What ever happened to the Boo Brothers?

Chapter 6: Tension and Traps

Fred and Daphne soon arrived and Velma was already there, with her own materials for the trap.

"What took you both so long?..."The brainy girl asked.

Fred looked embarrassed and Daphne frowned and still seemed irritated by what happened earlier with Sadie Mae and Debra-Sue.

"It's a long story, Velma. So, ready to set the trap?..."She asked.

"Before that, I was checking the plantation again and you gotta see what I found..."She said as she lead them there.

Fred and Daphne followed her, wondering what was up.

A few moments later

Velma led them to where the plot of land for the plantation was. The plantation, like the rest of the estate itself, has seen better days.

The land has long since been withered away and it doesn't seem like anything has grown around here in years. Velma lead them to the tool shack and soon found what she was looking for.

"Look over here..."The brainy girl said as she pointed to the dirt.

"What is it?..."Fred asked, but soon saw what it was.

It was another clue.

"More foot prints from the creature. They start here and soon went in that direction and keep going, before stopping at this tree..."Velma said as she lead them there.

They saw the tree and noticed that one branched seemed to be half broken, but figure this creature was the cause.

"Whatever that thing was must have climbed up here...and then...well, I don't know what else happened, but look at what else I found here..."Velma said as she inspected her find.

It's a piece of grayish fur, clumped together.

"What is it?..."Daphne asked.

"It's some kind of fur, but it doesn't look like from any common farm animal..."Velma said as Fred got closer and inspected it himself.

"I don't recognize it..."He said.

"I'm having a feeling that this didn't come from the Honey Island Swamp. But I still don't have enough information to confirm my speculation..."Velma said, suspicious about the legitimacy of this so-called swam monster.

"Either way, let's set some traps around here before it gets dark. We should hurry too since it's probably not a good idea to stick around here too long..."Fred said.

"Worried about missing a date with Debra-Sue?..."Daphne muttered under her breath.

Fred heard this and frowned.

"Daphne, I already told you that it's not like that! She might have a pretty face but she's too rough for me!..."He said, irritated.

"Hmpt! She's not that pretty..."Daphne said, arms crossed.

Velma saw this and was confused by the sudden tension between the two.

"Am I missing something?..."She asked.

Fred cringed and didn't feel like talking about it.

"It's nothing important. Let's just set the traps up before it gets too dark..."He said, wanting to get things done.

The girls decided not to press further and began following his instructions. As they began to lay out the trap and their missing members came to mind.

"I wonder how Shaggy and Scooby are doing..."Velma said out loud, still feeling strange that they aren't here.

"They're probably racking up the motel bill after eating everything from the mini bar. I just know that he's gonna owe me big time for this.."The de facto leader grumbled.

"I just hope that they don't get in trouble by eating all the inventory like last time...and that they'll get with the program..."Fred said, still not happy that they haven't snapped out of whatever they're under.

"I can't blame them for not wanting to come back, those Scroggins are something else..."Daphne said as they resumed.

"I know that Billy-Bob guy is a jerk and his sister is kind of pushy, but I still feel that he's probably just exaggerating. I honestly expected much worse from them given his reaction, especially regarding the sister. You'd think she was an ACTUAL monsters or something by how he acted..."Fred said, still not getting why Shaggy and Scooby are so terrified of this place, outside of it just looking spooky.

"I suspect that a lot more happened, than what he told us..."Velma said, being patient as she was starting to puzzle things together, but also choosing not to rush.

However, just then the sun set and their trap was just about ready.

"Now... let's hide..." Fred whispered as they hid behind a bush.

As usual the mystery gang hid behind some bushes as they waited for something to set off the trap. However, it was different with the absence of their other members and their usual bait.

In addition, since it was a moon-less night, it got even darker than usual and getting colder.

"Jeepers, this place is even creepier when it's dark..."Daphne commented, shuddering.

"Hold on, I think that I have a match..."Fred said as he pulled one out and lit it.

"Nice going..."Velma said as she saw how brighter it was.

They were about to observe the trap, but then heard a sound behind them. The familiar sounds of footsteps, twigs snapping and something else.

Sounds that were definitely not from any human or farm animal.

"Rrrrgrrgrrr..."Was heard, almost like a rumbling.

"What was that?!..."Fred asked as the three stiffened.

"I'd ask if it was Shaggy or Scooby's stomach...but they aren't here..."Daphne said as she started to worry about what made that sound.

The blonde leader of the gang tried to use the lighter see what it was, however something unexpected happened. A gust of wind from behind hit them and the match went out, rendering the area dark again.

"That's not them..."Fred said, cursing his bad luck.

It got worse as the noises got closer and louder, as well as the feeling of heavy footsteps.

"Jinkies! What was that?!..."Velma exclaimed as it was followed by an inhuman sound.

They then saw a large, shadowy figure stand tall and made its presence known. It was hard to see due to how dark it was, but they saw a large silhouette of a vague humanoid shape.

"GGRRRRAAAAAGGGGHHH!..."Was suddenly heard as the creature charged at them, claws at ready.

The gang panicked as it got closer.

"Oh no, it's the Cajun Sasquatch! Run!..."Fred yelled as he and the girls ran from the bushes and tried to get away.

"Split up!..."Daphne screamed as it gained on them.

They all split up and ran in different directions as the creature chased them in the dark, hoping at least one could get away and get help.

Velma ran North, while Daphne ran towards South and Fred went East...unaware that he was no longer on Beauregard territory and into the Scroggins' land.

With Daphne

The red haired girl kept running until she ended up in the forest and found herself surrounded by trees on all sides.

"Oh my. Where are Fred and Velma?..."She asked in worry as she had no idea where to go.

However, things got worse as she heard a gun fire.

"Jeepers!..."Daphne screamed as ducked.

The pretty redhead quickly jumped and hid into a bush to hide for cover. That's when someone else heard her and got closer.

"Who there?!..." A familiar voice shouted.

"Oh no... not him..." She muttered, wishing it were the monster instead.

Daphne saw that it was Billy-Bob Scroggins with his rifle and he had yet to realize it was her as he aimed.

"I gots you, ya lil varmit and-..."He paused when he saw her and immediately became his poor attempt at being suave again.

"Oh, howdy there, Miss Daphne. Sorry about that, I was busy huntin' a jack-rabbit and the varmit got away. Course, if I'se known it was you... I'd offer you some..."Billy Bob said as he bowed with his hat in his hand.

"Uh...I'm a vegetarian..."Daphne said, not want to be offered any roadkill from a guy who not only is creeping her out a lot, but also probably hasn't even washed his hands either.

"A what?..."Billy Bob asked, looking stupid with confusion but the red haired girl shook her head at his denseness.

She then remembered that there was another more concerning problem at hand.

"Billy Bob, never mind that. We got to get out of here, the Cajun Sasquatch is here!..."Daphne said as she kept darting her eyes to see for sure if the creature is nearby.

To her surprise, Billy Bob started laughing, which was a really annoying sound and made her scowl.

"Hahaha! Oh, that Cajun Sasquatch is just a scary story to make lil' kids behave and not go out at night..."Billy Bob said as used his gun like a walking stick and leaned closer.

"But you and I'se ain't kids. How about I takes ya to my place and we can has some dinner together?..."He asked, thinking that he was being gentlemanly and charming.

He wasn't and Daphne cringed in disgust.

"Uh, no thanks. I really gotta find my friends..."Daphne said as she tried walking away.

"Aw, y'all don't need to play hard to get, Darlin'. Lemme at least get us that jackrabbit, I figures would be tasty..."Billy Bob said as heard a twig snap.

The two saw the jackrabbit, staring back at them. Daphne saw it and despite the tense situation, had to admit that it was adorable.

"Aww... how cute..."She said, while the yokel only saw his soon-to-be dinner.

"I'll show him cute..." Billy Bob said as he aimed.

"Hey, what are you doing?..."Daphne said in protest but the hillbilly wanted to show off to the pretty red-haired girl that he has taken a fancy to.

"Feast yer eyes, Miss Daphne. I'll show ya how a real man hunts for his dinner..."Billy Bob said, thinking he was acting manly to impress her...not realizing that the opposite was happening.

Daphne was going to protest again, but then she noticed what appeared to be a rock inside the rifle as he picked it up, no doubt lodged in when he used it to lean closer to her.

"Uh... Billy Bob?..." She tried but he wouldn't listen to her, as he kept trying to show off.

"Just a minute, purty lady. I gots to focus on my aim just a right..." He said, as he aimed the rifle at the helpless little jack-rabbit.

Thanks to Billy Bob's carelessness, the failed to notice as he pulled the trigger and it exploded in his face, leading him covered in ash and in a daze.

"Wow, I guessin' we could go out and eat instead..."He said in a daze as he coughed and fell face-down.

Seeing as he was still alive, just knocked out, Daphne used this opportunity to start running again and decided any direction was better.

"I think I'd rather take my chances with the monster than go on a date with him!..."She thought as she kept running and hoping to find her friends, and avoid him.

She just hoped that she could find her friends...and get away from both the creepy monster and that creepy Billy-Bob too.

With Fred

The blonde leader of Mystery Inc had kept running until he was far from the plantation, and hopefully the monster too.

Fred kept running until he reached the river. He was sweating and panting heavily, having barely managed to get away. However, he noticed that he was alone and neither of his female friends were here.

"Oh man, Velma and Daphne! I gotta find the girls before anything happens!..."Fred said, worried for their safety at the hands of that thing.

However, before he could leave, someone saw him and his luck got worse as a familiar voice was heard.

"Don't bother, Sugah. I'se all the gal y'all needs..."A southern and flirtatious voice was heard.

Fred soon found himself face to face with Debra-Sue Scroggins, right in front of him with that wide grin on her face.

"Debra-Sue?!..."Fred exclaimed, surprised to see her.

"Hi Freddy. Did y'all come all the way here to see lil' ole me?..."The woman said in a flirtatious way, sending him that same look from earlier.

The blonde guy gulped and soon realized that monster wasn't his ONLY problem here.

Oh boy.

With Velma

The brainy girl ran through the forest and soon reached the cemetery. Not the ideal place to hide but she was desperate.

"Jinkies, I hope that I lost it..."Velma thought as she tripped over a rock and landed on the ground.

Unfortunately, her glasses fell off and see was rendered sightless, an unfortunately common occurrence during these mysteries.

"My glasses! I can't see without my glasses!..."She exclaimed as her eyes began to squint due to poor vision.

She tried to feel the ground to look for her glasses and get them back. However, as she searched for them, something approached her and got closer and closer.

Velma managed to find her glasses and quickly put them on.

"Got'em..."She said in relief as her vision returned to her.

However, bad luck struck her as she heard the animal-like growls and sounds once more.

"ROOOOARRRR!..."Was heard again and Velma panicked and saw the creature charging at her once more.

"Jinkies!..."She yelled as she ran again, trying to escape it.

She began running again as the creature kept roaring and prowling in the dark, looking for it's prey.

"ROAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRR!..."The creature yelled again and stomped around, still searching.

Velma just kept running, trying to get away. She managed to run out of the cemetery and kept running until she managed to find a tree with a large hole in the trunk.

While she wasn't as thin or as "flexible" as Shaggy or Scooby were with their hiding places, she manages to squeeze herself inside out of desperation.

She was now there, hiding but she knew that the creature was still out there, searching for them.

"I hope that the others are okay..."She thought in worry as she continued to hide, as she could sense that the creature was still nearby, searching for it's prey.

REPLIES to my loyal and totally awesome reviewer:

RonaldM40196867:

1) I am tied between Daphne and Shaggy.

2) I just wanted to give Fred his own admirer, and since Sadie Mae likes Shaggy, I created her cousin.

3) I guess it all depends on the guy and whether or not they want the attention they are getting or not. Plus, no one likes it when a stranger acts all forward and pushy with them.

Invader Johnny: You got that right.

Danifan3000: Yeah.

:) I hope you enjoyed this! Remember to read and review :)
