11:34 AM

WordGirl dusted her hands off as she dropped off Chuck the Evil Sandwich making guy in front of Fair City prison; having just foiled the sandwich-based villains' plan to steal a prize-winning giant strawberry and turn it into jam.

"I could've had a whole years' worth of strawberry jam if it weren't for you, WordGirl! Do you know how many jam sandwiches that could've made?!" Chuck complained as prison guards came out to bring him in.

WordGirl crossed her arms as she looked down at the sandwich themed villain; raising a brow at his question while Captain Huggyface scratched his head at the thought.

"I don't know, Chuck. How many?" She asked; wondering if he actually had a number in mind.

Chuck was about to answer the question. But he stopped and took a moment to think; coming the realization that he did not actually have a number in mind.

"Uhhhhh. A lot?" The evil sandwich making guy answered with a lot of uncertainty in his voice. "I don't actually know how many, but it would've been a lot."

WordGirl just let out a disappointed sigh as a couple of prison guards came out to take Chuck inside.

"Well, maybe next time, Chuck. Have fun making sandwiches for the other prisoners!" The superhero said goodbye to one of her many adversaries before she flew away with Huggy hanging on tightly.

As she flew high into the air, WordGirl noticed that clouds were starting to form over the city; looking a bit grey in some places. Huggy began to squeak as he pointed to the father clouds.

"You're right, Huggy. It looks like it might rain." WordGirl agreed with her trusty sidekick as she slowed down and looked. "Looks like the weatherman got it wrong about clear skies this weekend-"

Before she could finish her sentence, WordGirl picked something up with her super hearing.

"Hey! Hey, WordGirl! I wanna talk! Where are you?!"

WordGirl immediately recognized the voice calling out to her from across town. She gasped as she remembered her conversation with Two Brains yesterday morning. That meant only one thing.

Dr Two Brains has come to a decision.

"Hang on, Huggy. I think Two Brains is calling out for us." WordGirl told her sidekick to hang on as she prepared to fly off at high speed.

Huggy did so with a nervous grimace and a squeak as WordGirl sped through the air like a bullet; following the sound of Two Brains' voice to his location.

Meanwhile, Charlie and Joey looked up at the cloudy sky; taking note of the grey clouds as they kept an eye out for WordGirl and Captain Huggyface.

"Are you sure she's going to show up, boss? She might be busy and couldn't hear you." Joey asked; thinking the superhero would not have heard the scientist.

Dr Two Brains leaned against the door frame with impatience as he tapped his foot on the floor; more nervous than impatient as he wondered where WordGirl could be.

"She'll be here. Her hearing is so powerful, so could hear someone snap their fingers in space." The mad doctor as he kept his eyes peeled for the superhero.

Charlie raised a brow in confusion before whispering something into Joeys' ear.

"You're right, Charlie. Sound doesn't exist in space." Joey agreed with Charlie before putting his hand to his chin in thought. "Or does it?"

Two Brains almost rolled his eyes in frustration as he looked at his henchmen.

"I know sound can't travel through space; I'm just saying that her hearing is-"

Two Brains was interrupted as he felt a sudden and strong gust of wind; blinding him with his snow-white hair settling over his eyes and making Joey hang on to his beanie. Two Brains fixed up his appearance as he turned around to see WordGirl standing there with Captain Huggyface getting off her back; holding his head while taking a rather dizzy looking step.

"So, I take it you heard me calling out for you?" The mouse brained doctor tried at small talk with a rather nervous smile.

"Yeah; cause ya know; super hearing." WordGirl answered the question as she helped Huggy steady himself.

Two Brains almost laughed in agreement. But his nervousness came up front and centre as the superhero brought her attention back to him.

"So have you decided?" WordGirl asked if Two Brains wanted the surgery or not; internal worried he was going to say no.

Two Brains almost began to sweat nervously as WordGirl looked up at him; waiting for an answer. The mouse brained doctor looked towards his henchmen as they both gave him thumbs up; encouraging their boss to speak.

"Yes... I've, decided what I want." Dr Two Brains began to explain his answer as he turned back to face the super duo. "Now this might shock you to hear..."

WordGirl and Captain Huggyface watched as Dr Two Brains took a rather nervous deep breath before answering with his eyes closed shut.

"But I've decided that... I want the surgery."

Two Brains wanted for WordGirl to react to his answer in anyway or form. After a few seconds, he opened one eye to see the superhero and her primate sidekick giving him a wide-eyed look that could be described as a mixed of shock and dumbfounded.

"What did you say?" WordGirl asked; unsure if she heard him right.

Dr Two Brains opened his other eye as he raised a confused eyebrow at the super powered adolescent.

"You didn't hear me? I said I want the procedure." The mouse brained doctor repeated himself. "Geez; for someone with super hearing you're not a very good listen-"

WordGirl cut Two Brains off as she ran up and hugged him as tightly as she could without hurting him. Two Brains went silent as his human brain had difficulty processing what was happening right. His confusion only increased when his henchmen and the monkey joined in and turned it into a sudden group hug. A rather tight and claustrophobic hug from his prospective.

"I'm so proud of you, doc!" WordGirl said with prideful joy in her voice as she continued to hug the mad scientist.

"So are we, doc!" Joey said as he and Charlie hugged tighter.

Huggy let out a happy squeak as he hugged the doctor as well.

Dr Two Brains felt his face turning into an embarrassing shade of pink as the group lasted longer than he would have liked; only breaking up when he spoke.

"So, what's meant to happen now?" Two Brains asked; making everyone stop hugging him before WordGirl answered his question.

"Well, now Professor Tubing can examine you and figure out how the mouse brain can be removed with surgery." WordGirl explained the next step as she let Two Brains go.

"Experiment?" Joey misheard; thinking the doctor was going to be treated like an actual lab mouse.

"Oh, no not experiment; examine." WordGirl clarified before she began to explain. "Examine means to inspect someone or something thoroughly in order to determine their nature or condition. For example, Professor Tubing wants to examine Dr Two Brains so he can figure what would be the best course of action to removing the mouse brain safely."

Joey quickly realized what WordGirl really said and nodded in understanding while Dr Two Brains just rolled his eyes impatiently.

"Okay, we got the word defining out of the way; are you going to take me and the boys to Professor Tubing or are we just going to stand here all day?" The mouse brained scientist asked; unintentionally speaking in an impatient tone.

WordGirl quickly reminded herself why she was here and refocused on the task at hand.

"Right; of course. I'll take you to the Professor now." The superhero said as she reached for Two Brains' hand.

"Can Charlie and I come too?" Joey quickly chimed in.

Dr Two Brains, WordGirl and Captain Huggyface looked towards the henchmen as they gave the mad scientist and the super duo with nervous smiles on their faces; like children asking for a puppy. Two Brains knew they only wanted to come with him because they wanted to be there for support. WordGirl and Huggy did not know this however.

"You guys want to come? Are you sure?" The superhero asked. "You and Charlie might not be able to do much at Professor Tubings' lab while Two Brains gets examined."

"Um, a word with you, WordGirl?" Dr Two Brains said as he took WordGirl aside to say something to her. "I think they want to come with us because they're just concerned for my wellbeing."

"Yeah, we just want to be there for support." Joey clarified with a reassuring smile; Charlie nodding and smiling in agreement.

WordGirl quickly processed the idea in her head. Two Brains was about to go through a daunting and potentially stressful process. Having his henchmen for support would be a good idea. Huggy nodded in agreement at the idea; making WordGirl turn back to the henchmen.

"Okay; I don't see why not." The superhero said before taking Two Brains' hand. "Do you want to go now?"

Two Brains hesitated for a moment. But he quickly put it aside and nodded. WordGirl gave the man a reassuring smile before she slowly lifted herself a couple of inches off the ground.

"Alright everybody. Hold on tight!"

Two Brains and his henchmen had no time to react as WordGirl went into a flurry of lightspeed; finding themselves at the warehouse one second...

Then in front of Professor Tubings door the second right after.

Charlie and Joey found themselves needing to sit down on the hallway floor; both quite dizzy from the speedy trip. Dr Two Brains was also a bit disoriented, but he quickly recovered.

"I feel my head spinning." Joey quietly whined as he brought his hand to his head.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine." Two Brains reassured; waving his dizziness off as WordGirl and Captain Huggyface knocked on the door.

WordGirl gentle knocked and waited for a response. After a couple of seconds, the group could hear the sound of the unlocking click of a lock before the door opened ajar and Bosco poked her head out the door. The helper monkey immediately noticed the moused Brained doctor and his henchmen standing behind the superhero duo; the three of them waving hello at the science monkey with awkward smiles.

Bosco quickly went back inside for a split second before the door opened fully; revealing Professor Tubing wheeling towards the door to welcome his guests.

"Well, come on in. Don't be shy." The wheelchair bound professor motioned for the group to come in with a warm and welcoming smile.

WordGirl and Huggy eagerly entered; followed by Charlie and Joey. But Dr Two Brains found himself hesitating again. He could not remember exactly how long ago it was when he was last here. But he could remember the accident in all its painful and agonising detail and the mess his lab was when he left it; frozen as he stared at the doorway with a sudden attack of anxiety. WordGirl turned around and quickly noticed him just standing there. He was not showing any visual signs of fear or anxiety, but she had an idea of why he was hesitating to go in. Being as mindful as she could, WordGirl gently went back through the door and extended her hand out to the doctor.

"It'll be okay, Doc. I promise." The superhero reassured the mad scientist.

Two Brains took a moment to snap out of his internal panic attack; taking the reassuring hand being offered to him. WordGirl gave the mouse brained doctor a little smile as she led him into his former laboratory. Dr Two Brains immediately took notice of how different it looked from when he was working in it; letting go of the superheros' hand as he looked around. He remembered it being a bit messier than how Tubing had it; thinking about the mess he left it in after his accident.

"It's good to see you again, Dr Two Brains."

Two Brains quickly turned his head to see Professor Tubing giving him a welcoming smile and holding out his hand to shake. The mouse brained doctor gave the Professor a mildly nervous grin as he shook his hand.

"Been a while; hasn't it, Robert?" Dr Two Brains attempted to make small talk; trying to ease the tension only he was feeling.

"Yes. I believe the last time we interacted was when you threatened to turn everyone's hair products into cream cheese." Professor Tubing recalled that event; having participated in stopping the villains' plan.

Two Brains lightly chuckled as he recalled that scheme. But his chuckle turned nervous when remembered the giant cat cut-out.

"That was a fun day." Two Brains thought as a regretful frown made its way onto his face.

While the doctor and the professor were talking; Charlie and Joey were having a look at the three mice Professor Tubing used to test his device.

"Awww; look at the little big eared one, Charlie. He's adorable." Joey commented as he looked through the glass cage.

"That's a girl mouse to be precise." Professor politely corrected before explaining with a smile. "Her name is Silvi. The other two are Stuart and Bean. Bosco and I used them for testing when we made the MSE device."

Charlie and Joey both made impressed and curious sounds as they continued looking at the mice. Two Brains could see the gears turning in their heads; giving the pair a mildly irradiated look.

"You're not taking them home." Two Brains said out of nowhere as he crossed his arms.

Charlie and Joey gave their boss a shared look of saddened disappointed; like children who were denied a puppy. WordGirl spoke up to the Professor; curious of where everything would go from here.

"So, what happens now, Professor Tubing?" The superhero asked.

Two Brains looked towards the Professor with a curious look as he began to explain.

"Well, now we'll have to run some test to determine how the mouse brain can be safely removed. Some tests will be required like a blood sample and a brain scan." Tubing explained as he showed the group an MRI machine he had in a separate room at the back of the lab.

"Wait; you have an MRI machine?! How do you have one of those?!" Two Brains questioned; trying to keep his mind off the possibility of needles.

"I actually get to look at a lot of different brains in some of my studies. Plus; the hospital accidently ordered one too many. So, I took it off their hands. With permission of course."

WordGirl and Huggy found that explanation believable enough. While Two Brains found it a little weird.

"I never got one of those for my lab." He muttered to himself with a hint of envy.

Before anything could be said, WordGirl heard the sound of a robot rampage coming from across town; her super hearing picking up the sound of Toby's villainous giggling.

"Oh no." She muttered before speaking out loud. "Sorry, guys. I think Toby has sent his giant robots loose again. Huggy and I better go and stop him."

Charlie and Joey turned away from the lab mice and gave WordGirl and Huggy saddened looks.

"Aww, you're leaving? You're gonna come back, right?" Joey asked; not wanting the superhero to leave so soon.

"Sorry, guys; but duty calls." WordGirl said as she and Huggy walked towards the door. "But I'll try to clean up all the crime as best as I can and come right back. Good luck with your tests, Doc."

Two Brains watched as WordGirl and Captain Huggyface waved goodbye and good luck to him before speeding off to fight whatever crime was currently in progress. Charlie and Joey waved goodbye as the superhero duo left. Two Brains just decided not to dwell on it; putting his focus towards whatever Professor Tubing had planned for him as he turned to him.

"So, what're we doing first, Tubing?" The mouse brained doctor asked; watching the wheelchair bound professor putting on a pair of surgical gloves.

"Well, first things first..." The professor started as a robot arm from his wheelchair reached for something across the room and handed it to him. "I'll need to get a blood sample."

Charlie and Joey both gasped and his behind their boss as Professor Tubing held up a butterfly needle and a vial; While Two Brains gave his former colleague a regretful grimace.

The next couple of hours consisted of examining and testing, with a couple of breaks in between. Tubing had a careful look at the protruding brain on the side of the subject's head; seeing how tightly attached it was and wondering how Two Brains has not suffered an infection from what was basically an exposed organ. Meanwhile, Bosco was tasked with looking over the blood sample; looking for any abnormalities caused by the mouse brain and writing them down as the mouse brained doctor had his brain scanned.

Two Brains held his breath still as the machine finished taking images of his brain; exhaling in relief when a computerized voice said "Brain scan completed". The mouse brained doctor got up as soon as Professor Tubing said it was okay to do so; grabbing his goggles, lab coat and gloves from the side to put back on as Tubing looked over the scan on a computer screen with Bosco on his lap with the blood test results.

"I hope you got want you needed, because I'm not going into that dang machine again." Two Brains spoke with a side of mild sass.

"I don't think we'll be needing another scan or blood test." Tubing said as he finished looking and reading both results. "I have to be honest, doctor. The fact that you and Squeaky even survived that accident is nothing short of a miracle."

Two Brains blinked in mild confusion; wondering if Tubing was impressed or concerned.

"So, what's it looking like?" The doctor asked with his hands in his pockets. "Can you get Squeaky off of my head?"

Unintentionally ignoring the question; Tubing looked down at Bosco as they both nodded in agreement. Professor Tubing tapped a box on the screen and pulled out a USB stick with the scans on it before looking up at the mouse brained doctor.

"Come over to the projector and we can discuss it." Professor Tubing requested; wheeling himself and Bosco to a projector back in his office.

Two Brains followed the Professor and his monkey assistant and sat down on a chair placed next to the mentioned projector. Charlie and Joey noticed their boss and sat next to him with the extra chairs next to him.

"How'd your brain scan go, boss?" Joey asked out of curiosity for himself and Charlie.

"We're about to find out." Dr Two Brains said his Professor Tubing and Bosco set up the projector.

Bosco jumped up and pulled down a projection screen just as Tubing finished setting up another computer and connecting it to the projector. The projector came on and showed a still X Ray image of Two Brains and his two brains.

"Now before we talk about the brain scan, I want to talk about your blood test results first." The professor explained; getting everyone's attention before he explained further. "I've read over Bosco's notes. I don't want to alarm you. But the state of your DNA is rather concerning."

"What's wrong, Professor?" Joey asked with a concerned tone to go with Charlie's worried frown.

Professor Tubing adjusted his glasses before he explained Bosco's findings.

"Well despite the fact you eat quite a lot of cheese; your blood work shows that you're in relatively decent shape. You're healthy enough to have this procedure without any massive problems." The wheelchair bound scientist got that out of the way first. "But your DNA is a jumbled mess."

"What do ya mean, Robert?" Two Brains raised an eyebrow at the man.

"Well, the best way I can put it is that at least 75 percent of you is human. But the other 25 percent is bits and pieces of mice DNA; no doubt caused by the accident and the mouse brain."

Charlie and Joey gave each other worried looks while Two Brains just rolled his eyes the other way.

"We kind of already knew that, Robert." Two Brains tried not to sound rude.

Professor Tubing and Bosco gave the doc odd looks when he said he knew he knew about his DNA. Two Brains looked up at his henchmen to see them with the same look.

"Hey come on, you boys knew that too. You've seen me do mouse things like chew through drywall." The doctor told everyone in the room like it was a normal thing.

Charlie and Joey quickly remembered that and nodded in understanding while Professor Tubing looked down with a bewildered stare.

"I'd hate to see what your stomach lining looks like." The professor thought to himself before he spoke out loud again. "Well now that we've got that out of the way, let's move onto to the scan."

Professor Tubing pressed a couple of buttons on the laptop and the image of the brain scan was now enlarged and easier to see. Two Brains could see his own brain along with Squeakys brain; attached to his skull like a parasite. The doctor and his henchmen leaned in a little closer as Professor Tubing took out a laser pointer from his pocket and began to explain his findings.

"Now, on the left side here we have the human brain; the dominant brain that is supposed to be in charge of your body. And on the right, we have the mouse brain; the root of the problem." Tubing explained the image before getting to the finer details. "Now, from going this scan, I think I've figured out how exactly the mouse brain is attached and how it can be removed safely."

"Well don't keep us waiting." Two Brains thought as Tubing began to explain.

"If you look closely at where I have the pointer, there are little nerves stemming from the mouse brain."

Two Brains and his henchmen looked towards the part of the image Tubing was pointing at; seeing the nerves he was referring to before he continued.

"Now, if you don't mind me asking, Doctor. The accident that caused this involved a mind reading device that you had strapped to your head and a smaller device on Squeakys head. Am I correct?" Tubing asked to support his upcoming theory.

Two Brains hesitated to answer as he briefly remembered that painful moment. But he quickly snapped out of it as he remembered some more important details.

"Yeah, I went to go get a snack and when I came back, Squeaky pressed a button he wasn't supposed to and... That's when... it happened." Two Brains explained; having trouble getting the last part out and realizing how stupid it was to just leave Squeaky there in the first place.

Tubing nodded as he took in the information before asking Another question.

"Was Squeaky used for any previous experiments before that?" The wheelchair bound scientist questioned for more details.

Charlie and Joey watched as their boss tried to recall; scratching the side of his head in deep thought.

"I remember buying Squeaky for cheap because he was on sale." Two Brains recalled before he vaguely remembered another crucial detail. "I think the guy I brought him from mentioned something about him being pre-owned."

Charlie and Joey gave each other confused looked while Professor Tubing put a hand to his chin in thought.

"I have a theory." The Professor exclaimed before he asked another question. "Do you know what Physarum polycephalum is, Doctor?"

"Yeah; it's a type of slime mould that moves and grows based on electric pluses to find sources of nutrients." Two Brains answered with the knowledge he already had; wondering where Tubing was going with this.

"If what you said about Squeaky being previously used for other science experiments is true, then it's possible that some of those experiments may have caused a change in his biology that was triggered during the mind reading accident. He may have previously been exposed to various chemicals beforehand and the accident caused a massive mutation that turned his brain into the parasitic organism it is now; feeding off the electrical pulses of your human brain like a slime mould."

"Ohhh! Kind of like that comic book about the guy with the gooey alien in his body!" Joey compared with nerdy enthusiasm; Charlie nodding in agreement.

Two Brains just rolled his eyes in the other direction in mild boredom while Professor Tubing let out a little chuckle at the comparison.

"Close, but not quite." Tubing corrected; making the henchmen frown in mild disappointment before he continued. "But I think with a good team of surgeons and with me at the helm; the mouse brain shouldn't be too difficult to remove."

Two Brains found himself looking towards the Professor with a rather eager smile; more than ready to get this brain taken off.

"Alright; so, how're you gonna do this thing?" The mouse brained doctor asked with great interest.

"Well to get things going, I'm going to get in contact with some associates of mine at Fair city hospital and get a room booked in the private sector. That way; we can perform the surgery without attracting a large amount of attention." Tubing explained as he brought up some helpful imagery on his computer.

Two Brains and his henchmen listened with great interest as Tubing explained the outline of the plan. But none of them took any notice as the blinking light on the MSE began to slowly die down. A few seconds into Tubings explanation; the blinking stopped and the light went dead.

Two Brains had all his attention on the wheelchair bound professor as he began to revise the process on how the mouse brain was going to be removed. But his attention began to dwindle as he noticed a headache coming on. Two Brains stopped smiling and placed his hand to his head as the headache grew stronger by the second; along with an eerie ringing drowning out Tubing and any other noise in the room. Before he could question it; he let out a muffled grunt as he hunched over; hands on his head as his vision quickly blurred and blackened.

Charlie and Joey quickly took noticed of their boss's sudden change in behaviour; putting their full attention and concern on him as he breathed heavily.

"Boss; are you okay?" Joey asked with a worried tone to match his worried stare; not getting the final part of Professor Tubings explanation.

"And after the surgery, we'll keep you in the hospital for a couple of weeks just to be safe and make sure you don't suffer any major side effects" Tubing finished as pulled on the projector screen and sent it back up. "Any questions?"

Tubing turned to looked at his guests; a confused look on his face when he saw Charlie and Joey huddled over a hunched over Two Brains; breathing heavily with both hands holding his head.

"Two Brains? Are you alright?" The professor asked as his monkey climbed onto his shoulder to get a better look at what was happening.

To everyone's worry, the heavy breathing stopped. But it was replaced with an eerie silence as Two Brains took his hands away from his still bent down head. Everyone watched with wide eyes as the mouse brained doctor grabbed the mse with one hand; not looking up as he suddenly grabbed and clenched the mse with that one hand before speaking.

"Human brain doesn't live here anymore..."

Everyone gasped and backed off as Two Brains spoke in a high pitched yet raspy voice; pulling his hand down and snapping the lanyard attached to the mse. Charlie and Joey held each other in fear while Professor Tubing and Bosco watched and stared in growing horror. Two Brains tossed the mse behind him as he slowly stood up; still not lifting his head. But Tubing could see from his angle that his former colleagues' eyes were giving off an eerie red glow along with a growing snarl to go with it.

"Squeaky isn't going anywhere." Two Brains snarled with a voice that did not belong to his human side.

Before Tubing could say or do anything, Two Brains jerked his head up and let out an animalistic growl at him; showing his twisted whiskers and sharp rodent teeth before leaping at him with lethal intentions.
