Chapter 2-Memories

She Awoke to the destruction and screaming of the night, the Raid had began. Deadly dragons flying through they air causing mayhem and destruction through out the village. Gronkles ramming into huts destroying anything in their path, Monsterus Nightmares lighting buildings on fire with their Flaming burning skin, deadly nadder spikes flying through the air piercing anything in their path, and the dark green clouds of zippleback gas stenching the fields to anyone else this would be hel, to berkians well its was a avergae night.

Astrid limped over to the small closet and snapped on her Kranson and strapped her to her back axe and lugged herself out of the hut and into the chaos.

She witnessed a Deadly Nater grab a sheep and try to escape into the skies with their loot but Stoick "The Vast" Haddock, our chief, took it out of the skies with one bola wrapping around the beasts wings and it collapsed to the ground with a loud thud as a white sheep rolled from out of its claws and went back to grazing casually

"What are you doing out here?!"- She heard a loud voice with a hint of a growl in their tone behind her, it was nasty Soon to be "Husband" standing next to a limp gronkle weilding his war hammer over his shoulder

"Fighting dragons, like a real Viking!"- she hissed back at the man with a tone she knew she had a feeling would regret later

"Shouldn't you be off hiding in the house?! You are no warrior any longer you're a wife and you wont die here so go BACK INSIDE!"- he blared as he took a few steps forward-"you know what will happen if you don't"-he hissed at her and gestured to her knee she scowled at him and atempted to limp back up the hill

"NIGHT FURRY! GET DOWN!"-her defeated face jolted to the air as she heard the high-pitched wailing slice through the air and saw a purple blast of destruction blow straight into a pack of Gronkles that were attacking a hut as it whipped past her back into the depths of the night sky as she awed at destructive beast.

The Night Furry is a mysterious dragon that no one has ever seen up close, the combination of Lighting and Death itself even though the beast tries has its weird ways it has never stolen any food nor attacked a hut only at the defenses of berk as she could hear the death defying sound whipping through the air for another round she ducked under a cart of fish as she another perfectly laid blast blowing up a entire watch tower as it disappeared into the night

She laid there under the cart determining if she should just let it kill her she felt as if she had nothing left anyways, maybe she could see her family in Valhalla once more and finally get away from her nasty husband she was drunken by sleep and pain from all around her body but she knew she had to get up and keep fighting to end this war, then maybe she can finally rest she heard heavy footsteps as she got out from beneath her hiding spot

"There ya are lass!"-The man yelled in desperation, it was Sven he was our Shepard of sorts not a good one but our only one on the island-"My prized sheep was frightened when I was attacked out in the fields"-"Are you ok?"-She interrupted-"Oi ya im fine but he ran off into the forest!"-Knowing how much these sheep meant to him as if they were his sons she decided to go after it maybe get away from the Raid and husband-"all right look Sven go back inside ill go find him ok?"-"Oh thank Thor!"-he ran off back into the fray to find shelter while she put her axe on her back and trudged into the woods that would soon change her life

She walked around the woods with her axe in tow but not really on high alert she looked up at the tall trees that she spent most of her youth climbing and playing around she saw the rocks she would jump across and throw round she began to walk deeper and deeper as she noticed some downed trees and started towards them not really worried as she knew were she was she began to hear her memories fade in as she saw it, the place she spent her most of her time and youth years "Ravens point..."- she whispered it into the wind she walked deeper into the crevasse as she Traced her hands over the hard rock walls and felt it all come flooding back, the laughs, the voices of adventure and whimsy flowing through the air, she stared in awe at the tree that stood there for years holding up against the elements always with green leaves no matter the season she slowly and wearily limped up the large trunk it scared her to face the past as she traced the carving she once mad there all those years ago "A+H" she could feel the one tear slid down her bruised cheek as it all began to come back to her...

"Hiccup...?"

"why didn't you do it?"-a young Astrid stated in a soft voice looking at the young boy, said boy was very small and skinny as compared to any kid on berk compared to any Viking really, yes he was small but he very smart and talented at many things. The boys name was Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the III the son of Stoick The Vast the chief of berk.. his home wasn't the same compared to hers she grew up with 2 loving parents telling her she could grow to be what ever she wanted in life.. She still laughs back thinking about her life now.. Hiccup how ever was different he was raised with no Mother and a Father who barely gave him the time of day as he was considered a runt in his family the "Hiccup". He was small and couldn't wield a sword for the life of him but he had many other talents compared to his best and only friend Astrid...he was a social outcast with a father who didn't care if he was eaten by a pack terrible terror's no one would bat a eye, so he spent most of his time in the woods when he was younger sketching or even just laying in the sun and Astrid would meet up with him as she would play Vikings and dragons with him or watch him draw as she would lay her head on his lap...they were great friends but one day it all came crashing down..

"answer me hiccup why...why didn't you kill it"- she was concerned as she watched the auburn haired boy stare into then green grass with defeat and worry in his eyes

"i..i just couldn't Ast...i I don't know why ive wanted to kill dragons my whole life..."- he paused trying to choke out a answer but he just had nothing to say-"but I couldn't..."

She stared at the defeated boy, her friend she knew it hurt but she also knew if he couldn't kill a dragon well...he wasn't going to be in the tribe for much longer.."hiccup...you know if..when your father finds out...he wont be happy"-her azure eyes burned into the side of his skull as he was hit with a wave of fear

"then that's it...i guess everyone will get what they wanted...no more runt...no more "hiccup"-she was surprised to hear him say those words, yes he may not have been able to do much, hel he almost destroyed the village every other week but he was a very determined Viking just like his father he never gave up...stuborn really, but seeing him like this, the one she saw grow and fight off every insult or attack that a Viking or dragon would land on him even battered and bruised he still would get up and keep going but she saw the defeat in his emerald eyes...he was done

She slowly curled up and laid her head on his lap felling the warmth flow through her as he didn't move from his trans like state he stayed there like a corpse, a shell of his formal self as she closed her eyes she was brought back to the present her body feeling that same warmth that he gave off that very same day as she laid against him..

-Present-

She awoke back in the present her hand still laid on the small "H" carved into the bark of the old tree

As she finally was waking from her memories she could feel all the tears fall uncontrollably no sobs, no whimpers just tears and pain...as she came back she rubbed out the tears and walked away from the tree, from her past, as she left the whole in the ground and was back in the woods she heard a scared bleat from deeper into the woods, Her neck snaped into position from the way the sound came as she tried to run and forgetting her injured knee she fell over though it didn't matter she was a Hofferson they weren't scared of anything they were brave and were warriors she jumped up and limped to the sound as she thee sheep grazing under some trees peacefully she sighed as she grabbed the giant ball of soft dark wool and started the journey back when she heard a thud behind her

She turned to a dark shadow in the night large and she could see the small outline of its features the scales... the horns, and giant tail as it lit up the night the giant Mounsterus Nightmare could be seen in all its fiery glory roaring at the girl and was kneeled down to evade the incoming doom the dragon charged up and she closed her eyes and she heard the same wailing through the night as then a blast that sent waves through the forest

Barely conscious she could hear a giant thud on the ground as well as hands being wrapped around her and being lifted off the ground almost feeling weightless then she was laid on a hard scaly surface and could feel the air against her face before darkness consumed her vision falling unconcise

Her eyes fluttered open towards some planks on the ceiling as finally the memory from the night before settled in as she jolted up from the realization this wasn't her bed she looked around the small hut with the tiniest of fire places with a pot boiling over it and a small trunk nestled in the corner of the room she stared in awe of the place even though small it gave her a nice cozy feeling deep in her chest. She finally felt the pain in her head as when she went to feel it there where bandages covering the pained area, she kept looking around with no sight of human life no nasty Snotlout no smell of mead in her face just the pine wood that was surrounding her. She heard a thud and warble of a dragon she jumped into a defensive position on the bed and when the door finally open she was about to accept her fate..

"your up early milady"- a muffled voice that sent shivers down her spine said softly as she opened her eyes to see a tall lean man in armor standing at the foot of the bed she stared confused as she knew she heard a dragon just beyond that door

"what? Who-Who are you?"- she gasped out as she stared at the figure who stood Infront of her, the man was very tall and was wearing special armor that she had never seen before with symbols and scales all over it with a special helmet with horns all over the top

"answer me"-she stated again to see if he would answer

"your hurt"-he stated softly and he began to walk closer to the side of the bed

Astrid started scoot away from him and attempt to get away flinging the cover off and seeing about to get off the bed before she collapsed to the ground as she saw her knee had a stick holding it in place

"di-did you?" she looked up at the man fearfully

He nodded slowly and walked closer to her before she closed her eyes and felt him lifter up back to the hard wooded bed her eyes fluttered back open as could feel the warmth radiating of him it felt very calming almost familiar, even through the armor she could feel it washing over her

"What were u doing in the woods-alone?"- he stated calmly and tonelessly snapping Astrid out of her trance she shrugged slowly in response "i-its all a blur, n-now who are u? Why would u-u help me" the man stared at her not being able to see his expression she couldn't tell, he said nothing and shook his head as he walked over to the pot before pouring some the contents into a small cup and setting it next to the bed

"drink up it will help with the pain" she look wearily at the drink not knowing what to do or even how to respond she smelt the contents and took the smallest of sips from the hot beverage tasting herbs and honey with a small tangy after taste as she glared at the man, she set it back down and refused the beverage as she kept her eyes on him again she asked who he was with no answer he just knelt against the side of the bed waiting for her to drink.

"what do you want with me?" she said hastily "using me as ransom for my husband The heir to the throne of berk to come get his beloved wife?" she growled hating that she acknowledging him as her husband. The man sat in silence and turned his head confused and she could hear a muffled chuckle behind the mask "wha-whats so funny!?" she stated angrily

He finally spoke-"man they were that desperate to replace me huh?" he asked with amusement in his tone. She gave a confused look as she was blown away by the statement but he continued-"the runt wasn't good enough so they gave it to Snot? Wow dad really was desperate" he said still chuckling

She was still confused till finally she understood" dad..."she mumbled-"hiccup..?" she said wearily hating the feelings that name made her feel

He slowly brought his hands up behind his mask and she could hear the faint unbuckling of the old leather straps as she saw it fall and seen bright green emerald eyes behind the long dark auburn hair, it was him.. The lost son, the former heir...Hiccup..she stared struck with many feelings that rolled over her, hate, sorrow, confusion and more important content be the surprise of the man she threw her arms around him and her face to his chest

"not expecting how you would react"- he mumbled his mouth nuzzled against her long and soft golden hair. he laid his hand on her back and held her softly when he felt wet tears falling down his armor feel her shake and sob. She grabbed on to him tightly making sure she had him close. she didn't think she would react this way either but all the pain from the past 5 years was built up and she needed this

"Sh-shut up.."- she choked out between sobs and nuzzling his neck. They laid there against the bed for a while her just enjoying the company by that point no sobs just tears streaming down her face, she couldn't tell if they were happy or sad tears but she didn't care she only cared that he was there, no words were said just shaky breathes and sighs of relief that's when her brain begand to work and she had to know

"wh-where have u been...we all thought u were long gone or even worse...dead..."-she held him tighter at those last words

"ive been here the entire time...on the island..."he said in a sad and disappointing tone he nuzzled her hair against his cheek "ive been during the raids...during snoggletog...every year watching over the mountain" she could hear the hurt in his voice.

"why didn't you come back..."-"i wasn't allowed to...i was exiled...by my father.." she looked up and could see the same hurt she saw all those years ago but now it was a bit different she finally got a good look at the young mans face it was dirty and scruffy his hair longer then it once was his eyes dull and sadden but still that bright emerald green she always loved but with one giant scar across his face cutting right through his brow and eye lid

"so you've been here...alone..?" he shook his head slowly closing his eyes in disappointment she held him tighter and put her face back in his neck give a shaky breathe-"look its been a long day...u need rest and I have some things to tend to..." he stated painfully she looked up and saw the pain on his face and shook her head slowly. He lifted her up with ease and laid her softly on the bed as covered her up with furs. "rest up and drink some more of that tea" he gave her a kiss on her forehead and grabbed his mask before walking out the door in to the bright berk sun.
