Evening
"Elena, it's getting late. Did you call Ric and Jenna?" Jeremy asked with concern. He hated to see his sister looking so upset, but she was doing better than Tyler.
"Yeah, they said I could stay over," Elena mumbled. "I can't leave Tyler like this. He's a mess."
They were whispering the short hallway leading to the containment cell that Caroline was in.
Tyler was on the other side of the glass, sitting with his head on his knees.
Freya came in.
"Hey kids, why don't you two go up and take a break. Bonnie called and we're going to try a new spell tomorrow," Freya informed them. "I'll see if I can get Tyler to get some rest..."
Elena mumbled, "Good luck with that. If we thought Caroline was stubborn, that's nothing next to Tyler. He's always been like this."
Freya smiled and patted Elena on the shoulder.
"I get it, hon," Freya said. "Um, can you stick around, though? Our spell might need some of your doppelgänger blood."
Elena smiled, "Of course. It's not a problem. I'm going to crash here tonight."
"Perfect," Freya commented. "The guest room off the kitchen is available. Vanessa changed the sheets and towels. You rest."
The Gilbert siblings cast one last look at Tyler and left.
Freya made her way over to where Tyler was slumped. Caroline was still in the magical sleep.
"Tyler, she's not going anywhere. How about you head up to bed? Bonnie and I are going to try something tomorrow to get her to flip on her humanity. There's nothing you can do from here," Freya said gently.
Tyler looked up at his aunt with bloodshot eyes.
"Sorry, Aunt Freya, but I'm not budging," Tyler said firmly.
"At least pull the cot over," Freya urged. "Will you do that for me?"
Tyler nodded and got up and easily lifted the metal cot. They had used this when Caroline first turned and they had her holed up here. Tyler never thought they would be back here again.
"I know you, um, put her to sleep, but is she suffering?" Tyler asked in a low voice.
Freya sat down on the cot and patted the other side.
"Oh no, sweetie. She's sleeping. Her body is hungry. Bonnie and I are going to try a sleep tomorrow, but it won't work unless she is weakened. How are you holding up?" Freya asked gently.
Tyler started to say he was fine, then his hand snaked to his neck. It was no longer sore, but the memory was still fresh. "I'm not fine. She snapped my neck. I didn't even see it coming. None of this really."
"I bet," Freya said. "Magic is a wild thing from the Earth. There were times I created storms on sunny days and fires on the lake. Before we can get a hold of it, it has a hold on us. You know, this isn't Caroline. I know the highs and lows are said to be more intense for vampires, but for teenage witches, they can also be dangerous."
"Uncle Kol told me that. But it just went bad so fast. How come I didn't see it?" Tyler asked, watching Caroline sleep on her cot, behind the glass.
"Because we can't. Sometimes our minds trick us. We often only see what we want to," Freya said. "I may not have lived as many years, awake anyway, as my siblings. But I think we can agree that the only thing you can do, is learn from things. Then, move on."
Tyler smiled a little. "Yeah, Dad says that, too. Hey, maybe I will go up and take a shower. You'll stay with her a while?"
"Sure, you go," Freya replied. "I'll stay until you get back. Take your time."
Tyler thanked his aunt and then left Freya to her thoughts. She realized that it was easier to give advice than take it.
Younger Girls' Room
Bedtime
"Aunt Keelin said your apology notes to Aaron and Silas were very nice," Klaus intoned. "Your mother was pleased."
Penny was in bed and Klaus had been reading her the Grimm's version of Snow White, her favorite.
Penny smiled, "I put stickers on my note. Silas said it was pretty. He's not mad, Daddy. Not anymore."
Keelin had Liv and Danny and a few of the other kids finishing up a movie in her bedroom. Penny had helped Cami bathe Ansel and Klaus said he'd put her to bed.
"I'm glad to hear it. Now, I don't want to hear anymore of these pranks and tricks. Aaron and Silas as guests in our home and should be treated with courtesy," Klaus started. "When I was a boy, we believed that from time to time the gods would visit people in human form."
"The gods you told me about? Like Thor!" Penny giggled. "Did he stay over night?"
"I suppose we'll never really know," Klaus smiled, brushing back his daughter's black hair from her face. "But any stranger could have been a god visiting Earth so we had to be very kind to them. We didn't want to bring the wrath of the divines down upon our home. My father's wrath was enough for me as is. Now, are you getting along with the other children?"
Penny made a face. "Yes, I am. Finn gave me a cupcake out of his lunch on the bus because I was hungry...Oh, but Erik called me annoying when I said he had girl hair. But Dad, doesn't he? It's so long he can put it in a pony tail now."
"Not all boys have short hair and not all woman have long hair," Klaus explained. "But I think your brother was just teasing. Have you spent anytime with Erik and Connor? You know they had tried to make time for you."
"Connor said he'd take me to the Grill, just us," Penny shared. "But Matt actually did take me and Liv after school yesterday. He let us..."
"What, dear? You can tell me. Did you get ice cream?" Klaus asked, tickling her.
"No, um, soda," Penny admitted, licking her red lips. "But just Sprite, I swear."
Klaus knew she used a little tube of strawberry lip gloss. He could smell it.
"That's fine, luv," Klaus smiled. "Your brothers are all good lads, but I don't want you to forget that you share blood with Connor and Erik. That is something special the three of you have."
"I know," Penny said. "But Connor looks sad when he talks about it. He says things were bad for them, but how could they have been? Erik came here with Sadie! I don't even have my own dog."
"Having a dog like Sadie is lovely," Klaus agree. "But I don't think Connor wants to burden you with their past. Someday, we'll sit down and speak of all of it so you can share it with your children."
"But they will have a bunch of uncles, right? Even Ansel, even though he is a baby now, will be an uncle to my kids," Penny clarified with a furrow in her pale brow.
"Yes, but in many years, my child," Klaus said, kissing her forehead. "Don't grow up too quickly. Even though you all used those dolls to torture your cousin, I am glad that you still play with them. And don't tease Erik about his hair. He gets enough ribbing from the other boys about it."
"Fine, I won't," Penny vowed. "But Dad, can I get a puppy of my own? I mean, if I am good?"
Klaus looked at the clock. "Oh my, I need to see to Tyler. Ah, we'll speak of that later. You can read on your own. I'm sure the others will be down soon."
"Thanks, Daddy. Rosie and Lukas want another dog, too. Because Sadie is the only one here and she could get lonely," Penny said, opening her book. She liked to look at the pictures.
Klaus grinned, "There is no room to get lonely in this house. Sleep well, my princess."

Mikaelson Mansion
Pool Area
"Oh good, Bonnie, you're here," Jo said, opening the front door.
"Yeah, is Elena up yet?" Bonnie asked, looking around. "I hope she wasn't up all night with Tyler."
"Um, I think she's in the kitchen. We needed her blood for the spell so that's a great way to wake up. Caroline is still in the sleeping spell. Come down to the lab, Mom is down there with the twins," Jo coaxed. "Oh, hi, Ric!"
Ric switched his leather satchel from shoulder to shoulder.
"Hey Jo, is Klaus or Elijah around? I wanted to run something by them," Ric asked.
"Ah, I think Uncle Elijah went to the Grill and Uncle Klaus is still upstairs. Uncle Kol is out by the pool, though," Jo called as she and Bonnie went to work on the spell with Freya.
"Nice. I'll make my way out there," Ric said. He petted Sadie who ran up to him. "Hey, girl."
Jeremy and Matt were at the kitchen island eating cereal with Finn and Henrik.
"Hey guys, you're up early," Ric commented.
"So are you," Matt said. "Plus, we have promised Tyler we'd do his chores as he's with Caroline."
"How's Tyler holding up?" Ric asked, pausing.
"You know him, Uncle Ric," Jeremy said. "He's being a dick."
Ric grinned, "Better not let your dad hear that. Kol's out at the pool?"
"Yep, too cold for us to swim, but you know Uncle Kol? He likes to show up his stuff in his speedo," Matt snickered.
It was around 70 degrees, but the pool heater was off. Most of the kids considered it too chilly to swim until it was on 90 or above, but Elijah turned it off due to the high cost.
Jeremy rolled his eyes, "He's in normal swim trunks today. I think Kai hid his weird bathing suits, like that lime green one!"
"I can't wait," Ric said, trailing through the doors in the great room that led out to the new pool area.
"Ric? I thought I heard your manly voice," Kol guffawed. "I am sorry I haven't paid you a visit of late, but you are always working."
Ric smirked, "Yeah, that's what us human folk have to do. Work. How's the water?"
Kol was floating on a yellow raft.
"Perfect for me," Kol said. "But even Georgie thinks it is a mite cool. Elijah told me he'd take a stick to me if I touched the heater again. Bloody old man is cheapers, I'll tell you."
"Well, I'd say money doesn't grow on trees, but around here, I'm not so sure," Ric said. "I brought some files on the Order of the Celestial Dawn that Elijah wanted me to look up."
"Oh, blast that," Kol said. "Come, have a drink with me. My boys and Georgie are at Rebekah's place. Did you hear that Klaus' baby mama is there?"
"Baby Mama?" Ric laughed. "I am not sure you want to say that around Klaus. Christ, he must be going soft."
Ric took off his sandals and put his feet in the water.
Kol burst into laughter and flipped into the water, "Perhaps in more ways than one. Maybe that is why he is so tense. New baby...I know a fellow in town...Well, knew."
Kol's face darkened as he thought about his friend, Sharma.
Ric waited as Kol waded over to the stairs of the pool where he was sitting.
"Yeah, I heard there was so trouble in town," Ric noted sadly. "The Martins were our secretary's neighbors. It was terrible. Do you think they can pull Caroline out of this? I don't think Liz Forbes knows what to do...Stefan was beside himself."
"It wasn't his fault. We've all fallen off the wagon a time or two. I was on the rampage for centuries. The girl will be okay," Kol reassured Ric.
"I hope. Caroline's one of my students. I, just, can't see how she is going to be able to deal with this," Ric said honestly. "Stefan said she couldn't even kill an animal."
"One of us could compel her to forget," Kol added. "But that's not the best way to deal with it. Forgetting just lets you go there again. The thirst we feel can make your mind play tricks on you. Plus, if she takes the cure from Penny someday, it will all come back to her. She'll have to face it and try to make amends the best she can."
"That's going to be tough," Ric noted.
Kol nodded and hopped out to get his drink.
"I'll get you a glass," Kol called out, heading to the bar.
"No, water is fine. It's like 8am. I have to get back to the kids. I promised Damon and Stefan we'd go fishing later," Ric shared.
"One drink won't hurt," Kol said, pouring Ric a gin and tonic.
"Look, man, I'm off of the sauce," Ric confessed.
Kol raised an eye brow. "Oh, yeah?"
"Yeah, well, maybe one wouldn't hurt?" Ric said, sighing.
"Nay, I don't want to be an enabler," Kol smirked.
Ric looked around, "Where is everyone?"
"I think Vanessa and Keelin took most of the younger kids to the park," Kol said. "I have a juice box here for you. Nice and warm."
Kol tossed an apple juice at Ric and he caught it.
"Come on, one drink," Ric begged.
"Ask me again and I'm going to think you're overdue for another hiding," Kol warned.
Ric flushed, "That was you being an asshole, Kol. Come on, man."
Kol put down his gin and vamped to Ric.
"I may not be able to get the jump on Niklaus, but Alaric Saltzman, you cannot best me," Kol grinned. He sat down on the pool stairs and wrestled Ric over his lap.
"Jesus, Kol, what the fuck?" Ric yelped. He was soon flat over Kol's wet thighs, getting the back of his shorts and boxers pulled down.
Kol smacked the flat of his hand down on Ric's white cheeks with a crack.
Smack!
"Awwww," Ric hollered. "Kol, this isn't fucking funny!"
Smack! Smack! Smack!
"Not for you, maybe," Kol retorted, swatting Ric's bottom hard.
Smack! Smack! Smack!
Smack! Smack! Smack!
"Stop it!" Ric shouted in horror. The Original vampire was only using a small portion of his strength but Ric's bum was on fire.
"You need cooled down," Kol said with gaiety. He reached down and scooped a few handfuls of pool water on Ric's bottom.
Crack! Crack!
The smacks on Ric's wet seat were intense and Ric kicked out his feet, his right feet in the pool.
Crack! Crack!
"Stop it. I'm going to kill you," Ric warned. "I'm still a vampire hunter at heart!"
Crack! Crack!
"Tell me why you want to quit drinking," Kol prompted.
Crack! Crack!
"No!" Ric screamed. "Stop!"
"The lads are going to hear and come investigate if you don't take your spanking like a big boy," Kol threatened.
Ric sighed and squeezed his eyes shut. This is what he got for giving Bonnie a ride and doing Elijah a favor.
Crack! Crack!
"Because I'm drinking too much," Ric finally confessed. "I started bringing a flask to school!"
Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
Kol finished up with a few more fiery cracks and pulled up Ric's shorts, which had slipped down to near his knees.
"That's serious, mate," Kol said. "You really do need to stop then."
"Let me up," Ric yelled. Before Kol could, Elijah stomped out to the patio
"Kol Mikaelson, what in the devil do you think you're doing to our guest?" Elijah growled.
Kol hastily let Ric up. "Oh, just a bit of fun. Ric here is entering a new phase of sobriety. I was just, ah, counseling him."
Ric's face was beet red and the big man couldn't even look Elijah in the eye as he readjusted his shorts.
"I, ah, b-brought you t-that file, Elijah," Ric said, embarrassed. "I have it right here."
Klaus came out with a bloodbag, "Oh, hi, Ric, thanks for coming."
Elijah turned, "It seems that Kol has taking liberties here with our guest. Ric, can you take your files to my office?"
Ric started to slip on his flip flops.
"Maybe I actually bother those?" Elijah asked archly.
Ric gulped, "Ah, yes, sure. I'll be waiting in your study."
Ric cast a nasty look at Kol who had waded back into the shallow end of the pool.
"Elijah, come now, it was a jest," Kol said. "Ric is a friend. Niklaus, say something."
Elijah vamped to the flip flops and handed one to Klaus.
"I thought you said you gave our little brother some discipline whilst I was gone," Elijah said in a tight voice.
"Apparently, not enough," Klaus muttered. "Out of the pool, Brother."
Kol frowned, "Gentleman, let's not be hasty. Come on..."
"One," Elijah started counted. "Two...I will get my yardstick and thrash you out here if you don't come to us..."
Kol vamped out of the pool and staggered over to Elijah. Elijah clamped down on her arm and shucked off his wet suit trunks to his ankles.
"Step out," Elijah demanded.
Kol whined, "Noooooo, not bare!"
Elijah simply hefted the flip flop and brought it down with a litany of whacks that had Kol hopping in a circle.
Whap. Whap. Whap.
"Owwww, ohhhhh, dammmmnnn, ouch!" Kol grunted as Elijah turned his wet bottom red.
Whap! Whap! Whap! WHAP!
Tear streamed down Kol's face as Elijah pelted his thighs with the rubber shoe.
Whap! Whap! Whap!
"Sorrry! Sorrrrry," Kol yelped. "Oww, Nik, stop him!"
Whap! Whap! Whap!
"Now, I must attend to our friend and guest, Ric. We'll be lucky if he ever comes here to help us again after your antics," Elijah said tersely. "Niklaus, please finish and then send Kol up to gather up the laundry and change the linens. I don't have time today."
Klaus tossed the flip flop up in the air and sat on a lounge chair.
"Come, Kol, over my lap. Unlike Elijah, I don't care if you get my shorts wet. Hurry, before the children get back," Klaus said. As Elijah walked in the house, he was pleased to see Klaus spanking Kol throughly over his lap with the flip flop. Kol's behind was shiny and red. It would teach him how to behave a bit better, he hoped.
Elijah slid shut the door only to find Kai levitating several objects at once. When Kai saw Elijah, they all crashed to the ground.
"What in the world are you doing?" Elijah demanded.
"Oh, Bonnie just taught be a new spell," Kai said. "Is Uncle Kol getting spanked out there?"
"Never you mind that," Elijah snapped. "You will clean all this up before he dog or someone else gets cut!"
"Yeah, in a minute," Kai said, starting to levitate the couch.
"No, now," Elijah said. He pulled Kai off of the chair he was sitting on and bent him over the couch.
"No, God, stop," Kai wailed. Elijah peeled down his sweats and briefs and thwacked his bare bottom ten times with the flip flop.
Whap! Whap!
Whap! Whap!
Whap! Whap!
Whap! Whap!
Whap! Whap!
"Are you ready to do as I asked or do you need to visit my study?" Elijah asked sternly.
"I'll clean it up," Kai promised. "Right now!"
"Good," Elijah said, smacking the slipper against his hand. "Or you will have a very sore bottom today."
Kai sniffed and rubbed his backside a moment before pulling up his pants.
Elijah pulled him into a brief hug.
"Come on, you know we don't do magic in the common areas, Kai," Elijah said, more patiently. "You got this?"
Elijah's eyes went to the four broken picture frames and a cracked figurine.
"Yes, sir," Kai said respectfully. "I'm sorry."
"Me, too," Elijah said. He should have taken him to a private area, but he didn't want to leave Ric waiting long. "Go on now."
Kai really wanted to try his new spell again, but his magic was low. He'd need to siphon someone else or wait until later. He went to get the dustpan and broom.
"Vacuum after, Kai," Elijah reminded him. "The glass is everywhere."
"Yes, Uncle Elijah," Kai said. Klaus came in holding a flipflop. Kai covered his bottom. "I already got spanked!"
Klaus was confused, "Oh, um, run that to Elijah's study, would ya? I need to head downstairs. That's a good lad."
Kol stomped in a second later as Kai went to deliver Ric's other shoe, mocking, "That's a good lad."
Klaus called out, "I'm going to ignore that. Upstairs, Kol, the linens!"
Kol scowled, but went upstairs to get started.
At least Georgie and the boys hadn't been around to see him get walloped with a flipflop. Twice!
