrified and confused.
"Mama!*Sobbings* Papa! Where are you? Please come back..." Suddenly a loud bang was heard against the door coming from outside scarring little Evan off scurrying back into a corner.
"Keep down in there!" A voice said from outside as he fearfully curled himself up continuing to cry.
"Hey come don't you really think that's a bit much?" Another voice questioned. "I mean, he's a just a kid."
"Are you kidding me? After what happened yesterday? We can't take any chances. Besides Emperor Belos wants him delivered by tomorrow morning."
"Yeah, but is this kid really what caused it?"
"Oh yeah, trust me, if that kid is anything like his parents this'll do everyone a favor."
Suddenly a loud explosion was heard shaking the whole entire structure. "The hell!?" Outside little Evan heard the sounds of fighting coming from outside followed by some groans.
Fearfully the little warlock peaked through his fingers and gasped. Standing in front of him was Phil looked to be out of breath and above else tired. Upon seeing Evan he began to do so again kneeling down holding out his arms beyond relieved that he ok.
"Evan..." Not wasting another moment and rushing to his father's embrace he ran into him and was immediately crying into his chest. Phil then lifted up his boy and darted off to the direction where the sounds of fighting was heard.
We see Eda unleashing a flurry of energy blasts sending a few coven guards flying. Normally she would be in a playful mood, but right now, she was pissed and wasn't fooling around.
From nearby a loud battle cry was heard and they turned to see a much older Saul lifting up a huge piece of rubble over him. Using his strength, the orc threw it forward at the incoming squadron of Coven Guards which scattered to avoid getting crushed.
"Eda! Saul!" They both turned to see Saul rushing over to them and quickly enough Eda sprinted right over to her husband taking her son out of his arms holding back a sob knowing that he was back in her arms.
"I hate to break the moment!" Saul cried out as he swung his staff blocking an incoming guard with a sword before kicking him away. "But we need to go now!" The orc exclaimed as he swatted a random guard aside with his arm before punching a hole into a nearby wall. "C'mon!" Both parents
They heard a powerful roar above them, looking up they saw something fly over the tower breaking off pieces of the top which went down. The cause of it was a massive brown scaled dragon which was covered in a sheer amount of small black spikes. Standing on it's back was also a much older Hilda whose hair had grown much considerably longer wearing a dark gray robe holding up a maroon-colored staff a gecko. Holding it up, the gecko's eyes glowed which in turn gave instruction to the dragon to set down laying down one of its wings.
"Let's go! Move it!" Hilda called out to her family who quickly rushed over and in the process Phil's younger sister blasted at a few incoming guards giving them the time that they needed to get on the large fire breathing reptile. Once on there, Hilda cried out getting a response back from the beast she was with getting up into the air and let loose a massive stream of fire onto the prison itself.
With that done the whole place was now on fire allowing the group to make mistake as a massive glow was seen in the distance going farther and farther away.
"They're not following us!" Saul informed the group. "Looks like were in the clear for now."
"It's dangerous here, were gonna need to hide out for the time being till things settle down." Phil said before turned to his sister. "Hilda? Do you know anywhere?"
"Plenty." The witch replied. "I got an idea of where to go."
With that all said and done Phil refocused his glance over to his wife who was still holding onto Evan for dear life as if he was gonna fly away from her arms. Close by her, little King was up against the little warlock who had long since grew tired and fell asleep in his mother's warm embrace. Not wasting another moment, Phil scooted over to his family and embraced his wife who was crying profusely relieved to know she had found their child.
By then the door had just closed and the trio was stunned by what they'd just saw.
"What did...we just see?" Luz questioned baffled by what they'd just watched.
"Evan's parents helped the Conformatorium on fire all those years ago?"
"Not just them...but also Saul and Hilda...What did I see teacher?" He asked himself the last part in a low whisper.
"I don't get it. The Emperor's Coven captured and locked Evan when he was just a little kid?" Luz was even more confused. "W-Why would they do that to him?"
"Maybe to capture his parents? But hear what they said?" Amity was just as confused as Luz. "'He caused it'. Caused what? Wilhelm do you know?"
"No. I'm sorry, but I don't. Perhaps we ought to consult with the Inner Evan? That maybe our best point of interest. "
"Ah, you three. I see that you already have much done." He stands up. "Much of my strength has returned, what can I do for you?"
"We need to know something. The last memory we were in, why was Evan thrown in the Conformatorium for?"
"I...I haven't the least faint idea."
"You are the one who looks over this mindscape. How can that be?" Wilhelm questioned.
"Prior to what you saw, whenever Evan tries to remember why he was captured. Even he doesn't know. Since he and I are one in the same it also applies to me. I'm sorry, but I can't answer that question if I don't know."
Back at the Owl House Eda had just finished explaining her reasons for leaving Hexside giving Willow and Gus a better understanding of the Owl Ladies past.
"So, there you both have it. That's what Hexside ultimately gave me." She said in a flat tone chugging her apple blood.
"Wow, no wonder you hate it there." Willow exclaimed. "
"What did you two do after dropping out?" Gus asked.
"Well, due to our status as wild witch and warlock we were relentlessly pursued.
"We had to be on our guard every day, everywhere we went. I can't remember how many times we got out of so many close calls. Those Emperor lackies just wouldn't leave us alone even if were to pay them to ignore us."
She tried to pour more into her cup but realized she was out sighing in annoyance but no less continued on since she'd already spilled a lot of beans as is to her apprentice's friends. "Then, somewhere along the line, we found this place and we had Evan. Despite what little we had and our status, we were happy."
Eda's face then turned into a sorrowful look. "But just like what life attends, not everything is warm and fluffy. Eventually, things started to get hard. My curse was getting worse over the passing years and Phil. He wanted to help me...but then he disappeared."
Both young witch and warlock could feel the hesitation in the owl lady's voice. "I spent six months looking for him...I tried everything...But even that wasn't enough."
Back in Evan's mindscape the group was taking a small break, they had been at this for an awful while now. And after seeing the last memory, they needed to collect themselves mentally to prepare for what might possibly come next.
"Any of you noticed that no one's said a single word for the last fifth teen minutes?" Amity asked throwing out her question. Because it was true, since they decided to take a short break neither, human, witch or warlock had not said anything at all.
"Well, you can't really blame us, Amity? We have a lot on our minds." Wilhelm said. "I'm worried of what we might possibly see."
"I'm worried of what we will see." Luz chimed in. "I keep thinking about what we saw. Because now, I have more questions."
"I can understand where you're going at with this Luz. I'm curious too. But we must focus on the now and later for another time." He proceeds to stand back up. "Were almost done you two. We just have to restore these last three memories."
"Wilhelms right. We might as well finish this." Amity said as she stood up and offered Luz a hand up.
"Ok." The human handed Wilhelm the keys. "Wilhelm would you mind opening these last two?"
"Sure." He took the keys and proceeded to unlock the third door when it was opened, they ended up finding themselves in the owl house once again.
Not wasting time, they noticed a coat rack knocked over. It was almost like a clear sign telling them exactly what they needed to do. Almost like Evan was somehow giving directions unknowingly. They were standing outside the door watching the memory play which showed Phil walking to the door holding a pack with one hand.
"Papa?" Hearing his voice Phil turned around.
"Evan."
"Where are you going?"
"I'm gonna be gone for a little while." Phil answered as he put on his coat.
"When will you be back?"
"It shouldn't take too long at all. I'll be back before you know it."
"C-Can I go with you?" Phil smiled sadly shaking his head no.
"I'm sorry Evan, but you can't."
"Why not?" Phil sighed as he knelt down to his level.
"Evan, I need you to stay here, to look after your mom and King."
"But isn't Hooty enough?"
"Yeah, aren't I?" The house guardian questioned while Phil gained a look of annoyance.
"But out Hooty."
"Ok, ok. I got it sheesh. Hoot." The house guardian said taking the hint.
Phil returned his gaze back onto his son. "Evan, can you do that for me?"
Evan meanwhile gave him a hesitant nod getting a smile from him. "Atta boy. Give me a hug." They embraced and after what seemed like what would take forever, they eventually separated, and Phil made his way out to the door taking out his staff and got onto it. After giving one final wave to Evan he flew off all while his kid watched till he couldn't see him anymore.
The memory had finished, and the door closed.
"That memory was when his dad left..." Luz instantly knew what it was. From the way her voice was, she almost sounded like on the verge of crying. "If we saw this one...than that one there..." She glanced over to the fourth door while Amity picked up the third key gained from the special doors.
"..."Wilhelm didn't say anything and proceeded over to the fourth and last special door unlocking it. Just like the last one they were in the Owl House, which was obviously a clear sign that a lot of Evan's memories were in the house itself. It only made sense, he was born there, and he spent his entire life living there as well.
"Once again were back here, what are we-.." Amity questioned as she walked before feeling something kick at her feet making her pause. Looking down to see a silver medallion showing a wolf bearing its fangs. "Does this mean anything?" She asked holding it up.
"That's Evan's medallion, the same one his dad gave him." Luz recognized it instantly. "Maybe this is it... but where does this even go?"
"I think I know... " Wilhelm said sadly as he took the medallion and placed it onto the coffee table by the couch in the living room. Evidently it was what was needed for the memory to be restored
Outside they watched as saw little Evan walking through the halls yawning rubbing his good eye. From the looks of it, he'd just finished a trip to the bathroom was gonna head back to bed. But as he was doing so, the sound of sobbing was heard catching his attention.
As little Evan made his way down the stairs, he stopped, pausing in shock. The reason why was because his mother was on the couch hugging a pillow crying her eyes off.
"Mama?" Hearing Evans voice her head shot up and she turned to see her son standing there with a confused and concerned look as she continued to cry. "Mama what's wrong? Did Papa not come home yet?"
She didn't say anything, her tears intensified, slowly up walked up to her son and dropped to her knees. "Momma?" Eda then embraced her child almost as if she was going to lose him.
"I'm sorry Evan...I'm so sorry..." By now Evan was in tears as well and he embraced his mother crying as well with King coming in next to them, he too was feeling sad including Hooty who wrapped around them joining in on the hug bawling out his eyes as well as the door closed showing the memory was finished.
"Uncle Phil's disappearance really took a toll on them. " Wilhelm said in sympathetic tone as he knelt down retrieving the key for the heavily locked door. "They spent a lot of time trying to find him. Sadly, they always ended up coming empty handed."
Amity gained a sad look of her own, and then noticed something out of the corner of her eye, Luz was crying. "You ok?" The human then just realized the state she was in and quickly whipped them away.
"Yeah, I-I'm ok. J-Just give me a minute. This...This is getting...really hard to watch." She then turns to the last remaining door that would help fully restore Evan's memory.
"This is the last one. Let's just...finish it and get out of here."
The trio each took a key and got into position. Amity and Wilhelm had already unlocked theirs causing the locks holding the chains to drop to the ground. They also noticed that the chains were starting to drop down. With a look of determination Luz took the last key and inserted into the final lock and twisted it. Once the final lock was opened, all the chains covering the door fell to the ground rattling the whole way until there was no more.
With a heavy sigh she opened it and they entered the memory. When they entered, they found themselves in an open field filled with flowers and grass, but the areas showed a little sign of burns, not to mention everything like the normal damaged memories everything was devoid of all color.
"This place I don't recognize." Wilhelm noted.
"Same here." Luz added. "I never been to place like this before. Usually something like this is something straight out of a book." She turned to see Amity had a look of confusion on her face. "Something wrong Amity?"
"..." She didn't respond but pointed forward.
Luz and Wilhelm all turned around and sure enough there was a person rather the outline of a person. You couldn't make out any features of this figure at all, just the silhouette which resembled more of a shadow. "What is that?"
"Let's find out."
"Luz what are you-" The human girl didn't listen to the witches protest and went up to the thing with caution.
"Uh...hi?" She didn't get a response back from it and her curiosity grew even more. Luz carefully waved her hand in front of it trying to get a reaction but still got nothing at all. Heck Luz even got the stupid idea trying to kick it but when she did, her leg phased right through it.
"I think it's fine, this isn't even doing anything at all!" She called out.
"Seriously hat is this even supposed to be?" Amity questioned as she and Wilhelm walked up to ti. "We never saw this in any of the memories before."
"Maybe it's a memory of something else...You know how we sometimes remember other things that transpire?"
Everyone began to think long and hard about this. If this wasn't a memory of something that happened in Evans life then what else could've it been? Luz's eyes widened as a thought dawned on her. She recalled a certain event that happened weeks ago, a couple of days before there first day at Hexside. She wasn't so sure on this theory, but she didn't know unless she found out for herself.
"Would a dream count?" Luz questioned getting their attention. "I mean, sometimes we remember dreams, don't we?"
"Sometimes yeah, but I don't think..."
"She might be onto something..." Wilhelm cut off Amity now in thought. "Luz let me ask you something a couple weeks ago did Evan say anything about having a dream?"
"Yeah. Yeah, he did, Eda told me she found him crying in the bathroom."
"He was crying?" Wilhelm grew intrigued. "Anything else?"
"Well...when I tried saying hello to him that following morning, he just looked at me and didn't say anything...His eyes...it looked like...he was afraid of something."
"I thought so. This whole memory recalls that dream Evan had."
"Wait this memory is focused all on a single dream? Why?"
"A good question." Wilhelm agreed with what Amity was saying. "Sometimes whenever we dream there's certain ones that stand out. In rare cases the same dream can repeat over and over again. So, either it's happening and he's not telling us, or just one time was enough to leave an impression on him."
He steps forward and walks through the anomaly. "Aside from he signs of the memory being damaged from the fire you caused Amity, it's clear that this is what we have to restore."
"Easier said than done. But...what are we supposed to even look for?"
"I don't know." Wilhelm wasn't so sure how to answer Amity's question one bit. "I do not know. But we have to find out, let's start searching for whatever stands out."
With that said the three split up and started searching through the vegetation of the field trying to find what could help restore the memory. However, because of how large it was, they weren't having much luck. They've been searching well over ten minutes now and they haven't found anything.
We see Wilhelm sighing in annoyance, starting to grow frustrated a bit. "Not fairing any better are you?"
Amity asked as she walked up to him. "No. How about yourself?"
"Same. You seen Luz?" Wilhelm pointed up ahead to the human girl who was continuing the search at a fast pace but made sure she didn't miss anything. "She's determined."
"That's for sure."
"Wilhelm?"
"Hmm?"
"Does it seem like Luz is acting a bit more differently now?"
Wilhelm glanced over to her. "What do you mean?"
"I noticed that she's getting a little more emotional." The red head caught on what she was referring to, he's noticed it too.
"She has been, hasn't she? Maybe it's because she could relate somehow."
"About what?"
"I don't know...maybe their fathers, both not being there? Each time we've been to a memory that had Uncle Phil she reacts differently."
"Differently? How do you know? She looked fine to me."
"Body language, and faint expressions." Wilhelm answered.
"Oh, I guess that makes a little more sense. I'm sorry."
"Don't be. The fact you're helping to correct a mistake you've made, right now is enough for me."
The witch could only smile, even with what she did he was even still able to keep an open mind. Even despite what she's done and felt numerous times in the past she didn't deserve a friend not after what she did to Willow, Amity was glad that Wilhelm was very much willing to be hers. Suddenly she noticed something, out in the distance. She couldn't make out what it was, but whatever this anomaly being this really stood out just as much as the shadow they'd found earlier.
"Wilhelm do you see that?" Wilhelm turned over to that direction and spotted what Amity was seeing. He couldn't make out what it was either, but it was right on a tree.
"Let's check it out." He quickly sprinted forward towards the lone tree in the field. While doing so, he passed by Luz.
"What's going!?" She called out as Amity came right by her.
"I think we found it!"
"Really!?" The human girl quickly caught up to her companions. "Are you sure!?"
"No. But that's were finding out." Wilhelm answered as they stopped at the tree. "This is where it was. Anyone see it?"
"Umm..." Amity started looking as did Luz who perked up instantly.
"Hey right there!" She pointed up. They now noticed something out in branches it was a white sun hat with a large brim.
Amity raised an eyebrow. "A hat? That's it?"
"Appears so." Wilhelm confirmed. "Amity, can you bring out an abomination?"
"Yeah." Making quick work Amity made a spell circle making a purple clay hand emerge from the ground stretching out towards the hat grabbing it before passing it to it's summoner. Once she had it, Amity made sure to clean it off. "So, anyone got a clear idea of what to do with this?"
Luz took the hat from Amity looked at the direction where the shadow was. She didn't know why, but Luz's gut feeling was telling her something. So, without another word she started to make her way over to it. Wilhelm and Amity followed her until they stopped in front of the shadow.
Afterwords it literally turned it's head over to the trio. This the first and only reaction they got out of it. "This has to be it." Luz said as she walked towards the shadow. "I don't know what I'll see, but whatever it is I want to help Evan. He's been helping me, so it's my turn to do the same." This was now the moment slowly she placed the hat onto the shadow. When she did, the light blinded them.
They found themselves outside indicating that the memory had been restored. No one said a thing, they've been curious to know just what the secret of this door was. Why didn't Evan want anyone to see this? The group was now about to find out the reason why, and the fear that he felt.
The memory began to play first showed a dark gloomy forest with Evan coming into sight. He was walking down a stone pathway making going towards an opening in the forest and there was one thing she noticed he seemed kind of depressed because the whole time he had his head down.
"Evan?" Luz was really concerned now. "Where is he going?" Wilhelm gently shushed her as they all watched as the area suddenly went from dark to bright and sunny. He was now in the grassy field, only it wasn't devoid of color, it was sunny, with beautiful clear blue skies, with a breeze that gently made the grass and flowers sway to it.
The trio watched as Evan stopped before Wilhelm noticed something coming into view. "Huh?"
"Whoa..." Amity glanced over to see what Wilhelm was looking at, her eyes widened, and a light blush crept up to her cheeks. "Um...Luz you're in this one."
"Wait what?" Sure enough, the green haired witch was right. Luz saw herself in a white dress with blue ruffles including the sun hat they found. "Wow...that's actually a good look." She muttered to herself and watched as the Luz in the dream walked up to Evan, taking her hand, she put it underneath his chin to make him look at her. The dream Luz didn't say anything but only smiled which in turn made Evan widen his eye in surprise before he smiled as well. She held out her hand and Evan hesitantly accepted it, when he did Luz started dragging him away running through the flowers.
The two of them were at a large crystal blue lake and they were dancing. Holding her hand, he was twirling her around a few times making her laugh as he did both were dancing away to their hearts content.
"He's dancing with you..." Amity said in shock watching this sight unfold feeling something at the same time but choose to ignore it. "Luz?"
"..." She didn't say anything, her sole focus was on the memory. Her eyes were widening a bit in surprise. Luz wasn't able to speak a word, because she was just so stunned seeing this.
"Well colored me surprised..." Wilhelm whispered underneath his breath glancing over to Luz who kept her gaze on what they were watching in awe especially when she watched herself and him falling onto their ends laughing away, having a good time ignoring the world around them. Evan just looked so happy in this, so this begged the question, Evan was trying to hide this from her? Luz knew that she needed to have a talk with him later on.
But all of the sudden the whole atmosphere changed taking the group by surprise.
"Wait, something else is happening." Wilhelm noted before they heard a shriek instantly he and Luz looked over to see that Amity was on the ground her eyes dilating in fear, her breathing was intensifying, and sweat was dripping from her forehead.
Pretty soon the sound of growling was heard, along with the sounds of loud chewing. Almost as if when you're eating real loudly. Wilhelm and Luz turned to the memory, and they gasped in shock.
They large pool of blood, and something was leaning over and eating wherever it originated from. Neither one of them couldn't move, couldn't speak they couldn't breathe because whatever this thing was massive, they couldn't really make any sort of features at all, it was just like one pitch black solid mass. It was hunched over, and it was eating, they could faintly see a leg sticking out from where its hands were at.
Suddenly the creature stopped slowly turning around growling, just enough to give them a view what was eating. Luz stepped back and lost her footing, because it was her! This thing was eating her intestines! They also managed to catch only a brief glimpse of it as well, they saw that it had two long horns and what made things more terrifying for the group was that this thing had Evan's face. This creature snarled at them, and then it leaned back its head and gave off an awful, awful blood curdling roar that was so similar to that of a scream so loud that the trio had to cover their ears.
Much to their horror it tried to lung at them, but before it could the doors suddenly slammed shut. The chains instantly rewrapped themselves and the locks put themselves back into place.
"So now you know..." They all turn back to the Inner Evan who now had his full strength return to him. "You wished to understand the reason why he's afraid. That's why."
"W-" Luz stumbled as she got back onto her feet, despite all the rush of emotions going through her body she managed to get back onto her feet. "What was that?"
"I can't say for certain." Inner Evan shook his head. "However, now that you know that same fear Evan had felt, hopefully you understand."
"Understand what!?" Amity asked walking up to him. "That now we have to worry about Luz's safety!? Is that it!?"
"No."
"Then what is!?" As she tried to reach for his collar Wilhelm stopped her.
"Amity, enough!"
"How are not affected by this!? You saw that! Evan will only put her in danger."
"No, that's impossible Evan is not cursed like his mother. She and others said that so herself." The red head responded trying to keep a cool head as he too wanted answers but knew they wouldn't get any if he faltered before turning to the Inner Evan. "And it was only just a dream, wasn't it?"
"Yes, it was." Inner Evan turned to Amity. "Amity, as the manifestation of Evan's memories, thoughts, feelings, everything. I tell you, that Evan is more afraid of hurting Luz more than you realize. That is the last thing he wants." Hearing this the green head calmed down a bit before he turned over to the human girl.
"I know you have a lot of questions, and all of this isn't what you expected. But please, I ask of you. Help Evan, right now he's at a point where he's sure what to do. He feels uncertain and I know that you can." With those words said the Inner Evan walked off.
Amity and Wilhelm walked up next to Luz who proceeded to take out the bell and rung it which in turn signaled the end of their mission.
Back at the Owl House we see Eda, King and Gus playing a board game. It being Clue and right now it was King's move. ".5. Ok, I'm in the conservatory and I'll call up Prince Phillipe about the knife."
"Oh, come on King." Gus groaned as that was his character. "I was just three spaces away from the library. You're just picking on me." The canine gave a flat look showing much little he cared.
"Tough break Prince. I'm a King. Now get over here already." All the sudden they heard bell ringing.
"Huh?" They both looked over to Evan who was still sleeping. "Oh, good there done." While the others quickly put the game Eda made a spell circle making lights that hovered over her son making them float out to the front which soon materialized into her apprentice, nephew and the girl who started this whole mess.
"Whoo, I'm finally glad that over with." Wilhelm said in relief before they turned to see Willow. Luz quickly rushed up to her.
"Willow, do you know I am?"
"A friendly scarecrow?" Luz gained a worried look till Willow gained a smile. "Just messing. I remember everything."
"Yes!" Luz hugged her friend. "She's back, folks! My girls back! I'm gonna hug you so hard that you'll never forget me again! Yes!"
Now seeing that her task was done Amity made for the door till Wilhelm stopped her and motioned his head over to Willow. Naturally she shook her head no, but Wilhelm just gave her a stern look telling her to do the right thing. Amity could only sigh in defeat, because she did burn his cousin's memories so it was the least, she could do and apologize while she was at it.
"I remember what you did too." Willow spoke up making Amity tense up turning over to her. "What you did in there. I can't say were friends but it's...a start. I appreciate what you did for me in there too Wilhelm."
Everyone heard a whoosh and looked to see the couch was empty followed by footsteps and a door slamming shut. This meant one thing Evan was awake too.
"I think that's enough for one night." The Owl Lady said. "For now, you should all head home." The other witch and warlocks present all nodded their heads in agreement before walking outside the door.
When they did, Amity spoke up. "So...I'll see you at school."
"Yeah you, too." Willow said before walking off into the direction with Gus that led back to town while the other two watched them go.
"Well, at least Willow knows the truth now." Wilhelm spoke up.
"I guess so. But I don't think it could ever go back to the way it was." Amity admitted.
"You never know. Right now, just one step at a time. There's always hope." Wilhelm then stretched out his arms yawning away. "I do believe that it is about time I retire for the night. I'll see you around Amity, have a good rest of your evening."
"You too. Wilhelm?"
"Hmm?" He stopped glancing back at her.
"I meant by what I said earlier, you know in Evans mind. Thanks again." Wilhelm simply gave her a thumbs up back in response making her smile, in response. Even though Amity knew she would most likely get chewed out by her folks she didn't care. She also remembered the invite that Skara gave to her, naturally her mother would make her go to make a good impression for their family. But right now, she didn't care one bit and let the butterfly fly off. Her mother may have forced her to give up her friendship with Willow, but there was one thing she couldn't do. Erase all those good times she shared with her childhood friend. Although they might not be friends now and possibly not for a while longer. After all, even despite having issues Amity had somehow managed to gain a good friend as well, one she could very well count on.
She couldn't help but chuckle while walking away, one minute she was ice queen on the verge of becoming like her mother. Now that cold heart had melted all thank to a few individuals who looked past the walls she made around herself.
Meanwhile back in the Owl House we see Evan in his room laying down on his bed staring up at his ceiling. He heard a knock on his door.
"Evan? Can I come in?"
Evan inhaled before exhaling calming himself down a bit. "Yeah...Come on in."
She did just that and closed the door behind her. She sat down up against his bed. Right now, both teens were at a very unusual and well, there just wasn't a way to describe it. On side you have someone who was trying to hide something that they didn't want the other to see, while the side you had the very same person finding out what they were hiding. This whole thing couldn't be ignored not now considering that the truth was out there.
Luz decided to start off the conversation she was going to have with him. "How are you feeling."
"Like my minds still intact." The one-eyed warlock replied in a dry bland tone. "Also pissed off with Amity."
"Evan-"
"Relax. I'm not gonna do anything to her." Evan cut her off.
"Really?"
"Yeah, but I'm still angry."
"Look...about what I saw..."
"No..." Evan out a hand. "No...please don't bring it up..."
"Evan, please come on talk to me." Luz pleaded to her friend. "I had no idea that dream scared you that badly...I didn't understand it at first but now I do...You just didn't want to bother me with your troubles, right?"
Evan sighed knowing full well the cat was out of the bag. "I was going to tell you, but it should've been on my terms. Not like this. I was barely even ready to...I just wanted to try find the right way to explain it."
"I get it. But holding that in, doesn't always help."
"Luz, when you get a dream like that. It ain't never a good thing. Plus how the hell was I supposed to even to tell you. 'Oh hi Luz guess what I had a nice dream and I saw myself eating you as a monster.' You get where I'm going at with that?"
"I do and your right. That would freak someone out."
"Are you kiddin? Most sane people would instantly stop talking to that person." Evan pointed out. "It just isn't natural."
"But, don't forget we are wierdos." Luz said making them both break into chuckles. "I'm also glad that you finally shared this with me. For a while, I thought I did something to get on your bad side. I don't a repeat of like what with Owlbert."
"Same here. Look, Luz you don't have to worry about me so much alright. I can handle myself."
"I know that. I want too though. Also, Evan?"
"Yeah?" Evan glanced over and noticed Luz blushing a bit.
"I remember the early part of the dream too. The one where were dancing. What was that about?"
Now it was his turn to blush as he sheepishly scratched the back of his head. "Um...I..."
"That's ok."
"Wha?" He turned over to her.
"You don't have to answer right now." She stood up from the bed. "I need a little time to think and clear my head too. But it maybe best to talk about it later at another time, ok?"
Evan only nodded his head understanding a bit of what she was saying. "That's fair. Hey, I'm gonna head to bed you probably should too."
"I'll do that. See in the morning. "As she stepped out the door Luz paused turning over to Evan who was getting set up to sleep. "You know something, that dress was really nice. Also, I'm curious do you actually know how to dance like that?"
Evan was a bit taken by surprise with what she said but managed to answer her. "M-My parents taught me."
"Well, you had some good teachers. Night Evan."
"Night Luz."
In her bedroom Eda sighed in relief, because today was so stressful. First her son's memory was destroyed, she waited for what felt like an eternity and on top of that to pass the time she actually shared a little bit of her backstory with a few kids. But even though she wouldn't admit it, a part of her felt a bit relief finally telling others her life's story.
As she got down into her nest, she felt something land on her chest. Picking it up the item turned out to be a framed photo. One that showed her younger self with Phil both holding Evan who was an infant. Seeing this made her smile lightly and without a single care she let an old memory resurface and play out just the way she remembered it.
The scenery suddenly changes showing a much younger Eda who at the time started to grow in her gold fang, her long orange hair was tied into a ponytail with two strands sticking out including two faint gray streaks starting to grow in. She was currently wearing a red dress much like the one was always wearing only a little bit of it was hanging from side exposing her shoulder with red boots.
"Eda? You alright?" She turned over the sound of the voice and it was her husband Phil. He had grown much taller, and his hair was much more long, wild and rigged. There was also a small amount of scruff on his upper lip and the lower part of his face. His current clothing right now was a dark purple open button up sweater with a black shirt underneath, handing from behind his back was a black cloak. Lastly, he was wearing grey tattered pants and boots to match. He had both their staffs strapped to his back sticking out sideways from his left side.
Currently they were in a small clearing by the river where the sound of the water running filled the air along with the various sounds of wildlife that lived on the Boiling Isles itself. They'd just finished up their small picnic.
She gave a small nod in response. "Yeah, I'm fine." She then hears a noticeable babble. Turning the source of this noise she smiled gently lifting up her fourth month old baby Evan who was wrapped in a small red blanket to keep him warm. "Shhhhhh..." The witch slowly began to cradle her child Phil smiled at this scene and helped his wife stand up allowing her to keep their son secured all while Lobo along help with Owlbert rolled up the cloth following up with Eda's palisman tying it into a knot before he flew off ahead of them while Lobo hauled the basket in a small cart.
Eda chuckled at this scene while continuing to rock the infant in her arms. "That little invention you made for Lobo is useful."
"Don't see why not, I've seen humans do the same thing with dogs in their world." Phil pointed out. "Plus, it helps him pitch in."
"What you jealous Owlbert gets the spotlight for helping?"
"Hardly, I just like to keep it fair." He then turned towards her sighing in content. "So, ready to go home troublemaker?"
She chuckled again as they began to walk all while continuing to sooth Evan who was starting to get a bit restless. "Well, it seems your son is very ready to go. So let's get going. I'm looking forward to a nice hot bath."
"Would there be any possible chance if Evan is asleep I can join?" Phil questioned and in response Eda pecked his lips.
"We'll see what happens." She answered and Phil hummed with that response.
"I didn't hear a no. So, I'll take it." He then exhaled out. "Pretty soon winters coming. I really better start to gather firewood."
"Come on Phil like you'd sometimes say, one thing at a time." Eda repeated what her husband had told her numerous times before while humming to baby Evan.
"So you have been listening." Phil noted. "But no, I can't put it off. I want to make sure Evan's first winter is warm and comfortable. Which also includes his mother."
Eda smiled hearing that. "Well, that's very reassuring. We appreciate that."
"I'm glad to hear it."
"You know...I really wonder what he's gonna be like growing up."
"C'mon don't talk like that, no one knows what the future holds. Besides enjoy these moments while you can hun. He won't be so little forever."
"I know that." She glances down to Evan's sleeping face smiling a bit before frowning the reason why was because of their sons birth defect. "I just wish he didn't have to deal with that."
Phil put a hand on her shoulder noticing her expression and already knowing what she was referring to. "I'm not pleased with it either Eda, but we've over this before. It's too risky to restore vision to that eye. He has one that'll let him see just how much we love him and how we'll support him however we can, you know that already. Besides, what'll count later on will be teaching him magic."
"Well I might be the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isle's but even I might have a little trouble with that."
"Am I hearing doubt? Who are you and what have you done with my wife?"
"Stop it." She playfully elbowed his side before pausing and looking out to the distance gazing at the sunset. "Phil...be honest with me. Do you think that we're really cut out for this?"
"Why are you asking this?" Phil walked up beside her looking to the sunset as well. "This something we both wanted. Although unintentional our wish was granted and were happy."
"Yeah, if the circumstances were better..." Eda gently rubbed her thumb across Evan's forehead. "You know just the other day, your old man dropped by."
Phil frowned at those words. "What did he want?"
"He only asked how we were doing, had a little small talk and told me to tell you 'You're an idiot'. Before leaving." Phil grunted at that. "I don't really blame him, others certainly would."
"What we do with our lives is our choice. I chose to be with you, and even though I wish things were different this is now and right now, we live together with our baby."
"I know Phil...I feel the same. I'm just worried about what will come. Like when he finds out about...my curse."
"You know that he'll be like us, Evan will make sure to do whatever he can to help you."
"I know that's what I'm afraid of." Eda said bitterly watching as her baby stirred again. " A part of me fears for him. Just like I fear I'll hurt him...just like-"
Eda's husband turns her around and wraps his arms around her neck, both warlock and witch touch their foreheads both gazing down at their infant son. "What happened with Dell, was not your fault. I know you still feel guilt, but don't you shouldn't let help you judge on how you show your love to Evan. We made mistakes, but that doesn't defy us. What happened, happened...our boy is not one of them. We have to be better. Not just for our sake, but for his as well."
We now see Eda place the photo back onto the nail that was hanging above the nest. Once she settled in, Eda reached into her pillow and pulled out her wedding ring. The same one Phil used to propose. It had a clear white diamond in the middle of it. The reason she hardly ever wore it now adays was because every time she saw it, the ring would make her cry and she didn't want to lose something else that held value to her.
"Phil...if you knew what I was doing...would you approve of it...and understand why I did it?" She asked herself wishing her husband was here right now to answer that question.
To be continued
Alright, there you have it for the second part. I do know it's very much heavily different with the added-on material, but that's pretty much the whole point. Now as a heads up I plan on updating this story at least one more time before the end of this month.
In terms of what else would be updated aside from this, probably Helluva Servant.
Now replying back to reviewers
kamenrider50q. Nah, I'm sorry but I'm pretty burnt out on Kamen Rider to be honest.
Patricia Louise A. Pena: Does this anwser your question my friend?
avengersendgame426: Yeah, I decided to make the whole memory episode more interesting and add in another part. As for Amity's case yes on being BI, plus don't worry more on Wilhelms past will be delved into pretty soon. In most likely two chapters from now. I plan on doing at least two Oc chapters before Grom, with one of them I've been wanting to do, but knew it could only be done during season 1 and before certain events as for the chapter after this one will be a much different twist to Small Problems.
Marbled Gold: Oh yeah, your spot on dude. As for the monkey, thing I was tempted too. But decided nah, even though it would've been funny.
LoneWolf427: Well, I do hope that you did enjoy the chapter dude, making this thing wasn't easy, so hopefully the hard work pays off.
Many Faced Mage: Oho, yeah, Eda is already a mother you don't want to piss off, and I'm very pleased to bring that side out of her much more in this story.
Devin Sands: Yep, mission accomplished along with heart felt moments with a very dark one to wrap it up with.
djinn: Thank you.
Von the Unstoppable: I actually considering too that originally but decided against it to make it a bit more mellowed out.
OMAC001: Well you asked and received!
kyrogue23: Oh yes, both pleasant memories, humorous and not so pleasant one are here. Hope you enjoyed reading it.
TheFranninator: I know you and a lot of others are, but rest assured it will happen, you'll just have to be paitent a bit further. Plus, the title of this story wouldn't be what it is without a bit of mystery now wouldn't it? :)
ahurtrojo1: Appreciate it
hoffajordanj: Is there? I didn't know that. Hope you liked this chapter.
Javin Spearman: Here you are.
miguel. Oh I haven't forgotten about them. As for whatever might transpire later on, they learn a thing or two. (Also sorry, but I don't want to reply to all of them. So please don't do so many reviews on one chapter, I can't be able to reply to all of them. I got limits.)
God of the Challenge: I don't know. Maybe actually show concern in that episode?
carltonharvey21: Here you go.
23debal01: Good eye.
Spiral-Voltron-Zero0Q1: I know the feeling about the life part, hope you liked reading this one.
(The Gues that leaves the Spanish Reviews.) I appreciate the ideas and all, but please tone it down a bit.
(To the Guest. Who Left many, many reviews.) I appreciate the ideas and I think I can use some. But please come on, quit putting up so many. I'd honestly prefer talking/discussing idea's through the PM that way there wouldn't be any spoilers know what I mean? I'm not saying I don't appreciate the enthusiasm but again, I only wish you were a bit more discreet with idea's that can possibly used.
