The next morning, the first years began waking up and getting ready for initiation.
"So, you ready, Ruby?" Yang asked.
Ruby smirked. "Sure am. Today, I get to let my skills do the talking." She said. "I just hope that Seer told the Grimm in the forest to see me as the enemy and not their princess."
"Let's hope our teams are good." Yang said.
"Yeah. If I get stuck with someone like Heiress Snob, I'll jump from the of the tower."
The two shared a laugh.
Nearby, Blake and Lapis were getting their weapons ready as well.
"Nervous, little brother?" Blake asked.
"A little. My mother was a team leader when she attended this school. I'm kinda nervous and a little excited about following in her footsteps." Lapis replied as he adjusted his helmet a little before noticing Weiss speaking with a recognizable redhead. He walked over to them and ignored Weiss entirely.
"At least I'm not the only world renowned fighter here." He said and both girls turned to him. "How are you, Pyrrha?"
"I'm wonderful. It's great to see you again, Lapis." The redhead, now known as Pyrrha, said.
Pyrrha Nikos was a girl who was famous for winning the regional tournament in the Kingdom of Mistral for four years and graduating from Sanctum Academy at the top of her class.
"Pyrrha, you know Lapis?" Weiss asked.
Pyrrha nodded. "We met last year at the Regional Tournament. His mother was actually my inspiration to become a Huntress."
Lapis chuckled. "We were pretty evenly matched when we fought each other in the finals, but Pyrrha found the opening that helped her win the Tournament." He said.
Jaune walked up to the three of them.
"Ugh! You again?!" Weiss said.
Lapis looked at Jaune like he was studying him. "Just a sword and shield but no Dust. This guy may not know much about fighting." He thought to himself then looked at Pyrrha. "See you out there." He said.
"Looking forward to it." She said then Lapis walked to Blake and the two headed to Beacon Cliff.
"You have trained for years to become warriors. Your skills will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." Ozpin said.
Lapis smirked and popped the joints in his neck.
"You've all heard the rumors of teams, I'm sure. This will end any confusion you may have. You each will be given teammates today." Glynda said.
"These teammates will be with you throughout your time at Beacon, so pair with someone you can work well with. With that said, the first person you make eye contact with will be your partner for the next four years."
"What?!" Ruby said.
"After partnering up, make for the northern end of the forest, destroying any opposition in your path, to an abandoned temple containing relics. Each pair must take one relic, guard it, then return to the top of the cliff to be graded. Our instructors will monitor but not intervene. Take your positions."
One by one, the student were launched into the Emerald Forest, Blake being first, followed by her brother until Jaune was the last to be launched.
Everyone had their own landing strategy. Ruby used Crescent Rose as a sniper rifle to slow her down then she used the scythe mode to swing through a tree.
Lie Ren used his weapons, Stormflower, to slide down a tree.
Yang used Ember Celica to fly a ways before she landed on the ground, saying "Nailed it" just as she landed then began running.
Lapis used ice Dust to make a slide and made it to the ground.
Pyrrha used her shield, Akoúo, and landed in a tree before finding Jaune then switching her offensive weapon, Miló, from xiphos to javelin and launching it to stop Jaune's fall from being fatal.
Once she landed on the ground, Ruby started running forward, thinking about possible partners. She found herself thinking of Jaune first but decided against it because he didn't seem to know how to fight. Her thoughts drifted to Blake, but she didn't go with that, either because Blake didn't seem like much of a conversationalist. Lapis had seemed more comfortable with conversation, but was seemingly joined at the hip with his sister.
That just left one other person and it was the one person Ruby didn't want as a teammate. She said to a stop in front of mine other than Weiss. The two made eye contact and Ruby narrowed her eyes then scoffed as Weiss walked away. A second later, Weiss came back and dragged Ruby away by her hood. Once out of sight, Ruby yanked Weiss's hand from the hood.
"Rip my hood and you'll face either the blade or barrel of Crescent Rose!" She said.
"You don't scare me." Weiss said.
"Oh, trust me. I can scare you."
Weiss rolled her eyes. "Let's go. I won't let this be delayed because of your slowness."
Ruby used her Semblance to get in front of Weiss with a dark glare. "I'm not slow, Miss Crabby."
"What did you...?!" Weiss started.
"I may not know how to deal with people, but I do know how to deal with monsters. You'll see a different side of me today. Prepare to be impressed." Ruby said then used her Semblance to disappear.
"You're fast but you're also good at wasting time!" Weiss said then the forest around her grew darker as 3rd eyes were seen all around her. The eyes were revealed to be attached to Beowolves, bipedal canine like Grimm.
Ruby smirked nearby as the Seer from yesterday was beside her. "A whole pack of Beowolves against the Schnee heiress...An ending for for her." She said softly.
"Pick your moment, child." Salem said to Ruby.
"Oh, trust me, Mom. I will."
"That's my girl."
