They made their way back to the open field they had been at the previous night. It was a little awkward walking around nude together but Hayley tried to brush it off.
Next to their clothing that was scattered and torn on the ground, were two pairs of clean clothing sitting on a rock. Klaus suspected it might have been left by Davina. He started reaching for the pair of mens pants. Hayley however searched for her phone in the tall grass. Once she found it she quickly opened up her messages. She felt a wave of relief wash over her seeing her daughter's name. "I got a text from Hope"
They didn't see her on their way back, she was happy she was safe.
"So she's already transformed back then?" He asked while pulling on his shirt, noticing her clothes weren't here. To be honest he's a little glad that's how it worked out. The situation would have been a lot more awkward if they found her.
"She's at the compound." Hayley knitted her brows. "She sent me this yesterday " Klaus parted his mouth. Hayley looked right back at him, confusion painted on their faces.
They made it back shortly. In fact, their whole family was waiting to greet them in the main arena of the compound. All sitting around the couches, smug smiles on all their faces.
"Yeah, this isn't weird" Hayley mumbled while crossing her arms. Hope noticed her mother and came over to hug her mother. She smiled, welcoming the embrace before proceeding to run her fingers through her daughter's hair. T
hen Rebekah, while holding a drink, said. "Welcome back you too"
"It took them long enough," Kol laughed, sitting on the arm of a chair. Elijah tried to hide his smile as well while taking a sip of his scotch.
"I don't understand?" Hayley looked around the room, her daughter pulling back from the hug.
Hope smiled while looking at both parents. She widened her eyes."You guys were out there for three days" They both turned to look at eachother, star struck on both their faces.
"Well," Klaus said nonchalantly, clearly trying to downplay it. "I guess that explains why I'm a bit peckish"
Hayley did the opposite of that. She furrowed her brows in confusion. Three days. Three days they were out there..doing what? She felt starving so she assumed they didn't hunt. Memories were hard to pinpoint when in wolf form. The most one could remember were feelings. And all she can recall is pure bliss.
"Well, I guess I had to make up for lost time" Hayley finally said, realizing she was lost in thought for far too long. She kissed her daughter's head. "I'm going to take a shower"
The shower faucet creaked, she sighed feeling the warm water pour down onto her skin. She pulled her hair out of her face. Leaning against the wall of the shower, closing her eyes and just trying to remember. Fuzzy pictures wormed their way into her memory. Little snapshots of those three days. She remembered feeling safe, warm, and strong. Hayley heard her door creak open.
She turned the water off and wrapped a towel around her body. She stood still, watching Klaus close the door, only when he approached her did she notice he was holding a clean pair of clothes for her. He kept a hefty distance between them, then placed the clothes on her bed "Figured you'd want some clothes"
"Yes, thank you" Hayley said, even if she had a full drawer of clothing, although she assumed there was more to his visit than that.
He pursed his lips, rubbing his thumb against his index finger mercilessly. "Thank you" she muttered.
"You already said that" He replied instinctively.
Hayley gnawed on the inside of her cheek. She rubbed the back of her neck. "Not for the clothes, Klaus" He tried to avoid gawking at her body-hidden beneath a mere towel. The water droplets slid down her flawless skin, her wet hair shaped her beautiful skull. Bringing more definition to her perfect place. He dipped his chin in acknowledgement (although, he only did it to make himself stop staring at her, trying not to make himself look like a perv) and shrugging his shoulders. He should leave, he's done his deed. He doesn't have a reason to stay any longer…
But he didn't leave.
Hayley's gaze softened, parting her mouth by a hair. Words stuck on her tongue. "Was…was there something else you wanted to discuss?"
"I.." Her eyes looked into his eyes so softly. He could see all the devotion, the love. He knew she'd do anything for him, just as he would her. It made him speechless. He's never felt like that before, but perhaps he doesn't need words. "No," he lied, licking his lips, eyes flickering between her and the floor. "No, that's it.." There was an uncomfortable tightening in his chest when the words left his mouth.
She felt herself shrug. He rubbed his hands together. Feeling the need to fill the silence. "Well, you should have no problem being accepted back into your pack" he randomly alleged.
Two years ago, the thought of that would have been joyous. They were her people, a part of her identity, and after the hollow the three clans were almost-if not more-divided than when Marcel was running the city. So, when they heard her wolf side was repressed-against her will or not-they didn't accept her. (giving them yet another reason to hate the vampires)
It took all of her persuasion to get Klaus not to head down to the Bayou and not slaughter the lot of them. Even with the Mikaelsons love she still felt..alone. A pack was supposed to make you feel cared for, love you, make you feel safe and secure.
Now though?
She still felt that feeling, the only difference is it has been accomplished all by one man.
Klaus had been there with her every step of the way, he supported her, comforted her. He helped her feel whole again. Made her feel less alone. She dug her fingers into the crest of her hands, putting on a wooden smile. "Yeah, I guess so" She'll always be there for the crescent wolves, but she doesn't feel like that's her home anymore.
Klaus pulled his arms behind himself, kissing his teeth. "Well, I'm going to go.." He looked at her tenderly. He looked like he wanted to say something, but he bit his tongue. A pointless sentiment as he thought it. After a few seconds of silence he left. Hayley stood, looking at the door close.
Later that day, the Mikaleson's were gathered into the kitchen, after all it was a time of celebration. Kol popped the champagne, quark narrowly escaping Klaus' face. "I don't know about the rest of you," Freya patted her hands on the island in the middle of the kitchen. "But I could go for some beignets."
"I won't argue that," Hope said with a smile, grabbing a glass of champagne, intending to drink it, before she could Klaus took it from her, taking a sip himself. He tried not to spit his drink in laughter at the scowl she gave him.
"There's a bakery not too far away" Rebekah chipped in, looking at her phone.
"Oh sister, you can't get beignets from some measly shop" Kol scrunched up nose.
"Then where the bloody hell are we going to get it?" Rebekah argued.
"We'll make some ourselves" he said as if it were obvious.
"Do you even know how to fry an egg?" Hayley crossed her arms, raising her brows. Creating laughter amongst the group.
"This kitchen could get some action," Elijah smirked.
"Well, darling, this is for you after all," Kol smiled. "What will it be?" Hayley smiled, glancing around the room. This really was her family. She shook her head with a snort. "Let's get a cookbook"
"1 and 1/2 cups of warm water, between 110 and 115 degrees (F)" Kol repeated from the book. Elijah turned on the sink faucet, holding a cup underneath it. "Oh, one cup of evaporated milk"
Klaus looked over his shoulder at his brother, fridge open. "Does just milk suffice?"
Kol shrugged his shoulders. "I don't see why not" They started to pour the warm water, sugar, and yeast into the bowel. Hope then began to whisk it.
"Can't we just use magic?" She frowned, her hand was beginning to cramp.
"Nonsense, If we're going to do this, we'll do it correctly" Elijah replied.
"Okay, I'm back" Rebekah announced, walking back into the kitchen. "They didn't have any peanut oil, but I found olive oil" Kol sighed and bowed his head.
"Sister, the recipe specifically calls for peanut oil, not olive oil. Do you want our beignets tasting like olives?"
"They're not going to-" She bit her lip. "Well, we'll have to make do" She pulled her hair into a bun. Then began reaching for the eggs. Until Kol slapped her hand away with a spatula.
"What the blood hell was that for!?"
"Sister, you did not just touch your hair then start to reach for the food ."
"For christ's sake" Klaus whispered under his breath, trying not to laugh.
"You know what Kol, I'm beginning to have it with you high and mighty attitude" Kol scoffed sarcastically.
"I'm just trying to make sure our dessert is the best it can possibly be, no room for error"
"Who are you? Bloody Gordon Ramsey?!"
"Oh, you-" Elijah then stepped in.
"Brother, sister. Why don't you head down back to the grocery store and continue your search for..peanut oil" Their family had fought over a lot of things. But peanut oil was a new one. Kol and Rebekah begrudgingly agreed, once they walked out the door, Hope began to follow.
"I'll tag along as a mediator" Elijah mouthed the words 'thank you' While Elijah was busy, Freya whispered.
"You know..I might have a spell to try and…save the taste of the beignets" Hayley nodded vigorously while setting down the vanilla extract. Freya smirked, while sneaking away. When Elijah walked back into the kitchen, he noticed the absence of their oldest sibling.
"Where's Freya?" Klaus and Hayley were silent. He licked his lips. "She's looking for a spell isn't she?" He shook his head while storming after her.
Klaus let out a chuckle, shaking his head and Hayley rubbed her forehead, trying not to laugh. "I just want to apologies in advance for how terrible the beignets will taste"
Hayley smiled. "Don't be, this is way more fun than just buying a box. And our family could use some laughter"
Klaus didn't miss the way she said our family. That started an avalanche of possibilities in his mind like the one he had when he removed the daylight ring from her finger, thinking about how her name would sound if her surname was Mikaelson.
Hayley. Hayley Mikaelson.
He was almost embarrassed by how much he liked the sound of that. It sounded perfect, it sounded meant to be.
How different would life have been if me and Hayley were romantically involved?
He shook that thought away. It was a foolish fantasy.
He noticed that the bowel that Hope was whisking, still wasn't bubbling (which the recipe called for) probably because she never finished it. He and Hayley seemed to have the same idea, because they both reached for the whisk on the side of the bowel at the same time.
They both quickly lurched away when their fingers brushed. Eyes shooting to each other. Hayley felt her face get red and his mouth was open and moved slightly, as if he was trying to speak, but in too much shock to do so. She'd never thought she'd see Klaus Mikaleson flustered.
Is that what he is? Flustered?
A flurry of emotions bubbled at that thought. She glanced at his lips before back at his eyes, her mouth parted. They slowly felt themselves drawn closer and closer to each other. She closed her eyes when she felt the first press of his lips.
She drew a shaky exhale. Klaus pulled back slightly. "Hayley?" he asked hesitantly. She opened her eyes to him. Seeing his concerned expression. This wasn't the first kiss they've shared, but it felt so much more intimate, so much more scary . She knew this was him giving her the option to opt out. Not to get caught up in the simplistic human urges, but what she felt was so much stronger than just that. She could only hope he felt the same way.
She reached out and gripped the back of his hair. Gulping while they rested their foreheads together. "I don't just want sex" she whispered, almost afraid, afraid of his response.
At first when she heard him sigh it sparked a fear in her, that pleasure was all he was looking for, but then he leaned closer and kissed her forehead, lips lingering before looking back at her. "Me neither"
Those words gave her a reality check. She was here, standing in the kitchen with Klaus Mikaelson only a couple inches away from her. They once hated each other, now they were on the cuffs of something beautiful. And he just confirmed he wanted it too.
What a wonderful and terrifying revelation.
With this knowledge, she couldn't hold it back any longer. "Kiss-me" she breathed, searching between his eyes, almost desperately. His face eased up, looking relieved, before grabbing her shoulders and pulling her towards him. She kissed him back, pressing herself up against him. Wishing to dissolve even the tiniest of space between them.
Before long, she felt his warm tongue slip into her mouth. She muffled a moan. Their kisses were rough, demanding, but yet felt so sweet. It was then that she realized he was wearing far too many clothes. She broke the kiss to grab his shirt. Desperate for more, he started to kiss down her neck and collar bone. It wasn't until she had his shirt up to his sternum did he realize what she was doing, he quickly obliged to her wishes, lifting his arms above his head to help her take it off, throwing the shirt to the side. She let her hands trail over his body, running her fingers across his feather tattoo.
Feeling him shiver next to her. He grabbed her face with both hands and pulled her close to kiss. Fisting the hair at the back of her head. "You have too many clothes," he whispered against her mouth, self control starting to slip.
She smirked. Face red and flushed. "So, what are you going to do about it?" She saw the desire and lust grow, his pupils now dilated. Seeing his slightly bruised lips quirk upward made her want to kiss him again.
Before she could though, they heard a cough. They turned around to see Elijah and Freya standing in the doorway. Not even looking shocked to see the mother of their niece and brother-half naked.
"When I said the kitchen needed action, this isn't what I meant" He smirked. Hayley groaned while placing her face in the palms of her hands.
I can't stop. This was supposed to be a one shot.
Also "Friends don't" by Maddie and Tae gave me a lot of inspiration for the chapter. Istg it fits them so well imo
