Most of the time, their relationship is good. Rey is one of the most genuine, caring, passionate people Poe has ever met, rarely censoring her true thoughts and feelings yet never intentionally causing harm. Her morals are black and white, but she sees people in vivid colour, just like he has always striven to do. And he knows she respects him too. Her eyes sparkle when they're together in a way they don't when he sees her with other people, and there are times when she looks at him with such open awe on her face that he knows she's just as crazy as him as he is about her.
But sometimes, in their worst moments, Poe wonders if Rey even wants him around. Whenever she has a personal problem, she retreats into her own head — even after five years of dating, he's lucky if she tells him, let alone involves him. And when they disagree, she often runs run headfirst into danger without him, as if his opinion doesn't matter.
Poe realises that isn't accurate. She cares; she just hates relying on others, so her default is handling everything alone. And he can tell she's genuinely trying to let him in more.
So he grits his teeth and bears the issues because at the end of the day, one of the things he loves the most about her is the fierceness of her independence. He can hardly blame her for occasionally taking it too far.
