Season 2 Episode 11: Pups Save A Merpup! Into the Ocean!

February 16th, 2030

Ben, Ryder, Chase, Rocky, Zuma, Skye, Rubble, and Marshall sat around a campfire on the beach with Captain Turbot, eating some sausages. Alex, Tuck, and Ella had stayed behind to help Wild take care of his mom, who was getting sicker and sicker by the day. The pups were eating some liver flavored sausages. "Sure you two don't want to try one? They're really good!" Rubble offered as he started to chow down.

Ben shook his head no in response. "I'm okay, I prefer regular sausages." Ben answered.

"Yeah, I like my sausages liver-free." Ryder agreed.

"Mind if I munch a morsel?" Captain Turbot asked.

"Help yourself to them." Ben nonchalantly replied.

"Mmmm! Delicious! Benjamin, my boy, these lovely liver-links are liver-iffic!" Captain Turbot exclaimed after taking a bite out of one of the liver flavored ones.

Ben chuckled. "In that case, help yourself to as many as you like!" Ben told the captain.

"But don't eat too many, or you'll turn into a pup!" Zuma joked.

The sailor laughed before looking up at the sky. "Well, I guess anything is possible under the magical Mer-moon!" Horatio mused.

"Yeah! Like in that totally cool legend of the mer-pup!" Zuma piped up.

"Merpup? What's a merpup?" Rubble wondered.

"Dude, you don't know?! A mer-pup has the body of a pup and the tail of a fish!" Zuma explained.

"Yeah, and the legend says when the full moon rises exactly at sunset, it's a magical Mer-moon and the touch of a mer-pup can turn you into one! But for that night only, and just until the sun rises." Skye added.

"That is the tale, tall or true, and that is the marvelous, maybe even magical, mer-pup-moon!" Captain Turbot finished the legend.

Chase rolled his eyes and snorted. "Magical merpup moon… puh-lease. Have you actually seen a mer-pup, Cap'n Turbot?" Chase scoffed.

"I think I have, young pup! Many moons ago, I had a magically mysterious, mystically marvelous, mer-pup meeting!" Captain Turbot responded confidently.

"REALLY!?" Ben, Ryder, and the pups gasped, not expecting Captain Turbot to actually have had an encounter with one.

"Indeed, my friends! Allow me to paint you a picture with my words. The magical Mer-moon filled the sky... beaming bright as a beacon. Suddenly, I saw something splishing and splashing! A sea otter? Or surely a seal! But as I sailed closer, I saw something with the tail of a fish, and the face of a pup! It swam undersea, but I could still hear it singing its sweet, sweet song. The legendary mer-pup! I just needed positive proof that it was true! I took this photo, and behold, the tail tells the tale!" Captain Turbot described to them, detailing his encounter with the mythical sea creature and showing them the picture he had taken.

"Tsk, all I see is a thumb!" Chase dismissively growled.

"I always dreamed of becoming a mer-pup!" Skye squealed.

"It would be pretty cool to be a mer-pup. Except for the getting wet part." Rocky commented.

"Are you sure that the tail isn't that of a walrus or something?" Chase asked skeptically.

"Well, nobody's ever gotten a real good picture of a mer-pup. It could have been something else." Ryder thoughtfully said.

"Perhaps this picture isn't perfect proof, but I know I saw a mer-pup on a magical Mer-moon night long ago. And that myth might come true again tonight!" The captain sighed happily. Ben smiled as the group started to yawn.

"I'd love to see a mer-pup!" Zuma grinned.

"I'd love to be a merpup!" Skye yipped.

"I'd love to…" Rubble trailed off before starting to snore.

"I think it's time to start dreaming of merpups. Good night pups." Ryder sleepily said before going to lie down in his tent.

The other pups, save for Zuma and Skye, fell asleep. Zuma stuck his head out of his tent. "Hey Skye, are you awake?" Zuma whispered.

"Yeah! I can't stop thinking about the mer-pup!" Skye quietly answered. "Me too! We should totally look for it!" Zuma agreed.

"Count me in!" Ben added as he followed the two pups out to the beach.

"You're gonna help us with the merpup search, Ben?" Zuma asked.

"Course I am! I've been a fan of cryptids and paranormal stuff for ages." Ben reminded the two. They sat on the beach shore for fifteen minutes, with Zuma and Skye starting to drift off before they heard a cry from the ocean. "I heard one!" Ben exclaimed. The three ran to the water and saw a dog with the tail of a fish out of the ocean before diving back in. "The legend is true! HAHA!" Ben cheered.

"But Captain Turbot said that the mer-pup's song sounded sweet! That sounds sad." Skye noted.

"Yeah, like she needs help!" Zuma gasped as he realized it.

The trio rushed back to the rest of the group. "Ryder! Everyone! We saw the merpup!" Skye exclaimed.

"Skye, Zuma, you okay?" Ryder asked.

"We're awesome! We saw the merpup!" Zuma replied.

"The merpup?" Chase scoffed. "In the water! We think she needs help!" Skye continued.

They sprinted back to the water's edge, to find nothing. "I don't see anything." Chase growled.

Skye and Zuma were sad. "I know what we saw, Ryder." Ben argued.

"Guess it was a false alarm." Ryder sighed as the rest of the group went back to bed, minus Rocky and Captain Turbot.

"That mer-moon is marvelously magical." The sailor commented before going back to his hammock.

"Did you really see a merpup?" Rocky asked.

"You believe in the merpup, Rocky?" Skye inquired.

"I used to dream of meeting a mer-pup! I even dreamed of swimming with one." Rocky sighed happily, remembering his fantasies fondly.

Ben laughed at this. "Rocky, you dream of swimming!? You hate getting wet! You don't even like washing your paws!" Ben giggled.

"Yeah, but in my dreams, getting wet isn't a thing. Swimming is super fun when I'm under the water, and I don't surface. Or when I'm with Zuma." Rocky commented.

Ben chuckled at that response. "Well then, how about you look for the Merpup with us?" Ben offered. Rocky nodded his head in agreement, but quickly drifted off to sleep.

Zuma then saw a paddleboard at the beach's edge… almost as if it had been placed there, or pushed there. "We can use the paddleboard to get close and prove it!" Zuma suggested.

Ben grinned. "Great idea! My Ranger armor is also equipped with half a day's worth of oxygen!" Ben chimed in.

The three of them left Rocky sleeping at the shore and paddled out to the sea, with Ben activating his Ranger armor. Soon enough, they heard the song of the merpup, and saw the merpup leap out of the water before surfacing beside their paddleboard. "She looks worried…" Ben noted.

"Hi! This is Zuma, that's Ben, and I'm Skye!" Skye introduced them to the merpup.

The merpup let out a worried bark and pushed the paddleboard further out into the sea. "Is something wrong, merpup? Do you need some help?" Zuma asked.

In response, the merpup headbutted the two pups off of the paddleboard. "HEY! What was that for!?" Ben roared.

The merpup then pressed her snout to the two pups, and a brilliant radiant light burst outwards. "WE HAVE FISH TAILS!" Skye squealed in delight as she looked down.

Ben hopped off of the board and dove underwater, gasping as Skye and Zuma indeed had mermaid tails. "WE'RE MERPUPS! JUST LIKE THE LEGEND!" Zuma shouted in delight.

The merpup motioned for them to follow her, circling around Ben as she pressed a paw to his armored chest.

"Let's go. She gave you her magic for a reason." Ben solemnly said as he was about to dive underneath the water, a tube extending from the compartment on his back and connecting to his helmet.

Zuma and Skye stopped him though. "We need to call Wyder first!" Zuma reminded Ben.

The eighteen year old sighed, knowing that Zuma was right. "Give us a minute, merpup." Ben told the mythical beast as they contacted their leader.

Back at the campsite, Ryder woke up as he heard his pup pad ringing. "Come in Ryder!" Zuma shouted as Ryder answered the call.

"Zuma, what's wrong!?" Ryder questioned, wide awake when Zuma's anxious expression popped onto the screen.

"There's an emergency with a merpup! Skye, Ben, and I found her!" Zuma told Ryder.

"Zuma, are you sure?" Ryder asked, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.

"Totally, totally sure! 'Cause Skye and I are… well, look!" Zuma replied, lifting his fish tail into the air. Ryder felt like he had been hit with a bucket of cold water. "YOU HAVE A FISH TAIL! She made you merpups!" Ryder gasped. "We called because this merpup is extremely worried. I can tell by her face and her cries." Ben explained.

Ryder exited the tent and the cry of the merpup rang out over the phone, awakening Captain Turbot. "Oh my! Moaning mer-pup Mer-song! The tone of that tune tells me there's trouble in Mer-town!" The seaman exclaimed.

"Zuma, Ben, and I will dive down to check out the problem. You'll be able to track us with the homing devices in the pup tags." Skye said, giving Ryder a rundown of their plan.

"I'll get the other pups up and be right there." Ryder promised.

"Let's take to the sea!" Skye yelled out as she did a backflip and dove underwater.

"Let's dive in!" Zuma barked.

"Swim to the rescue!" Ben declared before sinking beneath the surface.

The call ended there, and Ryder pulled his pup pad's section out before pressing the multicolored button. "No job is too big, no pup is too small! PAW Patrol, to the beach!" Ryder announced.

"RYDER NEEDS US!" The four remaining pups shouted.

Marshall tumbled into the pups that had lined up, with their under construction Sea Patrol Lookout Tower looming in the distance. "This pile feels smaller than usual!" Marshall remarked, before getting off of Rocky, Rubble, and Chase.

"PAW Patrol, ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Chase reported.

"So am I, Ryder!" Captain Turbot saluted the seventeen year old, earning chuckles from everyone else.

"Well, everyone, we've got quite a tale on our hands! Ben, Zuma and Skye found the mer-pup! And it seems she, uh... magically turned Skye and Zuma into mer-pups! Just like the legend!" Ryder revealed.

"Oh, as if." Chase scornfully smirked, still doubting the whole situation.

"Skye and Zuma dove down with her. We need to get out there and help. Cap'n Turbot, I need you to go underwater with the diving bell! Chase and Marshall will ride along with him while Rubble and I go into the ocean using Zuma's submarine. Rocky, don't worry. You won't have to go underwater. You'll stay up here with my pup pad and let us know if they call." Ryder continued, giving instructions out to the rest of the team.

"Turbot tackles trout!" The sailor shouted, earning confused looks from the four pups present. "It's my callout. Turbot tackles trout!" Captain Turbot explained, and everyone laughed at this. Rubble followed Ryder to his sub, and Chase and Marshall trotted after the captain and got into the diving bell.

Ben, Zuma, and Skye swam through the ocean after the merpup. Ben was impressed and amazed at how beautiful the ocean was. They were able to dive pretty deep, and the Merpup then led them to a sunken ship that was situated on the edge of an undersea cliff. "Wow, a sunken ship!" Zuma marveled.

The merpup then swam up to the door of the ship and barked out worriedly. "What is it, mer-pup? What's wrong?" Skye wondered.

The merpup gestured to the door, which was barricaded by the broken mast of the ship. The face of a smaller merpup popped up in the door's window. "You're a Mer-mama! And your little mer-pup is trapped!" Skye gasped.

"Then that must be what she needs us to help with! Let's move that beam!" Ben declared.

The Labrador, cockapoo, and human swam underneath the beam and attempted to lift it up, but it was too heavy and wouldn't budge.

"Ben, can you cut through the beam with your sword? Maybe if it gets cut into pieces, we'll be able to lift it!" Zuma suggested.

Ben's hand went to his belt to draw the blade from his scabbard, but it wasn't there… "Oh no. I left my sword back at the beach when we got on the paddleboard so that I wouldn't frighten the merpup!" Ben moaned.

Skye patted the armored teen on the shoulder. "It's okay, Ben! Don't worry! We're not in this alone! Our teammates are coming down to help us! I'll go and find Ryder." Skye reassured him before swimming off in search of their friends.

After swimming for a while, Skye passed by Ryder and Rubble in Zuma's sub, waving hello to them. "Skye really is a merpup!" Rubble breathed in shock as she pointed them in the direction of the sunken ship. The aquatic pilot pup then swam to the diving bell, which she could see from Ryder's location.

Marshall and Chase were talking about the mer-pup debacle. Even though they had been called on a mission to help the merpup, Chase still was in denial that it was real. "Skye and Zuma as mer-pups? I don't want to miss this!" Marshall excitedly said.

"Me neither!" Captain Turbot affirmed, nodding his head.

"Meh, I bet it's nothing." Chase sniffed, still not believing.

The dalmatian and submarine operator gaped when they saw Skye tapping on the glass window behind Chase. "There's no way you can say that mer-pups don't exist now!" Marshall exclaimed.

"Huh?" Chase blurted out. Marshall pointed at the window, and Chase spun around to see the love of his life with a fish tail. She looked so beautiful… "Huh? Pup? With a fish tail? THAT'S SKYE!? SHE'S A MERPUP!? Ooogh…!" Chase yelped, before fainting due to the sheer shock.

Skye looked like she was trying to say something to them, but the captain and the two pups couldn't hear her through the glass. "Let me just turn on my handy-dandy diving bell speaker and we'll be able to hear Skye!" Captain Turbot announced, activating the communicator.

"FOLLOW ME!" Skye commanded, and the diving bell went after her as she guided them to the ship.

As the pups and humans regrouped at the wrecked ship, Zuma gave a rundown of the crisis. "Guys! Am I glad to see you! The Mer-mama's little pup is totally twapped in the cabin behind this beam! Skye, Ben and I twied to get it loose, but it's wedged tight. We've got to get her out!" Zuma explained to the rest of the team.

"We can use the sub's arm to pull the beam away from the door!" Ryder proposed.

"Great idea!" Rubble cheered.

The submarine arm extended, and grabbed the broken off mast before moving it off. The cliff that the ship was sitting on started to shift and rumble. "Zuma, Skye, Ben, try the door now!" Ryder ordered. The three of them attempted to pry the entrance open to no avail. "When the beam fell, it must have jammed the door shut! The ship's going to fall!" Ryder worriedly said.

The merpup mother swam to the surface where Rocky was sitting in a swimming raft, while Ben swam back a little bit. "It's time to try a little bit of meteor power! Skye, Zuma, you two swim in and get the merpup baby on my signal!" Ben roared, spinning around like a torpedo and slamming his body into the door, causing it to burst open. "NOW!" Ben directed. Zuma and Skye dove into the ship room, and started searching for the merpup.

Meanwhile, at the surface, the merpup came up and barked at Rocky. "You need me to help? I don't like getting wet, but I've dreamed of being a merpup, and if your kid needs my help, I'll be glad to give it!" Rocky answered.

Smiling thankfully, the merpup bumped her nose against Rocky's, and the recycling pup gained a fish tail and gills. He dove down to the ocean floor, and saw something glowing at the bottom. Diving away from the shipwreck, he dove deeper and deeper until he was at the bottom, where there was a black and orange glowing stone. It was a shard from the Mighty Meteor! It must have fallen off when the meteor flew over the ocean while it traveled to Adventure Bay! And the ocean must have caused this piece to cool off so it didn't burn up as it fell to the ground!

Back at the ship, Zuma and Skye comforted the merpup, and soothed it, convincing it to return to the mom. Skye carried the baby out in her arms, and Zuma was about to get out when debris began to crumble and trapped him inside the ship, pinning his tail under a piece of wood. "OH NO!" Ben cried out.

A group of whales swam by, and one of them bumped the ship, causing it to slide completely off of the cliff and to the bottom of the ocean. Rocky saw this and his eyes widened. "If we can't get him out of that wrecked relic before the full moon is over the flagstaff, then he'll turn back into his regular puppy self!" Captain Turbot shouted out over the communications.

Rocky would have paled if he could. The full moon was already close to that position in the sky! With all his strength, he picked up the meteor shard and felt the energy surge through him, placing the shard in his new pup tag before swimming off to the shipwreck. "Green means glow! The Creative Genius, Mighty Pup Green!" Rocky howled.

Back at the ship, minutes passed as Zuma tried to get himself free, while Ben pummeled his fists into the ship, attempting to open a path to Zuma. Skye gasped as she felt the merpup magic start to fade. "RYDER, THE MERPUP MAGIC IS WEARING OFF! I have to surface!" Skye screamed to the group, shedding a tear as she started to ascend to the surface as she felt her hindquarters begin to morph.

Zuma's lungs started to burn as he felt his fish tail and gills vanish, needing air soon. "No, no, no! Come on!" Ben snarled as he punched the ship again, prying off another floorboard in desperation.

Suddenly, a massive green hammer came down on the ship, breaking the roof to smithereens and exposing the section that Zuma was trapped in. "Wocky!?" Zuma asked, before shutting his mouth as water flooded into his lungs. The green wearing pup wrapped his paws around Zuma before concentrating, a rocket ship encasing the two of them and flying them up to the surface. The two merpups followed them as Ben swam after the group. Zuma accidentally inhaled another breath of seawater, and Rocky flew out of the ocean with Zuma in his arms, setting his brother down on the life raft that he had sailed to this point on.

Zuma coughed and sputtered, hacking up the seawater that had gotten in his lungs. Rocky patted Zuma on the back.

"Zuma, are you okay?" Rocky whimpered.

Zuma gagged and barfed as he retched up more of the ocean. "I… bleh! Will… ack! Be… ahem! Wocky…" Zuma wheezed, sputtering out more water and sucking in large quantities of air.

"Zuma, you're okay! ZUMA!" Rocky sobbed, crying happily as he buried his head in the chocolate Labrador's fur. Zuma chuckled weakly. "Wocky… I finally get it now. I weally undewstand." Zuma giggled.

Rocky pulled his head back from Zuma and gazed into the eyes of his brother. "Understand what Zuma?" Rocky questioned.

"Why you're… afwaid of the water. It's tewwifying. Your lungs buwn and your body instinctively bweathes in… getting more water in your lungs… I was so scared." Zuma softly said.

"I'll brave the water and get wet any day for you and the rest of my family!" Rocky boldly stated as he hugged Zuma tightly. The entire Paw Patrol got back to the surface and cheered at Rocky and Zuma embracing. Ben smiled and was about to start heading back to the shore when the merpups started to circle around him. They had the look of recognition in their eyes, as if they had seen Ben before. This wasn't the mother merpup and her baby either. It was a group of older looking male merpups.

"Ben, are you coming back to shore with us?" Ryder asked as he put Zuma's submarine back into hovercraft mode. "I'll be with you guys soon! I think these merpups want to show me something. I still have five or so hours of oxygen left in my tank." Ben told the rest of the group. Nodding, Captain Turbot took Chase and Marshall back to shore, while Ryder, Rubble, and Zuma followed in the hovercraft. Skye and Rocky paddled back to the beach on the life raft as the merpups grabbed Ben and pulled him under.

As they traveled through the ocean, Ben noticed a bunch of undersea buildings that were lit up, and there appeared to be windows. He could swear he saw Carter Grayson in one of those windows as he and the merpups passed by this aquatic base. Looking at his GPS, he saw that they were approaching the shore of Angel Grove, a town that was a few hours of driving away from Adventure Bay.

The singing of the merpups brought Ben out of his stupor. They pointed at a large silhouette in the distance… almost as if they were pointing him to something. Swimming forwards, Ben gasped as the shape became more defined and clear to him. He had seen this in news report footage that was on Youtube, but never before did he ever think that he would come face to face with the real relic.

There was footage captured by Angel Grove's news stations of mechas battling giant monsters, with one of these mechs being an anthropomorphic dragon in a similar vein to Mechagodzilla. And this mech was standing right before Ben! Perhaps the merpups had brought him here because he was donning the visage and suit of Angel Grove's Mighty Morphin Green Ranger? Whatever the reason… he needed to figure out a way to bring this mech back to Adventure Bay. He knew Harold would return, and they could use a mech to fight against Harold's own. "Okay, take me home, merpups." Ben told the undersea canines, and they bobbed their heads up and down before grabbing hold of Ben and pushing him back to Adventure Bay.

When Ben walked out of the ocean and back onto the campsite of their beach, the sun was beginning to rise. Ben sighed as he stumbled onto the shore, removing his Ranger armor and lying down on a towel. Today had been one of their greatest adventures yet… he would figure out how to get that Dragonzord out of the ocean later. For now… he was content with resting and catching up on sleep.

Aqua Pups just came out, coincidentally. This is the perfect time to upload this!

For your information: yes, Coral will appear in this story, but not for quite a while. We've got a long ways to go before we even get to the Sea Patrol stuff!
