What ever happened to the Boo Brothers?

Chapter 8: From Bad To Worse

It was still very late on both the Beauregard and Scroggins properties, as well as pitched dark.

However, Daphne kept running and didn't look back. She managed to escape Billy Bob and still tried to find a hiding place, miraculously managing to not get tired or dirty from running through the farming fields.

"That gross savage, and I don't mean the Sasquatch!..."Daphne said as she leaned on a tree to take a breath before taking off, wanting to leave this awful place.

She didn't know what was worse, the monster, or Billy Bob's attempt to court her. All she knew is she had to keep running and never look back.

However, Daphne then heard a twig snap near her, causing her to brake hard and stand still, afraid of what's behind her.

"Please be a bunny... please be a bunny... please be a-..." She turned her head slowly as she muttered this to herself repeatedly.

She saw it was a red squirrel, that stared at her for a period of time before running off and chasing a brown and gold colored squirrel up a tree.

"Good enough..."She said with a sigh in relief.

That's when a snarl was heard from afar, making her relaxation fade away quickly.

"That's either the monster or a bobcat... and I don't like either option!..."She thought, worried for her safety again.

The red haired girl ran as fast as she could, desperate to avoid her unwanted admirer and find her friends.

Meanwhile

With Fred

The blonde leader kept running as fast as he could as Debra-Sue kept chasing him, apparently mistaking his terror as him playing hard to get or something.

"Freddy-baby, come back. I'll give you another big kiss if you stop!~..."Debra-Sue called as she kept chasing after him.

"No thanks!..."Fred yelled, quickening his pace.

"Come on, Hon. I promise that I don't bite!..."She said in a teasing way.

"That the least of my worries!..."Fred yelled, as he kept on running for his own sake.

The red haired hillbilly still believed that he was playing with her and giggled, actually enjoying the chase and the prize she'll get.

"You can play hard to get all you want, honey-lamb! It just makes me want you more and I is always game and eager to get what I want. And what I wants is you!~..."Debra-Sue said, still convinced that he was playing around.

That just made Fred run faster.

He wasn't as fast as Shaggy but he was pretty athletic and almost gave him a run for his money. After a while, he managed to lose the love-struck hillbilly by circling and making a sharp left past the trees.

Fred soon spotted a cave and didn't think twice as he ran inside it, not caring what could be inside at the moment. He just wanted to hide out until it was safe for him.

"Freddy-hon. Come out, come out wherever you are. We cans double date with Sadie and yer friend she's intendin' to marry up with..."Debra-Sue called out but didn't see where he ran into.

She kept running and passed the cave, still searching for her "sweetheart" and not seeing him peek out. She looked around and even lifted some rocks to find him and then finally chose to look elsewhere.

Once the love-struck yokel was gone, the blonde guy finally relaxed.

"Finally, she's gone..."Fred thought in relief, sliding down the walls of the cave.

He was now alone and panting heavily, finally getting a moment to catch his breath. He was still unnerved by what he just experienced.

"That was so wrong!..."He said as he wiped his mouth in disgust.

He couldn't believe that some stranger whom he recently met, just jumped him and kissed him out of nowhere.

"Even worse, I don't think she brushes. Man, she needed a mint..."He thought, still unnerved and wishing that he had some mouthwash on him.

It took about a minute, but finally he got back up, just glad that she was gone. Still, he just hoped that Daphne never finds out about what had happened.

He'd NEVER hear the end of it from her.

"As soon as this mystery is solved, we're out of here..."He thought, hoping not to run into Debra-Sue ever again.

He was about ready to get out after he heard no footsteps, but stopped when a sound occurred.

"Fred!..."Was heard and the blonde guy panicked.

"Oh no! Not again!..."Fred screamed as he hid behind a large rock, thinking Debra-Sue tracked him down.

However, it wasn't the boy-crazy hillbilly girl. Far from it, actually.

"Fred?..."The person said again as they got closer.

The blonde guy saw that it was Daphne and he let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh, Daph, it's you. Thank goodness!..."He said, happy to see that she's okay.

"It sure is great to see you too, Fred..."Daphne said, as they both embraced each other.

It took moment for Fred to feel safer with her, but he finally let go as they spoke with each other.

"I'm guessing the monster attacked you again, seeing as you're pulling a Shaggy and Scooby move in a bear cave..."Daphne said, gesturing to the cave itself.

"Bear cave?!..." Fred asked as he heard a low growl.

Turning his head, he saw a bear, still asleep, causing him to walk out as fast possible without making much noise.

"Glad it's a heavy sleeper. So, what happened? The monster?..." Daphne asked.

"No, I-..." He paused, thinking back to what happened.

He realized telling her about Debra-Sue might be a terrible idea right now.

"What?..." Daphne asked.

"I... didn't see, I just kept running..." He lied, hoping that she won't ask for more details.

He at least wasn't lying about running, he just didn't say it wasn't the monster he ran from. Thankfully, his female friend didn't ask for more details, but she still seemed concerned about him.

"Are you okay?..." Daphne asked.

"Peachy..."Fred mumbled sarcastically. "But enough about that. What happened to you?..."He asked, trying to change the subject.

Daphne frowned.

"I ran into that creepy Billy Bob again and long story short, I think I'd rather go on a date with the Sasquatch than with him..."She said in disgust.

"Billy Bob!..."Fred said, groaning and shaking his head.

"I can see why Shaggy doesn't want to come back... and I don't blame him..." Daphne admitted.

"Same..."Fred said, regretting not listening his warnings about those hillbillies.

"Well... at least we're okay..." Daphne said.

"Yeah..."Fred nodded, before he noticed that they were short one member.

"Wait, where's Velma?..."He asked, since she wasn't around.

"Jeepers, we gotta find her. She could be in trouble..."Daphne said, worried for their brainy friend.

Before they could do anything, things got worse as Fred noticed some growling at the end of the cave.

"Uh, Daph. I think that got another, BIGGER and GRIZZLIER problem to deal with!..."Fred said in a panic as he pointed ahead.

They soon saw a large, brown bear had woken up and was at the cave's entrance and looking less than pleased about being woken up.

"BBRRRROOOOOOAAAHHH!..."The bear let out, angry to have people trespassing in it's cave.

"Jeepers!..."Daphne screamed.

"Run!..."Fred yelled, going in the opposite direction as they ran for their lives.

They didn't bother caring if their would-be suitors were around, just avoid the bear. They were soon out of the cave and ran as fast as physically possible.

The bear, still tired, decided chasing them was not worth it and returned to the cave and went back to sleep.

With Fred and Daphne

The two teens narrowly managed to avoid being mauled by the bear and kept running without looking back. However, they ended up running into someone, literally, and hit the ground before they realized who it was.

"Velma!..." They went in unison.

"Guys!..."Velma said as she got up, readjusting her glasses to see better.

"Velma, thank goodness. Are you okay?..."Daphne asked as she and Fred got up and dusted themselves up.

"Other than a bruise on my rear, I'm fine..."Velma said, soothed her bruise by rubbing it gently.

"And yet I think you got it better than us, we almost got mauled by a bear!..."Fred said, gesturing to where they ran.

"Not to mention being hit on by that hillbilly idiot!..." Daphne grumbled.

"And his pretty but crazy cousin who has boundary issues!..."Fred mentally agreed, but didn't saw out-loud.

"That sounds like an awful way to spend the last few minutes. But things are much worse than I thought..."Velma said, as she polisher glasses with her sweater.

"What do you mean?..."Fred asked, looking a bit confused with what Velma just said.

"I think the monster or whoever it is... is after Shaggy..."Velma said, in worry.

"What? Why? What do you mean?..."Daphne asked, worried.

"I don't know how, but someone or something was calling out Shaggy's name and disappeared. The creature then left to go look for the source of the voice...I don't know if it found the source but it's definitely after Shaggy, given how it reacted when it heard his name..."Velma said.

"Jeepers, we gotta warn him. He could be in trouble..."Daphne said in worry.

"On it..."Fred said as he pulled out his phone.

To his shock, he saw that it was missing.

"Oh no, where's my phone?..."Fred asked as he checked his pockets. "I must have dropped when I was running..."He said, surprised that he lost it.

"Let's see if I can help, provided I have any bars of cell service around here..."Daphne said as she pulled out her own phone and tried to call their usually frightened friend.

To her surprise, there was no answer at the motel room or Shaggy's phone and that was a little concerning for the mystery gang. It took 2 more tries before concern grew.

"No answer..."Daphne said in worry.

"What if that creature already found them?..."Velma asked, worried for their friend.

"Knowing those two, they'd have made a break for anywhere but here..."Fred said, also worried about their easily frightened friends.

"We really need to get out of here and find them, and fast..."Velma said, and the others nodded.

However, their own troubles doubled and their plans got interrupted by some unexpected and unwanted company.

"You trespassers aren't going nowhere!..."Was heard.

The trio turned around and soon saw more people, hillbillies with guns pointed right at them and they seemed to be lead by the one in front, who looked like a much older man with dark hair with some gray in it, and a matching beard. Next to him was Billy Bob and some more men.

They all looked pretty mean and not at all happy to see them.

"Who are all you?..." Fred asked.

"This here's my Pa, my uncle and my cousins. And we don't like Beauregards or friends of 'em!..." Billy Bob went before making goo-goo eyes at Daphne. "Certain company excluded..."He said, looking at Daphne.

"I'm so flattered..." Daphne sarcastically grumbled.

Before Billy Bob could try and hit on her again, his father, the apparent leader of the group, spoke up in a really gruff voice and got everyone's attntion.

"You trespassers ain't welcome here. Now git before I lose ma patience!..."Pa Scroggins said, aiming the gun to the road.

Fred and the others didn't listen and tried to reason with them.

"You guys don't understand. We didn't mean to trespass on your land, but the Cajun Sasquatch-..."Fred tried, but was silence when a gun was now pointed him.

"Oh don't start talkin' about that there hogwash and boulder-dash. You think just because we ain't gots yer internet that we's dumb yokels..."The Scroggins clan leader said, as he spat to the ground in irritation before aiming at Fred again.

"Tell 'em, Pa!..."Billy Bob said, hiding behind him.

"I'm telling the truth! Something attacked us and we think it's the-..."Fred was cut off again when the middle-aged hillbilly spoke again.

"City boy, I ain't says that you'se could talk, only leave!..."Pa Scroggins said, aiming again.

"Best do what pa say, unless one of you want to get shot..."Billy Bob said, following his father's example and did what he was told to do.

"Course I'd spare you, Miss Daphne..."He said, still flashing a grin with his crooked teeth.

Daphne cringed and Fred became mad.

"Hey, leave her out of this!..."Fred said but the angry hillbillies took offense.

Billy Bob saw a jealous rival to get rid of, and got nastier.

"I've had enough of you, city boy. Getting in my way of ma family's feud and getting in the way of ma courtin'. So I reckon it high time we settle things once and for all between us men..."Billy Bob said as he aimed his weapon at Fred.

"Uh... by playing sports?..." Fred asked nervously.

"You could say that...course, not the kind of sport yer thinkin'..."Billy Bob said, ready to pull the trigger.

"What?! You can't do that, that's attempt at murder!..."Velma argued but was dismissed.

"It's how we'se deal with problems here. Shoulda get back on the road to the city..."One of Billy Bob's male cousins said, another nodding with him.

"Star runnin', city boy..."Billy Bob said, about to pull.

Out of everything Fred, Daphne, and Velma encountered, they never thought things would turn out like this. Especially being at gun point by a dimwitted redneck and his family.

"No, don't!..." Daphne went, as she got between him and Fred.

"Miss Daphne, kindly step aside and let us men handle this..."Billy Bob ordered.

"There is no way I'm gonna sit by and let you hurt my friend!..."Daphne said in anger.

"Please, there has to be a more peaceful way to resolve this..."Velma tried to be diplomatic here, mostly to buy some time and think of a better plan.

Billy Bob turned to his relatives and then got an idea, he then turned to Daphne and sent her that tooth grin from earlier.

"Well... I may be willin' to spare 'em... if Miss Daphne here agrees to havin' dinner with me?..." Billy Bob offered. "Or if y'all fess up and tells us where that cowardly Beauregard is hiding', so we'se can settle things with him. So which is it?..."He demanded.

Daphne froze, unsure how to answer that. She pondered.

"Daphne!..." Velma and Fred went, upset that she can't answer.

"Hang on... weighing pros and cons here..." She said, while her friends sent her disbelieving looks.

"If you were in my shoes, you'd guy would do the same..."She whispered harshly to then, and the two didn't know how to respond to that.

"So, Miss Daphne. What's yer answer?..."Billy Bob asked, looking impatient.

However, before anything could be said or done, something caught everyone's immediate attention. A large gust of air blew in and the sounds of moan and cackle could be heard.

"What's that?..."Billy Bob asked as he, his father, uncle and male cousins soon heard something coming their way.

"Leave this place!..."A heavy, earie sounding southern accent was heard echoing.

"What?..."Fred said while the yokels suddenly turned pale.

"That voice... that the colonel?..."The Scroggins leader asked out loud, looking spooked.

"Wait...they'se no ways. He's six feet unda! Ain't no such things as Sasquatches or ghosts! It's just another one of that dang ole Beauregard's tricks, but we ain't fallin' for it!..."Billy Bob said, though his wobbling knees made it clear he's faking his bravery.

However, he couldn't fake for long.

"Ooga booga booga!…"Was heard as a skeleton monster and more ghosts appeared, all of them directed at the Scroggins family.

Fred, Velma and Daphne were startled by their sudden appearances, while Billy Bob and his family lowered their weapons in terror.

"G-G-GHOSTS?!..." They went in horror.

"Ooga! Booga! Ooga! Booga!…"The creatures chanted as they shook their overly large heads.

But Billy Bob just aimed his rifle at them.

"You ain't no ghost! Prepare to be another trophy!…"Billy Bob tried to fire when on of the spirits pointed to him.

He fired at the largest spirit first, but to his horror, the bullets when thought it like it was nothing.

"Yoosa loosa noshootsa!…"Was chanted as before anyone knew it, the rifle was pulled out of Billy Bob's hands and aimed at him.

"What in tarnation!?…"The country bumpkin yelled as his weapon was thrown to the ground and damaged.

"You should have left..." The southern voice went.

"Ooga booga booga!…"Was heard once more.

The skeleton monster and the ghost of Colonel Beauregard got closer and they were both looking both furious and spooky, along with a comically large monster and glowing looking ghost that had destroyed the rifle.

The gang watched while Billy Bob seemed horrified and screamed like a scared little girl as the ghost of the civil war general was now before them, glaring down at him.

"T-There's no way! O-Ole man Beauregard!. Yer suppose to be worm chow now!..."Billy Bob shouted as the ghost of the civil war general took large and loud steps forward, looking menacing as he pointed away.

"I SAID LEAVE THIS PLACE!..."The ghost said, in a horrifyingly loud echoe-y voice as the Scroggins's eldest son screamed in terror, and then bolted.

The members of Mystery Inc were stunned as can be as the ghosts then turned to surrounded all of them and faced the frightened yokels, who also bolted for their lives, leaving the "outsiders" behind.

Fred, Daphne and Velma were alone with these ghosts, while the Scroggins ran for their lives.

One thing that is sure, this mystery has just gotten even spookier than before.
