010 - Shrine Meetup - Something Is Up With The Basement… | The Killings Of People In The Human Village
"Hmm… sleeping is fun and all, but this is not it." Yukari wanted to spice things up, so she thought of a meet up. In short, sakes. Being drunk is interesting in its own way. Then Mima showed up by crashing into her house once again. "She does that every day. It's mildly infuriating that I have to fix those. Mildly infuriating, but not impossible."
"Yo! I'm back from my adventure! Let me tell you, getting the nuclear book was difficult since they have tight security in their base, but in the end, I got it anyway. How? Because I'm that awesome." Mima smugly told her story about the time she probably stole the nuclear book. It is basically a book about nuclear and nukes… Tsar Bomba. "Uhuh, listen. I'm going to throw a party here, so will you help me?"
Mima got into a thinking position, then she said, "Sure. As long as I get to eat those delicious foods, though." Yukari nodded and she began to make a plan for the party. Mima is tasked to invite anyone who is Yukari's friends or Mima's friends. Yukari wants to inquire about something with Mima first. "Mima." Mima turned to her while holding a book called "How to make nuclear bombs for dummies."
"What's up? Do you need something, 'Kari?" she said while using Yukari's nickname that she gave her. "...Do you have beans?" Mima's face looks normal at first, but as time passes, her face slowly shows a "wtf" expression in the lowest tone possible. "'Kari, did you eat something that you shouldn't have eaten? No, scratch that. Are you high right now?" But Yukari still has that serious mode on. "I'm serious, Mima. Do you have any beans? Let me repeat it… DO YOU HAVE ANY BEANS?"
Yukari's form turned into something more horrific than her eldritch cosmic horror appearance from before. However, Mima didn't care about the appearance because she already saw weird shit during her time when she's alive and during the time that she's dead. It is kinda strange and supernatural if you think about it. But then again, Mima is a supernatural being herself, so it is logical to think that she can be alive and dead, then semi-alive/semi-dead.
"Um, no, myem. I don't have any beans, but if you want to have some, then go to the human village to buy those. Anyway, myem, I just came here to tell you that story, and since I'm out of stories to tell, I'm outta here. See ya, myem!" Then Mima flew through the ceiling, breaking it in the process while exiting the building with a gleeful smile on her face that somehow Yukari saw with her red-purple tinted eyes.
"...And I have to fix that part of the ceiling. *sigh* How many times is this shrine going to be destroyed? Is this place cursed? I don't remember letting a vengeful spirit, well besides Mima, inside the shrine. To be fair, the shrine is six feet below the surface level, so some people in the human village thought it was the entrance to Makai. I keep saying "no, it's not," but dumb people being dumb are dumb after all." After Yukari finished her rant about some of the everyday problems that she encounters, she left the shrine and thought that she will fix the hole later when she comes back.
Some time later in the human village…
A father is watching his family eat his delicious food that brought from the store. Seeing his wife and daughter made him happy to the point that he hugged them. "Papa, I'm eating!" said the daughter while she was being hugged to death by her father. The wife hugged back, but she stopped because she was trying to eat.
"Honey, stop. I'm trying to eat, but we can do something "fun" later, if you know what I mean." The husband laughed as the daughter didn't know what they were saying. "Mommy, what do you mean by fun? Are you going to play with a kendama?" The parents quietly chuckled as the father said something to his daughter. "My daughter, your mommy and I will do something that is not fun. You can play with the doll that we just bought from that puppeteer girl. Is that alright with you?"
The daughter nodded as she quickly finished her food and left the table to play with the doll. The father looks worried as he silently sits in his chair. The wife glanced at him and looked concerned. "What's wrong, my strong, handsome man~?" The wife asked him in an alluring manner that many men might fall in love with her in an instant.
"It's… it's nothing, honey. I just thought something bad might happen to us. You know, with you being a, umm-" The wife cut him off and said it straight to him. "A devil, specifically a succubus. I know, but we can get through this together. As long as the neighbors don't know, then we'll be fine. I promise." The husband is content with her wife's answer. "You know… we can forget this sad event from ever happening by going to the bed if you know what I mean." The wife looks interested in what he's saying. "Oh~? I definitely know what you mean. Let's go and make love~."
Then two finished their meal and went off to their bed to do something that only people who know what they are talking about do. In another place which is the other side of the human village, Yukari is walking the path that leads to the center of the village where the food stalls are being set up. Apparently, there's a festival going on. Yukari didn't know that because she doesn't often get out of the house, and she's a lazy bit-
"I'm getting close to my destination, and I suggest you don't continue that sentence, author." …Duly noted. Anyway, Yukari arrived at the center just under… two hours. Bro, you can reach the center in under three minutes. You slow as heck, my guy. "Shut up." Once Yukari found the food stall that she was looking for, i.e. the lamprey stall manned by, umm, that night sparrow girl, she immediately ordered seven whole pack of lampreys for the partier which are Rumia Kamishirasawa because she's her best friend, Nue Toramaru because she's a good youkai unlike her boss and her coworker, Mima Kirisame because she's Yukari's new best friend somehow, Chen Komano because she's always at the shrine so she might as well invite her, Yukari Hakurei which is herself, Hieda no Yuuka because she's kinda an important figure at the human village where the people there respect her due to her frightening aura, the night sparrow girl because she's the one who made these lampreys, and Panacea Gloom because she's the head doctor at the human village and friends with Hieda no Yuuka so she might as well invite her.
"I think that's all I need for the party. If I forgot anything, then that's that. The others will probably bring something to the party. Already asked that night sparrow girl to join the party, and she surprisingly agreed. Never thought that she is going to accept it, but whatever." Yukari slowly, lazily, and casually heads back to the shrine because she can't fly. Something about short term memory or something.
Once she's back at the shrine after that grocery shopping, Yukari placed the lampreys at the living room and has gone down to the basement to get the plastic chairs and the plastic tables for the party. She is at the door to the basement. She opened it and headed down. In the basement, there's screaming and shouting that can be understood as "Please, let me out! I didn't stab the child and eat her organs!" "I didn't do it, I swear! I didn't drown my family because my mind said so!" "It wasn't me, it wasn't me, it wasn't me, I didn't rape the little girl and killed her afterwards, it wasn't me, it wasn't me…" and so on and so forth. Yukari ignored the pleas of the psychopathic, insane, demented, homicidal criminals that are being imprisoned behind the boundary prison that tortures them for their crimes for an indefinite amount of time.
After trying to find the plastic chairs and plastic tables, she found it just lying around at the edge of the basement. "Ah, finally. I found what I'm looking for." She grabbed all of it and proceeded to exit the basement. Of course, she didn't forget to lock it because, let's be honest here. The people don't have to know what their protector is doing to the criminals. Why? Because the majority of the people don't know that she exists in the first place, anyway.
"Ignorance is bliss," she says.
Stop continuing what I'm about to say. "Hahahahaha… no." Moving on, she placed all the plastic chairs and the plastic tables in their correct spot for the partiers. Now that Yukari finished the preparation for the upcoming event, Mima and Chen came out of nowhere and both of them have been talking to each other. It looks like they have fun in whatever they are doing. They must be playing in the plains biome or somewhere fun.
Yukari saw the two and said, "Oh, you're already here. I haven't put down the food yet." Mima said goodbye to Chen as she sat down on one of the plastic chairs. and quickly got close to Yukari. "Sure, sure, I can wait. But I have a question, though." Yukari gestured to her to continue. "How did you contact all of them to be invited to this party that you're making?"
Yukari slowly nodded in the most intellectual way. "You see, I just contacted them via my boundary manipulations. Now all of them know that I'm throwing a party in the shrine's backyard." Mima just "oh" and quickly understood what she said despite not knowing how Yukari did it in the first place.
"Now then, how about you go find a chair and sit on it while we're waiting for the others. I'm mostly, positively sure that some of the people will go to the party… probably." Mima already found a chair while Yukari is talking. She doesn't mind as long as she finishes the party and goes to sleep. 'I wonder why I did this in the first place? This isn't like me throwing a party out of the blue,' Yukari thought as she found a chair herself and sat on it while drinking vodka and not sake because she had enough of those and thinking about the actions that she had done that led up to this point where the party is now being initiated.
"This is truly the most odd thing that I have done, but not so bizarre to the point that it reaches the top ten bizarre things during my time as I wander around the earth." When Yukari's monologue segment about her life was done, she saw someone in the shadow approaching the backyard. 'Why can't they just go through the front door and enter there? I swear they use their ability just because they can.'
Yukari saw who it was. It's Rumia, her best friend and her alarm clock because she always crashes into her house and wakes her with no reason whatsoever. Mima is her other best friend, but that's besides the point. "Late to the party, eh?" Rumia rolled her eyes in a joking manner. "Is that so? *looks at the people in the party* Uhuh, sure, I believe you. But Yukari, I have a problem. Big ones." Yukari grunted after hearing the word "problem" from Rumia. Usually when there's a problem that Rumia says, it basically means it is actually huge, like huge, huge to the point that it can severely damage the realm.
"What is it this time? Can it wait and instead have a party? We can do it tomorrow and we can just party hard today, you know?" Rumia was about to say something, but dismissed it because she knows Yukari is tired from the recent incidents. Mainly, the ones such as that ice dragon who dropped the temperature to unbelievable low levels to the point that it reaches the negatives or that insane monk who tried to destroy the human village because she wants power? Not sure about that one.
"Fine, fine. But, we have to start tomorrow morning. I'll give you a quick rundown tomorrow, then we'll get started." Then Rumia goes off to talk to the other people who are at the party. Yukari is left alone to just sit down and watch the surroundings in case some uninvited guests are trying to crash into the party.
The next guests have finally arrived, them being Hieda no Yuuka wearing her usual working outfit when she's working in the town hall. "Welcome to the party. How're you feeling right now? To be able to talk to other people and possibly make friends?" Hieda no Yuuka just grunted and pushed Yukari away from her and found a chair to sit in. Yukari just has a neutral expression on her face.
The next guest is Nue Toramaru. The only youkai who is nice and would never trick you. "Nue, welcome. I hope you're going to have a good time at this party." Nue didn't say anything and just nodded meekly. She headed inside and sat down on one of the chairs that are far away from everyone, the corner chair if you will.
The next one to enter the party via the path in the front is Panacea Gloom. "Your friend and possibly her only friend in the human village is here. Never thought you'd come to the party. What gives, doll?" At this point, Yukari is just greeting (possibly berating) them with a neutral and tired expression on her face. The guests didn't care, though.
"This party is the only vacation I have since apparently everyone in the village gets "sick" all the time." Yukari knew what she was talking about, so she didn't pester her any longer. Now that all the guests are at the party… wait, there's one more. Who could have forgot that the person that is in charge for the food is—
"Ah, yes, the night sparrow who graciously provided us with the food for the party. How're you doing these days?" The night sparrow, whose name isn't known yet, glared at her. "It's nunya business…" Yukari opted to introduce herself since this is the right time as ever. "Yukari Hakurei. Yours?" The night sparrow hesitatingly gave her name. "The name's Fujiwara no Mystia. Hello again, Mokaru Tare." As Mystia got Yukari's name wrong, Yukari corrected her. "My correct name would be Yukari Hakurei, not Mokaru Tare." Mystia just roughly pushed Yukari out of her path and rudely entered the party. "Yeah, yeah, sure, Nakurei Wata." Yukari just gave up on correcting her and sighed at Mystia's terrible naming convention.
Now that all the guests are finally here, the party has begun. People ate the lampreys, some even bought their own alcohol, mainly sake because their names are kinda like japanese, some even passed out drunk, and many more chaotic things that are happening in the backyard of the shrine. All in all, it was all good. But, all good things must come to an end.
Hours and hours passed, the partiers slept inside the shrine because it was already night time. They could have gone home since most of them are youkais, but they didn't because they have an "excuse" to have a sleepover in Yukari's shrine. Those sorry excuses aren't even an excuse. It's more like a slurs that comes from a drunk person, in which they are. Yukari is mildly infuriated by this, so she just didn't bother anymore.
Today's day is over and tomorrow has become a gift wrapped for Yukari, but she didn't like her present at all. When Yukari woke up, the first thing that she woke up to was Rumia telling her the big problem from yesterday. "Yukari! Wake up! There's a big problem that might affect the human village and might cripple them with no hope of recovering from it!" Rumia continuously slapped Yukari on the face as Yukari didn't bother to wake up.
Yukari finally gives a shit (metaphorically) and instantly grabs Rumia's arms to stop her from slapping her. After stopping Rumia from her slapping spree, Yukari gave her the face that might even terrify people and probably even the most dangerous and insane people. The face is so horrendous Rumia puked on the floor. Yukari's face really do be like this.
[Refer to the cover art book. Yukari is there. Can't find it? Skill issue, I guess.]
"AAAAAAAA!" Rumia screamed as she saw Yukari's face. "Why the hell are you screaming?" Yukari's face turned back to her normal one. In actuality, that was just her face waking up in the morning. "Y-Your face turned into something horrifying! What was that?!" Yukari just shrugged and said, "Get to the point and tell me what's happening in the human village. You said something big has happened, right? Then tell me straight to my face."
Rumia took a minute or two to calm down after that shenanigan. "Okay, okay. There has been a massive homicide and about fifty people are dead. How they died, it ranges from being decapitated, being drowned in their own bathtub, being stabbed in the chest twenty to fifty eight times, and many more that I won't be mentioning because it's too graphic." Yukari took a second to absorb the information, then said, "Alright, I'll see what I can do to solve this, well, I think we can call it an incident since it's already this massive."
"Thank you for helping me. I'll be at the human village and keep a lookout for anyone suspicious." Yukari nodded as Rumia also nodded and left the shrine to do her work. Yukari slowly and lazily walked into her backyard where the party was held. Trash and the likes are all over the floor. She sat down on one of the plastic chairs and looked at the human village from afar. "...Rumia doesn't need to know that I'm the one who took "care" of them. They're criminals, so they're free game." Yukari continued to sit down and think about what she has done in the past, then she was interrupted by Mima who heard her but didn't comprehend what she was saying because she's too far away.
"Yo! What are you talking about?" Mima inquired, not knowing anything about what Yukari's talking about. "I said that we should clean this," Yukari lied as she naturally breathed. "Cleaning? Aw man." Then both of them quickly cleaned the backyard and went their separate ways. With Mima going to some random ass forest, and Yukari going to the human village to "inspect" what the damage is.
During the "inspection", Yukari heard someone crying about the love of their life having been taken away from them. "No! Why did that maniac killer take away my wife! *cries like an amateur*" Yukari went away from the father and the daughter who were both crying. 'Hmm… not my concern, therefore I don't have a problem with them. The people don't have to know that I did it. Whatever, they're psychopathic criminals who probably kill, rape, and other horrendous acts that they have done to the innocents, anyway. I bet that guy who is crying is being mind controlled in some way. His wife is a succubus, those creatures can't be trusted. Haven't they learned anything from the bible? It's his fault for not knowing anything about it.'
The father went to find a chair to sit down on, crying for her beloved wife who is now gone from his life… PERMANENTLY. Yukari was about to leave the scene because she's already done with the so-called inspection, but the daughter saw her at the last minute. She rushed to her side and cryingly said, "M-Miss, you're the protector, right? I r-read a book a-about you protecting us… WHY DIDN'T YOU SAVE MY MOMMY?!" The girl screamed straight from her broken heart. Luckily, nobody heard it since they're in an alleyway, or that Yukari created a boundary that only her and the girl can only hear each other.
Yukari knelt down to the child, grabbing her right shoulder. "Why? Well… YOUR MOMMY IS A DEVIL. A SUCCUBUS TO BE EXACT. I'M SORRY, BUT I'M JUST DOING MY JOB." Then Yukari knocks the child out in a harmless way, then sends her on a chair near her father via gap. The father didn't see her because he was busy crying. "The father will see her. Now, I'll take my leave. I'll report back at the shrine since Rumia likes to use her shadows to just slap me in the face when I'm sleeping."
Some time later at the shrine…
Yukari is sleeping on her bed as Mima scrambled around the room to look for more books that are related to nukes, nuclear, and synonyms to that word. Mima is making a loud ruckus trying to find what she's looking for. "Gyah! I can't find it! Where is it!?" Yukari didn't even bother to help because she's sleeping. But then, something happened. SLAP! Yukari was slapped on the face yet again. SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! Actually, she was slapped multiple times, and it doesn't take a brainer to know who this person is. Yukari already knew who the person was. "YUKARI!" Yukari covered herself with a blanket, then covered her ear, whispering, "Protect me, blanket." Then the blanket got instantly pulled away from her.
"I know you're awake because I heard what you said! Wake up already! Give me the report on your investigation!" Yukari has this questioning look on her face. 'Oh, so that is what it's called. It's not the word inspection, but the word investigation.' Yukari was about to be slapped by Rumia, but she caught her hand in speed that no species, not even deities or gods, can comprehend. "WHOMST'D'VE'LY'YAINT'NT'ED'IES'S'Y'ES AWAKEN ME?" Rumia stopped slapping after she saw her mildly infuriated and the strange words that Yukari said. She doesn't want to see that scary face again.
"W-what are you saying? The investigation report. Tell me." Yukari sighed in a mildly infuriated manner, then finally said the investigation report, which is not inspection, to her. Yukari gave the important points that Rumia has to know. "Hmm, it is correct. The same as the last deaths and on how they were killed. Some were kidnapped, too. Your investigation report lines up with mine. I'll be heading out now. The council has to know this." Then Rumia left the shrine via shadow. Yukari instantly goes back to her peaceful and relaxing sleep.
"Yukari! I found it! There's going to be explosions, so stay away from the backyard because it could get loud and explosive." Yukari sighed and is now mildly infuriated by this, but every day is always mildly infuriated to her. Ergo, nothing's new and every day is pretty much the same to her. 'I got to buy those ear muffs. Once I buy it, no more sounds that will interfere with my sleep. And then there's that problem with that Baku Satoru hybrid entity. I'll deal with her once I actually sleep.' Then Yukari finally closed her eyes and went to sleep.
Meanwhile, with Mima…
"Finally… I have finished crafting the demon core! At least, that's what it's called in the outside world. With this, I'll become the strongest! MYEM! MYEM! MYEM! MYEM! MYEM!" As Mima was laughing in joy due to her achievement, the demon core fell off the table and rolled down towards the lake. Mima saw this and tried to catch it, but it was too late. The demon core is now under the lake. "Noooooo! My achievement is gone forever! Woe is me!" After Mima said the last part, she dramatically did a sad pose.
That demon core will certainly won't cause trouble in the future, I promise…
