Jessica was still reeling from the revelations Emmett had thrown at her to do anything else but sit in the car simultaneously terrified out of her wits and furious beyond reason. She wanted to punch Emmett Cullen then run away screaming. He had hoodwinked her into this situation. He was certifiable and she was going to have Charlie stake him first before anyone else.

Actually, Edward would be first then Emmett. This whole mess wouldn't be her problem if he had just stayed away from Bella and never spoke to her till graduation. These Cullens were the worst. Jessica was still fuming as they arrived at their destination.

It was practically a glass house, all windows that seemed to invite the sun in. Jessica was baffled. She got out of the car as Emmett did.

"Isn't that dangerous for you?" she questioned. "It's like a magnifying glass. Won't it set you all on fire like ants?"

"Sunlight can't hurt us," Emmett replied. "And I'm not showing you what happens to us under the sun. It's too fucking funny."

Jessica narrowed her eyes, wondering if he was tricking her again. Emmett opened the front door and made a sweeping gesture for her to go first. Gingerly, Jessica stepped into the house expecting to be attacked as soon as they realized a human was in the vicinity but nothing happened. It smelled like Christmas in the house.

There was a sugary, minty smell in the air. The house was tastefully decorated and so clean it reminded her of a spread in those architectural magazines. There was a lack of a clutter and lived in quality that made the place feel less like a home and more of a show home.

Jessica was about to ask if they had just moved in then remembered that they had moved in years ago. Did vampires just like everything to be so neat?

Jessica looked around, trying to find any bloodstains from their past victims. Her heart beat like a drum as she tried to find exits. Maybe she could just throw a chair at the numerous windows and jump out if she had to. With how clumsy Bella was, she'd cut herself on the way out.

"This way," Emmett said, guiding her towards the kitchen. "Everyone's already here."

Jessica walked into the kitchen and found the Cullens surrounding Bella. Were they about to eat her? Jessica made a move towards a chair to use as a weapon but Emmett kept a hand on her arm, his grip like a tourniquet. She glared at him and tried to loosen his hold but he was incredibly strong.

"Hello fam," Emmett called out. "I hope you don't mind. I have my own guest."

The Cullens seemed to all be in varying degrees of shock. Dr. Cullen was the first to snap out of it.

"Jessica." His smile was polite and friendly as always. Jessica was too terrified to misconstrue it as anything else as trying to calm her before he could eat her. "What a surprise."

Jessica let out a whimpering noise.

Edward's glare was murderous. "Emmett, what are you doing?"

Emmett's grin was all mischief. "If you can bring a human over then so can I."

"It is not the same-" Edward stopped. His golden gaze widened. "You told her about us?"

Emmett put a heavy arm around Jessica's shoulder, preventing her from fleeing. "If you can tell a human our secret then so can I."

"Emmett!" The woman who Jessica recognized as Dr. Cullen's wife gasped. "How could you?"

"How could I?" Emmett kept Edward's gaze. "How could you?"

Even without knowing the Cullens were vampires, Jessica realized she was in the middle of a family squabble and was highly uncomfortable. She looked to Bella who had gone white from discomfort. Jessica tried to communicate with her gaze that they needed to get out of there. They weren't safe.

"You're meddling," Edward said through gritted teeth. "This is none of your business."

Emmett's grin was still disturbingly jovial. "Your actions affect this entirely family, Eddie. You started this."

"And I'm ending it."

In a split second, Emmett tossed Jessica to the side and she landed on the soft rug. Edward had tackled Emmett to the wall with a loud BOOM! The two were snarling as they wrestled for control. Jessica quickly got to her feet and ran to Bella.

She grabbed the other girl's hand and dragged her away. As Edward and Emmett fought, Emmett had dropped his car keys. Jessica picked up the keys as she ran. She refused to let Bella go even as the other girl tried to shake her off.

"Jessica!" Bella exclaimed. "Stop!"

"You stop!" Jessica retorted, running on adrenaline as ran to the front door. She opened it and pushed Bella out. "To the car! Now!"

When Bella didn't move, Jessica grabbed her and manhandled her towards the jeep. Bella really did have a death wish. She pushed Bella into the car and started the engine before the brunette could say another word. Jessica stepped on the gas and drove past the trees and back to the main road.

"Jessica!" Bella looked panicked. "You have to go back!"

Jessica stared at her in disbelief. "No!"

"They'll think we're so rude-"

"I don't give a flying fuck what vampires think of us!"

Bella opened and closed her mouth like a fish. "T-They're not like those kind of vampires!"

"Who told you that? Edward?" Jessica snapped. "I told you so many times that he was bad news and you didn't listen!"

"Because he's not a bad person! He's the opposite! He's smart and he plays piano-"

"And he's dreamy! I know!" Jessica glared at her. "Did you think even for a second that he might have just been playing you? I walked into you five seconds from becoming family dinner!"

"That's not it at all!" Bella refuted. "You don't know him like I do. We have a connection."

Jessica scoffed. "You're a fucking idiot."

Bella looked affronted. "I am not a-"

"And I'm telling Charlie," Jessica declared. "He'll ground you for life and then you can think about your life choices."

Jessica was done. She was not going to be Bella Swan's keeper anymore especially when Bella was going to be this ungrateful. Bella would rather be killed by a handsome vampire than to see common sense. This was Charlie's problem now.

"Jessica, watch out!"

Jessica didn't have time to swerve and she hit Jasper Hale full speed with the jeep. He flew over the windshield and over the car. Jessica did not stop the car to check on him. She didn't mean to kill Jasper Hale but at least that was one less vampire to worry about.

There was a thump from the hood of the jeep. Jessica's eyes widened as she looked up at the hood in alarm. There was no way. Even a vampire couldn't have survived being hit by a jeep-

The hood flew off as Jasper ripped it off the car. His pale face was terrifying calm. He smiled at them and it looked more like a grimace. Jessica opened her mouth to scream.

"Calm down," he said in a gentle tone. "There's no need to panic."

A sudden calmness overcame Jessica. She felt the terror and adrenaline melt away from her like it was never there at all.

Jasper continued, "Turn the car around. We should go back to the house and have a nice, friendly chat."

Jessica didn't see the need to argue and turned the car around back to the house. She slowed the car to a halt. Bella jumped out of the jeep as the rest of the Cullens went outside. Bella began apologizing profusely.

Jessica's fingers twitched to reach for the ignition. She knew she had to leave. Why did she want to leave again? She had to leave for some reason. It was important.

Jasper crawled down into the car, taking the seat Bella had vacated. He gently took the car keys from her.

"Let's go join them," he said. "We have a lot to talk about."

Talk? She didn't want to talk to them. She wanted to go home. She wanted-

"Stay calm, Jessica. You're safe."

She blinked. Her thoughts felt fuzzy like her head was filled with cotton. "Am I?"

He nodded. "Why wouldn't you be?"

"Dude." Emmett appeared and opened the car door and looked at Jessica's dazed face. "How did you do that? I didn't know you could Jedi mind control."

"I can't normally. Jessica is amplifying my abilities, somehow."

"Like she did with Edward."

Jessica's fingers twitched. Why was she so calm? She shouldn't be calm. She should be scared but she wasn't.

What was wrong with her?

Something was wrong.

Rosalie appeared by Emmett's side. "She's terrified, you numbskulls."

"She looks calm to me."

"Because Jasper practically drugged her," Rosalie spat. She gently pulled Jessica out of the car. "Let's go inside. I won't hurt you."

"You won't?"

Rosalie's expression was surprisingly placid. "You're safe with me. I promise."

The blonde led her inside and made her sit on the couch. Rosalie took the seat beside her. Esme came over and gave Jessica some warm drink. Jessica sipped on the drink, not paying attention to how it tasted as the Cullens filed back into the house.

Bella was clinging to Edward's hand and Jessica wanted to throw her drink at them.

"Keep calm," Jasper said to her in passing. "And carry on."

Jessica wanted to throw the drink at him. She didn't want to be calm but she was.

"So?" Rosalie turned to her family. "What are we going to do about this mess?"

Dr. Cullen looked worried. "One human knowing about us is worrying enough but two is…" He shook his head. "The Volturi will not be forgiving."

Emmett jumped on the couch, sandwiching Jessica in the middle of him and Rosalie. "Then we should turn one of them. Problem solved."

"We can't just turn someone," Edward retorted. "There's the treaty to think about."

"We'll leave," Emmett said. "Forks is boring, anyway."

"We can't turn them," Rosalie argued. "This is not a life either of them deserve."

"I…I would be okay with it," Bella piped up. "If you had to turn one of us, I wouldn't mind."

Edward stared at her in disbelief. He shook his head vehemently. "Bella, no. You don't know what you're saying."

"That's the thing," Bella replied. "I do know. If I want to be with you forever, then I need to become a vampire. Right?"

"No," Jessica groaned, even with the overwhelming calmness. "Stupid."

Rosalie nodded. "Agreed. We can't turn her. She doesn't know what she's getting into."

"It's what I want!" Bella exclaimed. "I should get to choose and this is what I want."

Edward turned away. "What have I done?"

"What haven't you done?" Emmett remarked. "All you had to do was stay away from one teenager and you couldn't do that."

Edward bared his teeth at his brother. "You made things so much worse bringing her here."

He glared down at Jessica and she wanted to give him the middle finger. Slowly, she did so with shaking hands. She was calm but she was fuming inside.

"It's always one or the other," Alice said. She was sitting on an armchair, her head in her hands. "My head aches from all the possible futures."

"What do you think, Alice?" Dr. Cullen asked. "What should we do?"

"Yes. It's the only way."

"Do we have to turn one of them?"

"We can't leave. The Volturi will hunt us down once they find out."

"This is a big decision," Rosalie disputed. "We should just leave and they'll forget about us."

"Yes. I hate repeating myself."

Edward looked thoughtful and went to Alice. He crouched down to look her in the eye. "Are you answering our questions in advance?"

"Jessica."

Jessica looked at Alice and felt a gnawing sensation in her belly. Something was very, very wrong.

His golden gaze narrowed. "Funny. I was about to ask who we should turn."

Jessica lurched forward and threw up all over the rug.
